I had no problems using my HD2's soft keyboard for the first few months, but a couple of weeks ago it started giving me problems. Specifically, when I type anything from the numbers/symbols screen, the characters change font, add spaces between and the texting generally misbehaves.
What is worse is that the symbols in question are illegible to the receiver of my SMSs and the Calendar Appointments that sync with Outlook are equally illegible (each character is represented with a "square" symbol. For example, when I send someone an SMS saying "meet me at 9:00", I see "meet me at 9 : 0 0 " and they see "meet me at XXXX".
Worse still, when I try to SMS someone who is not in my phonebook (dialing in their number), the phone cannot read these symbols and gives me an error. This is UNMANAGEABLE. Is this a common bug? What can I do to fix this? Will I have to switch to a non-native keyboard? What if I upgrade to Win 7?
Please advise and HELP! I have attached screenshots for clarity, showing what I write in SMS and what is received on the other end...

Greetings, all;
I am having a problem with my unlocked Treo that is driving me batty. The device "forgets" some of my contacts when I am composing an SMS.
The contacts never actually dissapear from the phonebook, and I can always start an SMS from the Contacts page, but when I start typing a name in the "To' line on the new SMS page, some names are just not there anymore.
It's never the same name, and doing a soft reset corrects the problem... for about a day.
Any ideas what might be happening here? Thanks for the advise!

I would suggest that you backup your contacts using some free program such as TCB (total contacts backup) or PPC Contacts backup. Just back them up into a file in a folder in the phone or storage card. Then go back to the program and try to restore the contacts and choose the option of overwriting the existing contacts.
Also if you are referring to the drop down list when you choose list of contacts. Keep in mind that the list is only for people you have texted before, this not a list of contacts reflecting the phone book
yes.
i also have this same problem.
it seems like there are limited contact that showed in messaging box.
For example,
i have 20 contacts whose name is started from letters : "Sa"
but when i type "Sa" in the destination number on messaging box,
it is limited only to 10 contacts which is started from letters "Sa".
So the next 10 contacts is not showed up.
is there any possibility to tweak on registry to expand this limit ?
Pls help...
thanks a lot !

i had the same issue as well.....one contact wasn't showing up.
2 things. make sure that that contact's number has been saved as his/her mobile number, not home or anything.
secondly, just restart or something. the problem went away for me later.
Actually, the missing contacts issue happens in many application. And the search results depends randomly.
For example, I got 2 "Sherry" in my contacts from OutLook in my PC. And pretty aware that I keep the phone number in the right field.
Type Sherry in Today, I got 2 Sherry listed.
Type Sherry in Contacts, I got nothing.
Thpe Sherry in SpeedDial Setting(Link to Contacts), I got nothing.
Type Sherry in To field in New Message, I got 2 again!?!?
Very unpredictable!!! And different name will yield very different results.
Customer Rep from Palm suggest me to do a Hard Reset. But I don't think it will help, however I'll try it.
Hoping to get the solution here!!! Thanks in advance.
The wired search result is gone after I upgrade my Treo750 from WM6 to WM6.1 with a Special Cooked ROM(Build 19199).
After the upgrade, my data had been synced from OutLook again. I'm not sure whether ROM upgrade or data sync did resolve the problem.
Anyway, I'm happ again with my Treo750 again!!

Wired things again................
Treo 750 will freeze (no input from touch panel nor keyboard) when I entered the edit screen of the contact person which founded in Lookup field in "Today".
But editing the contact person in the "Contacts" application will not freeze.
The edit screens in the above cases are pretty the same except the upper left corner shows "Start" and "Contacts" separately.
Any help??? Thanks in advance.
Hello, I need some help with my tilt. Im running WM6.1. I have some problems with my texting:
When I type a message, it doesnt automatically capitalize things like "I" and it doesn't put in apostrophes when needed
I set it to organize my text messages by "Recieved", but it changes the text from the time it got it to the day it got it, and puts the earlier date on the bottom
I also want to remove the "Zoomboard" option that's in the menu for choosing a text input mode; it's still there after I uninstalled it.
These problems began after I uninstalled vito zoomboard and vito SMS-Chat, I dont know what to do to fix it
Another problem I have is that when I try to type out a person's name when choosing who to send a text to, it doesn't automatically show their name and number like this:
Random Person <number in here>
Again, after I uninstalled vito zoomboard and vito SMS-Chat, these problems arose.
Is there a registry edit or something to fix this? Please help!
The Messaging software on the Jack drives me crazy. I text a lot, and I have to do something about this.
1) The default input method when selecting a new recepient is 123, and the Epix had the same setup.. whereas the BJII would default to abc. I liked the abc default a lot better because I could just start typing the name of the recepient. However, both of them would at least auto complete or auto recognize the recepient when I started typing the first few letters of their name. The Jack does not. This is a major pain for me, as I certainly do not input recepients by number (who does?!) and do not like to go through the extra menus to select a recepient.
2) When composing a new message, the Jack brings up the Sending Message screen that would only come up when sending a Multimedia Message on the BJII and Epix, and also brings up that annoying Message Sent popup window. The method for disabling this popup on the BJII does not work on the Jack. Also, the first message sent to the recepient does not show up in my Inbox as part of the conversation, but after I get a response the "conversation" begins. The overall composition process is just a huge pain, I don't see why that Sending and Message Sent screen is necessary at all?!
What I would really like is to replace the Messaging software of the Jack with that of the BJII (original software, NOT WM 6.1 software). The Jack comes with Samsung MMS Version 1.0.0 Build 36, the BJII came with Samsung MMS Version 1.0.0 Build 194. The original software was FAR superior to all of the following ones. The software on the 6.1 upgrade for the BJII was pretty much the same as what came on the Epix, and the one on the Jack is even worse in my opinion..
Is it possible to get the original BJII (or at least BJII WM 6.1) Messaging software installed on the Jack?! What I would really like is to have the default input in the recepient field be abc instead of 123, and for the recepient's name to auto complete or auto recognize without me going into menus to check names or select contacts.
I've tried with "search" but I cannot match the keyword ....
So, there was a time when restoring your contacts from pimbackup was harmful to the sms app, I cannot send text message longer than 160 chars (I can send them, no errors, but they are not received)
Anyone knows how to solve this issue? I've this bug on my HD2 from various roms, so, I think that it's related with the stored contacts
Maybe there's something with the tags that HTC Sense stores in the "notes" tab of each contact, in this case, there is a way to wipe all the notes of each contact automatically?
Oh yes you can!!!
As far as I know, it's nothing to do with you having imported contacts etc. from PIMbackup......it's just the way it goes....
By default, the messaging application is set to "use Unicode when necessary" which results in long messages being broken into several chunks of 160 characters or less. The messages are delivered (eventually) to the recipient, but their order is not guaranteed.
To "fix" the problem, go to the Messaging tab, tap All Messages, then Menu, then Settings, then Options and un-tick the "Use Unicode when necessary" option, tap Done.....and that's it - problem "fixed"!!
Now, when you send a long message, it is sent as a whole message to your network where it is broken up into 160 char chunks before being sent. The recipient, assuming their network supports long SMS messages, receives your message just as you sent it.
Hope that helps,
Mark.
PS. There is some sort of history to this "feature"; back in days of the HTC Hermes (and others), having Unicode switched on meant that you could only send 70 characters even though the messaging app thought you'd used 160 characters. People were sending a 150 char message and getting charged for three messages - two of 70 chars and one of 10 chars....
Thanks man;
My network supports long sms, but I can't seem to be able to send them anyway :/
I'll make another test
Edit: Nope, no luck, they are not received, and the target can receive sms longer than 160chars, for sure
I am SURE that there was a bug with restoring contacts with some sense/manila bug, I've read about it right here, on XDA
Sorry for the double post, but I've foud out that it's an issue with stored contacts;
I've tried to send an sms to myself, and I received it with no problems...
I too am facing the this issue (HTC HD2 TMOUS) with sending sms more than 160 characters. this is not related to stored contacts in my case.
I did a hard reset and tried to send a sms more than 160 characters still facing same issue. I tried with 3 different Network Operators, still the same persists. However I have no problem with sending sms lesser than 160 characters. Anyone found a fix for this ?
P.S.: I know its a old thread, but... no fix yet.
Dear all,
I am having some big trouble with go sms pro private box. I have the paid version. I added from my contacts all the contacts that I want to be private. It happened that when some of those contacts text me the message and notification are correctly private, while for others they are received in the normal folder (and have a standard notification). I double checked and the contact name and number were correctly displayed on the list of private contacts but the text appears in the normal received text message list. Only one slight difference: the number saved in the contact list is always different from the number on the received text underneath the name, and the difference is related to the international american area code. I was not able to figure out exactly which is the problem but basically sometimes I receive messages with the right name but the number (lets say 999-999-9999) shows up as any of these three
999-999-9999
1999-999-9999
+1999-999-9999
So basically if I save my number as 999-999-9999 sometimes I dont get it on the private box and it shows up with the rite name and with 1999-999-9999 or +1999-999-9999. Very wierd. And things got more complicated: I did a trial with my roomie: if I save his number as 999-999-9999 his texts do not go into the private box, and they show up with his name and 1-999-999-9999 underneath it. If I save instead my roommate number in my contacts as +1999-999-9999, in that case his text shows correctly up in the private box but with NO NAME on it!! So I cant do this since I have no clue who is texting me and I have to search everytime who that text refers to. I am driving crazy. Nobody had experience with this?
Thanks
A.
