So, I just traded my Fascinate for the Droid X and it's great! The one thing I would say I miss the most is the email app that I was using from the Galaxy Tab. It looked great and when you turned the phone to landscape it had the two pane email list on the left and preview on the right.
I know that it couldn't have been too hard to port from the Galaxy Tab to the Fascinate, but doing so with the DX is probably a different story. I tried putting the Tabs email apk in system/apps using Root Explorer, but that did nothing and that is about the extent of my dev skills. So I was hoping someone may want to give this a shot. The apk is attached below. Thanks and good luck!
I haven't tried it...but did you change the permissions of the apk to mimic the others in that system/apps?
It should look like
XX
X
X
I did, that is usually the first thing i try. After i replaced the DX email apk with the Tabs email apk and then changed the permissions, the email app was no longer in my app drawer.
Did you reboot your phone after you changed permissions?
I did reboot after changing permissions.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was away to get the Droid X's music.apk working on other phones.
The reason I ask is because it has visualizations and seems to be the only player out that does this.
I did try to install the music.apk from a Droid X dump but it forced closed. I guess because i didn't have the libraries it calls too. Is it possible to do this in anyone opinion?
I have a Droid G2 with CyangenMod.
I would even pay if someone found out away to do this.
I noticed there is a Visualization.apk in the system/app folder on the droid X, Also there is a folder in the syste/ect called motorola that is called visualization in this folder there is a presets folder with a whole bunch of .milk files! does this mean if you have a droid X you can user any milk drop visualization you want?! I put that in my system/ect. I tried to run my music.apk it ran but when i doubled click the album no visualization.... =( still working on it. I think i need to have the actual music.apk from droid X but it forces close when i tried to install it after selecting song. I also copied libvisualization_jni.so to my lib folder.
Well I got mostly everything installed I needed and the player does come up and will start playing music for a second but when it trys to go to the screen with the album on it it force closes. I can also go to menu and there is a visuals option if i click it it force closes. I feel like i am so close but so far lol. I really wish i knew what .so files it calls on.
I don't know if this could help you or not but I came across this on another thread.

Thanks and sorry about the late post I did try pushing the music player files to my phone but still no good we need to find someone who is intrested in editing the apk and making the changes so it works for all phones.
I recently switched from the Samsung Fascinate to the Droid X and while using the Fascinate I installed the Galaxy Tabs email and fell in love with it. So when I got the DX one of the first things I did was try and install the email app, but it would just FC, I changed the permissions, rebooted, pretty much did everything I could think of.
My question is, does anyone want to give porting the Galaxy Tabs email app to the DX, or is are there any other email apps that have that same kind of feel, where when you turn the phone to landscape it has the emails on the left side and the preview on the right.
I managed to delete the original gallery on my KF while trying to delete something else. Should this be the the 3d gallery apk? Well I couldn't seem to find it on line so I pulled the one off my Samsung Droid Charge and attempted to push it to system\app with Root Explorer but when I attempt to install it just says that it did not install. Any ideas? Wrong apk or permissions? Need a quick class on what I am doing wrong, did not see it posted elsewhere. I am rooted and like to use it to put some family pics on the ADW home screen.
Thanks!
Ok, got the right apk from krelvinaz (thanks so much). Using Root Explorer I clicked install and it installed in data\app. Didn't do anything to permissions. So now while rooted OR unrooted, I try to use the picture frame widget. If picking the picture from Gallery it lets me resize, hit save and it just closes without adding anything to the screen. If I hit the widget and use QuickPic for the picture selection, it creates the frame on the screen but it is black with nothing in it.
Any ideas? Do I need to change permissions or load the apks in a different folder? This all worked fine before I screwed up and deleted gallery. Worked when it was rooted too.
Bump.
Anyone? Tried several different apps. The ones that work either just put up a black box or put up the pic but it doesn't stay and reverts to the black box. Worked before so something is missing since I deleted the gallery the first time.
I have a custom Rom installed (NexusMod 2.0) and I cant seem to get the original stock Email Widget restored. I took a full Titanium backup and I see the Email 1.0 widget (which is striked out in Titanium backup) but when I try to restore it, it just sits there trying for a long time, never stops, even waited 10mins.
I found a few folks online that have posted the EmailWidget.apk (about 870k in size) but when I try to install it, it just tells me "Application not installed" Wondering if its trying to tie itself to the stock email client which maybe the NexusMod rom has a slightly different version or type of it? Not sure....
Id really like to get that one back since its about half the screen size widget and shows the last 3-4 emails when using the Native client (which I need to for my work exchange email).
Thanks

The problem is if that apk is odex and your custom rom is deodex. That's why it wont work. I don't know how to fix it that's beyond my skill level. I just figured out the problem for myself with some research. You can however try the new silver rom it has the email widget cuz it stock rooted rom odex. To get a better understanding of deodex and odex give it a Google.

Your right, i completely forgot about that. I will look into what it takes to say deodex just the email widget, or maybe look at other custom roms which are deodexed and still have the widget and see if I can port it into this one.
Yea I like that widget also and had the Same problem then I found the answer but go launcher has an email widget now that you can resize to fit your need but not sure if that will fit your needs but give it a check.

I just tried this paid one off the market and that didn't work. Seems like my IT blocks access to email with 3rd party apps. It just popped up and error message. So others probably will have that issue.
Damn, now I have to find a way to get the stock one working by deodexing it and see if that does it.
I think I found a rom with that apk deoxed,I don't know how to post an apk here but I found it in red sonja rom let me know if I can help.

I just got the phone 2 days ago and have been browsing around for answers and come up with very little....
First off, if I were to do the root, unlock bootloader, etc., am I still only limited to ROMs specificially for the AT&T phone or can I use ARHD for example from the other forum?
Second, is there any way to use the real ICS keyboard instead of HTC's or one off the market? I had a galaxy nexus and really like that one. I am currently using a copy from a while ago from the market and its not as good.
Third, I like the revamped messaging app, but doesn't have the emojin support. Was wondering if there was anything on the market besides GOSMS or Handcent, etc. that could allow that with the stock messaging app.
Appreciate your time and thanks in advance

I also came from a gnex, and love the stock ICS keyboard. The easiest way to safely get it for free is to download one of the latest CM9 nightlies from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=nightly
Then open the zip, go to system/app, and copy LatinIME.apk out. Put it on your one x and install it. You'll then have to go into settings->language/keyboard, and enable the keyboard.
After that, go to any text field on your phone (like your browser's URL bar), make the HTC keyboard pop up, then drag down your notification bar and you'll see the switch keyboard notification.
No root required, nice and safe.
That is an awesome trick lol...Do you have any other apk suggestions I can use from the CM build?
It works perfectly! Thanks again

I haven't felt the need for anything else from my gnex, so I didn't attempt to use any other apks. I know a few people were requesting the stock sms and dialer, but you really need to be careful pulling system/app apks out, since there could be dependencies.

NICE So much better to type on now!
Anyone else for the emojin question? I found the answer to the first one.
Thanks
