Thank you . . . .

Thank You for doing this. I've been trying to get around to it for a while and been having issues. Glad others will now be able to enjoy. Good Job!

Can I root with z4root and install cwm on 2.1 update 1 then just nandroid this to update?

Ok, I'm sorry I'm so clueless but I have no idea what to do with this.

I was able to get the update to work and was going to post one up but you beat me to it...
Thanks for this!

Thank you!!!

its not letting me download the file.
Edit: Ok i was able to download, now im getting a md5 mismatch

Is this FroYo, the official build?

Thanks for giving me access to an updated bp_nvm_default.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get to 2.2 from Rooted 2.1?

I installed this yesterday. One thing to remember is after you install this to wipe user data after you install the nandroid. If you dont you wont be able to get past the blur setup. You must have a blur account for this. This nandroid is a stock 2.2.1 froyo us rom with blur. The only thing in this extra is that it is rooted and has recovery installed. If you want to get your DEFY back to a stock rom after installing something else this will do it.

I flashed this but have been stuck at the Moto logo for about 10 minutes, it is just in a boot loop.

How to install this please.

NO one can help?

i hope you all know what nandriod backups are? you must have clockwork recovery on your defy (which means you gotta be rooted) then put this nandroid backup in the backup folder inside the goapkrev(or however its spelled) folder on your sd card, when you boot into clockwork, press restore, and pick this backup you downloaded, after restoring, wipe data and reboot. Cheers! i prefer the leaked froyo, it has jboogie's blurless ginger/froyo rom which is beast.

That is what I did and how I got into this mess.

Resetting my Rogers Magic to stock

Can anybody help me with this? I'm using the Fatality Hero ROM now. I'm no expert (or anywhere close), and I've read through the HW "How do I do techie stuff" thread, which did help me a lot. I'm having a hard time with this though. I've downloaded the Rogers Original Wiped Rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534464, but I tried installing it like I did other ROMs (copy to SD card, recovery mode, install update) & it doesn't do it. I've tried wiping the device, using the RAv1.0H.img recovery too, but still no luck, and I've had to recover my phone with my Nandroid backups plenty of times in all my attempts.
So how do I do it? And keep in mind I don't understand a lot of this, so a step-by-step "For Dummies" version would help a lot.
Thanks.
EDIT: Sorry, I just read your post again. My information was useless...
I haven't tried it myself, but from reading the thread it looks like its a nandroid backup rather then a normal rom you would install. Search the forums on howto use a nandroid backup or check this out http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking_2#sec06
It is Nandroid backup. I made it myself.

[Q] CM7 to Stock 2.3.4

Hey,
I'm new to Android, and still pretty bad with it, so when I set out to flash a custom rom last week, I never bothered to setup a backup. I didn't think it was going to be as complicated to get back to the way it was when I took it out of the box. I guess I'm still use to the iPhone. Now, I'm not completely happy with my phone and am looking to go back to stock.
I've looked in to it, and it seems easy enough, but I just have a couple of questions:
Pre-CM7 I'm pretty sure my phone was GRI54, and i9020, It's now GRI40. Does this make any difference?
And, finally, where can I download an official version of this?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks.

I boot into recovery, factory reset, wipe cache, install zip from sd card, pick the file, agree.

yes, the default for all stock 2.3.4 roms will restore the recover back to stock on each reboots you have to rename/delete the install-recover.sh script to prevent it from happening

Sorry? I have to delete the files to keep clockwork from being removed?
All I did was flash it, restart, and clockwork was still there.
Also, my phone's internet speeds seem really slow now. Could this be from now having a different build? (GRI54 -> GRJ22)
Sorry for my complete lack of knowledge. It's quite obvious I jumped into something that's much over my head.

A stock rom has the script. So flashing it will also restore stock recovery. If the rom you installed does not restore the recovery partition, the the rom was not completely stock.

I've never used it myself.
Looking over the zip file, the script has been renamed, so it's not 100% stock.
Normally you would need to root the phone to change the file name.
Perhaps renaming the file in the zip will correct the issue?
try renaming /etc/install-recovery.sh.bak to /etc/install-recovery.sh and re-apply the zip. ( no need to wipe )
That rom was posted by dsixda, he may be able to confirm what needs to be done.
If you had root, it would be fairly easy to rename it.

This doesn't seem to work. It does gets you back to stock rom but I still have the old modem I flashed, old APN, CWM Recovery and still there and factory reset doesn't works. Just hangs with the little Android guy and an exclamation mark.
Is there something like ODIN for Nexus S to go back to stock?

This should work:
http://android.grdlock.net/index.ph... S&PHPSESSID=9dc0c107b878587d1e0b21ec1e3130ef
This should bring you to stock 2.3.3 for the i9020a
Then apply the official patch:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...5b.signed-sojua-GRJ22-from-GRI54.286d814d.zip
This will then bring everything to stock 2.3.4 with proper baseband and recovery

i bought nexus S yesterday and its showing there is a update for 2.3.3
i just wanted to know how to backup my current version i.e 2.3.2 so if i dont like 2.3.3 i can switch back .. its a new phone not rooted one
If you're rooted, you can do a nandroid backup from recovery. (You will most likely have to re-root after the update.)
nope its not rooted
everything is stock

Wrong. Download a nandroid backup of 2.3.2 (or flash a 2.3.2 FULL ROM from Google itself) and flash that.
Either of those will get you back to 2.3.2.

No, you just flash stock ota updates that directly come from google. Just has to be renamed to update.zip and flashed through stock recover. And if that was a reference from the other thread then, no comment.

How Long Will a Root for ICS OFFICIAL Take

So here's the deal. I'm running CM9Alpha13. And while I love having my phone rooted and playing around with it, I was really only interested in getting ICS for my phone. No I know I'll miss Francisco.Franco's kernels and I'll miss Koush's awesome ROMs but I just really want a stable ICS.
So my question is how long before I can root my ICS if I do the official downgrade to GB and Upgrade to ICS?
Any guestimate would be great!
Thanks in advance.
Jon
I am sure it wont take long...just give the devs a day or so to play with things and get everything worked out.

Confirmed that this worked on Google issued phone (same as T-Mobile version). The following is the order I used to come from CM9 Alpha 11:
1. Backup using Titanium, reboot to recovery.
2. Use CWM to flash stock 2.3.6.
3. Use CWM to flash stock ICS 4.0.3.
4. Wipe all user data.
5. Install the linked superuser through CWM (I had previous tried older and newer versions, which did not work).
6. Reboot phone, go through setup, download Titanium, and restore. Phone is definitely rooted (otherwise Titanium is unusable). I did not try to update the su binaries and will avoid doing so.
any way to root with something like superoneclick?
I'd like to avoid flashing custom stuff on it. just need root.

Then fastboot boot recovery and flash the latest su zip. Even if you flashed the custom recovery it would be overwritten when you boot up the os.

Help!!! Possible Brick m8 VZW

I'm fairly new to the modding area, I'm familiar with the VZW S3 and S4, but upgraded to an M8...I rooted, got S OFF with firewater, and booted into twrp...BUT somehow the main factory image was deleted, and I can only boot into twrp..it stays at the HTC logo if I just let it boot...help!!
Is there something similar to Samsung's ODIN mode that I can just reflash a factory image?

I would say flash the RUU and call it a day, but we don't have one and the one we do have you need S-OFF..
best bet?
get into fastboot/bootloader, and put on a custom recovery.
then, get the TWRP nandroid of the OTA, restore to that.
then, weaksauce/S-OFF
and then you should be back to normal.
If adb/fastboot is not working, I suggest you re-install your drivers, worked for me when I didn't think it would.
opion 2
get TWRP on with fastboot
then
adb sideload any ROM to it and then get back to S-OFF
since you are unlocked you should be ok to do this without being htc dev unlocked.
you could also try htc dev, but i think that is locked.
sorry trying to think of anything else.

because of this, it most likely will not flash the nandroid then as system is a big part of the ROM and needs to be mounted.
you may have to do what was explained earlier and wipe the Internal, and then you may be able to re-do these steps.
so first try it out.
if it doesnt work, I would then wipe the 5 things instead of the 4
1) data
2) cache
3) dalvik cache
4) system
5) Internal storage (this will remove all your internal storage!)
then reboot from recovery into bootloader, then back into recovery and see if system is mounted, if it is, you can go ahead and either do the nandroid backup or an adb sideload. -- your choice
now,
if NONE of that works,
download the "RUU" that was put together and that *should* fix you right up.

yes.. yes it most certainly will work as my ROM is based off that precise nandroid backup...
this is something you should have had backed up..
but, make yourself a dummy nand backup to create the folder..
just don't backup anything except.. data or cache, just pick one thing. and it'll create the folder for you (tip: backup EVERYTHING (Internal., SD-Card, anything important, etc) when playing with beta ROMs. ESP AOSP beta ROMs..
the folder that gets created will be the same throughout your entire stay on the M8 using TWRP, it will never change (well that phone anyway, if you get a refurb or w.e. obv it will be different, but that phones folder markers will never change within TWRP, so it's to your benefit to have this backed up and ready to go...)

Very welcome.
So what was the result fix?
Did you have to wipe Internal from system not mounting?
Or did the adb sideload work?
Also once it flashed it loaded up if you did not have to wipe Internal, was your storage still there?
Glad that your back up and running.

I had to flash the RUU but it finally worked and was applied..I'm honestly thinking of holding off on doing more to it until I learn more!
Had to wipe pretty much all except my sd card, rebooted to bootloader and back to twrp and it allowed me to write to system. BUT I couldnt get any rom to flash (when I did, it hung on the HTC logo as usual, but the aroma installer said that it was successful..so I gave up on that and did the RUU on a different computer and its back to normal.

It's possible after so long you didn't give the ROM long enough to boot up?
Sounds like RUU might be a cause from flashing AOSP, threads like this are good to warn people, and for when it happens to others, they can read this and know what to do. Maybe think of a new title that could help those in a search to find this thread?
