This is just an idea I have been thinking about.. How about an app or a tweak so that the youtube app thinks its on wifi meanwhile its actually using the 3g... is that possible?
I have a feeling that T-Mobile's 3G can't quite keep up with most YouTube streams. Sprint and VZW are the only real 3G providers in the US unfortunately
I wouldn't be so quick to say that. the G1 handles pretty good quality streams through others apps such as the weather channel app and a few other entertainment apps that have very high quality streams compared to Youtube over 3G. With google rolling out higher quality (HD) support on their website, they should be offering the same quality on mobile devices.
lol i suggested this in the irc channel. yeah, the 3g speeds are very fast and load regular quality videos MUCH faster than they play. i would say it could definately handle the high quality videos. just have someone edit the program so u can toggle between regular links and links with "&fmt=18" at the end.
i thought i read somewhere that the over wi-fi the youtube videos are more hi-def..
guess that's obvious though
i wish they come up with something like mixtube like the iphone~~it can allow user to select the qualities of video either in 3g or wifi~~it stream the video in to internal memory~~and can be play offline ~

you can actually choose the qaulity of some videos on Vtap...go to m.vtap.com...unlike the 'wikitap' application you can actually view the videos from the site

Folks-
I purchased Wunderradio for my Verizon TP2. It works fine for a short period of time, but then stutters. Once it starts stuttering (lack of buffering?) fugghetaboutit. It never catches up. This happens in metro areas of large cities with excellent 3g coverage. Anyone using this app experience the same thing?
I did find a thread where someone said you do not need a radio program because you can take the .asx location and open it with Window Media. Frankly that works quite well. Here is an example (you can e-mail it to yourself, click on it and be listening to a sports talk show).

So anyone have any suggestions about the stuttering, or about the best way to plug into internet radio? I don't know where to find all the .asx links.

Im looking for recommendations on carriers.
I have sprint with an evo but have no wimax in my home neighborhood. doesnt seem like its coming anytime soon. so while i have an amazing device, sprints data speeds are so slow i constantly buffer HQ YouTube videos.
Im looking for a carrier that can actually stream HQ YouTube videos when I want to watch them, not when my data speeds permit. so I need consistent speed that is capable of allowing HQ YouTube vids to stream smoothly w/out stopping and starting, stopping and starting.
I know of cdma's technical limitations and at&t's data speeds but i dont appreciate a data cap.
please help me in this decision especially if you use multiple carriers in the same area. thank you thank you
So yesterday I had FiOS installed at my house. I have the 50/35mbps tier. Now on both my Nexus 4 and my Note II, if they're connected to my FiOS Wi-Fi, Play Store app downloads are EXCRUCIATINGLY slow! I'm talking about it takes 15 minutes to download a 4mb app! Browsing the play store is as fast as you'd expect. Screenshots in pages load instantly as do videos. But tapping install is the most painful process you've ever seen! It's slower than EDGE! The speedtest.net app on my phone is showing well over 30mbps which is around the limits of what Wi-Fi is capable of. What's going on? It feels like the Play Store is being throttled but that's crazy!
The YouTube app is also VERY slow. This is kinda unacceptable..
Same here

Google play and youtube are both deathly slow at night. Takes hours to download a 10MB app, and youtube videos fail to load or buffer every other second. I have 20/5 FiOS and can get those numbers easily with any speed test. A proxy/VPN resolves the issue, so it's Verizon's fault somewhere along the line. I've been looking for a solution for over a year now and still haven't found one. Calling the service unacceptable is going very easy on them.
Same issue here. So freaking weird. Downloading form the play store is slow as hell. I am force to use my phone hotspot.
I know for a fact its a combination of FiOS and Play Store.
Tablet + using my t-mobile hotspot, Play Store download is fine.
Tablet + Wifi = Play Store download is impossible.
Tablet + ethernet using OTG Host = Same problem. I even try a different router. Same problem.
Only Play Store is a problem. I can browse fine.
Hello,
This has been happening for over a year but it has been getting worse region by region. This **** needs front page news on tech sites.
For all that wonder the issue is with ISP's CDN (Cache servers), I had problems for the past year with youtube all devices. Now this has crossed over to Android apps and this is messed up. I have 75 mbps and download @ 10MB per sec on most services at any time. Only Google is effected.
Most apps have a 39 HOUR download time!
Youtube has been for a year, about 1.5 weeks Google play just got thrown under the bus on CDN servers. There is nothing wrong with you equipment or your network.
Everybody send this into Engadget, Verge and etc.
Look at the searches: https://www.google.com/search?q=fios+youtube+fix
**EDIT**
You can also try blocking a range of CDN servers from your device or router (for all devices) this does not work for all because you have to find your ISP's CDN IP block, then block those IP's. You can also see the network drop, on you you tube play a music video then right click "Video Info" then you will see the download speed for the video go 0kbps to 100 kbps to 0 kbps, over and over.
So I have recently had ultrafast broadband installed (upto 150meg) but find that when I download content like videos or music etc it seems to take forever . I mean with this kind of download speed and album on Spotify for instance should be there really quick right? Sometimes it's taking 20-30-40 mins.
Anyone else aware of any issues around WiFi performance?
