The Captivate had great camera software. anyone know if it is possible to put it on Inspire, and how?
I'd kill for better camera software. Hoping someone can do this if it is better than the stock camera
Try installing the .apk by sideloding it. I would but I like the camera how it is.

I can't imagine how it would work since the camera hardware is different.
The sense camera software seems pretty good to me. I love the filters it offers. It is one of the reasons why I don't go to CM7.
Sense Camera App?
I miss the stock sense camera app...I went to CM7.
Do you know where I can get the captivate OR sense camera apk's?
Dave.

The sense Camera requires Sense Frameworks which aren't present in CM7.
I just downloaded a Captvate ROM and there are two Camera APK's one is the camera app and the other is called camerafirmware.apk. Both are required and there is no way camerafirmware.apk is going to work on an htc camera.
I went to CM7 as well and the camera is not that great compared to the htc sense cam app. But, it's also not horrible.

I posted this in the normal Q & A, didn't get many answers so I wanted to get more specific.
So here's my issue: I have an HTC Sensation 4g (brilliant phone) which is rooted, and custom rom'd with CyanogenMod 9, the Nightly build. I have the latest version installed, and I love everything about it. I have one small issue though. I really miss the old camera from the Sense Rom. Is there any way to get the old camera back? Or is there a camera I can download that will basically replace it?
I loved taking 1080p photos with my phone, but now I feel like the quality and size of the pictures I take have dropped when I switched to ICS CM9. I read up on some mods to get the old camera back but they claim you need Sense installed on your phone. (Which I believe is a memory waster) I got rid of it to move on, but I wish I brought the camera with me.
Any suggestions?
The way sense is built, it's just all put together. You can't take one component and use it alone. You need sense to use the stock camera, no other way. If it was that easy, believe me, you would have heard about it already.
Well I thank you for the input, I've been using Camera360 as a replacement, it works really well. Only problem being it can't record video, so I need to use the stock camera for that.
Would you know of an app that had the "Full screen" style camera that records video + takes pictures? That's all I'm really looking for.

Unfortunately, there aren't any "camcorder" apps in the market. Only camera apps. That takes still pictures with effects and stuff. All you can use is the camcorder that comes with the ROM you're using.

blackwing182 has an aosp based miui rom in the dev section that you may be able to extract a working camera from. I'm not saying it will work, but it may be worth a shot...
uCam is a great camera app and has all the functionality you need. It's free too
Yes! This is what I am looking for! UCam is THE camera app for me! Thanks!
Also give lgcamera a try from the market. Camcorder app is pretty good in it. You can get real aac 128 44khz audio out of it. In my opinion I use that for my camcorder app even on Sense rooms just because the audio doesn't get clipped like the Sense camcorder does.

sadly, no. there is a Camera apk to flash to have the same resolution photos as Sense, but the UI will still be the same. I included it in a different thread if you would like to give it a shot(not my work tho)
or you could try out Virtuous Inquisition. Its basically a Sense rom, de-Sensed, with AOSP added throughout. but it does keep some functions like the camera and others I forgot
I noticed that the stock ROM contains the ability to take HDR images but I haven't found a stock ROM that has that same feature. Does anyone know if such an app exists? Thanks
All of the Sense ROMs have the same function...

So lemme get this clear coz I was wondering about this. If I get a non-sense ROM I can get back the camera nicely installed and potentially any other Sense apps I like?

no
No. Sense ROMs are Sense ROMs. Like the name says. If you get a non-sense ROM, like AOKP or CM, you don't get any Sense apps.

To clarify the above.. The Sense apps don't work without all the behind-the-scenes stuff Sense roms have, including Rosie.
The Sense-based MIUI is a pretty good compromise, in my opinion. Been using it for a bit.. much more stable than the AOSP MIUI

Does it in anyway reduce the quality of the camera to not use a sense-app or will hdr app provide similar quality?

Forgot to mention that the Sense-based MIUI uses the Sense camera with all functions working.
As for other apps.. I've tried four or five different HDR apps and have had the best results with Pro HDR out of the ones I've tried. The Sense app is a close second.. partly because it allows widescreen HDR pics.
And as for quality..I myself haven't noticed much difference in quality with other apps, since it's basically still using the same hardware... I use Camera360 a lot and am not disappointed. I think the advantage of the Sense app is the high burst rate you can get out of it. And the panorama mode is better than almost every other pano app I've tried.. except one (but only because that one app allows 360 degree panoramic)
Hallo guys,
I read on the CM10 dev thread that the camera in that rom isn't as good as the 4.0 Sense stock camera. Can anybody please explain what exactly is the difference between those two camera apps in terms of picture quality, focusing, shutter, velocity and video recording? And why is it not possible to make the camera as good as it is on the stock rom?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,

First of all, im not a developer but ive noticed that the cm10 camera loses all the sense software like continuous shutter and shooting photos while recording. Moreover, colors seem to have better contrast and saturation with sense. Can anyone else confirm this?

I think the sense cam makes really good pictures. I use it for snapshots in holidays aswell. I don't wanna miss the good cam, That's why I hesitate to switch to CM10.

Yeah it's great and if you dont wanna lose the cam it may be best to stay on sense till we get the official jb update

I'm no developer too, so i could be wrong.
But as far as i know, this phone has a dedicated chip called 'ImageSense' powering the camera.
So far only the Sense camera app is able to fully utilize this chip, and thus having many features which are not available on AOSP rom's camera app.
As for the AOSP roms, the devs are able to get the camera working, but not able to fully utilise the ImageSense chip.
As for porting the Sense camera app to AOSP roms, i think it is close to impossible because of some framework issue which means the sense camera app only can run on sense roms.
Please correct me if im wrong.
From what I remember reading, HTC also didn't supply the drivers to the ImageSense chip, so it couldn't be integrated into AOSP ROMs. Hence, only Sense based ROMs which already have the drivers built in can fully utilise the ImageSense chip.
Hey all,
Currently I'm running an HTC Sense device.
I know that the sense camera is awesome to its AOSP counterparts.
Is the GS3 the same way?
I thought Samsung a "more" of a commitment to open source; or is the RLS (type rom) just the best way to go for this device?
Thanks in advance..

I've done a few side-by-sides while flashing back and forth. I can't tell the difference personally. The big difference is the volume in the camcorder app though, it's about 1/2 the volume if recorded using the TW camera.
So you find the camcorder to be lower/quieter via TW than AOSP?
What about phone (ear) and speaker phone volume?
The AOSP camera has a noticeably greater shutter lag and lacks the anti-shake feature which is really helpful.
i have flashed back and forth for a long time and TW camera is just a better camera hands down. Ive tested over and over again and the aosp just doesnt add up. Anyone tried the 4.3 aosp cam yet???

I tried the 4.3 camera and didn't like the lack of settings and photosphere did not work for me on CM10.1.
I personally am not a fan of the touchwiz camera, and have used camera zoom fx for the longest while. I just recently began using the aosp 4.2 camera and have grown to really love it's simplicity and picture quality. Swiping to the right to access the gallery is just awesome. I did test the 4.3 camera and really did not like it. It had a lack of options (though it is a leak) and got fc's when switching from front to back cameras.
With any camera, it's all about knowing is options and layout and making your knowledge of the app work for you. Currently aosp is the clear winner for me.

Not sure on that as I almost never record video, but now I'm curious..
For me at least, the TW camera is why I have not flashed any AOSP based ROM. I just love the TW cam to much. I also use my camera a lot which is why I won't let TW go.
