Ok I'm having a very annoying issue on my Inspire 4G. The phone recognizes my home wifi network and goes in a loop trying to connect and then reconnect. I have several other devices connecting to the wifi flawlessly - (iMac, iPad, Xbox, etc). Does the Inspire just get weak wifi signal strength, or is there something wrong with my phone? I'm considering returning it to get the Atrix. I also know other people have commented saying that they have this issue also. Is there a fix? Thanks

Had this problem. Went into wifi settings and clicked on the access point that it was trying to connect to. It asked me for my credential storage password or something (different than access point password) and after typing that in all has been well ever since.
i got the same problem.. connected to network but it wont let me use internet at all

Check your battery cover and sim card cover. Make sure that they are both installed properly with no gaps.
If you downgraded you phone using attn1 guide thats well known problem. I had same problem i flashed rom coredroid 6.8 and all is fine now.

I have had lot of issues with wifi connectivity on my Infuse. The connection to the wifi networks takes a long time and it keeps scanning. After it connects, if the phone is idle for 2 minutes, the connectivity goes off. The signal on the screen shows that wifi is connected but the webpage never loads. I need to toggle wifi to get it working.
I have tried a lot of things to get this issue fixed. I have set the wifi sleep policy to never. I tried using static IP. I installed a few apps from market that try to reconnect when wifi goes off. But none of these worked. I read that you can manually enter the MAC address of your device on ur router to get this issue resolved. But sadly, I stay at a university dorm and I have no control over the router settings. I can't play around with it. I also read that the problem may be due to hidden SSID and tried an app to get a work around but in vain. I'm totally clueless since this issue is seen only in my university wifi network but nowhere else.
It'd be very helpful if the seniors here could guide me into getting my beautiful Infuse connect seamlessly with my wifi network. I love my phone but I'm really sad that it has wifi issues which drive me crazy sometimes...
Thanks in advance.
PS - I had posted the same query in LinuxBozo's Hellraiser FAQ thread but I reposted here since I think more people would read it. I hope the admins don't mind.

did you download that app
typically when you go into a rom with issues...ie you were having the issue stock..it isn't the rom
I have a feeling it is a weak signal from the university's wifi and combined with weak reception from the infuse
out of all of my devices the infuse has the weakest reception

Which app are you talking about?
It's not the weak signal from the university. The routers are installed inside our rooms and the signal strength is either good/excellent. If I come to the hall, the signal strength goes down but at least inside the rooms it's good. But even then, I have this issue. It connects initially but suddenly it disconnects and I cant open a page. But the signal shows it's still connected. It's kinda weird. And I'm surprised no one else has faced this issue. 2 of us have the same phone here and both of us have the same issue.

it is either the network or it is your phones
Sounds like a network issue to me, or possibly a side effect of the Android DHCP lease issue.
http://www.net.princeton.edu/android/android-stops-renewing-lease-keeps-using-IP-address-11236.html
More likely to occur with a large multi-access-point university network.
I don't know if Google has fixed the above issue yet.
Okay I posted a while back about this. For the past 2 weeks my wifi will connect and about 5 mins later won't load anything, but says I'm still connected. I've unplugged my router ( At&T router) and plugged it back in, no difference. I had att replace the router today and still having the same problem. I have it on wpa. I need to fix this, I run everything through my phone and this is really affecting my day to day. Any advice?
Infuse running infused v2.0.2.
If you're still using the stock ROM like I am, I'm finding the WiFi reception on my Infuse to be the worst I've ever experienced on any phone I've ever had. Lets hope the Gingerbread update fixes it.

Download wifi analyzer from the market and look see if there are several wifi networks on the same channel as your wifi. If so, change the channel on your router and see if that helps.
Also, what's the model on your router?
Even I've faced this issue ever since I got the phone but still there's no fix.
The problem is with a particular make of the router. I read online about it and there are more than 2 problems here.
1. If the router is a multiprotocol - bgn router, it might be a problem if the router is running in mixed mode. Our phone supports only b and g. In any case, if u enter the MAC address of ur phone into ur router, it might solve the problem.
2. If the router is not broadcasting the SSID i.e in hidden SSID mode, there might be wifi issues. Change the settings to remove the hidden SSID.
3. There is a PSP mode (Power save polling) mode in the hardware which will put the wifi to sleep if the phone goes to sleep (It is different than the wifi sleep policy) If the phone goes to this mode, some routers wont be able to send packets to the phone and this causes wifi to get disconnected.
If you try to connect to a public wifi, u should be able to connect. I guess the problem is only in ur home. I have the same problem but sadly i cant change any router settings since I stay in a university dorm...
Hope this helps!

Wanted to say I have a Verizon Actionteck router with FIOS and I am having the same issue with my Samsung Infuse 4G, only I am not using WPA I am using WPA2. I have to restart my device and then the device will work. Currently with WPA2 and I hide the SID and have the setting "Connect even when not broadcasting" enabled.
Thoughts ? I still have the 2.2 OS yes rooted.
I have a Wifi Only Xoom and for the most part, it works great. Especially with the new ICS update. However, when i come into work, i am unable to get more than 400 kb/s on download speeds. If i turn my data off and my wifi on using my Droid Bionic, i can meet or beat 15 mb/s down so i know its not the work network. This started happening before the OTA ICS update but even with the update, it still happens. Since the update, i have done a factory reset of my device but still cannot get anything for download speeds. Iv talked with our network team at work and they said that they dont throttle anything on the particular wifi network im connected to so that isnt it either..
almost 100 views and no responses, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Sorry for the non-answer, but if you're going to complain about people viewing and not replying, then maybe should have used a better title for your topic other than "Xoom Network Issue."

what do you get at home or somewhere else?
you try forgetting the network?
turn off bluetooth and try once
You're on a shared network at work, there are multiple factors that would limit your speed.
Number of users on that access point / WLAN
Bandwidth limitations for WLAN users
Proximity to AP
Other WLANs broadcasting on the same frequency
And more...
My first suggestion would be to sniff the air with Wifi Analyzer by Farproc and see if you're connected to the best AP on the work network.
Still no luck..
After reading some replies, here are my troubleshooting notes in response to your ideas (sorry for the novel):
I have completely reset it to factory defaults so iv actually done more than forgetting the network. Bluetooth has been off since it was wiped.
We have so many APs around the building that i could throw a rock and hit one no matter where im standing in the building and signal has never been an issue. I did get Wifi Analyzer but none that it picked up were that bad in signal. On the same note, i walked around the building doing random tests in several locations, none yielded any better speeds. One more reason that i dont believe this is the issue is that when i do theses tests, download speeds stink, but upload does very well. So that tells me that signal strength is a non-issue and as stated earlier, there are no limitations on this WLAN.
I can test other devices side by side at the same time and they test great while my xoom falls on its face. so I am absolutely positive that the problem doesn't lie with the work network. every other tablet, smartphone, laptop user can get excellent speeds (in the same location as my xoom), except my Xoom.
At this point i am at a loss.. any additional help is greatly appreciated!
YES! I'm not crazy. I bet you have cisco access points.
I posted about this on another thread. It appears that ICS and that particular access point has a major bug. I have one at home. I posted on motorola here

I would like to know if there is any way I can have my WiFi internet on my MT4GS,without my Sim card in the phone .Probably just surfing the net or using "whats app". I have tried and my cell doesn't connect to the WiFi router at all.Can someone advise on settling this matter ? My phone is unlocked and rooted.I haven't taken the update,so I'm still on the stock ROM.
I used my old windows touch pro 1 cell and it connects to the WiFi router without Sim card.So what can I do to get the WiFi internet on my MT4GS?
You should just have it.
I have two of these devices - one on T-Mobile, the other bought aftermarket out of plan. No sim card, yet I connect to wifi everywhere, even use it as a wifi bridge to my router for a desktop in my home.
Just go into settings, wireless settings, then turn on wifi and tap 'wifi settings' underneath it. You should see your network in the list, just tap it and enter a password if necessary.
Done.
This doesn't work for you?
Sim card has nothing to do with wifi, only cellular.
Maybe the fact that your phone is rooted. But I don't know my rooted cliq is rooted an connects to WiFi fine...

Could be, my buddy has a stock mytouch and he can't get on wifi without a sim either..

I don't think so - I just got it back from HTC and it's not rooted yet, still stock the same way I shipped it out to them. Gets on wifi fine with no sim card.
It does have an S-OFF bootloader, but I don't see how that would matter.
I do find this curious.
What exactly happens when you try to connect to a wifi network?
Does it even see the wifi networks?
Where does the ability to connect fail?
You should be able to connect. It'll have that option at the HTC setup wizard.

Says scanning ,then tries to acquire ip address then it disconnects and starts all over with the same result.Secondly I remembered the last two programs that were causing me problems in installing and uninstalling were Bloater and Busybox ,before my WiFi went haywire.I gave up trying and hence I was preparing to send my cell back to HTC, since it was still within the warranty period.I unrootted my cell and now my WiFi works again. So i really can't say exactly what caused this malfunction as yet .Thank you guys, for such quick responses. This really makes me feel proud to be part of an outstanding group of people here, and as whole, part of xda-developers.I thank you all for your help an assistance.Hopefully this information might help someone else someday.
Maybe it's your router

No my girlfriend, has the same phone with me and it connected .Had tried another router and it still didn't connect.
I do it all th time with several brands of phones. I have had problems the constanly connecting and reconnecting when there are too many devices around at the same time.
Sometimes it is the router and internet going through "spells".

Yes, "innerwebs" with wifi works without a sim card.
My g2 AND my other 4g slide both connect to my router without a sim in them.
But they are rooted with different roms so......
When I leave a wifi network (physically), instead of the phone recognizing that it's no longer got a wifi connection and flipping to LTE, it thinks it's still on a wifi network.
The only way for me to get my connection back is to temporarily toggle wifi off. Both Wifi and LTE seem to work fine otherwise.
Anyone else experience this?
Very common bug. Hoping an ota comes out soon.
