Dear Apollo's,
Excited to get first ext4 ROM? Here you go. I have compiled kernel with ext4 and some most awaited features . I am currently tuneing the kernel to get most power out of our phones and will release over next few weeks. This is first build from sources and you have to live with issues for some time. data2sd is enabled in kernel. You have to partition sdcard and format as ext4 using minitool partition manager to use data2sd. You are most welcome to post your feature requests. I will add them as and when i can.
Theme is from Kyrillos13 ROM. Theme Credit goes to Kyrillos13.
Features:
FULL EXT4
DATA2SD
TUN for VPN
CIFS
Pre ROOTED
DEODEXED
How to Install:
Flash JPF to have clean phone (You can test it without flashing jpf)
If you applied lagfix before make sure to reformat sdcard as ext4 before flashing
Unzip and flash Apollo.tar selecting PDA file in odin
After flashing DO NOT wipe data/cache. Just reboot system

Nice ) You have converted all partitions (/system, /data & /cache) to ext4?
Yes. All partitions are ext4. If you have ext4 on sdcard it will be mounted for /data. You can install as many apps as you want.
i can use it without a ext4 partition in my sdcard?
Can you post the instructions on how to install/flash this rom in detail? I'm a noob at this :/
The JIt is présent ?
Great rom, i test quickly ^^
No JIT. Framework source is not yet released. I think it will be released on March 11th. I will compile after that.

No. It will be in next release.
Mini partition wizard doesn't have an option for ext4, what should I use?
Maybe try GParted?
If you are using Windows you can try http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php or any linux distribution using VirtualBox or VMWare
i cannot download things from market, anyone have this issue?

As you can see from the pictures, I loaded Drizzy's optimized apps and framework because I had never seen the Ophone graphics and wanted to see what they are all about. If drizzy doesn't mind I'll drop the graphics but keep the optimized apps

--------------------------------- THE OLD ROM DOWNLOAD LINK AND INFO BELOW ------------------------------
ALL OF THE THANKS GO to JAC, Denkai, coolbho3000 and everyone else who makes this possible.
This is a slightly modified JACHero2.3.3 release.
This ROM is for those who prefer a 3rd linux-swap partition. The modified a2sd.sh will start swap on every boot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531988).
THREE PARTITIONS
FAT32
EXT2 OR EXT3
linux-swap
Included in this ROM is the Super Optimized Rosie from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532822
Next up, 4 Home screens on Rosie for the win! <---- probably should have been more specific, I'm working on this (it's more difficult than I anticipated)
Enjoy your ROMen noodles!
http://demarcatedmedia.com/rom/jacHEROski2.zip <----- slightly smaller Rosie, still working on fewer Home Screens
The file should be roughly 79.43MB - I used MEGAUPLOAD so who knows.
Please Note: This is my FIRST ROM, so use at your own risk. It does, however, work flawlessly on mine.
As always, I would recommend freshly formatting you sd card (at least the ext3 and linux-swap partitions) and wiping data before applying.
Awesome! Been looking for something like this. Gratz on your first ROM and props to everyone who made this possible. Downloading right now
could you plzzz upload to other site coz megaupload is not available in my area...
Question. If I am using a ext2, do I still need to do the 3rd? If so, how do I do that? Can I use partition manager?
would be cool if we could choose how many home screens it had.

Yea, I don't know I haven't tested it on two partitions. This ROM is mainly for those who have three partitions set up on their SD card.
FAT32
EXT3 or EXT2
linux-swap
The best part is you don't have to worry about your SD card getting corrupted when you mount.
You can use whatever to partition your SD card so long as it partitions it!

OK, here's my first real contribution to the Android community... and I owe all credit to the amazing cooks out here...
I take no credit for anything, other than the fact that I kanged Paul's, Pershoot's, Cyangen's, intersectRaven's, Ivan Dimkovic's and Termana's work...
PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE POST BEFORE DOWNLOADING AND FLASHING. I SUGGEST U READ THE POSTS OF THE ORIGINAL KERNEL AUTHORS AS WELL.
This is a mod of the Desire Camera R2 port by Paul.
I just pushed the changes to various kernel mods including the stock CM506 kernel.
This should work on any stock version of CyanogenMod... tested on CM 5.0.5.x & CM 5.0.6... These mods should work with other ROMs as well, but I have not tested any. Try at your own risk.
Instructions:
1. Pop the zip file onto your SD card.
2. Reboot into Amon RAs recovery.
3. Do a nandroid backup [VERY IMPORTANT IN CASE YOU FACE SOME PROBLEMS!].
4. Select "Flash zip from SD" and select this zip.
5. Reboot.
Note:
This will flash a modified Pershoot's OC/UV kernel boot.img and replace the camera app. Flashing the boot.img is necessary since this mod requires a change in init.rc. Flashing another boot.img will cause the Desire camera to FC. If you want to flash another kernel, flash the zImage and push the wlan ko. Please use at your own risk (but, no this will not brick your phone).
Known Issues:
You might encounter FCs if you use NexTheme Goodies add-on.

Reflashed the Kernal update and it works now...I had been using CameraZoom, but think I'm going to uninstall it now as I never really used the plugins.
Thanks!
It works Thank You
Um nevermind... I take back what I said about the fact that it's working properly... it actually isn't.
The camera occasionally closes on me. Sometimes it also restarted my phone when I try to open it too.
Why there is a need to install it together with boot image ? Isn't it just a regular system application with additional libraries ?
If this is a case, is it possible to remove the boot image from the package - this way it can be used by anyone who want to run a different kernel and it won't be any need to reflash the kernel after installing this?

You should probably mention that by using this, one also overwrites the current kernel.. No good if you use another kernel that the one supplied with this .zip.

Actually, this has changes in init.rc (to initialise the htc framework) which can only be changed by flashing the boot image. So no, there's no way to get it working without flashing the boot

the difference is that for this rom you dont need to edit your partitions, just flash it as any other standard rom. All fits to nand. For the other one u need to be s-offed and brave enough to edit your partitions.
SO I just copy it to my SD card, and run it thorugh Clockwork Recovery? Any other step I need to make?

yap that is just be sure to wipe davlik cache and user data before flashing. youll still need an ext2/3/4 partition for a2sd
Great, good job

Thanks and I assume, the ext2/3/4 are done through Colock work? I have never done this before .
why do i need to mod my nand to install original RemixHD? all you need is a a ext partition.
so is this for people who do not have ext partition on SD card?

half of remixhd runs from sdcard, this one runs all from phone memory (nand)
i tried to add a script for ext2sd but no space left in init_d directory??
Very nice work!
The ROM is running very smooth, not even need another kernel.
All Languages are Included, all garbage removed = Love it!
Maybe you can implement the Data2SD thing instead A2SD for improved I/O and nicer Benches scores ?
I tried to do it by myself following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9561327&postcount=601
but at thea Step: tar -cvzf /mnt/sdcard/backup.tar.gz . i got the Message "tar: not found"
Would be nice havin it "Out of the box".
Thank you for your amazing work.

all those commands must be run from linux thats why you dont have tar.
TBH the data2sd is only good in benchmarks and adds more inutile stress to sd card just so you can have higher score in quadrant. In real world you wont observe any smoother rom than w.out data2sd

Steps to flash the rom is straight forward
Load appropriate apollo_0531.ops file in odin and flash the .tar as "one package"
This will get the rom working
There are 2 things that fugumod does
1 /etc/init.d scripts start
2 Filesystems are recognized
Best way to I do is
When i am on Stock kernel I delete all files from /sdcard/Android/data/fugumod/
and keep fs.convert with lines
---------------------
mmcblk0p2 ext4
stl6 ext2
stl7 ext4
stl8 ext2
---------------------
boot in recovery and do factory reset and delete cache
Flash fugumod
and wait for ages so the fs gets converted
If you dont want to wait..
dont keep any files in fugumod directory when on stock kernel and rest remains same
i.e factory reset and flash fugumod
for a quick workaround if you get stuck after fugumod flash
remove sdcard
Do data/cache wipe and factory reset from recovery
and boot.. you'll get in os faster..
once the phone is on insert sdcard and wait for it to get mounted
delete all files from fugumod directory and reboot
Initially fugumod is super slow because it has to convert fs load scripts and cpu is not scaled properly.
once the fs is fine, converted and recorded in fs.current the init scripts (apps2sd) are also cool with everything
then when you see the interface its very slow because of inappropriate cpu speeds (use set cpu to set settings of your choice)
There is a also a zipalign script which will run for first time and take time to make itself comfortable
Nice...
Good work! Nice to see new Devs popping up!

Yes i did that...copied the global apn.conf file >> then restarted >> then set the default APN settings..but got no results !!
I guess it's because of my service provider..

Go to /system/etc and copy apns-conf.xml
and use this file on all Roms
or use an app called apns backup restore

nooooooooo
your rom is fast and the theme is AWESOME ! :O
EDIT: no CWM recovery
Here is the next version of my HTC Evo Shift Sense kernel. It was built from the 2.3 gingerbread source. It should be stable and smooth as that was my main goal with this. I usually dont come here to XDA as often, so you may receive better support for questions/concerns here at SDX
Kernel Features:
Undervolted
Overclocked to 1.92Ghz
Interactive governor added
Smartass governor added
Enabled powersave governor
Faster charging over USB (Still slower than AC Wall charger)
BFQ (Budget Fair Queuing) i/o scheduler
Full bash mod (Gives you working directory, command history, tab completion and a shameless plug of my kernel in the shell )
Enabled ext4 filesystem support
Included HAVS/SVS support for Vipermod or incredicontrol (thanks to cayniarb and his tiamat kernel for guidance)
Init.d scripts supported (needs testing)
Default Settings:
Max Frequency = 1.209GHz
Min Frequency = 245MHz
Governor = Interactive
I/O Scheduler = BFQ
Download a cpu control application like No-Frills/SetCPU from the market for editing these settings.
Information:
The bash mod is something that cloverdale proved was what people liked so I went ahead and edited the ramdisk and zip to set that up so thanks to him for that.
After playing with the frequency table a bit, I changed methods this time and used the CM method for overclock on this phone. Its a method I saw several developers use while on 2.2 and seemed a bit cleaner than the method that I had originally set up. Thanks to toast, for the implementation of that.
This is still something I want to improve so I really need some feedback as to what you guys want to see. I will try my best to fulfill all logical suggestions.
With the bash mod, if you flash a kernel over this, it may (depending on the script method) remove the nice pretty text for the shell. It will still be functional as that part is installed to the phone itself. I will post up a 'bash removal' zip to restore back to default eventually
Ext4 FS has been added. It requires you to convert your filesystem from ext3 to ext4. Ive made it pretty simple for you to do with a script inside of a flashable zip. If something goes wrong, please let me know.
HAVS/SVS passes the VDD (Voltage draw for each frequency) values to userspace, meaning that they can be set by the user. While nothing NEEDS to be done for it to work, users now of the option of tweaking the voltages just a bit in order to increase their battery life. This was tested with the free application 'incredicontrol' from the market. ANY and ALL bug reported due to the fact that you dropped the voltages a bit to much will be ignored. This is DUE AT OWN RISK. I can tell you that from my experience, dropping down 50mv is about as far as you can go on my kernel. Good luck.
To anyone wanting to learn how to start getting into development, Please email, PM, or find me on irc #gen-dev, #sdx-developers, #htc-evo-3d on irc.freenode.net. I will teach you whatever I can as best I can. It is the only way to progress the development community. Ive spent hours teaching several over the past week and countless hours in the past. Please do not hesitate to ask.
Kingdom ROM Users:
Thanks to nfinitefx45 for letting me know what had to be changed in the ramdisk, I now have a new zip for this ROM that includes the full bash mod.
Downloads:
all downloads can be found here
Installation:
EXT3:
1. Download and place on SD card
2. Boot into recovery and make a back up if required
3. Flash zip
4. Reboot
EXT4:
1. Download both the ext4 kernel and ext4 conversion zip and place both on SD card
2. Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup (very important)
3. Flash EXT4_fs_conversion.zip (do not reboot)
4. Restore the nandroid you just made (do not reboot)
5. Flash ext4 kernel.
6. Reboot
Returning to EXT3:
1. Download ext3 conversion zip and have an ext3 kernel. Ensure both are on the SD card
2. Reboot into recovery and make a nandroid backup (very important)
3. Flash EXT3_fs_conversion.zip (do not reboot)
4. Restore the nandroid you just made (do not reboot)
5. Flash ext3 kernel
6. Reboot
FAQ:
Q: What is EXT4?
A: Ext 4 is the newest version of the extended filesystem. It is mainly used as the default linux filesystem in most distros. It has improved read and write speeds over the previous versions (ext3 and ext2) It should provide slight speed improvements over the default filesystem on the shift, ext3.
Q: Why do I have to 'convert' my filesystem and is it necessary?
A: My ext4 kernel will only mount system, data, cache, and devlog partitions as ext4. It is not 100% necessary to convert the existing filesystem to ext4 as ext4 is backwards compatible, meaning it can mount ext3 partitions as ext4. By converting it to true ext4, you will be able to take full advantage of ext4 speed.
Q: Will this affect the way I flash ROMs and modifications?
A: In theory, no. The ROM should flash like normal but if they do have a custom kernel included, it will be necessary to flash an ext4 kernel after the ROM.
Q: Is this safe?
A: While working with partitions and their filesystem is considered risky on any account, I have made the conversion zips as simple and as safe as I possibly can. If any corruption does occur, it is usually fixable but should not happen in the short life of these devices.
Q: Does this change the way the backup and restore functions work in CWM or TWRP?
A: No, it should not effect the way the recoveries backup and restore data. There have been some notification of the 'wipe' functions in 'mounts and storage' reformatting back to ext3 but, you should be able to just flash the conversion zip again to return to ext4.
Q: I want to use a different kernel that is not ext4.
A: You will need to flash the EXT3 conversion zip to return your partitions to ext3. Then flash like normal.
Q: AOSP ROMs are on ext4, why do they not require the conversion?
A: While this was an option, I felt it best to do ext4 100%. An ext3 partition can be mounted as ext4 and it will provide some speed enhancements but, it is not full ext4. AOSP roms are simply mounting the ext3 partitions as ext4 which is fine, just not my preferred method.
Q: Will this effect my sdcard in anyway
A: No it will not.
Q: What do I do if something goes horribly wrong and my phone is stuck in a bootloop and I cant pull it out?
A: This is a help forum, post your issues and I or another helpful person will help you. If you are not receiving help, PM me or email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you.

Thanks to all the people in the huddle that tested this before release to ensure it was up to standards (especially strapped and crump). Big thanks to joeykrim for his FlashimageGUI app that made testing 20 or so kernels over the past day or two less of a headache
Thanks for this. Just installed and seems to be great

For the Kingdom you will need to change the dhcpcd line in speedy.rc to
service dhcpcd_eth0 /system/bin/dhcpcd -ABKL eth0
disabled
oneshot
this will allow for the wifi to enable.
hope that helps

Sweet thanks. I had planed on either asking you today or tearing down your ramdisk to find it. Saved me time. If I add any more tweaks to the ramdisk ill be sure to add this. Much apreciated
Thank you Dodge! XDA is honored by your visit! So... when we getting an AOSP flavor?

Video calling support is in the newer aosp kernels. If you need a start on where to look. I don't think the .13 one does tho I could be wrong. Not sure how easy it would be to impliment. Best of luck tho.

being that the shift doesnt have a front facing camera video calling is kinda pointless (just my opinion)
Check in the dhd and dz threads as there source is very similar to ours
