Just updated my PRL this morning and have 60676. Just an FYI.

Thanks for the update buddy
Just updated on the train ride to work. Big different. Getting 4G where I didn't before. +1 for me!!

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Man this seemed to have helped. I tether to my computer and I never really got near 1mb..it was uaually somewhere around .50-.70. Just did speedtest and it seems to be rocking now!
Edit..I don't have 4G in my crummy area so this speed is great for the phone being tethered to my Mac.

It also tells the phone what towers the phone can handshake with. Guess some new towers came up along the NEC. There are a couple of spots along the train ride where 4G drops out. After updating my PRL I have constant 4G all the way to the Hudson Tunnels.

All 4G coverage is technically roaming, since it's run by Clearwire. Sprint brands it as their own because they own 54% of clearwire anyway (and supplied most of the spectrum that clearwire uses, which is arguably more important than who owns who).

Man, I swear all this talk when a new PRL comes out makes me MADDDDDDDD
IT'S A MYTH THAT A NEW PRL WILL GET YOU BETTER DATA SPEEDS, please understand that. You are using a WIRELESS connection and speeds will fluctuate a LOT. If you usually get .8mbps and now you're getting 1.2mbps it's purely BY CHANCE, NOTHING else.
4G DOES NOT USE PRLs!!!!! I didn't know if I wanted to laugh or cry when someone said "it's technically roaming" since 4G is owned by clearwire and not Sprint.
4G is a NEW technology and PRL is only used for CDMA networks. Your 4G performance has absolutely NOTHING to do with a PRL. WiMAX networks, like GSM DON'T NEED PRLs TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phew, sorry, just had to vent.

What it does is very little. Nothing to really lose sleep over or even worry.
All a PRL does is add towers from Roaming agreements that just came online. Nothing less, nothing more...if you live and work in the same place it's a safe bet nothing changes for you...however, if you travel all over the country, then it is always good to have the latest Roaming List Update, specially if you are going someplace new you have never roamed before.
Other than that it's not a real big game changer like a Radio update. That's why it's called a Preferred Roaming List.
Rockin got it done

You can use verizon PRL's on sprint phones. Its really only used by people who have great verizon coverage in their area and bad sprint coverage. It causes the phone to connect to verizon's networks preferably over sprint's.

I'm a sprint rep at an ASC location and I've never had anybody come in and say they got that letter you're talking about, I know it can happen but haven't seen it yet.
And to the OP, a PRL can also remove towers from the list, a bunch of towers were removed from FL in a recent update.

If you're constantly streaming videos and tethering non stop while roaming for MULTIPLE months than yes, they probably would. Outside of doing that, I doubt it. I tethered for a week while I was on vacation and I didn't get a single thing.

I wonder if at&t initially disabled HSUPA until they are "done" with the backhaul upgrades and then push an update to 4G phones, enabling HSUPA, and making it seem as if the upgrades "enhanced" our upload and download speeds? Just a thought.

I would say it's either this, or enough people have actually complained that the iPhone has this feature enabled while their "4G" phones do not. Either way, it's a step in the right direction for ATT. Now let's see how long it takes them to start pushing this update...

I agree. Just wish they would increase the data speeds in Staten Island, NY area. Even with HSUPA enabled on my phone, speeds are not that great.
I'm in San Francisco right now and am clearly in AT&T's 4g territory. Well I'm only pulling 3mb down on a speed test. And my buddy who is sitting right next to me with his iPhone 4 is pulling 4.5 down. I thought the iPhone 4 was only hspa and not even plus?
Is it possible ATT is throttling me because I dont have a "4G" specific plan?

A data plan is of course, always going to be a data plan. There is no difference from one plan to another AFAIK besides 2GB and 4GB or if you're grandfathered for unlimited.
Just obviously with software updates etc. to enable "4G".
I'm up here in MT and I barely touch 1.5Mbps if I'm lucky. My friend has the same issue, and AT&T keeps telling me it's because MT is a "new acquisition". BS I've had the service for almost 3 months now. Learn to put up more towers!

Wells there's not much I can do about it now. I'm in the back seat of a car going 80 miles an hour towards a non '4G' area.
I was certain I flashed the right radio. I have the H emblem next to my service indicator.
Can anyone that has experience with san Francisco confirm my speeds are unusually low? Also does anyone know if the iPhone is hspa+?

3 months is not a long time when you think about it. It takes 3 years and about 2.9 million dollars to put up one single tower.

I'm getting 1.5 in my hometown of Sacramento, but that's clearly not in 4g territory so I assumed its just 3g there (even though I have the h emblem). 3 is definitely than 1.5 but it still doesn't explain why my buddies iPhone is pulling more down when its apparently not capable of hspa+

I have read in a number of posts that the data plan does matter. The 4G plan offer access to another APN, with is required for authentication on the 4G network. In the Dev forum, there is a thread about APNs that discusses this.

I saw the the thread about editing the build prop yes. I just checked att coverage maps for 4g and Sacramento is now in the coverage zone. Should now be seeing hspa+ speeds here. I'll do a test when I get home but I'm willing bet my roommates iPhone will still pull faster speeds than me. I will also get on the phone with att and find out if i need a different plan. Will report back.

Comparing the iphone to the inspire is not really fair as the iphone doesnt use the same apn settings, and they also have a reserved amount of bandwith set aside for iphones only. Not to mention they seem to go faster due to alot of things being cached on Apples servers which the iphone connects to first so it seems like they can pull data faster but it is not what it seems.
Ah, I'm not the only one pulling down slower speeds than other devices. My GF's Infuse consistently pulls down 6-7 mbps while my Inspire, at the same time and location, will pull down 3-4. My build prop is edited, and I've tried other radios (and rils) with not much luck. Is this a device capability issue?
The only thing I haven't done is mess with APNs much. I feel as though it won't change anything, but eventually I'll try that as well.

I would try that, As it can have a great impact on your connection. I could set you up with the old apn settings and you would pull edge speeds. So it only goes to reason that the APN settings might have a large thing to do with it.

I'm going to look around at the speeds others are getting. I just can't seem to get more than 3-5 mbps. I know my area is capable of it because my GF's Infuse gets 5-8 mbps consistently, and at the same time I test mine. Weird.
I'll wait for compelling results before I change mine, because I've been modding heavily the last few days and I'm exactly not in the testing mood.

The day after I got my Inspire, I went to an A's game. The best I got on that trip was 1.5/0.35. A week later in Sac, in the parking lot of the Kaiser on Morse Avenue, I was able to pull 5.0/0.35. The best I got at home in Woodland was 3.0/0.35. I am now rooted, running ClearDroid, and get 4-5 down with upload better than 1. I'm still on my unlimited plan.

Wait...and use the money that's obviously burning a hole in your pocket for more prudent things...such as contributing to your 401k...
Nah, but 4g is ok...I see it as a luxury, if you can afford it and you REALLY want it then sure. But whether or not it's worth is is as simple as thinking about how much you really value a few extra seconds between page loads. With bandwith caps, 4g isn't really all that attractive anymore honestly...

Something else to think about, just because they launch LTE won't guarantee that they will have the backhaul to make it fast. Most, if not all, of Sprints WiMAX, Verizon's LTE is slower than 3G simply because they don't have the backhaul or capacity yet.
It took T-Mobile 2 more years after launching UMTS to get HSPA+ going. Food for thought.

What are you talking about? Did ANYONE in this thread say ANYTHING about T-Mobile and 4G?
Read the post before making idiot responses.
sensation is a solid phone, reminds me of my nexus one that I wish I never traded. Would probably still be using that, instead of the phone path I went through. Pricing of 4g isnt worth it, you can just get internet services at a home. My local carrier is rolling out "4g" and I'm priced for life at $14.99 unlimited text & data. I don't plan on leaving the carrier anytime soon, and my download speeds on average are 3-4mbps, high has been up to 8mbps.
Unless your in a big popular city where they will try to put out the LTE signal and support it I wouldnt worry about it. Everyone I know here (Dallas) on Sprint's 4g and Verizons has sporadic problems with signal and speeds. Its fast when its there but they dont get it much.
T-Mo US's may not be real 4G but they have good coverage (for me) with it and I love the phone so I personally wouldnt wait unless you get some good info on the quality of 4G in your area.

I see just the *slightest* overreaction here.
However, to answer the OP's question: Yes, 4G it's worth it to me. Accessing information no longer takes a brutally long time. I have fewer reasons to take a laptop most of to time. I can have long conversations with my girl or family while browsing these forums or the web in general.
I see download speeds anywhere from 3mbps to 11mbps depending on where I am at the time. This is more that fast enough for me to forget that I am not on Wifi. This is what I have always wanted using a smartphone to be like.

HSPA+ is not 4g and neither is the current iteration of verizons LTE.
LTE is still faster than HSPA+ but it drains your battery. I have been getting amazing HSPA+speeds but its in very limited locations (downtown seattle only). 4G is worth it, be it real or fake its much faster than 3g but i kind of like HSPA+ cuz at least its not such a battery hog like LTE.

If your not talking about LTE, then why are you posting in this thread? Yes, T-mobile's network is HSPA+. No one is arguing that. What we do want to know, though, is why you mentioned it? The OP, who lives in Canada, was asking if it was worth getting the Sensation now (which won't be on a 4G network as it's not launched) or waiting for when they launch LTE (in Canada) and buy it on a 4G LTE network.
What does that have to do with T-Mobile NOT being a TRUE 4G network?
Maybe I read it wrong so,,,

Nope, he was talking about LTE 4G in Canada, NOT T-mobile 4G. Still do NOT understand the point of your comment.
EDIT: On a side note of true 4G. NO carrier in the WORLD can claim 4G as 4G is only classed as WiMAX II or LTE Advanced with speeds of 100Mbps. With that said, T-Mobile is not either of those technologies, but they are half way to the speeds which is about 4 times faster than anyone else in the world.

Not relevant to the OP but the ITU actually stated the term 4g may be applied to "LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed."
i DONT reccommend getting rogers 4G, purely for the excessive cost, shakey availability, and the fact that when they do actually launch, its going to be rife with problems...using 3g on my sensation is mroe than fast enough, and really, if you want fast data, just use home internet and access it with logmein from your fone...
i used to be with rogers, but the cost/bandwidth of data just didnt cut it for me...

The cities included in this initial wave are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Although users in those metro areas will still have very few LTE devices to choose from. Unlike Verizon, which has multiple LTE handsets, AT&T has no phones compatible with the new network. AT&T launched a data stick and a portable hotspot for the LTE network last month. The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.
sweet im in San Antonio for a little while, now for AT&T to get some phones for me to use !!!
Now if they could hurry up and increase the HSPA+ speeds. I'm still only getting 3.5mb download and 1mb upload in downtown Dallas.... iPhone 3gs gets about the same download speed, although only half of the upload speed.
Come to the other side of the Metroplex. Downtown Fort Worth and I am getting 5-7mb down, 1.1-1.3 up. I can't wait for the Holiday with LTE. That will be SO sweet.

X's dos my brotha from anotha motha.
Saved and Texan by the grace of God, Redneck by choice.
I know the Inspire is not a LTE phone, but just launching the network upgrade has helped me to see vastly improved data speeds. I also know the Speed test app is not accurate, but I have never seen it pull these kind of speeds, especially consistently.
Well, I would like if it came out in Madison soon... (and when AT&T has more LTE Android phones)
Ok I live an hour away from Houston. Do you think I would still be getting LTE? Also do we need a new sim card or anything or does it automaticly happends?

As mentioned, you would need a LTE phone first. But, being an hour away from Houston, I wouldn't run out and buy one when they become available. I live in the outskirt of Houston and HSPA+ is non existent at home. In Houston where I work, as posted, I am just now seeing the true benefit of HSPA+. Probably some bottlenecks from ongoing upgrades being freed up, maybe a little congestion as well.

Knowing how AT&T operates, I'd imagine they opened up more bandwidth to the land-based lines to the area first to make sure their LTE debut went well and you're just seeing some of that extra bandwidth.

I'm not as stupid as you. I know when I'm on wifi. Here is the proof.
Here are some from earlier today. The first two were indoors, a large metal building with offices above on the second floor. The first run was bad, only 2800kbps, but I did hit 4916kbps on the second. I then went outdoors and tested a lil slower than yesterday, but not by much, 6485-7767kbps. I know we can't put too much stock in the Speed Test app, but there is some consistency and I'm getting much higher runs than I had been. Also, it seems to be reading my wifi at home with some accuracy.

lol.
Then why do you make statements like LTE network is improving the throughout of a HSPA+ phone on the 3G stack?

Show me where I made that statement. I stated that since the LTE launch, my data speeds have suddenly increased and I'm finally seeing true hspa+, and that is a fact. I provided a couple of possible reasons for this, as someone else cited a possibility as well. I know what you saw. You saw the hosted by Comcast in the screenshot. Lol. Anybody with half a brain would know that there would have been a wifi icon in the status bar if I was on wifi. Next time you open your mouth, try not to put your foot in it. Your little signature says it all. Just because you are in a crummy area, doesn't mean it is like that everywheres.
Check my screenshot of prior tests and tell me if you see any improvement compared to yesterday and today. LOL.

I'm good. I just don't appreciate someone implying I'm either stupid or I'm a liar. It certainly isn't inconceivable that while AT&T was building the LTE network here in Houston, they were improving the backhaul for hspa+. Whatever the source of the improvement, I'm thrilled to see true hspa+ speeds. It is something I never expected to see with my Inspire.
