CWM Problem - G Tablet General

I have installed, or so I believe, CWM v8 onto my Gtab and now I am trying to get it to enter CWM but it will just go to the install animation and then boot right into the TapNTap software. What have I done wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Christopher

then you dont have cwm installed. The command file gets deleted on the first reboot so if it doesnt work you need to replace it. Read this thread to understand update.zip completely

When I download the recovery from my phone it downloads as a txt file. Do I rename it to recovery.img and push it that way.

EDIT nevermind I did the S Off method worked perfectly.

Glad you got it working. To answer the question about .txt on the phone, others have reported that using a different browser works for downloading the .img file correctly. I think they used Dolphin browser from the market.
I tried method 2 and method 3 above without success. Trying to go from 2.5.0.1 to 3.0.0.5. Attempts to boot into recovery and then reboots again and boots normally. Suggestions?
Try the ADB method?

don't flash the 3.0.0.5, you don't need it for GB. the reason I think people have been having so much trouble is that the recovery is overclocked, so some phones can't handle it. same thing goes for the GB rom, if it loops and hangs etc., just flash a capped 691 kernel after the rom and gapps, it *should* work.
OK NOW - TO ALL FUTURE POSTS - PLEASE DON'T, LOL.
AOSP MADE THIS RECOVERY AND IS CONSTANTLY UPDATING IT
3.0.0.5 CAN BE FOUND IN THE 2.3 GINGERBREAD THREAD
INSTALL METHODS CAN BE FOUND ON THE THREAD "READ ME" WIKI,
DIFFERENT VERSIONS CAN BE FOUND ON ROMREPO.INFO

ok Koush did, I know, but the version we are using is tweaked by him.
would you correct me if I said he made his rom, because technincally google MADE it, but he did in fact tweak it,build it,compile it, for the hero.

Method III worked fine for me. Just follow instructions carefully, and don't forget to do "su" first (lets terminal use root privileges).
I'm curious why RomManager doesn't update the version number. I know I'm using 3.0.0.5 because of the new orange text, but RomManager still shows 2.5.0.1
Anyone?

[Q] flashed wrong kernal on my xoom 3.1

I am new to this posting and asking questions. I have a xoom and rooted it and updated it with 3.1 and then I went and updated it with the new rom which came out the other day. I did something studpid and didn't wait for the resolution to the sdcard not being seen after flashing the new deodex rom. I looked on the kernal manager and when I what I thought was the latest kernal I decided to flash it. I now can only get to recovery mode and I don't want to make another mistake. Can someone tell me if I can safely do a wipe data/factory reset? Will that get me back so I can flash the deodex rom back? You dev guys are really awesome and I really appreciate all of your work. Thank you for your support.

If you can get to recovery, just re-flash the rom, it includes its own kernel.
Ok I will and let you know if I am successful. Thank you
I tried to use recovery but my xoom won't see the sd card. I have adb running but really am afraid to use it without some help. Don't want to brick my xoom. I have the kernal zip but don't 1.4.4 and thought if I could flash the kernal to my xoom that would maybe fix it. I read somewhere that you shouldn't flash a zip file, so I don't know what to do. any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Please don't flash any xip file through adb! Why not go into RomManager app and look for an earlier version of recovery, maybe 3.0.2.5, and flash that. A good recovery should allow you to flash from your sdcard through clockwork mod recovery.
I can't get to the rom manager app. Am I missing something? The OS won't boot up and I only have version 4 of the clockwork recovery. What should I do?

There is your problem, you did not read the warnings...DO NOT USE CWM 4.
Grab Recovery Image (solarnz-R4c-100611-1150) FLASHED THROUGH FASTBOOT from this post.

Fastboot flash it, if you don't know how read the post or read my sig. Once you have a working recovery, try my post above.

OK, Thank you very much,,, I will be more careful in the future. I am back up and running the new rom with an older recovery. That taught me a good lesson never to install an earlier version of a kernal and never to try and flash a .zip file from adb. Thank you for the instructions. Is there a book for "adb for dummies"? My name should be in it...

There is actually an ADB tutorial somewhere on this site...seriously, do a search. It had a lot of great information. I like to know what I'm doing...it makes me more nervous to just blindly follow instructions with something like this, but I'm still mostly blind (sigh).

[Q] Renaming the RECOVERY instead of deleting it when INFUSING?

Can I rename it instead (like "Recovery2")?
Why delete when I can rename?

Thanks so much!

The kernel in Infused comes with an alternative (and standard in the third-party Android world) recovery called Clockworkmod Recovery. Deleting the "original" recovery prevents it from interfering with CWM.
Also, even if you delete Samsung's 3E recovery and CWM is hosed, the phone still has download mode (aka Odin/Heimdall mode). Odin/Heimdall can be used to recover the phone from anything except a bad bootloader flash. Our phone has a lot of protections against this, to the point where there is a grand total of 1 hardbricked Infuse, and that was a volunteer running a known dangerous experiment.
For more information on your "safety net" look at AdamOutler's Heimdall One-Click or gtg's Ultimate Unbrick. (These are basically the same thing with different user interfaces.)

[Q]rooting problem

Hello,
I have tried to root my sensation device, I used a guide to do that(forum didn't allow me to link cause I'm a new user), and everything looks fine, my phone says s-off and everything looks alright, however I tried to use titanuim backup, said it requires busybox, installed busybox, says "the su binary was not found on your phone", installed superuser, and tried to update the su binary, and it fails at "checking current install path" and I hit a wall. where have I gone wrong?
also I accidentally hit the SIM lock option on bootloader screen, I don't know what that does, so is this bad? and if so how I fix it.
If you have guessed that I'm a noob, you're right, I just got my first android phone a month ago.
come on people, give me something
reading more on the subject, i'm trying to redo installing recovery described in step 2 here as I said yes when the revolutionary utility asked me to..but the link is dead, so if anyone has another link..
also is it ok to do that? running another recovery..

Yes that page . An older version of recovery is attched on that page. It can be downloaded here.
Now,
1. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
2. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen
3. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
4. Press Power Off
5. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card
6. Reboot
Alternatively ,
If you have fastboot and adb setup on your pc then download the recovery from here.
Then flash it by the following command in fastboot
"fastboot flash recovery your-recovery-file.img"
After flashing recovery download the flashable su binary from here.
Put it the root of your sdcard.
Flash it via recovery.
Now you are root.
Note: **** If you get installation aborted while flashing su binary , do toggle signature 3 or 4 times . Then try again ****
oh thank you very much, you've been a great help, I'm now rooted, now onto trying to install a new ROM, god help me
try using the guide on the cyanogenmod website! It's the one i used and the one that seemed the most helpful
I've searched there for a while but couldn't find one, could you provide a link if its not too much trouble?

[Q][A700]How to undo CWM and restore factory recovery

Hi,
I'm in the situation of having a working tablet, but the dodgy version of CWM. The original thread has been deleted and I remember there was adb command at the end to stop the original update.zip from flashing the factory recovery, but not what it was so I can reverse it !
So if anyone can help me out, that would be great, so I can avoid a bricked device !

Thanks! However, the US Version doesn't have an update for it, at least not yet, and I haven't been able to find a stock US A700 ROM.
So we would need to rename the install-recovery.old back to install-recovery.sh in /system as this was disabled in CWM ??
So has anyone managed to successfully put on the stock recovery ?? !!

Take a little advice folks. If you don't know what you're doing, and your tab is running fine, don't be messing with anything. Just leave it alone til a better method comes.
My guess, if you rename your recovery.sh, is that when you boot, you will either get;
A. a "loading recovery kernel" message that just stays there
or
B. an "invalid recovery image", or something similar.

I don't understand these instructions. What original file is being replaced? What update.zip are you referring to?
EDIT
Well, I tried to swap out the update script that came in the ROM: SDs_Acer_A700_AV043.RV00RC00_AV043.RV07RC04_EMEA_CUS1, with the one provided above and seemed to have made some progress...I put on an external SD card and renamed to update and then flashed it through the CWM recovery and it completed. A random offset was noted and then the SD update completed note. However, when I rebooted the device it stuck at the Acer logo and never went any further.
EDIT
So, it then occurred to me that the flash through CWM was probably only partially successful - maybe the replacement of the recovery worked. So, I took the same ROM I noted above, unmodified, placed on the external SD card, renamed, etc. and flashed it and it worked - I never saw any signs of CWM during this process. I hope this helps others too.
EDIT
Looks like I spoke too soon...the flash never got past a 1/4 of the progress bar. Looks like I still have a non-functioning device.

Hi, I'm a A510 user. I used the CWM to wipe data/factory reset, after that i cant flash any zip, and even cant enter the system. When i turn on the tab, it stuck on 'iconia tab' LOGO, I tried to hard reset, then i got a 'Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x19000008)'
I enter the fastboot and flash the stock recovery back. next i use the recovery to flash update.zip as usual, but every time the flash will stuck in 1/5 of the whole progress bar, I changed it with other rom zip, or even change the SD card, it didn't work anyway!
every time the flash stuck in the same place of the whole progress bar, i guess it is not an accident! After read your solution, I check the script in my zip, then i delete 2 lines about 'format' command. I think this time will be ok! but to my surprise the green turtle fell down when flashing.
I think the idea is great, but it maybe make the script incomplete, so it cant be flash in.:crying:
