[Q] Rooted 1.82 ? - G2 and Desire Z Accessories

Hi all, I am new to Android and HTC phones, in advance I know that my question can not have any sense. Today i have rooted my Z 1.82 with method described in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
After it I have rooted 1.34 and i have also two questions:
1) is it possible now to upgrade to 1.82 and keep root,s-off,supercid? Or which Rom you advice and where i could some interesting ones?
2) referring to method i have used to root what method you suggest to undo all? Can i get somwhere a ROM for unbranded 1.82? My CID was HTC_032 if it is useful info for you.
Thanks

Hi,
If you get a custom ROM which uses the 1.82 base you will be able to keep root, SuperCID and S-OFF. The ROM that I am using (link in my sig) is Virtuous ROM which is based off the 1.85 release. Really great if you want the latest build with Sense.
You can use the same method (i believe) to Unroot, SIM-Lock and S-On.
Regards.

Ok ,thanks. Actually now I am using virtuous 1.0.1 as you, but my problem is that I didn't make any backup for my stock one before rooting. Now I would like to now how to back to the status from before rooting. My telcom provider is Era so I need stock Rom branded by Era :/

I think yes I ve used it to downgrade from 1.82 to 1.34 to get permroot. It is pretty well described in one of the sticked guides, and actually in my first post you can find the link.

This is the "Accessories" subforum.
As already mentioned, if you want a more recent Sense build, flash Virtuous. Its based on 1.85, and has some added features, but really not that modified. Much easier than messing with the newer official ROMs (which are not presently rootable).

To root 1.82 you must downgrade.
Safest and best way is the goldcard way
I had 1.82 unrooted desire Z
i used the goldcard way.
this link brings you to the topic.
Once you reach the third part.
you have to do following first
Start command promt.
Browse the command to you ADB folder
enter: ADB Shell Chmod 777 /data
Now you are able to pull the misc file from you phone.
This is normally only available at rooted.
now i run Cyanogenmod v7 =)
Kind regards

Resurrecting a 2-month old thread, posted in the completely wrong subforum, was probably a bit pointless.
Just saying.

Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread

I don't own an MT4G or Panache, but I started this thread for the inevitable arrival of Mobilicity & Videotron customers who would like to mod an HTC Panache. Once the MyTouch 4G Gingerbread update came out, it was found that the Fre3vo root exploit (originally found for the Sensation/Evo 3D) will also temp-root this phone. To get S-OFF you have to roll back to an old Froyo MT4G firmware - from there you can roll back forward to anything you want.
Differences between MT4G Gingerbread and Panache for the purpose of this thread:
- Panache requires a gold card because the ROM you roll back to comes from a different carrier.
- Your preferences in terms of what ROM to put on your phone after S-OFF may be different from T-Mobile customers - ergo, discuss here if this is an issue.
Thanks to jgobeil for posting the guide in post #98:

Hi,
Now that the rooting guide for the Panache is completed and posted, may I suggest that you update the first post of the Panache thread to refer newcomers to this thread to post #98 where the guide is.
This will make it easy for these people and maybe avoid costly mistakes.
Best regards and thanks for your help.

If Gingerbreak will work on it, that would be the only difference, instead rooting with Visionary+, they'll root with Gingerbreak and proceed with the same S-OFF guide, hopefully flashing engineering bootloader.

Since it has launched with Gingerbread, I am guessing the initial root steps will be a little different. If any MT4G devs have any idea what Panache users should try differently, post it here.

There is someone else here on the forum who flashed the entire firmware of the Panache onto his MT4G and was unable to re-root with Gingerbreak even for temp root. Fortunately the user in question had Radio S-OFF so was eventually able to fix it. But this hints that Gingerbreak won't work.

That was me. And yes, none of the rooting methods out there will work on panache (including gingerbreak by SOC) firmware. I had to hboot-flash the stock 2.2.1 firmware and then was able to root.

Thanks for clarifying. Of course you had S-OFF and the Mobi/Vtron Panache comes S-ON. So this leaves an open question of what is the first step to root the Panache.

I just wanted to ask - you said you tried Gingerbreak and it didn't work. My question is, did you check if it at least provided you with temp root? Or it did nothing at all?

Could you explain all the steps you took to achieve this on the Panache?
I just read your thread and it looks like you actually had a MT4G running the Panache ROM. But was your phone already S-OFF? If so, that'd probably explain why Gingerbreak worked. Not sure that'd fly on a factory Installed Panache.

Details on post I started, but its glacier used panache RUU.
Sent from my HTC Panache using XDA App
Yes it was s-off, but another user who did that could'nt root though he also was s-off
Sent from my HTC Panache using XDA App
I see. So it's still not clear what will or won't work with a factory S-ON Panache.
It's reported that Gingerbreak does not work with S-ON Panache, but what's unclear is whether it can still be used to achieve temp root. If it can, this suggests a way to force it to an earlier T-Mo RUU which will permit the use of the S-OFF kernel exploit.
as far i know, both are same hardware and you dont need s-off to use factory RUU. thus if i can use panache RUU regardless of s-off i can flash mytouch 4g RUU on panache.

You need at the very least temproot to edit the "misc" partition before flashing an older version bootloader RUU, otherwise it will reject it. Since it is not yet established that temproot works on factory S-ON Panache, there is no established way to downgrade the RUU. So there is still no clear pathway yet.
If you say so though I still think u dont need any sort of root for official RUU.exe
Sent from my HTC Panache using XDA App
An official RUU will fail, even with a gold card, if it's an older version than the current bootloader. All MT4G official firmwares are older than the Panache's. The only way around this is a root hack.

Okay so I see on the Mobilicity and Videotron Panache that it has peak speeds of 21 Mbps whereas the MT4G is 14.4, did they make a hardware change or is this in the firmware?

No, it didnt even temp root. As i said earlier i did not have a true s-off. I even tried flashing cwm through fastboot but bootloader didnt allow that (it should have if i had a true s-off).

Ok, here is my dilema:
Right now I have software number 1.93 (ICS 4.0.3), but pretty soon the OTA update for ICS 4.0.4 is going to be rolled out. From what I understood because I have an unlocked bootloader + rooted phone, the OTA update will fail unless I revert to "stock" (I am not sure here what this stock is supposed to be exactly).
1. Is it true and if yes what do I need to be able to receive the update ?
2. In case I decide I want to flash a custom rom, what should I do to be 100% sure I can revert to the original rom?
P.S. Some mod please modify the title from Tells RUU to TELUS RUU, it prevents Google from finding any posts regarding the Telus version. Thank you.

Does anybody have AT&T stock 2.20 nandroid backup? I'm trying to make my phone complete stock for a reason. I cannot flash RUU, because previously I flashed Asian 2.42 RUU, and that's why its not letting me to downgrade even with super cid. Backup would be appreciated if anybody can provide it.

Nandroid is not going to return you to stock like an RUU would. You would still be rooted and have custom recovery.
What you are asking for would not really have any different result than flashing a stock rooted ROM, so you can do that, if you just want to get the ROM back to stock.

I'm not noob, and I pretty sure know how to run RUU. I have all the drivers installed. And currently running JB custom ROM on 2.42 ICS firmware with 1.14 bootloader. I can not run AT&T 2.20 RUU, because I will getting bootloader error. You will have same problem if you run different region RUUs with newer firmware. I don't want personal information. Some people may have clean stock nandroid without any personal stuff.

Relax man. He's asking for the easy stuff first, since the best solution is very often the easiest one. Better to ask the seemingly 'obvious' question right off the bat, rather than go down some complicated road needlessly.
Re-installing HTC Sync fixes up the issue for the huge majority of people with RUU errors. Not in your case, as you are correct that trying to run the RUU with a lower hboot version number that what is already installed, will cause it to fail. But he is just trying to be helpful.

I'm relaxed, thank you for understanding me. The reason for this request is that there might be, and its might be an update from At&t in a future eventually. I'm just trying to be prepared for this, because I can not run 2.20 RUU and the only way to get this future update would be from a system setting. I like clean stock, rooted Rom with all the unneeded apps uninstalled. Once I got the update I can just unlock the bootloader and root it and install insecure kernel along.

Then you are in the wrong place. This is a developers site, you are suppossed to do your homework and read and do some research. A tutorial will probably lead you to a messed bootloader and belive me, that is really painful to deal with.
That thread has all you need to know. Even has a noob guide (the same that in my signature) that will help you out. Try that out and once you know what rooting and downgrading involves, you are ready to go.

As long as you follow instructions in the Hack Kit site and in the effen manual, chances are almost inexistent, thou modifying software always involves risks.
You have you be aware of that. Several thousands of dhd and inspire users have used the kit successfully, so that is your proof that it works flawlessly as long as directions are followed.

Same answer. If you follow instructions you shouldn't have problems. The risk is always latent, you are modifying software, but there are lots of success cases that backup the process.
Its very simple. I did this 4 days ago. Currently on 4.2 AOKP. All you need to do. Unlock your bootloader. Thats easy. Htcdev.com. create an account and follow the directions. This'll unlock bootloader. Then Download that boot.zip. extract the boot.IMG and put it in the fastboot folder. On computer, cd to fast boot folder and type fastboot flash boot boot.img. relock the boot loader. Then run the hack kit. Questions?

S-Off with AAHK is a much better option than S-On boot loader unlock with HTCDEV. With S-On you can only flash ROMs meant for the DHD, meaning no ported ROMs. Also, you need to fast boot flash a boot.IMG separately each time you flash a ROM. Also, you let HTC know and so you lose any warranty you may have. And radios can't be flashed. Look in the Ace Think Tank guide for more information.
You just answered all my questions man, I appreciate it...ill stick to what I know...its a different experience coming from a LG optimus one....

As you're with Telstra you will be able to unlock the bootloader on your device through htcdev then install the custom recovery then flash a rom with root as there is currently no root exploit for Jellybean.
As suggested above though do your homework first.
