[Q] G2 mod - General Questions and Answers

Would there be any possible way of taking a G2-Desire Z, tearing it apart and fitting its "guts" inside a nexus one housing (without the keyboard of coarse) and/or add a front facing camera to it?
PS: im not crazy =] just think my g2 is kinda big and love the nexus one overall design...

come on xD the size isnt too different, both have a 3.7" screen... it cant be possible that no one else has tried (or wanted to try) to insert preferred hardware into a better looking similar device.

G2 to MT4G?

Has anyone made this switch? I love the G2, but I'm just not feeling the hardware keyboard. :/
I figure I can get a MT4G for the same price I can sell my G2 for, so it's a quick swap. What are the pros of the MT4G? Biggest drawbacks? I just really, really prefer the solid bar shape to the hinged G2.

Just make sure you get the good screen other than that this phone is a beast.

I have both the g2 and the mytouch 4g I wasn't to hot for the keyboard myself it sits here collecting dust. I use it for games easier to play with hardware buttons. I don't regret my choice of getting the mytouch either.

I swapped and am loving the MT4G, but when I pick up the wife's G2, it still just feels like a better phone. All smartphones free this weekend from T-Mobile if you're serious.
I did the jump. Mt4g works better for me. Form factor and everything is better

You don't...there's no way to know the screen type without seeing it. Read the thread about good and bad displays, all you need is there.

If the seller via Craigslist or EBay is that serious about selling the phone they can check for you w/o root the phone. It's super simple to do.
Personally i have "bad screen" and it's not that different from a "good screen". My kid sister has a "good screen phone" and it's brighter, and the whites are whiter. thats about it.
Well,i haven't made a switch, but I did check them both out at the store, and I went with the glacier just cause I like how it looks. And I don't use qwerty, nor do I like touch sensitive buttons.

Faster processor, MUCH more RAM, larger screen, better feel to the device (IMHO), and FFC.
I've been toying with the idea of obtaining a MT4G instead, since I very, very rarely use the hardware keyboard anymore. Less than I thought I was going to.
Is T-Mo STILL having bad-screen units coming off their shelves to this day? You'd think that would not be an issue by now. What am I saying, of course it is, most people probably have no idea it's even a problem..

[Q] ***Day Dreaming*** What If HTC Made The G2X?????

If HTC was the manufacturer instead of LG, what changes to the device do you think they would make? Do you think it would make a huge difference?
Doubt it would be stock android and would prolly have a locked bootloader.
Honestly it wouldnt exist because of the Sensation.

Think its ugly and too skinny
Should be a little wider and not the huge black bar on bottom
And personally I liked my mt4g hard buttons

when i had the nexus s and went to the mytouch 4g it felt weird having to press physical buttons. i like the capacitive buttons better. no wear ands tear
It would look exactly like every other HTC phone, would be made with metal (I actually like high quality plastic better as it can absorb shock better), and would be running sense. Probably would have a locked bootloader also.
(I have nothing against htc phones, I have one myself, just stating my honest observations)
HTC already manufactured G2 (with keyboard).

First, I'm guessing that LG was looking for a U.S. carrier to sell the O2X and couldn't find one. With the Sensation, SGS2, Bionic and all of their variants coming, the U.S. carriers probably didn't need another high-end dual core phone. Especially from a company new to high-end phones. T-Mobile probably said if you strip out the UI we'd be able to find a place for it in our G-line. I'm sure part of the deal revolved around T-Mobile carrying the G-Slate. I'm also sure that LG would have rather sold the O2X as is rather than having to develop and support another version of s/w.
Carriers don't just randomly pick phones one-by-one across vendors. They sign multi-year commitments worth hundreds of millions of dollars. That's why LG and Motorola find it so difficult to place their phones. LG was vanquished to the low-end and Motorola sold its soul to VZW. Trust me, there's little passion and emotion at the HQ of any carrier when it comes to an individual phone unless said phone can make them lots and lots of money (EG: iPhone). It's all about the Benjamin's.
So if HTC made a dual core successor to the G2 I'm guessing it would be Sensation-like spec wise without Sense. I for one would camp outside a T-Mobile store to get one.

If HTC made the G2X, they would use:
1) ****ty Speakers like all their phones
2) Bad molding process, creaking here and there
3) Dust under the screen
4) Somewhat not centered Front face camera.
5) Tape, glue, double sided tape here and there to put the phone together.
Sorry i'm done with HTC phones.

Exactly... Other than the hd2s build quality. I hated my htcs.. Hardware issues left and right with them.. Even the n1 used a cheap screen and had mad dust..
I don't know why people complain so much... Build quality is amazing on the g2x, I've had no reboots like others and the bleed issue isn't a issue for me.
Trust me people, there are good ones and I got one... Actually 2 with no issues..
If HTC made the G2x it would have...
A. only came with a 1250 mAh battery (they skimp on battery size BAD).
B. it would have sucked any extended battery you bought for it dry in mere hours.
C. it wouldn't have had a Gorilla Glass screen (HTC uses a glass that they make which is supposed to be as good as GG, but fails miserably).
D. it would have had that same earpiece speaker that every single other HTC device has (don't get me wrong I've always liked HTC designs, and I know they're attempting to BRAND their phones... but it's getting old IMO).
and
E. We wouldn't have vanilla Android (or Google Dark Ale as they like to call it) on our G2x, we'd have Sense UI. And while Sense may well be the best OEM launcher going, I still prefer not to skin Android and just let us choose our own launcher instead. Every skin creates some lag IMO. With my vanilla Android G2x, I've experienced zero lag to date.
And loving it!

Thx someone who knows about phones, I just hope people understand what quality means in a phone and take HTC down the.pedestal.
HTC fanboys seems to worship HTC crap like apple fanboys do.
Please understand a cheap die cast piece of metal along some bad plastic is not quality and certainly WEIGHT /= QUALITY

[Q] Which 1 to buy ? SGS2 or Sensation

Hey guy im confused between two phones Sgs2 n Sensation
Sgs has some problems like Yellow tint , pink spot and some other issues plz can u guys help me in selecting the phone ? does sensation also have these kind of problems ??
Ummm ur asking in the sensation forum..... so opinions will be heavily biased . Optimus 2x user here. But I think galaxy s 2 is a better option. Sure the build quality isn't amazing, but the hardware will blow ur mind. Also, dev support is much better than what the first galaxy had, as cyanogenmod and aosp is making its way to it really fast whilst sensation is still bootloader locked. But I really like the build quality of HTC. I wish Samsung improved the shell of the galaxy series

SGSII hands down.
As for the built quality, I think a lot of people forget that there is a reason behind why a phone is built with light materials....to keep the phone light as possible. The rear cover on the SGSII may look thin and cheap, but you know that it can flex from end-to-end without breaking right? There is a reason...
I've dropped my SGS4G so many times and it endured...it's far from cheap.
The bigger and heavier it is the harder it'll fall...

After receiving my third Sensation yesterday and it having major issues, I would definitely say that for now the SGSII would be my choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Sensation has the potential to be the best phone out there but at the moment the one's I have received have numerous issues.

I have em both, and must say.... The battery life is much better on sgsII. The camera(with or without high quality fix) is way better, no lag (except wake up 1sec) on sgsII, easy root sgsII. Build quality is almost same, if you think about the weight. And most of all screen on the sgsII is way better in all aspects. And in direct sunlight it rocks in comperment to sensation, witch is almost impossible to see.
For the sensation, the sense 3.0 is GREEEEEAAAAT... Lockscreen sweet, dlna is better. Its better in hand. Software is better overall.

Same thing I was wondering. The SGS II comes out in Canada next Thursday and I'm still going to be within my 14 Day return period. Its been like 3 days and I already got that annoying "dust under the screen" issue. The phone is great, camera takes crisp pics and all and Sense 3.0 is beautiful no doubt, but there are things that I'm starting to question.

Just to defend the other guy, umm no, cuz unless you drop from really high places which is not likely with a smartphone, the acceleration to max velocity will be faster with a heavier object thus you are wrong.

Ya. Something like that. I am asking this because I want to be able to tell if the displays on mobile phones or tablets are good or bad just by looking at the product itself. Thanks Dave.

I'm not an expert so I can only tell you what you probably already know. But here goes
The higher the screens ppi (also sometimes referred to as dpi) number the more pixels it can put on screen, anything over 200 is very good. For example my optimus 3D is 217 ppi and looks very nice.
Resolution is very important. Bigger is better.
As for screen types the page at http://m.techradar.com/news/phone-a...st-phone-screen-display-tech-explained-951855 explains all you could want to know.

Honestly, looking at it is the only way that you can determine what you think of the screen. You cannot go off specs alone as hardware quality is more important than specs (except in extreme cases). You also cannot judge by anyone else's opinion. It's not yours.
If you think the display looks nice then thats what you like. I use to be a fanboy for the superamoled screens. Got a sensation & much happier with its qHD screen. Is all personal pref my friend.

If you have access to the phone/tablet and it is connected to the internet, you might consider finding a high quality picture on the internet, and looking at the same picture on all the devices, to do an equal comparison.
Thats a good point.

I'm suggesting that you look at it to determine whether you like it or not. That's a subjective thing and it has nothing to do with specs or other people's opinons. Look at several devices and you will probably prefer the screen on one of them.

Camera swap

Hey all,
I've seen a lot of threads about changing the battery, but not about changing the camera. Would this even be possible? The G2 camera connector seems to be the same and in the same side, so, if we could fit it in the nexus 5, the only trouble would be the drivers right?
I guess people who want to swap ol dis better go n buy the G2 and flash pure android into it...N5 is in itself is a very nice phone!!
