Hi everyone, I recently got a Desire HD Canadian version such is closer to the inspire than the European version, I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of lens and sensor is this device is using.. I have read that there is 2 kinds of sensors one a Samsung one and another type such I don't remember the name of. Also I heard the lens is plastic? Can anyone confirm this? I have read the guide for the camera on the dhd forum but I won't to find out more detail about the hardware in the American version since it seems different. looking forward to any information. Thank you

If you want a camera , a nikon d40 is cheap these days . It takes a great picture.and you can change lenses on it , even add a bigger flash
dont consider the camera on Inspire 4G gives u the good quality on photos
I am not complaining on the camera I just want to know the hardware..

Would there be any possible way of taking a G2-Desire Z, tearing it apart and fitting its "guts" inside a nexus one housing (without the keyboard of coarse) and/or add a front facing camera to it?
PS: im not crazy =] just think my g2 is kinda big and love the nexus one overall design...

come on xD the size isnt too different, both have a 3.7" screen... it cant be possible that no one else has tried (or wanted to try) to insert preferred hardware into a better looking similar device.
One thing i just need to put out there because it's frustrating me how people have this confused the htc has a 1.3mp camera NOT and 0.3mp.

Proof if you need it.
Edit: Sorry people I posted this before the Sensation was actually released. Turns out i, as well as the person in the video, was mistaken. It is, as you no doubt know, a standard 0.3mp VGA camera. Sadtimes for all... ):

Indeed!
But if you know how to use proxy server/IP address you can view it.
Ontopic:
Nice to see it's 1.3 Mp!
can't see ......
Huh?....
I can't view your video but I don't really care what some tech blog site says. The FFC is VGA. This is according to every major electronics site, including htc themselves. Not to mention the quality on our ffc's just looks god awful like a VGA.

There is no way this ffc is 1.3; at the very least on the T-Mobile USA version. Sorry to break it to you but it is just as crappy as ANY other VGA camera.

What's so hard in taking a pic and seeing the resolution of it?
It's a 640 x 480, which equals 0.3MP.
Deal with it. That is all.

My girlfriend who's not tech savvy in the least bit loves to point out the flaws in my Sensation ie: crappy ffc as opposed to not as crappy on my G2x, the phone heating up during normal use, the loose power button (on my last Sensation) and my current crooked volume rocker, creaky right side, erratic battery life, texts that may or may not come through. The list goes on but I still enjoy the phone. End rant.

Iphone 4s camera is better then the htc you could check the mod made by nodo in the developement section...

There isn't much you can do except run your photos through filters and stuff to make them look old fashioned. Bottom line is that the sensor on the iPhone 4s is much better than the Sensation's.
Outdoor photos usually come out pretty good when there is lots of light. But once inside you will get grain in your photos do due to the small sensor on the Sensation.

I've been wondering about the camera quality of different HTC phones. I've used a desire HD, Sensation 4G and a HTC Vivid and all those had 8mpxl snappers , I've ordered a one x off ebay and it too has a 8mp camera, (camera in One x is loaded with features though) Are there any real difference in quality?
I've been using xda for over a year and today I thought why not be part of the community. So here I am,
Don't you remember what HTC kept yelling a few months back?
Pixels don't matter!!
But seriously, you should notice a huge uptick in photo quality in comparison to those devices listed. I believe an HTC device that comes close, but not to par, with our camera is the HTC Amaze 4G, a little while ahead of the devices you mentioned.
Here's the HOXL thread for community contributions of their photos, you'll find these all over XDA likely in their specific device forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639324
I'm guessing with the more popular international HOX, there's a way more active thread that you can use to aid your comparison.
Also, here's a comparison thread between the Sense camera and AOSP camera I started a while back, in case you're interested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943160
As I have stated in various threads the HOXL has one of the worst cameras I have ever used. The color balance of the stock photo app is terrible regardless of how you set it - the skin tones are either too red at the default saturation or too gray one ticket down. There is NO happy medium, with the exception of blazing sunshine outdoors. You can make passable images if you either tweak the colors after the fact, eg with the mobile version of PS or with a photo app that gives editing options immediately after taking a shot. And the front camera is worse than useless unless you clean the lens at least once a week. I seem to be in the minority here, yet most people I would send pics to would tend to make similar comments.

Your opinion is definitely in the minority.
@OP
I've owned 2 of the phones you mentioned and the One XL camera is definitely an improvement. It does have some minor issues with low light and some indoor lights but it's still easily the best phone camera I've ever used.
The camera is good no doubt. But I miss using the image sense chip. Until there is a 4.2.2 version sense, I will not cone back. The updated stock camera app and frame work is awesome. However the generic android camera app is good too. In my opinion I think sense has the edge sense the software is built around the hardware obviously. That's just me though. But to non-photographers like me, the camera will suit you just fine and your draw will drop.

They say so comparing it to the M8 and it's exceptional low light performance. Obviously, E8 won't be as good as that, but I read in some Chinese review that it is a very capable 13mp unit, comparable to the S4 camera, which was considered really well back then. For a phone camera, I think that is sufficient.
Also, I'm linking another hands on, from Techradar this time!

The shots are ok but....that yellow tinge to every single photo really makes the photos seem dull and lifeless. Don't know if that can be fixed with adjusting the manual settings like white balance or not. Users of the phone know anything about that?

For an average user, I'm sure the camera will be sufficient. Easily. But if you're looking for an out-of-the-world performance, this phone it's for you. It's camera is not one of the best 13mp shooter out there.
I currently use a One S, which had a pretty decent camera itself, served me really well till now, I've clicked some amazing shots with it, and I'm sure this One E8 is better than One S.

I guess tinkering with the manual setting will improve the results a bit, but I have read at many places that it tends to click pics a bit darker. The photos don't look dull in particular, just a bit less light in them!
