Heading over to the Motorola Atrix in a few weeks - Captivate General

Just wanted to thank everyone on the forum who has helped me over the months with questions. Also thank you to all the Rom cookers out their for making this phone great. My work has finally decided to give true smart phones to us instead of Blackjacks. This will allow me to sell my Captivate and have a phone covered under the company insurance policy so my life is easier if i somehow break the phone. With the exchange for a newer model and the extended battery this phone has worked great for me but its time to move on.

D2G/DPro SBF has been publicly released (link inside)

Just saw a series of tweets from @P3Droid saying they're looking for a soft-bricked D2G or Pro to test SBF files on. He said he's in the Phoenix area so do yourself and everyone else a favor if you've got a phone to send him and get that sucker fixed!
Edit: At 11:30 p.m. EST on 1/2/2011, @P3Droid tweeted that they will be publicly releasing the SBF files for both the D2G and Pro within the next 12 hours. I'll post a link to their posting once it's up. Note that they caution you to grab the stuff ASAP as it will likely be taken down by Moto via C&D (not that there won't be plenty of mirrors after that)
Edit2: It looks like links are up on Team Black Hat's forum. I assume since this is now for free there is no issue linking to their forum but if anyone better versed than I in the rules disagrees, please say so and I'll take the link down.
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...id-2-global-sbf-file-2-4-29-full-rsdlite.html
Again, thanks to Team Black Hat for the great work they do and for the decision to rapidly release this SBF publicly. Hopefully the short window between it being kept exclusive to their app and the public release will not deter folks from supporting the cause.
bout time. This will really get the modding community going for the global finally. Hear that all they need to do now is test it and they'll be set.
Yes this is very good news.
See my post down further as to see why I say this isn't good news.
Hint: This smells like a scam.
i hope that this is true, then we could start seeing a lot more modds dfor the d2g
Of course, 2 days after i send my brick in to verizon. good news tho
If you check the twitter account it says that the phone must be mailed just like the band unlock guy... I smell a scam and I for one do not recommend sending any phones by mail to anyone you don't know. You're just asking to have your phone stolen.
I wouldn't trust anyone who says that you must mail the phone to them or that you must meet them in person. If they really want to be trust worthy they will just give you the link to the file straight up. If they needed testers then they can setup a private channel on irc or something.
This is not a scam.
All of the members of TBH have NS(Non Secured) flash dev phones because that is what we personally chose to spend our own money on.
We also have consumer hardware test phones for other models but not the D2G or Pro.
We cannot test the SBF files we got recently on our phones and cannot afford to purchase these models at full retail to test the files.
We are well established in the community and have provided virtually all of the leaked SBF files for all of the Droid devices in existence.
Our record of community service stands for itself and has no comparable parallel.
Everybody wants these files and we want to release them so users who have soft bricked can recover and everyone can breathe a little easier modding these phones.
I would ask anyone who questions our motives how much of their own money they have spent on providing the community with such valuable resources as these files?
Anybody?
I thought so...

I do apologize as I'm new to having a Motorola device and thus do not know all of the developers yet for this brand of hardware. I recently came over from an HTC phone which has the Unrevoked team behind it for rooting purposes and so forth.
I only claimed that this seemed like a scam as I'm cautious about these short of things and your request asking for phones to be mailed seems very much so a tail tell sign of a scam. Again I apologize if this is your preferred operating procedure.
If I had better information about your group/organization then I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. If I had a soft bricked phone and had this information before hand I would have been more willing to help out. Though I personally still do not want to ship any phone via the mail. I would prefer an in person meeting where this test could then be conducted.
I too understand these phones are not cheap and it's not easy for developers to obtain consumer devices for testing purposes. Since these phones cost so much is why I'm cautious when it comes to someone asking for a phone to be mailed in.
I think the best way to test whether its an sbf or not is to make a new thread with links to it and a disclaimer, if it works, hey, that's awesome, if it doesnt, who cares, the phones its being tested on are already softbricked anyhow.
My question is, what if it is the sbf? Besides fixing softbricked phones, what more can be done with it?

We will not release anything until we have had a chance to thoroughly test it for ourselves, not all things we get are worth releasing.
To be honest this thread started good but really went silly rather quickly. Neither Cell nor myself need to defend the work we have done for the community and to state that we are scamming is asinine. As Cell stated we have lots of devices in many different flavors, they are not consumer phones therefore we can not always test things that we would like to.
I'm sure you know what TBH does and what we have done, if not you can most likely find 1 or 2 posts about us online somewhere. This is not a question of us not knowing what the files are, we know what we have in hand therefore that is not the question being asked. The request is for a consumer device to test this on.
So if you know someone with a phone that is inoperable have them contact us, so we can help them out and in return help out the entire community.

Has anyone offered to send a phone to you yet? Where are you located?
No, I went and bought a new D2G from VZW tonight so I can manage this myself.
Once testing is complete we will decide when and how to release the SBF file.
You're welcome...
sorry if I came off as a bit "silly" i do know about tbh and their contributions to the droid community. i was just suggesting an alternative way of testing this, but i understand your concern about releasing it publicly, it may cause more harm than good.
while im here, might i ask if the 3g mobile hotspot patch can be made for the d2g, seeing as how you have a d2g now? ive been waiting a while hoping that someone can make the patch for the d2g.

Hey guys, sorry for the harassment/doubters. Unfortunately, the couple of posters who got on here were too lazy to follow the links on your twitter account to the website where it can be clearly seen just how crazy active you guys are on the Android scene and how reasonable you are with these types of requests.
Thanks so much for all the work you do to make Android phones do what they're supposed to do (stupid carriers with their stupidity). You guys do great work and I, for one, appreciate it a lot! Looking forward to the release

This is very generous from your side!
I don't know about others, but I think we should establish a fund or something like that to cover such expenses for our development teams. I am totally willing to shell some money for having the peace of mind of having the SBF file for my D2G laying around ready shall the need arise.
Right now (without SBF) I am reluctant of touching anything on my phone due to lack of safe way out. I am not in the States and exchanging the phone will cost me considerable amount of money and efforts.
Not sure if I should start a new thread for this as cellzealot already bought the phone, but I if this gets somehow organized, I am in with $20 to offset the expense. $20 is much less than what I would have to pay to ship the phone anywhere for whatever reason.
cellzealot, does your team have a paypal or something we can use for the purpose?
I have a Droid2Global that boots but is stuck at the stupid Backup Manager screen and doesn't allow me to go anywhere else. If you want, I'm more than happy to try the SBF out on that D2G if you send me the SBF. PM me if you want me to try it.
@leobg: Thanks for the offer of support.
We really don't care for the practice of plastering donate buttons all over in every forum where we post...so we don't do it.
The best way to support TeamBlackHat and the continued availability of these files and our other development projects is to purchase our app in the market for the extremely reasonable sum of $2.00 US. It is just a downloader that provides our users with access to all of the various leaks and other files. There is a filter that only presents content for the specific connected device.
There is also a donate button at the top of the screen for further support if you are feeling generous, thanks. The files are made available via the app exclusively for some period and then posted publicly for everyone later on MyDroidWorld. http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/forum.php
That is our way of providing a perk for our supporters and also assuring that all content is made available to the entire community.
This also prevents us from being accused of "selling leaks", despite the fact that those making such accusations have no clue whatsoever how these files are acquired or at what cost.
This is what we do and have been doing for most of the past year or so since the advent of Motorola Android phones with the original Droid.
There is no profit in this at all...trust me...it's just a way for us to absorb some of the cost of our passion for these devices and serve a unique and critical function to meet need for these kinds of files.
Nobody else has consistently proven to have access to these files except us and we have released every flash file for every Motorola Droid device in existence with the exception of two that RootzWiki released.
We don't do a lot of self promotion and prancing around on forums attracting attention to ourselves, that's not our way.
Thanks again for your interest and support!
Just sent you a donation for your work on the droid 2 global sbf. Your work is much appreciated!
THANK YOU!

Verizon tier 2 tech support agent here...

Just wanted to say hey to my fellow android enthusiasts, as stated I am a VZW tech support agent and just wanted to welcome you guys to ask me questions if there is ever something you feel I may be able to assist you with and at the same time be an asset for me because you guys may have fixes I'm not aware of. I love talking tech and and am running a rooted gnex plus I've worked at the retail store and owned many of the phones that have been out over the last year, and I know there's always something to learn. So with that being said please subscribe to this thread and see if this can be a useful tool of information for myself and you guys, the consumer. Thanks and appreciate any feedback!

First of all thank you for taking questions. I am a verizon customer and have had the galaxy s3 for about three months now. I have had on and off reception problems since I got it but I was able to fix those problems with re-flashing os, but it is starting to become more of hassle and problem to have to do that all the time. More frequently now I lose signal and then get it back, every day this happens and I even missed calls from my family and jobs that I wanted to work for. Also it has not been only my phone but my wife's also, hers is even worse then mine and does that same problem every other hour now. I since have called verizon and talked to some nice support people about it and we went through the whole tech side and I have done everything possible to fix it software wise, so she reset the network to both of our phones but still no go. Now I have my first replacement for both of us and new sim cards in the mail.
update: I received the new phones and sim cards, everything was working well as I thought it would being the first time booting but after six hours the reception went hay wire, again.
My question to you is what steps can I take to getting a replacement phone that is not the galaxy s3. I talked to a lot of people and they have admitted that the reception was a problem with the s3 and that the Note 2 was built with a better antenna because samsung knew about the problems with the s3. I am a very nice person but I would love to have the Note 2 with the better reception. What can I do?

Need a new phone (poor college student)

Hi. I'm currently using a Nexus One on an ATT prepaid plan. I am not a very heavy cell user, but I appreciate having a smartphone, and fortunately for me, the 2yr old (almost 3yr old) Nexus One has been powerful enough for my uses. I am glad that community roms like evervolv make it possible for me to have the latest software on such an old phone.
However, one big issue has forced me to upgrade: The call-volume is too low, and despite spending 10+ hours last week trying different roms, it is just impossible for me to make calls on the phone.
Long story short: I need a new phone. I don't want to spend too much money ($100-150 at most), and my needs aren't very much. I don't mind buying a used phone, so long as it is an upgrade from the Nexus One, and actually has decent call volume. Can be ATT or unlocked.
Does anyone know what would be a good upgrade with this budget? I suppose anything made in 2011 would be decent (Maybe a Galaxy SII)? Ideally, I would have something that the community still makes mods for, so that I can continue to have new software. I havne't been keeping up with phones, so I don't know what would be good.
Thanks.
Sir, there is a thread in place that can assist you: **DEVICE SUGGESTION THREAD** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!
Thank you & Thread Closed

Are we doomed?

Let me start by saying I love this phone and am very happy With it But like some of us flashoholics are we're always looking...
From what I see.. A lot of people are on the T-mobile thread and not so many here. I see a few nice roms there.. And nothing other than stock deodexed for us. I'm keeping the faith the development will come for us but I just don't know. Any thoughts?
Yes doomed, cause you know 2 months from release and being on the only CDMA carrier with the phone, plus a small carrier no one likes. Who would guess there is not much development.
Come on guys. Put up or shut up, do something for the community (mod yourself, build a ROM, offer incentives, etc). It's like a lot of you want people top do things for you but the only thing you are willing to contribute is complaints about how fast others are working.
I'll contribute cash donation if someone comes out with something!
the only thing that i would like to see is SELinux permissive. after that xposed all the way!
Dennis. I was just noticing the development in the T-mobile thread is moving at a faster pace then Sprint. Development is very time consuming and my heart would be in the right place but I just wouldn't have the time or the complete knowhow to build a rom. I am a recognized tester for many years with sac on the s4 and am very close With one of the best themers on XDA "cerj" which I test regularly for him. I am willing to contribute $ to our cause as my self and a few others bought a s4 for sac just so he can develop for us. So my brother.. Cool your jets. I was just sparking a flame to gather the troops...
Recently T-Mobile always has more development then sprint. It's easier to develop for a GSM phone them a cdma, plus more people use GSM. Development is either going to stay or not. As it is right now, a lot of the edge/N4 mods are usable. I would try to do something but with 2 small kids and both me and my wife having full time jobs it's difficult to fib the time to do more then mess around, and since I'm fine with the stock ROM with xposed I'm working on something i know is a long shot but, I want to see if i can find a way to completely unlock the sim card slot.
ive been flashing roms since my ppc6700..... and every new phone for every year in between lol........ i would build a rom but have NO clue how or what to do.... i work alot and have 2 beautiful kids that take most of my time..... i hope we get a rom for this device cause its totally worth it.... ill put in cash on one for sure
I guess we will see what the future brings
Future is already here. And so much has occurred for the Sprint variety - My head is spinning around the madness! Just make the switch already, people! T-Mob will even pay your ETF's!!! Like the Geico commercial: "Everybody knows that..." Sad to say, but Sprint's day(s) of develpment support are numberd, as is their poor cellular service AND 4th-ranked customer service. In case you're not aware, 4th is the bottom of the pack, technically. If they offered their service to me for free, even unlimited everything / unthrottled data, I'd still not take it. As a company, they're outdated. As for customer service, they're dooty water, as for they're hardware (devices) they have lack of attraction to developers nowadays. The EVO was and still is their love child, and that was essentially 10 years ago. Needn't more be said...

Sprint payed my AT&T installment payments off, something T-Mobile does not do, plus I got to keep my old phone to sell it. Add to that I get LTE more reliably then on AT&T or T-Mobile, my calls sound much better then any of the other 3 carriers, it's cheaper then any of the other 3 (2 lines, 40GB shared, $130), and the customer service had been average I'd say I'm on the winning side here (for me). T-Mobile and I had some issues, as in they would not fix their mistake in my social so I could not make changes to my account online (my social changed after my first bill, but they were not allowed to change it even when I showed proof of my social. So I won't be going back to them, couldn't even cancel my account properly so i ended up with a $1300 bill.
In short no I won't be going to T-Mobile any time soon.
Let get to work n get to cooking a rom. who have a kitchen to get started

Petition to Samsung.

Hi.
What kind of power we can have if we will make petition to Samsung software/developement team to do some updates of Android to our phone?
How many users are here that have this awesome mobile?
I always think is good idea to try than moan...
I e-mailed Yotaphone and asked if they would consider making a qwerty slider....
I think it would be beneficial if we all did the same.
It is not my intention, to find new device.
I am fed up going for new.
Old is good enough many times.
Our mobile is enough for emails, www etc. but the only downside is software.
It's not going to happen. Both the carrier (T-Mobile) and Samsung would need to agree that it's worth spending a lot of money to give this phone an upgrade. Given that both companies want you to buy a new phone every 5 minutes, neither of them want people to be satisfied with their old phone. And speaking of old, this phone is almost 3 years old and has a small user base. There are hundreds of more popular phones released between then and now which haven't seen updates, so no one's going to pay much attention to ours. The only way to get updates is to make them ourselves.
If we don't try - we will never know for sure.
How many registered users are in Relay section, can anybody check?

I'm still using mine, but it's really a secondary phone at this point. Given that the flex cable is this phone's Achilles heel, I don't slide the keyboard out very often, either.
lol. How about a few of you...
a) learn to code and help move the 5.x support forward,
b) donate a phone to a dev, since the two primary developers no longer OWN a relay (and both have mentioned that they would be willing to work on it if somebody donated a phone).

I would love to learn how to code but no one really has time to teach and i know there are plenty of guides but I'm afraid I'll kill my phone. I've already managed to kill my usb port, not from coding attempts, but nonetheless inoperable. As for donating, the relay is my only working t mobile phone so I don't want to give it up. I would, however would pitch in on one. From what I've seen they go for about 100 or so. I would like to be part of the solution in any way I can.
Another Relay user here...
Since this is one of the last good QWERTY phones around, figured it was time to stop just lurking this forum and sign up lol. I'd also be willing to test any new 5.x ROMs built, since I'll have an alternate phone in a couple of days that I can fall back to if I break this one.
I have a phone and I can code, however I need somebody who give me clue or some direction to follow. I've never coded for hardware, only business apps.
This one is not gonna be cheap, but if it runs android it will be amazing:
