What kernals and roms are some of you using?
Or what questions should i ask now that I've got EB16, CWM, PNP for EB16?

haha, not so fast big shooter.
there's only one rom and kernel out for EB16. PNP is all for roms right now, and the EA11 voodoo kernel is our only non-stock kernel.
maybe the question you should be asking is, "how do I develop for this?"
Well then....how can I develop for this?! I downloaded sdk..will do some learnin tonight

there is a Sticky topic in the mesmerize General section of how to start developing

What ROMs are currently available for the Mesmerize?
So far, I know about the USCC's official 2.1, the leaked USCC's 2.2 and the USCC's official 2.2.
Are there any custom 2.2/2.3 ROMs floating around?
Just posted my new rom for the ec10 update though it has to be flashed through CWM Recovery

Are any of those based on 2.3 or above?
Did you even look before posting this? Jesus.

I did but the topics are a little messy!
The ROMs say [ROM] at the beginning of the thread title. Pretty tricky.
Lol....no there are no 2.3 based roms out for the mesmerize at this moment but I'm sure we wont have that long of a wait
This really isn't a Development thread type of post. Posts like this should really be kept in the General area. We are getting too many general questions and posts that aren't related to development in here. This is one of the main reasons that it's getting more difficult to find posts that are actually useful.
so me and my bro both have a captivate, i just installed the continuum rom for him, and im running CM7. He cant use CM7 since he need a lot of batter life but he was wondering if there is anyway to lets say get the dialer/keyboard from CM7 and use it on his rom? i know cm7 is a port but there both 2.3 so i was thinking it might work.
thanks
Different dialer apps. Continuum us a samsung rom cm7 is a asop rom. In short, I do not believe so

or we could answer the question if were gonna post anyways.
Krylon has said that that team is no longer together and bionix project is no longer.
he is working with whitehawkx.
i have the bionix 2 and it works great
There is now a MIUI open source!!!!
github.com/MiCode
I know this is great news! But what does that mean for us exactly?
Sent from my Rockin' Galaxy S 4G!
Is the hardest part of getting MIUI to work is getting our kernel go work with it?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Don't worry, we have devs working on kernel. Hypothetically, once the CM7 kernel works, MIUI shouldn't be a problem.
Whooooooooooooo!!!! Falls Out

Yep it's true, I posted about this a week ago....
I have been working with MiuiAnderson to figure out why the build process is not working for the sgs4g. I can build it for the i9000 with no problems...
You won't need a different kernel with this. It ports MIUI to your custom rom.
I will post another update when he gets back to me..
yeah... its been out for while i think... hopefully this will make it for a MIUI ROM on this phone too with official support and stuff
If there is anything I can do to help like test out Rome or something I will be glad to help I myself see me having this device for 2 years.

There's only a handful of custom aosp kernels and a lot of them haven't been updated in a while.
Here's some links for a few

Also Sparksco has a few kernels here https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1kWewyOf4WYpeFwaeXtUG8kn6Xk_w_eG9Yv4-dNoQOlk
My personal favorite is Sparks pershoot kernel.

KERNELS aren't bad once you know where in the source to find certain things that might need some tweaking to work on ported roms. Our phone uses the HTC-msm-7x30 and there's tons of msm-7x30 devices by htc out there that a lot of the hardware is the same. If you want to try and port a kernel just search github for msm-7x30. Only device specific things in the kernels are things like the hardware keyboard, camera/video drivers and things like that which you can find in toastcfh's kernel.

This is all correct... I'll also add that the G2/desireZ (vision) is almost the same as the shift, making it, for the most part, easiest to port. I highly recommend dl'ing Toastcfh's source and a few others (scary ghoul, sparksco, x99) so you can compare. It's convenient to have a solid source to look back on when you get compiling errors.

The latest miui.us rom for shift still needs the fix mentioned in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24335781
In the shift forum on miuis.us u can find an old 2.1.20 build that I pulled the smali from and it works perfect
