[Q] Using Windows 7 to Make Handsfree Phone Calls Using Nexus S - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While watching QVC last night[?!!?!?], some muppet from HP was trying to flog a massively overpriced laptop. One feature which attracted my attention was that he made a hands free phone call using his laptop paired via bluetooth to his phone.
I am struggling to find information about this feature on the interweb, but on this page (http://dummy-essentials.blogspot.com/2010/07/make-phone-calls-via-computer-using.html) apparently all you need to do is pair the laptop and phone and then double click which takes you to a screen where you can dial the number.
I have paired my phone to my laptop but it doesn't seem to have any features or show any capabilities - does this mean that Windows needs specific drivers for compatibility?
Anyone use this feature? Anyone know how to make it work?
Cheers all

Just go to Gmail and make a phone call. It's free and doesn't use your cell minutes

is there such software that can do this?

is there a software of where you can answer your Fuze's phone call or make a phone call wireless from your pc?? like you have your fuze in one room and someone calls and youre on the computer, on the computer it alerts you and you can answer the call and talk straight from the computer without havin to go all the way to the other room and getting it, if anyone knows a software that can do that plz tell me, thnx alot
I haven't done this but I think you can do that over bluetooth. I was just playing around with my Bluetooth the other day and saw hands free as an option. So maybe the software is built right in to windows. But as i said I haven't tried it so i don't know if it is or not.
Also an alternative to a computer, is getting a Bluetooth head set so when the phone rings you just turn the headset on and start chatting.
Hopes this helps

bluetooth is good... range is maybe up to 32 feet or so...
you can find cheap bluetooth deals (i got a Nokia BH200 for $0.99 after rebate, though there's no noise cancellation... if you need a good one, look for one with noise cancellation
something like it, but not quite...
if you had your bluetooth connected to the phone and the phone is in another room, you can use mymobile.. I found it through blownfuze.org which has an excellent site for finding anything for the phone... the webmaster at blownfuze.org doesn't allow anyone to just link to their page, so out of respect, i list the site and where to go...

its not exactly wireless because it has to be connected to the computer... but
http://blownfuze.org/index.php#2 just go to this section and in the first paragraph along the lines of basic apps and tweaks.. my mobile is the 4th list teal hyperlink , i use it now and its really cool.. if u use vista, then you have that small thumbnail that pops up on the screen when you hover the mouse over its minimized window.. mymobile lets you view everything on screen.. as if your phone is in the computer. have fun and if you need help, pm me or the guy over at blownfuze.org he's so helpful!
its not difficult dude! just go to the site and download the file run it on your computer and...
bam!! Right in the Kisser!

Is it possible to use the tab as dialer for my Nexus 1

As I have only data and sms on my subscription on my Tab I would like to have a dialer on the tab which uses my gmail contacts (they are already synced to the tab) to make a call through my Nexus One phone.
Then I could keep it in my pocket or somewhere else during driving as I use the tab for music and navigation in my car.
Does anyone know of a dialer that can do this?
That would definitely be cool.
So, you want the Tab/Nexus to immitate a bluetooth headset?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Just the tab.
So. I don't recall having seen anything that remotely controls a cellphone. However, couldn't you have google voice make a call the same way it does when you use it from your pc and it first calls the number associated with your google voice account, then connects the call with the desired contact?
I know that is not specifically what you are looking for but might provide some ideas.
Otherwise, from what I understand you are saying is basically a remote controll for your phone? It doesnt necissarily need to be via bluetooth. I control my ip handset over the internet with the tie in to my enterprise im client. I can control any of the several ip phones I have attached to my profile in the call manager.
Let me know if you find this elsewhere. Looks like a great application for the tab. Im starting to have device overload!

Nexus 5 + Ford Sync

Has anyone tested out their Nexus 5 with Ford sync? I'll post up when I test it on Thursday, hopefully we get all the features like reading texts and meta info.
Edit 11/8/2013: SMS through Ford Sync works! It can ready them out loud, or display them on screen. Here is a one minute video demo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvJshq0IFpo
I can't comment on Ford, but on Honda. When I connected my n5 to the Bluetooth it had new permissions such as reading text, which never was shown with the n4. So maybe something new in kitkat made it work?

The Nexus 4 was horrible with Sync, for some reason GPS wouldn't work unless you rebooted the phone.

Bluetooth is jittery on my side but the receiving party on the other side can hear me clearly. I have a Ford Sync. This is very disappointing.
I setup my phone with ford sync this morning. So far no issues. I did not make or receive any phone calls or texts however.
I'm testing mine today more thoroughly. It did say that "this phone does not support the MMS feature" so FORD better hook us up with an update or they might as well call it iFord Sync.
No problem in 2012 edge

Can someone confirm it reads and will send SMS messages? Or does everything through Sync send as an MMS?
Sounds like it receives and dials calls fine, but if texting also works, I may upgrade. The Nexus 4 currently does not support any texting features.

What do you mean by the GPS works?

When I requested directions, I couldn't get a lock on my location, so directions could never commence. (I think the Fiesta has a different Sync system where you have to call Sync and it sends via your phone the directions.)
2013 F150 Contact Pictures?
Has anyone figured out how to get your contact pictures to show up in your address book?
I don't have my nexus 5 any more (moto x) but I don't think it's possible for contact photos to show up. I can't get music covers to show either. I think the pictures we use for both those things are too large and Sync doesn't know what to do with them?
A good test would be to make some testing contacts with different size contact phones and see if one works. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Is there any possible way you could help me out? I have a nexus 5 running the newest version of KitKat, and I just updated my ford sync this morning to the newest version. I have the ford sync my touch whatever, the top of the line sync system and my phone is T-Mobile. When I connect through BT, I can play music fine but it will not do texts, it just says it's incompatible. What carrier are you with? Is your n5 rooted? If so what ROM and kernel version? Also are you using hangouts or did you add on the aosp SMS app? Please help I'm so bummed right now
I have Ford touch sync on 2013 cmax enerji and n5. I am rooted (stock/franco), but MAP was restored with kitkat. The ability is software dependent not carrier. I'm on gophone. You may have to delete phone and re-pair; possibly even reset sync. I use hangouts. Mine seemed to lose text ability a few weeks back. For me, just deleting phone worked.

Nope. In order for it to work with non-Samsung devices you need to install Gear Manager and Atb manager apps on your devices, no way to do that with iphone.
Edit: Did a quick search online and someone said they connected it to an iPhone and it did make calls. When you get it try using blutooth and connect it to your iphone.
wont work
The gear 2 arrived and not visible to the iphone but works great with my note 3 maybe there will be a test firmware out soon.

hey guys,
I have a gear 2 neo and a iphone 5s,
when you go on watch and go to settings, bluetooth and select "make device visible" you can pair to an iPhone.
working
make a call with the dialer
iphone ringtone comes through when receiving call
receiving a call.
call logs
contacts
not working
siri
all other apps that communicate with phone so watch-on heart rate and pedometer etc still work.
How were you able to check off the make device visible?
It's grayed out.

Yep that did it. Works now.
All we need is for samsung to release an app to get the other functions working now.
Wow, hope that happens for you guys - the voice commands are an awesome part of the watch. Not sure if Apple will allow the watch to ever hook into Siri, though. I'm suspecting you may have to wait for Apple to release theirs.

Works indeed on my iPhone 5S, nice
Too bad no other notifications (SMS, Whatsapp, ...) are sent to the iPhone..
Hopefully with a jailbreak tweak? + rooted Gear 2?
So just a quick recap:
The Gear 2 does connect with the iPhone through BT and calling and receiving calls works, as well as contacts and call logs.
Can someone confirm?
guys by know you should know that Apple and samsung have been in lawsuit to one another so no way they have any of there gear to work with iPhone

So Calls and some other functions work, and if you don't have an android device with Bluetooth you can still install gear 2 apps with a computer and the Tizen SDK (adb ripoff) as long as you have the install package

I've only managed to connect by BT to see the number calling you (no contact name), but I can not see the contacts or notifications ... NEED HELP!
got a question for anybody who's watching this thread: when i try to connect my gear 2 to my iphone 5s(jailbroken) it always ask me to factory reset my gear 2 neo. any suggestions as to why it's doing that or any solutions??
It does that whenever you pair to a new device. Is designed to only be paired to one phone so it will reset if that phone changes.

I am facing the exact same problem with my Tizen Gear 1. I have set it up with an android device, but when I try to connect with an iPhone the God damned watch wants to reset itself, so I cannot connect it,
The crazy thing is that I have done it in the past. I have been using my Tizen Gear 1 with my 5S for quite some time, I do not remember having to deal with this error message.
Any help?

Your gear is going to reset every time you repair it. When it goes to the setup connection screen, tap the watch icon in the top left about 20-25 times, it will then show a message at the bottum. After that message disappears hold down on the watch icon until you get to the clock screen. This will activate without connection. Then go to setting>connections>Bluetooth and hit make visible. Your iPhone will show it as 'gear 2 (xxxx) hit that and it will pair. The only thing working so far are the stand alone apps and calling.

Unbelievable. Oneplus claims that a bug is now a feature.

Here, check this out.
Me:
When two BT devices capable of telephony functions are connected, the second one connects as "Connected (no phone)", and its telephony function cannot be used.
Example (picture attached). If Huawei Watch is already connected, when Jabra Talk attempts to connect, it will connect as described above, and one cannot make or receive phone calls on Jabra Talk (but still can on the watch.)
Oneplus support:
Thank you for taking the time to send us this email as well as the screenshot that you provided. I understand that you want to use both of the Bluetooth devices for easy access and getting in touch with loved ones for helping us keep on track with our daily activities.
I would like to inform you that the OnePlus 6 can actually connect to two Bluetooth devices. However, by default, you can only choose one for making and receiving calls. Just choose which you preferred to use by toggling the "Phone calls" under each setting of the Bluetooth devices.
This bug was not present in 5.1.5. They introduced it in 5.1.6/7.
This bug is present in all Pixel phones because it's a buggy Google code that Google simply does not care to fix.
Samsung fixed this in their phones.
So, I am guessing OP had this fixed in 5.1.5, but then they just lazily copied and pasted that Google garbage code.
And they don't know how to fix it now. So now it's a freaking feature.
UNBELIEVABLE!
I have the same problem with my Huawei Watch and my cars hands free system
I tried to disconnect the watch with Tasker as soon as my hands free system connects, but it never worked reliable (because the watch connects again immediately and takes over the call functionality)
I guess we need to wait until we get Android Pie because as far as I know this problem is solved with Android Pie

I hope so. But I'm not that hopeful - I think it's a Google bug, and they simply don't care to fix it.
Meanwhile, I have to disable the phone functionality on the Watch so I can use my hands free car kit.
It's so disappointing, especially since this stuff always worked with Samsung phones, OOS 5.1.5 (the bug was introduced in 5.1.6/7) and even the early Pixel, pre Android 7.0.2.

I disabled the phone functionality too
I had a Samsung phone before as well (Note 8) and with that I had no problems with my hands free kit but instead the smartwatch lost the phone functionality after a few hours so I always had to reconnect it (basically the same problem but the other way round)... it's very frustrating that such a pretty basic thing doesn't work properly
I also tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect
but it didn't seem to make any difference, it didn't seem to make anything at all
I read that Android Pie is able to connect to more than one Bluetooth headset at a time so this should fix the issue after all

I had a Pixel XL for over a year. Only kept it for Project FI. Bug ridden POS.
Sold it for half going price just so I could feel clean again.
Even if Samsung *used* to have sluggish Touchwiz in the past, at least it didn't have deal breaking bugs.
Don't even have to make my own code - some XDA roms had fixed this bug, as opposed to Google.

I am almost positive that if you had a somewhat similar problem on a Note 8, it's probably Google's fault.
I don't really use the 2 BT phone functionality for more than 30 min on average, but I've never had any problems on Note 7, GS6 or GS9, or even on a Pixel pre 7.0.2 android, when this bug was first introduced.
After 7.0.2, bluetooth stuff just broke everywhere. This bug, constant disconnects and reconnects, for some people music skips, for some doesn't even work, BT UI in Settings just crashing etc.
It's like Google replaced their BT programmer with a monkey at that point, or even a monkey's nephew.
So just because you cannot use 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously to make phone calls, it's a deal breaker??? Lmao please please please go back to Samsung so we don't have to hear the whining anymore. Good luck with those bootloaders
