More details, make model of the wifi device. Plus.... doesn't the xoom already have wifi?

I updated my thread with more information. Keep an eye on that thread as i will be frequently updating it.

yes, my xoom has wifi/3g/4g...and no. . it should be the
same method to install any driver for a dongle. not doing anything but trying my RTL8187 out on my tablet.

Also, if you plan to use either the TnT Lite or VegaN custom rom, both already have ad-hoc WIFI support included in the build.
Will you be able to use this with a iPhone 4?

wifi theter possible?

Hi, i just rooted my friend's droid 2 global.
downloaded wifi tether but when i connect to the laptop i get a verizon page.
is it possible or a way around this?
thank you
It requires an NV radio hack, as far as I recall.
If I'm not mistaken, RootzWiki has a thread on it.
could u post a link please?
thank u

I think I saw an easier way that implied patching by simply installing a .zip with Clockworkmod, but I can't find it for now.

[Q] Nook Tablet Flash Question?

Sorry for posting in this section about the nook tablet, but i cant post in that section until i have 10 posts and im a complete noob and dont want to randomly reply to posts trying to sound like i know what im talking about. Anyways, quick question: am i going to lose my flash support on my nook if i root it?
No, flash still works. Rooting will just let you install a new launcher, android market, amazon market, and lots of other things that B&N wont allow you to. You will still have access to the B&N store and apps as well.
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487 . It worked great on mine. Only had a minor issue getting Windows to not auto install drivers so I could use the USB Drivers for root. Also dont be a noob like me, turn off your wireless after your initial registering of the device. My Nook updated to 1.4.1 which broke my root while I was screwing with the USB drivers and before I finished Indirects script and had OTAs blocked. So I had to do it twice
EDIT: Im also working towards 10 posts so I can think Indirect in his thread ;P
thanks man! my root went well. i had the same problem with the drivers but i just decided to use another laptop. thanks for the help

[Q] Rooting a chinese android phone

My wife bought an unbranded unlocked android 2.2 phone from China on Ebay. Are these phones rootable? I have a few tech specs if needed.
Thanks in advance
One word:
SuperOneclick 2.3.3
shortfuse.org
If that doesn't work, try searching for an old exploit called ginger break, that may do it too

If you don't have the drivers, try using linux for such purposes. You don't need specific drivers for linux, you just need to tell the system about your phone (google lsusb, udev and android and you should come up with the relevant information). If you don't have linux, try installing it in a virtual machine (virtualbox works well, others probably do too) - I'd use the ubuntu distro if you aren't familiar with linux, probably the simplest learning curve. It might sound like a lot to learn, but most of it is stuff you need to properly understand android anyway.

Digiland 10.1 (DL101Q) Root, install Lollipop ?

Hey guys - I just went to best buy and ended up buying 3 of the Digiland 10.1 Tablets they had on sale for $70. Going to give them to my nieces for X-Mas (ages 11, 13,14). Dose anyone know how to root this device and install Android 5.0 Lollipop ?
I'd like to update these 3 before i give it to them. Thanks!
Bump, I am also using the digiland 10.1 from best buy... Successfully rooted, but looking for the best way to install custom rom without bricking? Thanks in advance.

I used root genius on Windows and it worked very easily... Hoping for custom recovery but I'm only intermediate with these things so I'm not sure where to go from here.
I bought one of these from best buy and would be very interested in all info available on rooting, custom recovery, and compatible roms for this device. I registered just for this thread. lol.

I rooted with the root genius for windows. Super easy took about 20 mins. Make sure you use the download from shuame.com though. Follow the directions
review?
Since you guys are using tablet.. What's your thoughts of it so far?
I'm sure someone on her knows of a rom to use.
That site is in what appears to be chinese, even translated its...hard to tell what is going on. No worries the thing doesnt even get here till the 11th of Dec.
Ummm what?
the site he listed, its in chinese
but regardless many reviews on bestbuy are saying it comes rooted anyway.

Sorry try this instead

So did anyone get a custom rom working yet?
So far I like the quality of the tablet. I also brought three tablets one being the Digiland for myself and it is a very nice tablet. I just rooted mines as well through Root Genius. It's already on 4.4 so going from kitkat to lollipop isn't a huge deal to me. I'm using Buzz Menu as my home launcher and I Really like it! One of the biggest things I look to find in a rom for this device is multi-window.
Windows XP drivers help
I'm really liking this tablet as well.
I've been trying to root it with Root Genius as well, but unfortunately I've come across a road block.
I'm using a windows xp computer and I can't seem to find any driver for the tablet when you insert it in dev mode into the PC.
It asks for "MT65xx android" drivers and despite hours of searching on the net yesterday, all the drivers I have found online get rejected during the install driver process. I point the driver install to the right folder with the unzipped XP drivers, then it just fails and states it hasn't found matching drivers in there... I tried and found like 10+ websites with no luck.
Has anyone rooted it through a Windows XP computer? If someone could help me find the right matching drivers, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, I'm happy to hear people like this tablet, since I'm giving them as gifts.
"MT65xx Android Phone" driver
It turns out that most of the drivers I was trying must have been "MT65xx Preloader" drivers (the driver that is required when connecting the tablet when it is turned off).
Could anyone who has successfully rooted theirs point me towards a valid "MT65xx Android Phone" driver for Windows XP? That seems to be the name of the driver required when the device is turned on and with usb debugging turned on (the state required for Root Genius to work). Google hasn't returned a valid one for me yet since most sites tend to get the "preloader" and "android phone" drivers mixed up or poorly labeled, it seems that all the ones I found fall in the earlier category.
Rooted
ok so I have the thing rooted with root genius. Still looking for a rom, I have also noticed that this device seems to have a 2Gb partition and then the rest of the 16Gb in another partition. Is there a way to repartition this? Im a PC tech but very new to android. This site has been very informative so far.
I have rooted and downloaded the Original ROM for the DigiLand 10.1 running 4.4.2. I am currently attempting to load Lollipop on the system.
Can you please post the link to the original ROM, I have thus far been unable to find it.
Thanks
My first one did the wireless update after Rooting with root genius and bricked. Probably just bad download. Got replacement and updated and rooted, but having to use kinguser because of the issues supersu has with access to root from SD. Flawed for some mtk devices I have found. Lucky patcher and titanium backup won't work properly with supersu. Does anyone know if superuser has the same problem?
