I was hoping I could get some help as I'm new to this device. The Xoom is a brand new black Friday purchase. I have installed on my PC all SDK's, Java SE 64 and Android_3.2.2_Stock_Rooted zip. After unlocking it this morning I realized the OS was updated last night to 3.2.4. I'm uncertain how to proceed. I want to install Ubuntu on it so it runs both Android and Ubuntu. The Xoom is a 4G LTE build HLK75F. Though I find lots of info describing this type config I was unsure if I can go backwards in OS versions and was looking for a straight forward procedure to install. Can anyone help please?
Hmmm... Can you tell me more?, because I didn't get it.
two days ago. you mean the update? right

More details, make model of the wifi device. Plus.... doesn't the xoom already have wifi?
I updated my thread with more information. Keep an eye on that thread as i will be frequently updating it.
yes, my xoom has wifi/3g/4g...and no. . it should be the
same method to install any driver for a dongle. not doing anything but trying my RTL8187 out on my tablet.
I just purchased an Asus Transformer and I have been trying to root the tablet in order to be able to use my android phone for internet acces. I have tried numerous methods but can't seem to find the right one. My build is 9.2.1.17 - 20120312 with Android operating system 4.03.
Anyone have any ideas where I might find the right root software and instructions?
Thanks

You don't need to root the tablet to tether to a phone, you need to root the phone to run wireless tether.
I recently (within the last month or so) rooted my android device for the first time. I'm still kind of getting used to the new fun things I can do with it now. I'm now getting a consistent pop-up though asking me to upgrade to Android version 4.1.2, I'm currently on Android version 4.0.4. Before I do this I have a couple of questions for those of you out there with more experience and knowledge on this than me.
1) It is my understanding from reading some other posts that if I run the update through them it will overwrite my rooting, and I'll have to re-root the tablet. Is this correct?
2) Assuming that (#1) is correct, can anyone point me to a good, safe, place to download the update version 4.1.2, with steps for the proper way to run it without loosing your root access and all the data on your tablet?
Thank you in advance for any help. As I said I'm still learning a lot of this process at this point.
assuming you have a wifi only you can use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1936534
as long as you still have or can reflash a custom recovery.
if you need one, TWRP link in my sig
I have a Version 4G XOOM, but I don't have a dataplan for it currently, so I am only using it in the WiFi version.
So the message is, don't use the standard upgrade; use an upgrade that you flash with similar steps to the rooting process (if I am reading that all correct). Thanks for the link and the information.

Well you can just take the update normally if it flashes (assuming you haven't edited anything in the system) then just re root.
You don't want to flash wingray on stingray (wingray is us wifi only stingray is the lte model)

Hey guys - I just went to best buy and ended up buying 3 of the Digiland 10.1 Tablets they had on sale for $70. Going to give them to my nieces for X-Mas (ages 11, 13,14). Dose anyone know how to root this device and install Android 5.0 Lollipop ?
I'd like to update these 3 before i give it to them. Thanks!
Bump, I am also using the digiland 10.1 from best buy... Successfully rooted, but looking for the best way to install custom rom without bricking? Thanks in advance.

I used root genius on Windows and it worked very easily... Hoping for custom recovery but I'm only intermediate with these things so I'm not sure where to go from here.
I bought one of these from best buy and would be very interested in all info available on rooting, custom recovery, and compatible roms for this device. I registered just for this thread. lol.

I rooted with the root genius for windows. Super easy took about 20 mins. Make sure you use the download from shuame.com though. Follow the directions
review?
Since you guys are using tablet.. What's your thoughts of it so far?
I'm sure someone on her knows of a rom to use.
That site is in what appears to be chinese, even translated its...hard to tell what is going on. No worries the thing doesnt even get here till the 11th of Dec.
Ummm what?
the site he listed, its in chinese

Sorry try this instead
shuame.com/en/root/
So did anyone get a custom rom working yet?
So far I like the quality of the tablet. I also brought three tablets one being the Digiland for myself and it is a very nice tablet. I just rooted mines as well through Root Genius. It's already on 4.4 so going from kitkat to lollipop isn't a huge deal to me. I'm using Buzz Menu as my home launcher and I Really like it! One of the biggest things I look to find in a rom for this device is multi-window.
Windows XP drivers help
I'm really liking this tablet as well.
I've been trying to root it with Root Genius as well, but unfortunately I've come across a road block.
I'm using a windows xp computer and I can't seem to find any driver for the tablet when you insert it in dev mode into the PC.
It asks for "MT65xx android" drivers and despite hours of searching on the net yesterday, all the drivers I have found online get rejected during the install driver process. I point the driver install to the right folder with the unzipped XP drivers, then it just fails and states it hasn't found matching drivers in there... I tried and found like 10+ websites with no luck.
Has anyone rooted it through a Windows XP computer? If someone could help me find the right matching drivers, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, I'm happy to hear people like this tablet, since I'm giving them as gifts.
"MT65xx Android Phone" driver
It turns out that most of the drivers I was trying must have been "MT65xx Preloader" drivers (the driver that is required when connecting the tablet when it is turned off).
Could anyone who has successfully rooted theirs point me towards a valid "MT65xx Android Phone" driver for Windows XP? That seems to be the name of the driver required when the device is turned on and with usb debugging turned on (the state required for Root Genius to work). Google hasn't returned a valid one for me yet since most sites tend to get the "preloader" and "android phone" drivers mixed up or poorly labeled, it seems that all the ones I found fall in the earlier category.
Rooted
ok so I have the thing rooted with root genius. Still looking for a rom, I have also noticed that this device seems to have a 2Gb partition and then the rest of the 16Gb in another partition. Is there a way to repartition this? Im a PC tech but very new to android. This site has been very informative so far.
I have rooted and downloaded the Original ROM for the DigiLand 10.1 running 4.4.2. I am currently attempting to load Lollipop on the system.
Can you please post the link to the original ROM, I have thus far been unable to find it.
Thanks
My first one did the wireless update after Rooting with root genius and bricked. Probably just bad download. Got replacement and updated and rooted, but having to use kinguser because of the issues supersu has with access to root from SD. Flawed for some mtk devices I have found. Lucky patcher and titanium backup won't work properly with supersu. Does anyone know if superuser has the same problem?
