Has anyone tested out their Nexus 5 with Ford sync? I'll post up when I test it on Thursday, hopefully we get all the features like reading texts and meta info.
Edit 11/8/2013: SMS through Ford Sync works! It can ready them out loud, or display them on screen. Here is a one minute video demo:

I can't comment on Ford, but on Honda. When I connected my n5 to the Bluetooth it had new permissions such as reading text, which never was shown with the n4. So maybe something new in kitkat made it work?

The Nexus 4 was horrible with Sync, for some reason GPS wouldn't work unless you rebooted the phone.

Bluetooth is jittery on my side but the receiving party on the other side can hear me clearly. I have a Ford Sync. This is very disappointing.
I setup my phone with ford sync this morning. So far no issues. I did not make or receive any phone calls or texts however.
I'm testing mine today more thoroughly. It did say that "this phone does not support the MMS feature" so FORD better hook us up with an update or they might as well call it iFord Sync.
No problem in 2012 edge

Can someone confirm it reads and will send SMS messages? Or does everything through Sync send as an MMS?
Sounds like it receives and dials calls fine, but if texting also works, I may upgrade. The Nexus 4 currently does not support any texting features.

I have a 2011 Fiesta and I can confirm that the GPS works with the N5. Also I now get SMS notification on the display, but can't figure out if I can do anything else with it (read or send).

When I requested directions, I couldn't get a lock on my location, so directions could never commence. (I think the Fiesta has a different Sync system where you have to call Sync and it sends via your phone the directions.)
2013 F150 Contact Pictures?
Has anyone figured out how to get your contact pictures to show up in your address book?
I don't have my nexus 5 any more (moto x) but I don't think it's possible for contact photos to show up. I can't get music covers to show either. I think the pictures we use for both those things are too large and Sync doesn't know what to do with them?
A good test would be to make some testing contacts with different size contact phones and see if one works. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Is there any possible way you could help me out? I have a nexus 5 running the newest version of KitKat, and I just updated my ford sync this morning to the newest version. I have the ford sync my touch whatever, the top of the line sync system and my phone is T-Mobile. When I connect through BT, I can play music fine but it will not do texts, it just says it's incompatible. What carrier are you with? Is your n5 rooted? If so what ROM and kernel version? Also are you using hangouts or did you add on the aosp SMS app? Please help I'm so bummed right now
I have Ford touch sync on 2013 cmax enerji and n5. I am rooted (stock/franco), but MAP was restored with kitkat. The ability is software dependent not carrier. I'm on gophone. You may have to delete phone and re-pair; possibly even reset sync. I use hangouts. Mine seemed to lose text ability a few weeks back. For me, just deleting phone worked.

As I have only data and sms on my subscription on my Tab I would like to have a dialer on the tab which uses my gmail contacts (they are already synced to the tab) to make a call through my Nexus One phone.
Then I could keep it in my pocket or somewhere else during driving as I use the tab for music and navigation in my car.
Does anyone know of a dialer that can do this?
That would definitely be cool.
So, you want the Tab/Nexus to immitate a bluetooth headset?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Just the tab.
So. I don't recall having seen anything that remotely controls a cellphone. However, couldn't you have google voice make a call the same way it does when you use it from your pc and it first calls the number associated with your google voice account, then connects the call with the desired contact?
I know that is not specifically what you are looking for but might provide some ideas.
Otherwise, from what I understand you are saying is basically a remote controll for your phone? It doesnt necissarily need to be via bluetooth. I control my ip handset over the internet with the tie in to my enterprise im client. I can control any of the several ip phones I have attached to my profile in the call manager.
Let me know if you find this elsewhere. Looks like a great application for the tab. Im starting to have device overload!

Has anyone been using their AT&T One X with a car that supports text messaging over bluetooth (MAP Profile?)
I'm using it through SYNC in a 2013 Ford Mustang and SYNC shows my name and phone number as the sender for every text message, which makes replying impossible. I'm wondering if this is a problem in the HTC One X that others might have with similar systems?
never have such an advanced system in my car...
However, Since it is a Bluetooth 4.0 enabled phone, it should have the BT Profile you mentioned
Yes, you're right, but instead of behaving as expecting the One X appears to be sending my phone number as the sender of a text instead of the actual sender. So, I don't know who it came from and can't reply.
You should probably contact HTC directly.

I did enough testing to prove that its a bug in SYNC. I got a response from a Ford rep saying that they are aware of the issue. Link: http://forums.themustangsource.com/f726/texting-bug-identified-sync-v4-1-3-a-511367/#post6403640
So at this point I'm just waiting for a SYNC update >4.1.3.
I have a 2013 Honda Accord which has an infotainment system that supports MAP. My phone asks if it wants to give it access, I said yes to all double checked in the settings that all are checked but it still doesn't do anything when someone texts me. It is supposed to Auto Read them and I made sure that setting is on on my car as well. This system should be the same as some Acuras as well.
Some additional info: When I choose select account it says this phone doesn't support this feature.
Same problem here with an aftermarket BT deck.
Has anyone got MAP to work with anything?
Works fine with 2012 BMW
MAP is flawless on my 2012 BMW iDrive system.

Did you do anything special? Or does it just work after connecting it to Bluetooth. I fear this is a Honda issue but that doesn't make much sense since it does support some Android phones that probably had MAP before and the iPhone.
I received a similar prompt asking about the car accessing my calls and another about messages. Accepted both and it just works.
MAP was added to CM 10.2 awhile ago, and it worked the same on my LG Optimus G (basically a Nexus 4).

Doesn't seem to work on my e90 my10 Idrive. It used to work with sense ROM but not with cm 10.2 on my HTC one x

Anyone have any luck getting this to work? I get an envelope icon on my iMid screen, but an error message stating "the connected phone does not support this feature" when it attempt to read out the message. I have a 2014 Accord EX-L.
I'm in the same boat as OP. I've got a 2013 Honda Civic Si and a Nexus 5, and they don't work well together.
From my research on this, I believe this to be a flaw within the Hangouts app, and not a communication problem between the phone and the head unit. After playing around with it for a while (deleting the pairing profiles, repairing the two devices, clearing the system in my car, etc.), I noticed a few things that lead me to this conclusion. After a few connection attempts, the car only successfully read me one message. Afterwards, the text message functionality on my i-MID was selectable, but clicking the enter button wouldn't do anything. Checking my phone, Hangouts was also frozen. The phone was telling me (via ringtone and notification popups) that I was receiving texts, but I couldn't read them until I disabled BT and force closed Hangouts.
Is this a common problem that we are all experiencing? Can any of you confirm or deny these ideas? Also, which messaging app is everyone using (I don't want recommendations, I want to know if this is Hangouts' fault or not)?
Got a 2014 accord same problem. My fix was stopping hangout.. Works fine now I have a nexus 4 running 4.4.4

I used the stock Sms app that came with the phone. My problem was I saw the text come thru on my accord , but was unable to hear or see the message.... Same problem with my old texts also. I do not use hangout so disabling was not a problem

Ah, well, that's a bit different that the problem I've currently found myself in. For me, the text messaging functionality is permanently disabled in my i-mid display. I'll give getting rid of hangouts a try, though!

I can confirm that my car's Nav system is able to notify me and then read SMS messages from my hangounts app on my N5 without any issues (Toyota). I can also send SMS messags from the car (thru' N5). Works fine, everytime. So, I don't think it is a hangouts issue.

I'm struggling with my Toyota... I have the Non jbl system with Nav. When I click on Bluetooth settings it doesn't give me MAP as an option to check (even tho I granted access to view messages) but I unpaired and repaired a few times and it did give me the map option and it still wouldn't receive my msgs

The message access option should have been there every single time (unlike what you described). I'd suggest deleting the pairing from the phone and the car, and to try again. If the problem persists, try to pair it to another car (Toyota or not) and see if it works with that. If it does, that means it is an issue with your car's system. If it doesn't (and the other car can pair to other phone's with message access properly), it may be an issue with your phone.

Kinda glad to hear that it is working ok with another car - but at the same time, I'm not sure how helpful the dealership will be (assuming the problem d1oesn't get resolved by re-pairing) - automotive firmware is basically written in stone - very hard to get them to fix it. They usually keep blaming the phone. Good luck.

I assume you told them that it works with the Avalon - and they stuck with "it is your phone"... UGH! Funny how it works fine with one car, and not with another (even though both cars are made by same manufacturer). Yes, it must be using a different BT stack/hardware/software, but why not use the same one across the board? sheeeeeeeesh

Do you happen to be using two factor account authentication?
Tried clearing the app, reloading it, deactivating and re activating the phone\account via google voices web settings.
I am using two factor authentication as per a month ago. but if i recall correctly my google voice was still working with that enabled on my moto x before i got the nexus 5. I could be mistaken though. Anyone?
Mine originally was acting kind of funny upon first install - I uninstalled and re-installed it was fine.

If you're using a prepaid plan, I wonder if this is what you're running into:
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/bPJ0u3fJiFo
Look about half-way down the page, it seems that some have needed to have T-Mobile disable their own voicemail in order to get GVoice to work. Maybe this is the answer, maybe not, but I saw it and thought it might help. If you got your Nexus through T-Mobile/postpaid, may not be the answer.
I seem to of found the problem. I was testing calls from my work phone, and they were all getting directed into the Spam folder. You cannot view the spam folder on the android app, however once i moved the calls\voicemails from the spam folder via the web interface, they all came flooding into my phone.

I was noticed odd issues with Google Voice also. When I make a test call to my phone from my wife's phone and it actually calls me twice. Maybe someone else can help me confirm.. Lucky!
On my stock Galaxy S4 i9505 it never worked.
And if you read the comments on the Google Play you'll find tons of people with the same problem like the OP.
My answer button didn't work either, so I uninstalled the stock call handling app. I then installed call handling pro, it sucked Cuz there was too much lag between someone calling and it showing up on the watch, but the answer button worked. I uninstalled call handling pro, and reinstalled the stock call handling app, and like magic there is an answer button now and it works.

True, the lag appeared in the very latest versions, as now the extension wants to load all the contacts along with their photo, and it takes a long time.
Older version without this feature were enough fast (so I never updated and still use one of them!)
Could work on Samsung Note 3?
Fix for the call handling extension for non-Sonys, allows answering of calls:
