hi
Hi sorry if this is the wrong place to as this question but kindly advise
im planning to buy anew Android phone preferably a HTC(no offense to other brands its just the feeling that a known devil is better than an unknown angel that's all i have been using HTC for around 2yrs and absolutely no problem till date)
i was looking at the tatoo but it seems to be same as my jade with android but it seems to be the only affordable for me so can any one kindly advise on which one to buy
i would have been really happy if i could get android os for my jade but it seems to be an impossibility as of now and my crazy itch to buy anew phone and a android is kinda taking over(the wife is gona kik my A**)
Well, if I Were to make a speculation without being biased.. I would say Flash 10 is coming soon enough and according to Adobe the only 2 android phones strong enough to run the full package are the Nexus and the Moto Droid. All the other models (HTC etc.) are running flash light which is a half baked memory hog.. 'but it works'.
Also, 99% of the applications/mods I have seen are working on the Droid or compiled specifically for the droid.
In the case of you being a 'I dont want to or need to root' person I would say simply... If your going to build a computer.. would you build a 486 or a pentium 3 OR would you build something that will at the least run the current existing and immediate next gen software?
Hope Ive helped you out.

If the OP wants HTC, why not the Desire? Aiui HTC make both the Nexus for Google & the Desire under their own brand; the two are virtually identical wrt hardware, with the Desire being described by some as the Nexus with HTC's Sense ui added. OTOH the Nexus might get more timely updates than HTC's phones.

thanks for ur kind reply but both the phones u mentioned are also quite costly as they have been recently introduced in my country ie India
so i think i will wait for another 6months usually their is a big drop in price around that time
thank for ur kind advise
a X10i would do the job right
x10 is good now, but will get even better with android 2.1 or 2.2!

Except that 2.1 will be released in september.
I would advise not to get the Nexus One. The Nexus One has broken multi-touch (because of the sensor that it uses), poor build quality (touchscreen messing up, weird tint on the touchscreen, paint chipping off, etc), and is showing its age already in the USA.
The HTC devices may have flash lite now (I'm talking about the ones that have HTC SENSE) but they are upgradeable to the latest full flash 10.1 once it comes out.
I would go with the HTC Desire or HTC Legend for now but in the USA T-Mobile USA will release the MyTouch Slide (made my HTC) and it will have the same specs as the Nexus One except it will have a 600 mhz processor versus a 1 ghz processor but it has an external keyboard. If you want that, then you can buy it unlocked.
thanks to all who replied
hi
thanks to all who have been kind enough to reply
but looks like all the phones u have advised on are currently too costly in my country(India) around 400 -500$ roughly its kinda costly for me so i have no other option to may be wait for some time till they do come down in price and it does happen all new phones come down on price in about 3-6 months of their intro but thanks guys it was very very nice of you to give me ur kind advise but i dont know why but if i buy i think it would mostly be a HTC brand some how im very happy with my experience with this brand
thanks again guys so nice of you to give me such nice advise
Simple choice...
HTC Desire. IMHO.
I ordered a SIM free HTC Tattoo today. I have 8 months left on my current 18 month contract with my SE W995 which does pretty much most of what I need however I wanted a phone I could use Spotify on and maybe a few other apps. I was torn between the iPhone (yes I know...) and the HTC Desire, both of which I would need to buy SIM free for £400-£450 but in the end I opted for the HTC Tattoo which while limited in specs compared to my other options it'll still do every thing I need from at at only £180! I may get a new phone when my contract ends, but for now I wanted something inexpensive.
would it cost too much to invest in the Motorola Milestone?
thats the out-of-the-US counterpart to the Droid. same hardware but running Android 2.0.1
just throwing that out there.
also, I'm sure you could find a MyTouch or another htc smartphone on eBay for quite cheap.

You know... good phones are bound to be expensive ...
I'm in a country with similar situation as yours (billions of people!) and I can fully understand the pain you are suffering: want to buy a fair device with reasonable prices.
HTC phones are not cheap at all. Try find a Italian version Dream in gray market. It it old and not fully-functioned like these mentioned above, but its price is also cheaper:250USD in my country with much of the playable features.
Sorry for my poor English. I'm not a native.

Actually, these days, it seems that everything anyone wants to do or figure out has been done before.
There is always a way around something.
Proxies, budgets, wants/needs. I'm pretty sure you could get an unlocked iPhone 3G and run Android on it (via OpeniBoot) or go with an unlocked T-Mobile G1. I'd definitely give you any spare android-running phone I had if I had an extra..... I'm sticking to the droid for as long as I can.
Also, try googling around or asking in Yahoo Answers- I'm pretty sure there's someone out there who is a non-horder who just happens to have a spare Android phone. Sorry for your luck My problem is that I can't use my awesome Droid outside of the U.S. (hence why I mentioned the Motorola Milestone, as that would really come in handy for me)

Does anybody think that the xoom 2 is worth getting over the first one
(for the record I don't have one)
was planning to get one in January, so if the xoom 2 is released in the USA by then which one should I get?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
The Xoom does everything I want it to do (MZ601/UK/3g).
I'll be looking at a new one when they come out jsut because I can.
Best bet is to see what the second gen units bring to the table and what gains (for you) they offer over the new ones, if you have a friend with a tablet then have a play, doesnt have to be a Xoom anything will do just to see what you make of them in general, best to get one that will do what you want instead of just buying one thats well OTT for YOUR needs..
Chances are there will be loads of people like me that'll be selling there Gen1 tablets when the new ones are out meaning you can pick up a decent second hand bargain, if people are like me you'll get a decent bundle for less than what you would buy a new unit for, for instance I have a car charger, the motorola folio case, the motorola rubber cover an Otterbox and a 16Gb mSD card, that lot will still come in cheaper than a brand new one but it really does depend on what you want/need from it..
I dont think so. The xoom does everything the new one does. From what I've read there's nothing that really stands out that will make me make the jump.
http://androidapproved.com/item/mot...oom-2-media-edition-coming-midnovember-to-uk/
Was hoping for a quad core but this one has the TI-omap. How does that process vs tegra 3?
also only has 16 GB. That's a step down in my book. They also don't mention an sd slot.

The ability to scribe with the forthcoming Moto digital stylus is enough for me since my slate is used in both a boardroom and classroom.
So basically thee devices are just Xoom+'s then as theres not really anything second Gen about then in the slightest...

Pretty much. I've got mine already - it seems better polished than the Xoom, but I can't really tell much in the way of performance - I've only had limited exposure to the original. And as kuroguy mentioned, there's sadly no SD slot (at least in the UK version) - though there *is* what appears to be a useless flap. Wonder if I'll figure that one out any time soon...
Still, it certainly performs well enough for everything I need - note-taking, youtube and the occasional bit of gaming. I just wish I could've found a full spec sheet before I bought it!

I remember reading somewhere it was a defunct SIM card slot. Perhaps the decision to remove this feature was after the cases had been manufacturered.
Off topic, but shouldn't XDA now have a dedicated 'Xoom 2' forum?
I don't think so because it isn't much better *and* this model is so much cheaper now. If the increase in price was proportional to the increase in improvement, that would be more reasonable.

I love my xoom and also own a touchpad running android and the xoom is just a great device. Touchpad already sent in for repair.
Got one
Got a XOOM 2 yesterday and it is sleeker thinner and sexier, but this native 3.2.2 sucks ass. Very laggy at times. Can I run a custom xoom rom on it?.l
No you can't install xoom roms and firmwares and there is no custom roms yet because of the locked bootloader . Yes honeycomb is a bit laggy for my taste too and that's why all of us wants ics as soon as possible. I install adw launcher because of that and i use most of the time firefox 11 beta for internet to have better lag free experience( if you make few customizations in about:config firefox can be very fast) .

Does anyone know what is working and not working apps from gameloft?
If so is there anyway to get it work?
Such as order and chaos. I know its not working.

I played Modern Combat 3 on my Incredible S but it does not work (cannot be downloaded from Google Play) on One s.
No idea how to get it working.
But, if you had rooted your phone, and have Titanium Backup of MC3 from another device, try to restore it from TB to One s and see if it runs.
Other than this, no idea and it's a bit frustrating.
Lol, gameloft is full of crap they set it as incompatible to favour Tegra for some reason, I'm pretty sure they work if you install the apk manually

I find this lack of support from Gameloft amazing.
I recently got a HTC One S expecting to play high quality games, and having tried approx. 6 gameloft games, they all force close after 10-20 seconds of gameplay.
Having looked at the Gameloft website, they don't list the HTC One S as a possible device, only the One X. If you search for One S, they do list a couple of compatible games, such as Nova 2, but then on looking at the page for the game, the One S is not listed as an option.
How is it that only Gameloft games don't work? All other games work fine!!!
>> Does anyone know of any plans Gameloft may have to support the One S in future? Searching their forums doesn't reveal any answers.
I just moved from a Desire Bravo, where I was disappointed to find the multi-touch bug prevented me from playing FPS games. After this fiasco, I may be looking at a Samsung for my next Android device.
I guess we need a compatible build.prop.
Hoping mod comes up with it.

Very frustrating, I got my One S yesterday and it sucks that Gameloft games don't work despite it being the most powerful device I have. They work on my Kindle Fire!
Oh well, good thing I didn't pay full price, thank god for the 10c app sale a while back. I'll say this, as long as Gameloft is this stingy regarding device compatibility there's no way I'm buying any of their games for more than 10c. With most apps I can be assured that if I buy it on one device and then change devices, I can still use it.

Hello guys,
I am just wondering, how do you guys like this device. I am interested in buying the device (at full price as my T-Mobile contract is not ready for renewal) and was wondering if there are any common complaints / issues to look out for. Thanks so much for helping.
PS: If you have time:
1) How is battery life? (IE, can it last one day heavy usage)?
2) Will this work with full HSDPA on T-Mo USA?
3) Is there a way to toggle the torch to use as a flashlight?
4) Where exaclty would be the best place to buy this phone without contract in USA? OR Will this work with a standard T-Mo SIM card?
5) Would anyone recommend me wait for any other device that is soon to come out or is already out instead of this device?
If anyone could answer just one of the above, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

1. No. Most I get out of heavy use is about 6 or 7 hours.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. I would look on craigslist or Amazon.
5. I would HIGHLY recommend this device. Unless you're ok with waiting for the SGiii, this is the best you can get for T-Mobile right now.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
I use this phone all day streaming, email, xda, general surfing, games and still end up with around 30% battery, pretty good in my book. Physical design, sense and the overall experience is excellent. There are some lemons out there but overall quality is high.
The SGiii offers a few more features in the department of removable storage but overall for the US release these phones are almost on par. (Same dual core CPU)
The most impressive feature is the One S camera. There isn't a phone out there in the world that can touch it, say the One X. I travel so a nice camera is a must.
I would have paid full for price for this phone but I had a ToS change to my contract that helped me convince T-Mobile that they owed me, on top of the issues I had with my G2x.
My wife jumped the apple bandwagon to get one of these phones and she loves it.

Thanks so much, guys. The only issue I heard a reviewer say was that the screen can, at times, almost look pixelated or distorted. Anyone even notice this or is this issue just an extreme nit-pick? Also, is there any noticeable lines that run across the screen in low lighting setting like the GSii?
EDIT:
One small thing, if anyone bought their phone from website and would like to share the site, please post a link below or PM me. I want to make sure I get the real model and not a banned or stolen model number. Thanks!
AND:
How does this device work without an SD-Card? Do games that require downloading separate files to run (IE The Sims && Xplane) still work?
i just bought the phone from tmobile customer service and i should get it tomorrow. cant wait to play with it. ive pretty much owned every higher end android phone for tmobile and i just sold my sensation 4g for this phone. i really want to play with the s4 lol.

Pros:
Camera
Excellent battery life
Speed
Design
About negative sides some people mention:
Screen issues - nit-pick
SDCARD - no problems, phone DOES have a card but it is not removable. Admittably, would have been better to have 32gig version, but this one is enough for almost everything except maybe your video collection.
All in all never regretted it, best phone atm.

my screen has never looked distorted--gorgeous-
go to a store and play with it several times--i got mine at a tmo store
it takes a micro sim, regular ones won't work w/o cutting--not up on that. but you are going to get one anyway
My screen is amazing too, i had a gripe with amoled screens, like on my dads galaxy s, that it just looks weird compared to led screens, but the One S screen looks almost undistinguishable to leds, and luckily im not a pentile hater, so I cant really see the pentile pixelation
remember
HTC ONE S:
Very aggressive CPU here- Krait "Cortex A15" (220 linpack) but so ****ed GPU (Adreno 225)
(why ?
Go to youtube desktop and play 1080P HD video.....oh sorry you CAN'T play)
Galaxy Nexus
I don't feel any power., I feel optimization.
(Omap is sucks, GPU is PowerVR SGX540- this is too old crap, even if overclocked.
youtube test with 1080p HD video is FAILED also)
so only one phone is rocking, or Im sorry only one chipset is good-
it is "EXYNOS"
Regards.
I have gotten 12Hr and 30 Mins of usage (Heavy listening to music updating facebook ect. Pics, vids,) With 40% remaining. And yes to everything else you asked.

One s is the way to go on T-Mobile bro. unless you wanna wait for the galaxy s 3.
For me, I will never get a T-Mobile branded galaxy device because it will not be identical to all other galaxy s3.
So what does that mean? it means the T-Mobile s3 development will not be as good. On the other hand, every one s is the same and development will flourish like the sensation.
And to me Samsung is really getting wack, the s3 whole nature idea and Svoice, s this and s that. sound similar to ithis and ithat
And finnaly. you can't compare sense ui to touch wiz. sense is King of android ui overlays.

Remembered you too--
Yes, it is much better and development is growing now with LeeDroid on board. I thought I wanted a larger screen. But, now I know that would have been a mistake for me anyways. The 10gb free memory after OS and apps may be an issue for some. Not me. Otherwise, excellent phone. NO touchscreen issues, and you will know what I mean--
Ken
So there is ONLY 10 GB free (for **** like music/vids/pics) after the OS and cache partitions?!? That is REALLY cutting it for me, I thought there would be 16GB free. Uhh ohh...
And one more thing, my bad:
Will there be a difference of the global version of this device or the T-Mo specific version and what is that difference? Thanks!
Yea, the memory is only negative, but works for most people. I have a 1.3gb video, pics and a nandroid etc with 4gb left
don't know about any global version atm
Never mind, I was just getting confused between T-Mobile branded version and the stock version. They seem to be exactly the same.
This thing flies and I mean FLIES on cm9 alpha 6. Whoooo mate

Hello everyone! I'm just wondering if you guys are still generally happy with the device?
I was thinking about getting this phone because it has a keyboard, and it's relatively cheep from Amazon.co.uk.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Note, which I know to be a beast of a device, it has twice the ram, 3x more power, but really, I'm SO tired of typing on touch screens! it often makes me slower and I can't walk and type at the same time like how I used to when I was a blackberry user.
So my solution was buy a tablet, and then get a keyboarded phone.
Does this phone still work decently well in todays world? I don't do much except text, read forums and maybe browse the web a little (not too frequently). I often listen to music, but even those old 300mhz phones can do that!
So my question is: Are you guys still happy with this device?
Thanks

I'm happy with mine. There are a few quirks, but it's a good device.
But I got it back a year ago, and I wouldn't recommend you to buy it unless you're chasing the low price. The reason being:
Motorola XT896, XT897, XT898 are all rumoured to be released either in summer or autumn. The first two are presumably European and South American versions and the XT898 is the AT&T version (with LTE @ 2100MHz) of the XT894 aka DROID4. The dual core device with 1GB RAM.
Oh, and this summer the DROID4 is getting an update that will give it global GSM capabilities.

Yeah. I couldn't stand my note anymore. Typing on a touch screen is just a nightmare... I ended up purchasing the milestone 2. I hope it is enough. I only want it for a few months until something better comes along. I want to sell my note and buy another device some day. I just really need some kind of solid typing... afterall, I am no longer a heavy user. I mainly use my device as a messaging device and email...

If XT896 actually comes out, do check it out. The 5-row keyboard is awesome.

Thanks

Yeah. I couldn't stand my note anymore. Typing on a touch screen is just a nightmare...

Funny, I almost never use the hardware keyboard on my D2G anymore. Once I got used to Swype, the hardware keyboard seemed awkward and slow by comparison. (And before I started using Swype, I thought the keyboard sucked compared to just about any Blackberry, the Droid Pro I had previously, or even my old Nokia E-71.)
But to answer your original question: I've had this phone since January of last year, and when I'm not pissed off at Motorola's uncooperative attitude toward independent developers, I'm pretty happy with it.
