Anybody move from iPhone 4 to inspire?

So I've had my iPhone 4 since release and I've been happy with it but itching for AT&T to get a decent android phone for me to try. I'm eligible for partial upgrade and because I'm on premiere I get an additional 10% off; which the Corp store agreed to honor; so total price was $269. Luckily they were busy when I got there and I had some time to play with it. Very solid phone. But I've been debating the whole front facing camera thing. I Skype regularly with my parents who are overseas and I FaceTime with my wife (more once our baby is born in April. SO the lack of a front facing camera was big. I've also heard horror stories of android and battery life; so when I found it it was only 1250mah I couldn't believe it. And after playing around with it I realized that the browser is not on the same level as the iphones. I watch a lot of videos on CNN and when I tried it using the flash Player on android it took a long time. On the iPhone the HTML 5 page pulls up and videos are near instantaneous. The browser just seemed a lot more fluid. I dunno I haven't made a final decision but wanted to see somebody doses perspective who went from iphone4 to inspire

I sold my iPhone for $ 500 and never looked back. I picked up the inspire this morning and after an hour of frustrating debacle with the radio Shack guy I got to playing with it.
I had owned an evo before but this blows it out of the water. If you can get by the fact that it doesn't have a front facing camera you will be pleased. The phone is super fast and the display is beautiful. I'm working on my first charge and the battery is lasting. I do not miss my iPhone at all.

Cool. Let me know In a few days after you've been using it for a while. The other very annoying thing (and this is the iPhones fault) is that the damn iPhone uses a micro sim. So i can't just switch back and forth between the two. I'll probably have to pick up a micro sim adapter that would allow it to be used sit regular sim slots

I sold my iphone and I am very happy with my phone. So nice not needing itunes and being able to use the storage in my phone. Its also nice being able to add ringtones and sounds so easily. IMHO the inspire screen is just as good.

@OP: That's what I hear too, also have seen, that the experience on iOS is just a little smoother than the Android experience, and I can understand where they are coming from.

I sold my i4 last night and bought my inspire today. My advice to you is get an ipod touch 4gen for your face time. That us my plan as I live apple for their audio. If Android made a device similar to the touch than I would still have my iPhone but that's not the case. Plus this phone is solid and not cheap like others. Doesn't feel like I've skipped a beat. Good luck. Also my speck case makes a difference because that's why I loved iPhone were the accessories.

I just got rid of my iP4 for the Inspire and I'm not gonna miss it. I've had a ton of phones in the last year and this might be my favorite. The speaker is a little weak, but I'm used to that from HTC. Screen is brilliant and while it may not be the retina display I prefer the larger size.
I haven't had a chance to evaluate battery life yet of course, but I pretty much know what I'm getting there.

I charged mine fully and have been playing with it for a while now. The battery has gone down only a tad - in no way can you literally 'watch the battery drain'. I think this will only improve with root. And the screen seriously is just as impressive as the retina display. It's really tough to see pixels on this thing - everything is bright, sharp and clear.

this will be my situation. i am brand new to this forum, so forgive me lol.
My first smartphone was the G1, loved it but decided to switch to iPhone 3g.
Sold that to by Nexus One. Loved it as well, but sold it to get the i4.
Now, i'm selling my i4 to get the inspire. So it's not my first Android, but I've become sorely accustomed to the "stupid" nature of iOS. Returning to android will take some getting used to.

I am trying this android thing out. Came from iphone 4 but still debating. I may return it because of battery issues and also music management sucks. Cant manage playlists. Also, bluetooth control does not work on the included player.

I won't be using this for music except for slacker and pandora, and will stick my iphone4 in the glovebox and listen to the ipod while in the car. Have a small ipod if I ever need to take one somewhere.

The only difference is that you can see the touchscreen grid on the inspire, but not on the iphone.

Not exactly sure what you are referring to regarding managing playlists but I use isyncr and it works perfectly for me. With the wifi addon you can sync them over your home network as well.

The main problem so far is battery life and bluetooth music controls. It will not let me pause, change tracks, etc. Any work around for this? I am a bit new to android and do like the inspire.

I use MixZing Basic for music, works perfectly with playlist.
I like this phone a lot. The only concern I have is call freezing. I had a G1 before, it freezes a lot when answering a call. It forced me to switch to IPhone 4. I hope this one doesn't have the freezing issue so I can sell my IPhone 4 on ebay, haha

Thats good; keep in mind though that you're using a new phone and the battery life will get worse the more apps you download, the more widgets you have, and as you add more screens and files to the phone.
You should definitely take advantage of rooting wnd trying to find a ROM that has undervolting and over/under clocking to get the most out of the battery.

I have used my stereo Bluetooth headset and I can pause and skip tracks. I'm using stock player.

SO I played with the HTC Arrive today

Training device at the story, had my share of time with it today, checked it all out.
Pretty nice keyboard and tilt mechanism, hardware felt awesome in the hand. Software is definitely behind though, multitasking is a no go, software really isnt there for landscape yet which is a bummer with the keyboard.
Netflix worked great however.
Just posting in case anyone here had planned to switch from the epic, I can answer any questions about it too.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's very fast, everything loads really quickly.
Sometimes the transitions get annoying when you're just trying to be done with something..it's pretty though.
The worst culprit is the weather in the HTC hub, switching between cities does this whole cloud moving crazy popup thing, it looks pretty cool but takes about 5 seconds and could be very annoying if you're just trying to check the weather in a hurry.
Apps load really quickly, Netflix took about a minute to load up the app and get into a movie on 3g, quality seemed pretty good.
Battery life seemed good, although I had no percentages to work with, it didn't seem to drain that bad.
One thing I noticed though: In the marketplace, larger apps like 3d games can't be downloaded over 3g, it says "Wifi or PC Connection Required"

Really looking to try a WP7 phone, so thanks for this! Did you get a chance to test out the camera, and was the screen any good?

The camera I only took one picture, it seemed pretty clear! I'll try it more tomorrow and let you know.
The screen and type were very crystal clear, it's SLCD and looks absolutely fantastic, not QUITE the Epic but very good.

Also did you have a problem with the screen being 3.6" instead of 4"

I'm swapping out my HTC Hero for the HTC Arrive on the 20th. Can't wait.

that looks sexy but um yeah.... not into that whole hinge tilt stuff and windows phone 7 is just not hooking me.

I actually really like the tilt feature. It works like a kickstand for the screen so you can use your phone as a desk clock better or watch movies with no hands. I wish there was a tilting android phone.

Reminds me of the TP2 keyboard/tilt. That was the best, most responsive keyboard on a phone I've had.
I'd gladly trade my Epic keyboard for an HTC one... you know if it had a 4" SAMOLED screen...

I love the look of this phone it's just like a perfect hardware specs tp2 and that tilt screen is the one and only thing I miss from my tp2, but WP7 can suck it!! If only HTC released this the time the epic was out and had android on it I would of got this!!! I love the speaker on it too, really sexy phone!!

Probably, the question is why bother? It's last years weakest hardware...even after a port the Shift would still kill it performance wise, and don't even try to compare it with the Epic.

Android Trolls have no reason to post. If you are not here with interest in WP7 or the Arrive, then why are you here except to voice your pointless opinion?
Anyway. I also got my hands on an Arrive for a good bit. One thing about the slider, make sure you don't judge it until you remove the clear plastic protector on the back of the screen part of the slider (the back of the screen with the keyboard out). Until that is removed the slider will feel very wobbly, stiff, or overall crappy. Same thing was the case for our Touch Pro 2's.
The overall feel of the phone is really solid and well made, like the TP2 it feels solid but with the metal back and an actual glass screen it feel even higher quality. (Plus I love the way the screen angles off into the 2 grill parts on the top and bottom.)
The OS performed just as expected with performance never showing any sort of hiccup or slowdown. 3G Speed in the area was a bit poor due to it being a highly populated area that Sprint throttles. (Not a problem where I live). It was not a problem for normal use and web browsing but it did take a hit on Netflix playback, downgrading the quality to extremely low but still viewable quality I suppose.
As mentioned earlier/elsewhere, the one thing that is bumming me is the 3G download limit on large apps. I know it is the norm for most of todays phones but with an Unlimited plan, limiting my download size to 20MB is a real bummer. I hope there may be a way around this in due time. Sucks that they expect you to pay for another service while paying for the same type of service? WTF!?
I did not test this part of the phone out though since I did not want to set it up under my live account.
Other parts of mention was the seamless use of Bing search for various things. Unlike on the TP2 where you click on bing, wait a minute, have to quit back out because you forgot to run quick GPS to keep the sat info updated and of course it never automatically updates on its own, back into Bing and waiting another minute, type in what you want to search for (or click on the appropriate button), it searches and gets you what you may want, you click on it, wait a bit to get options, then finally to what you want. If using the Voice Guidance you have to hope it doesn't crash or lock up partway into your trek.
With WP7 it seriously was click button, 3 sec later your there, type or say what you want, it searches for another 2-3 sec, bamn various things related to your search and picking one only takes another 2-3 seconds. Fast, easy, works.
Sure Voice Guidance isn't in Bing for WP7 yet, but it is coming and till then Sprint gets their own Voice Guidance GPS that actually works ok as well.
There is only 1 Problem (Seams to be lightly known) with the phone. Wifi. Similar to the Video Demo I saw of a GSM UK 7 Pro, the wifi would get stuck trying to connect to a network and eventually give up. In the video he mentioned a hard reset fixed this but being as it was not my phone I did not test this. This looks to be a simple HTC bug and I would guess it would be fixed in a side update separate from other updates soon. Still, a bummer seeing how the phone isn't out yet and it's GSM brother has the same issue.
Either way I pre-ordered my phone and plan to enjoy it. The only thing is my upgrade isn't due till June 14th and well, that is a long way away. So I may buy the phone outright and just learn everything I can for a month. It is not that I cannot afford it, I just don't feel like paying $450 for any phone.
$35 to rent the phone for a month isn't a bad deal though. Did this with the HTC EVO. 4G was Awesome, but the Android os, while powerful, just didn't feel finished/polished similar to WM6.5 Roms.
Sure WP7 does lack a few features we have all known and loved on WM6.X and Android, but for what I use the phone for most, paired with the fact that I am getting sick of the phone having weird glitches, lockups, temporary hangs, slowdowns, and overall things either not working or working weirdly, (also on Android for this), WP7 looks for fix that for me. A phone that does all of the features it offers now and does them well. I used to be a huge tweaker for these devices, but after a while, the time it takes to make the phone work 100% takes way too long these days and especially on the old 500mhz chip, it is just not worth the fuss anymore. I have an HD2 to tinker with and use for certain Apps, and a Dell Axim X50v for my other WM entertainment needs.

MyTouch 4G Slide

Anyone considering this phone? The Nexus S is my first Android phone which I purchased in December of 2010 and to be honest its been average. Browser and keyboard lag is tough to deal with. When the phone works it's great though.
My biggest issue is typing. Coming from blackberry I just can't type efficiently on this thing and I think the Qwerty on the my touch 4g slide might help. Just wanted some opinions from people who have used multiple android devices. Thanks.

its going to be a very nice phone. I think if you are a keyboard type person there wont be a better option. Itll run like a beast too.

as well Ill be getting this phone for my GF, she refuses to not have a keyboard. if I was to go back to t-mobile myself Id be gettign this phone as well

I am on T-Mobile and have very good service and want the slide but due to.the att I am not getting it my dad is.letting.me switch to.Sprint,as soon as the new.nexus comes.out I'm switching

Only bad thing about getting the mytouch 4g sslide is that it won't get the newest updates like nexus line...I agree tthough about android keyboard ... nexus s was my first android phone and only thing I don't like is the browser and keyboard ..I came from an iPhone so I was used to on-screen keyboard

More to the point: Is this a retail phone, just like everyone gets? Does S-OFF mean that we'll be able to root and flash it at launch? I keep trying to find confirmation that the bootloader will be unlocked (or not) at launch, but this is the closest I've found, so far. Is there any official word from HTC or T-Mobile somewhere?

I've had the 3g sllide for some time now and i like it it's a decent phone but still, newer, faster, more hardware cap. is simply better... point blank period. I'm excited for the upgrade since i really dont want to leave the mytouch family and it's a must that i have keyboard. But the specs are looking good!, and since the glacier has achieved S-off i fairly certain that this will achieve perma-root about 3 hrs after official release (chuckles to self) if not sooner. I'm excited for what this forum will produce along with my very own venture into ginger bread app development

This phone looks pretty sweet. I had the MyTouch 3G Slide and the MyTouch 4G. Both were great phones. This phone is pretty much a MyTouch 4G with the internal components of a Sensation and the keyboard of a 3G Slide. I prefer the screen and sleekness of the Sensation but if you need a keyboard I'd be all over it.
I suspect this phone will be S-OFFed once AlphaRev finishes the Sensation/Evo3D tool. Otherwise you're waiting till at least September for the official unlock.

It's shipped S-ON sadly , that mean's we can't flash custom roms correct ?

I just received my Khaki today. I pre-ordered on the 19th.
Pretty amazing device in my book. It isn't perfect but, coming from a 3G Slide it's a monster of a phone.
The Good:
Far and away better keyboard. It has a chiclet like feel to it and is much easier and faster to type on than the 3G Slide with plenty of feedback.
The screen is very pretty, easy to read, and I have no problem with the slightly lower resolution as it does not hinder the phone in any way. Very easy to type on the screen too. I was pretty taken back at how incredibly accurate the sensitivity was compared to the 3GS
Nice camera, it isn't an N8 nor will it replace my T3i but, it does offer partial manual controls and you can adjust the exposure +-2 stops for camera and video. Hopefully an update or hack will let you control shutter speed in the future. FYI, ISO is from 100 to 800. Images look a little grainy to me but, I'm coming from a T3i for comparison which isn't very fair.
FM radio is a nice touch and it works just fine.
Call/Voice quality is very good. It sounds better than the 3GS as a whole. It is louder and clearer with less echo and background noise. It does sound a little harsh at high volume but, still better than the 3GS. Let's just say it isn't a Glimmer but, that phone sounds better than any land-line I've heard so again not a fair comparison. However, I was complimented on how much clearer my voice was on the other end of the line and I could hear the other person a lot better than before.
Reception seems/felt a little better than the 3G Slide. Not a great deal better but, I was getting 2 bars of 3G (which oddly shows up as 4G) in a location where I normally get 1 bar. Also, I didn't have to manually set the phone to WCDMA for it to pick it up.
HTC Flashlight app is in here and it uses both LED's
Wifi Hotspot widget is in here too.
Trackpad button thing is so much nicer than the 3GS and it has this neat illumination thing that goes on when it's charging. It isn't bright though, you almost need to be at an angle to see it, it's very subtle but the coolest thing ever.
genius button still says "please wait" but, it's infinitely faster than the 3GS. LOL. if it wasn't I'd probably rip someones head off.
Grip of the phone is excellent, atleast with the Khaki. It feels sooooo good in your hand and isn't going to slip and fall near as many times as the 3GS or many other phones I've owned before. It has a good weight to it and is much lighter by itself than my 3GS with a case.
Feels like a sturdy phone and does have some good construction around the frame for protection. There is also metal around the lens itself as there should be.
What's this for?
The Not So Good:
Well, I'm worried about scratching the camera lens. I don't know that I ever will and I'm assuming it's made of good glass but it does protrude a bit on the back. There is metal all around it for protection but all it would take is that one certain drop to smash it.
The camera could be better. I mean it does pretty well but, images are just a little grainy to me and I would like to see full manual controls or at least shutter speed control. I don't think there is any real zoom, just digital and I have no idea who makes the lens.
Video recording could be better as well. There is some rolling shutter but, even the DSLR's have that. To me it didn't look like the camera was shooting at 24fps, it didn't look as low as 15 but it didn't look like 24 or 30 either. I could be mistaken about the whole thing though as it could just be that when you record you are only seeing 15 fps but, when you playback you see the full frame rate. I really need more time to play with the phone to give a definite opinion/verdict here. All that being said there is a lot of potential here with the software. I also wonder if using a class 6 or higher memory card will help as well.
*Did a few tests and dropped in a class 6 card. I don't know that it made any difference but I had no problem recording in 1080p and it looked fine to me so I'm thinking it's just that when you are recording the visual feedback you get is only like 15fps or something but when you play back it's the full 24-30 or whatever.*
Although the screen size is 3.7 inches vs the 3GS' 3.4 they are both the same width. So I feel a little fooled about the size of the screen, however it is a good bit taller and the higher resolution and cleaner looking image quality, partially make up for it. I don't feel like "man, this screen is too small" I feel more like "well, it would be nice if it really were a tad wider but, it looks so nice and is a lot taller so I can't really complain"
Bloatware/Bloat. Not really a fault of the hardware but, I do hope HTC slims down sense footprint, and I could do without some of the T-mobile apps that no one will ever use.
Lag. There is some but, I hardly notice it enough to care and I'm sure that will be fixed once we get an update/hack/rom or two.
Final Thoughts
I'm keeping this baby. There is no way I'm sending this back unless there is some kind of major hardware failure or something. There just isn't anything else at T-Mobile that covers all the things "I want" in a cell phone.

However, I was complimented on how much clearer my voice was on the other end of the line and I could hear the other person a lot better than before.
Reception seems/felt a little better than the 3G Slide. Not a great deal better but, I was getting 2 bars of 3G (which oddly shows up as 4G) in a location where I normally get 1 bar. Also, I didn't have to manually set the phone to WCDMA for it to pick it up.
HTC Flashlight app is in here and it uses both LED's
Wifi Hotspot widget is in here too.
Trackpad button thing is so much nicer than the 3GS and it has this neat illumination thing that goes on when it's charging. It isn't bright though, you almost need to be at an angle to see it, it's very subtle but the coolest thing ever.
genius button still says "please wait" but, it's infinitely faster than the 3GS. LOL. if it wasn't I'd probably rip someones head off.
Grip of the phone is excellent, atleast with the Khaki. It feels sooooo good in your hand and isn't going to slip and fall near as many times as the 3GS or many other phones I've owned before. It has a good weight to it and is much lighter by itself than my 3GS with a case.
Feels like a sturdy phone and does have some good construction around the frame for protection. There is also metal around the lens itself as there should be.
What's this for?
The Not So Good:
Well, I'm worried about scratching the camera lens. I don't know that I ever will and I'm assuming it's made of good glass but it does protrude a bit on the back. There is metal all around it for protection but all it would take is that one certain drop to smash it.
The camera could be better. I mean it does pretty well but, images are just a little grainy to me and I would like to see full manual controls or at least shutter speed control. I don't think there is any real zoom, just digital and I have no idea who makes the lens.
Video recording could be better as well. There is some rolling shutter but, even the DSLR's have that. To me it didn't look like the camera was shooting at 24fps, it didn't look as low as 15 but it didn't look like 24 or 30 either. I could be mistaken about the whole thing though as it could just be that when you record you are only seeing 15 fps but, when you playback you see the full frame rate. I really need more time to play with the phone to give a definite opinion/verdict here. All that being said there is a lot of potential here with the software. I also wonder if using a class 6 or higher memory card will help as well.
*Did a few tests and dropped in a class 6 card. I don't know that it made any difference but I had no problem recording in 1080p and it looked fine to me so I'm thinking it's just that when you are recording the visual feedback you get is only like 15fps or something but when you play back it's the full 24-30 or whatever.*
Although the screen size is 3.7 inches vs the 3GS' 3.4 they are both the same width. So I feel a little fooled about the size of the screen, however it is a good bit taller and the higher resolution and cleaner looking image quality, partially make up for it. I don't feel like "man, this screen is too small" I feel more like "well, it would be nice if it really were a tad wider but, it looks so nice and is a lot taller so I can't really complain"
Bloatware/Bloat. Not really a fault of the hardware but, I do hope HTC slims down sense footprint, and I could do without some of the T-mobile apps that no one will ever use.
Lag. There is some but, I hardly notice it enough to care and I'm sure that will be fixed once we get an update/hack/rom or two.
Final Thoughts
I'm keeping this baby. There is no way I'm sending this back unless there is some kind of major hardware failure or something. There just isn't anything else at T-Mobile that covers all the things "I want" in a cell phone.

Had my Rogers One X for a week - impressions

Been lurking on these forums for a long time, finally decided to register to share my thoughts on the One X..
I've predominantly been an iPhone user since the launch of the 3g here in Canada. With a jailbreak and length of usage, I have my iPhone set up to do everything I need it to do almost perfectly. In the last half a year or so, however, I've become tired of looking at iOS. Every time I'd look at android devices with their big screens and useful widgets I'd feel a little pang of jealousy. Thus, I started purchasing Android devices non stop and within the last year, I tried the:
Nexus S
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy S2
HTC Sensation
and
Galaxy Nexus again
I ended up returning / selling each of these phones for a variety of reasons, the two biggest factors were the lack of comparable pixel density and battery life. After getting rid of the Sensation I bought an iPhone 4S and was disturbed by how much worse the battery life was vs the iPhone 4. My 4 would never come close to dying and the 4S was struggling to make it through a day.
The second galaxy nexus with 4.0.4 was almost perfect BUT the samsung build quality bothered me as it just didn't "feel" like a premium device should in the hand..
I knew as soon as I saw the One X I'd have to give it a try. HTC is known for putting together phones that feel great in the hand and this is a factor for me. So far, this phone has been outstanding! I find myself unlocking it regularly just to look at the display. The battery life has been incredible, I have not come close to having the battery die on me on any given day. Granted, I do more texting, twitter, facebook, browsing and text based things vs playing games. The longest day I've had on it so far is 19h 51m with 4h 18m of screen time and I still had 11% of battery left.
Not being a hardcore android enthusiast as of yet, I don't have too much of an issue with sense 4.0. It's pretty to look at and adds some decent functionality. The downside is the minor lag when flicking between homescreens. I would hope that on a flagship, powerful device they'd be able to have virtually no noticeable lag whilst performing such tasks.
This phone does most things flawlessly, I have zero complaints regarding phone performance, call quality, text msging etc. As a phone, it seems to be working extremely well thus far. It also feels great in the hands, the polycarbonate shell almost has a ceramic feel to it. The size is a bit shocking coming from an iPhone but is easy to adapt to.
However, the device isn't without it's bugs, these are the ones I've noticed so far:
-Display: I know HTC is using two different LCD panels, mine is definitely the warmer of the two being used and the whites have a bit more of a yellowy than a blueish tinge to them. I'm not sure how much this bothers me as of yet as in every way the display seems great to look at, I run auto brightness and don't expect it to be extremely bright. I'd be interested in knowing whether anyone with a Rogers unit has a whiter or yellower display?
-Wifi seems to be an ongoing issue. At first it seemed like it would barely hold onto a solid wifi connection at home. I googled like mad and saw a suggestion regarding hard coding the IP vs using DHCP to solve the issue. I didn't think that would be the solution and found another person saying the phone seemed to work better with a wireless network mode of b/g vs b/g/n so I disabled N on my router and the wifi seems to be much more consistent now but not perfect. At times the wifi bars will just disappear for no apparent reason. I've never had an issue like this with any other wifi device at home. Also attempted a channel change. Hoping it's a software issue that gets sorted with an update
-Camera seems pretty average to me.. This is one area where I think the iPhone still excels beyond any other phone I've ever tried. Its simple camera tends to take pretty good 95% of the time. With the One X so far I had a buddy attempt to snap a quick picture of me and it wasn't great. Have tried a few test pictures around the house and the quality seems okay but not great. Keep in mind, I haven't messed with settings, just literally point and shoot. I don't feel as if though you should have to adjust settings to produce a good quality image with a camera phone, I'm not a photographer and have no real interest in learning about photography. I just want to capture a moment on demand and have it captured fairly well without much effort
-Status bar icons: Last night was the first time I've set an alarm on the phone. The icons in the status bar seemed to be going a bit nuts, the alarm icon would disappear and reappear for no apparent reason. Not sure if I just need a reboot because I haven't heard anything about this anywhere
-Call volume display: When I adjust the volume during a call, the volume display is still on the screen when I'm ending the call, which could be minutes later. For some reason it doesn't seem like it's automatically closing off the screen
Anyway, sorry for the long winded intro and thoughts. Would love to hear feedback regarding the issues I've experienced and would be glad to answer questions regarding the device for those of you still waiting to pick yours up.

Hey there tawheed12! Picked up a One XL from Rogers friday last week as well, I'll share my experience with the issues you mentioned and maybe we can get a better picture of what's wrong. (no pun intended)
I too have noticed a yellowish tinge. However, I've been reading a lot on Google Books (reading a book on a screen this size is a real treat) and I've noticed that the more I use the phone with a solid, or near solid white screen, the less the yellowish tinge. It could be my imagination, but it could also be the screen needs to be "broken in". I don't know anything about the manufacturing process for this new generation of SLCDs so it might be possible it just takes time.
I tested the alarm and the call volume display issues, they don't seem to exist on mine for some reason. Alarms stick and the volume bar fades away after a few seconds. I tested normally and in speakerphone mode. I wonder if it's a third party app you're using?
As for the camera, I've fiddled around with most of the settings, and it seems to take more focused/better shots if you turn off the continuous shooting mode and frame your pictures normally. I know the high shutter speed is supposed to be a huge selling point but the bursting just seems useless to me. Still, even with it off, photos aren't brilliant or anything. HDR and Low Light modes can be useful sometimes, everything else just seems gimmicky or redundant to me. I have taken a few good shots though, if you want to compare let me know and I'll upload some.
My router is and has always been less reliable than my phone so I can't test that one out for ya
One thing I've noticed, the stock music app seems a little nonintuitive in some areas. Google Voice Actions' "listen to" command won't actually play anything, it just does a search in the app, and it will only do it ONCE. Further tries just bring you to the original search and ignore what you said. Hardly hands free. It also has random issues mixing up album arts with different albums in the queue. I've switched to Winamp in the meantime, but it's a shame because the stock app works very well otherwise.
One thing really bothering me, my camera clicks when changing focus. It was quiet at first, but it's getting louder fast. I hope there isnt an issue with our batch of phones! I'd appreciate knowing if anyone else is having this issue.

Good to know about the screen. It doesn't really bother me too much until I hold it next to a device with more of a blueish tinge.
I noticed the camera focusing sound too, very odd. Never had a phone that makes any type of audible noise when focusing.
I haven't used the music app so can't really help you on that one.
I'll try and take some good pics and upload them and we can compare!

My only real complaint so far is the wifi. It seems VERY shaky at much smaller distances than other phones I've had, to the point that putting my body between the phone and the router at about 20 feet makes the signal disappear. This is the only phone I've ever owned that had this much trouble with the wifi in my house. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in software.

I still haven't experienced any issues with WiFi on mine. It's rock solid.
The only thing I can think of, is that I've disabled Packet Aggregation on my router (Asus RT-N56U) due to some incompatibilities with my D-Link AP (constant disconnections). Perhaps it's the same issue.

Don't own one yet, but I've played with the demo unit at AT&T numerous times. About half the time I've had the wifi drop out on me. This is concerning and hope it can be fixed with an update. Regardless, I will be preording my unit tomorrow.

I *HAVE* to assume this is a software issue. It's ridiculous how bad it is. Changing my router to just b/g did make it much more consistent but still not even close to 100%. It's constantly slower than my iPhone testing from the same spots of the house. Could always try to enable the "Best wifi performance" option or whatever but it apparently sucks down quite a bit more battery.

I can also say i have the same issues regarding the wifi! Seems to be a widespread issue.

Great news about the battery because I just mostly text and i talk about a good hour on the phone daily, not really a phone gamer, so my battery should be great fingers crossed.

Considering your usage, I think the battery will be more than adequate!
I do keep my brightness on auto, limit some push notifications and keep my GPS off though I doubt the latter two make much of a difference.

I never have gps on since it sucks so bad on my captivate I have just given up on it for now lol

I got mine about 3 days ago - yesterday and today I have noticed the battery life improving greatly - the first few charge cycles it was a hog, but it seems to be evening out.
I've had many flagship android phones and had an iphone at 6 different times (from 3G to 4S) so I would say I've had my fair share.
This HTC One X is the first android phone I've had that truely feels high end - I LOVE the screen and its all around a great looking device. No complaints from me actually - its also the first android phone I've had I didn't immediately want to flash a new rom on. I will likely flash AOSP on it though at some point, whenever that is possible.
in short - it's a FANTASTIC phone! battery life blows the 4S out of the water.

If you are an avid ROM flasher, you know that on new phones, and after ROM flashes, the battery meter is not calibrated. The actual battery consumption is not changing. Just the % battery that is being displayed is changing (getting more accurate).

kinda lame the "Camera seems pretty average". this is supposedly one of the strong selling points of the device. i'll have my GNex laying around for a bit after i get mine so i'll be doing all kinds of comparisons between the two. i have no doubt, though, that it's going to trump my GNex in spades.

Trust me. When you get this phone. You won't be dissappointed. Esp in camera area. But again, its a phone, not a dedicated camera, so its kind of silly seeing people dis phone makers because areas like cameras, gaming, screen reso is not stelllar. Want a great camera? Lol buy a camera, want a great gaming console? Buy a game console. Want great display? Go get a 55 LCD screen tv. Maybe I'm just excited about this phone.

I have to agree the only two complaints I have with mine. The first is the Wi-Fi it seems spotty unless I am less than ten feet from my router. The only other complaint I have is with the sense keyboard. I am testing a few alternatives so its more a preference than anything. Bottom line though the One X is probably the best device I have used in a long time.

Why I'm going to keep this phone - benefits outweigh downsides...

I've had this phone for about 10 days now and I'm coming from a GSM Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 which I still love and adore. Having said that I've decided I'm keeping this phone because like with everything while not perfect, the benefits to it outweigh the downsides. Here's my take:
Things I love about One X:
- Screen is spectacular and best I've ever seen yet. Puts Nexus to shame. Hard going back to Nexus after using the One X
- Camera - best camera I've ever used on any mobile device yet. Not just optics but the software is fantastic. Love the burst mode/best shot, HDR actually does something, panaroma, etc. Especially coming from Nexus, it's a HUGE improvement
- LTE - yes it eats battery like nothing else but god damn it's fast and it's glorious. My first cell phone didn't have data and the first one with data had GPRS (not even EDGE) so the fact I can be standing somewhere and get 25mbps down is just mind boggling. Love it.
- CPU - the S4 is a beast, I have a PS Vita and an iPad3 so I don't need my phone to be a gaming powerhouse but this thing flies. Noticeably faster for me in many apps than the Nexus and web browsing is desktop class. I can even leave Flash to always on and I don't even notice! Definitely future proof for at least another year.
- Build quality - superb and feels very solid. NO creaking and it's light but does not feel cheap. Galaxy Nexus feels great too but still feels cheaper and flimsy compared to One X. I have the white one and it looks very very nice.
- Bluetooth 4.0 - had some problems on stock ROM (related to wifi I think) but with 1.82 it's very stable and works great. Future proofing for newer devices coming now with 4.0. I'm a big Bluetooth user so nice having the latest spec.
Things I really don't like about the One X:
- Sense 4.0 - yes it's better than previous ones (I had an Incredible and a Sensation) but it's still a piece of crap. Unnecessary UI animations and changes just for the fact they want to change things. YES there are nice little tweaks they've done but those are for me the ones under the hood and not really UI ones. The memory management/multitasking thing is a great example of one gone wrong but for me personally, I LOVE stock ICS and I can't wait for an unlocked bootloader so I can run a stock AOKP ROM on it.
- WiFi - although the 1.82 RUU seems to have fixed it somewhat, it's still flaky. I have to have "best wifi performance" checked otherwise notifications don't always come through when phone is asleep.
- Battery life - I guess I can't be too hard on it because of the screen, CPU and LTE but it still is quite unpredictable. It's NOT BAD but it's not great for me yet either. I'm sure I'll get it to a point where it'll be reliable but right now it seems all over the place.
- Power button - why in god's name do the morons at HTC stick the power/sleep button on the top of the phone when every other manufacturer has realized it's more logical to put it on the side. Especially on a 4.7" phone!! Idiots. This is annoying but I can live with it.
- Wide phone - the screen is only .5 " bigger than the Nexus but the phone is much wider in my hand and not as comfortable but not a deal breaker for me.
- AT&T Crapware - can be disabled but irritating they loaded it up with so much garbage.
- NO Google Wallet support - I MISS THIS the most from Nexus. I have a Citi card setup and used it a ton daily but now I can't
There is probably more but these are the highlights. So yes, the phone is far from perfect but I'm not getting rid of my Nexus so I will still have that. This phone has what I'm looking for which is the camera, screen, network and cpu that beats my current phone...so I'll look past the other stuff that bothers me - at least until I can flash stock ICS on it.

Just went back to my Nexus for a bit and I have to keep brightness at 50%. Anything less and the Nexus display hurts my eyes after spending time with the OneX. However software wise it feels so good.
Keeping the OneX but so so happy to have a Nexus I can take a break and go back to.

Regarding the power button, I've owned 7 phones so far, different manufactures and all of them had power button on top. Doesn't bother me a single bit.
However the volume buttons placed on the opposite side of 3.5 jack is a bad design, because with this configuration you can't access them when the phone in the belt pouch. The 3.5 jack kind of forcing the pouch being on left side, making the buttons be at the bottom.

Its annoying but not a huge issue for me yet. I also plan on rooting soon and customizing. I believe part of the issue is the minfree setting which you should be able to edit with root. Also it can't be far off before custom ROMs based on AOSP will be out. Just waiting for the boot loader to be unlocked.

Have not experienced LTE yet, but I am on "4G" here in Utah. We will get LTE by the end of the year I guess.
The screen on this thing is down right beastly. Just amazing. Compared to my iPhone 4s, damn.
I don't mind the multitasking to be honest coming from an iPhone where I never used it. It suites me fine.
Camera isn't great, I don't believe as good as the iPhone 4s, but still one of the best I have seen so far.
So far battery life I get around 16 hours, not bad, but not great.
Phone quality is there as well. No complaints from me.
I guess the only downside so far for me is the google wallet. I was really wanting to use that when switching over to android. Hopefully it will happen via att or root at some point.

Things I love about One X:
- Screen is spectacular and best I've ever seen yet. Puts Nexus to shame. Hard going back to Nexus after using the One X
- Camera - best camera I've ever used on any mobile device yet. Not just optics but the software is fantastic. Love the burst mode/best shot, HDR actually does something, panaroma, etc. Especially coming from Nexus, it's a HUGE improvement
- LTE - yes it eats battery like nothing else but god damn it's fast and it's glorious. My first cell phone didn't have data and the first one with data had GPRS (not even EDGE) so the fact I can be standing somewhere and get 25mbps down is just mind boggling. Love it.
- CPU - the S4 is a beast, I have a PS Vita and an iPad3 so I don't need my phone to be a gaming powerhouse but this thing flies. Noticeably faster for me in many apps than the Nexus and web browsing is desktop class. I can even leave Flash to always on and I don't even notice! Definitely future proof for at least another year.
- Build quality - superb and feels very solid. NO creaking and it's light but does not feel cheap. Galaxy Nexus feels great too but still feels cheaper and flimsy compared to One X. I have the white one and it looks very very nice.
- Bluetooth 4.0 - had some problems on stock ROM (related to wifi I think) but with 1.82 it's very stable and works great. Future proofing for newer devices coming now with 4.0. I'm a big Bluetooth user so nice having the latest spec.
Things I really don't like about the One X:
- Sense 4.0 - yes it's better than previous ones (I had an Incredible and a Sensation) but it's still a piece of crap. Unnecessary UI animations and changes just for the fact they want to change things. YES there are nice little tweaks they've done but those are for me the ones under the hood and not really UI ones. The memory management/multitasking thing is a great example of one gone wrong but for me personally, I LOVE stock ICS and I can't wait for an unlocked bootloader so I can run a stock AOKP ROM on it.
- WiFi - although the 1.82 RUU seems to have fixed it somewhat, it's still flaky. I have to have "best wifi performance" checked otherwise notifications don't always come through when phone is asleep.
- Battery life - I guess I can't be too hard on it because of the screen, CPU and LTE but it still is quite unpredictable. It's NOT BAD but it's not great for me yet either. I'm sure I'll get it to a point where it'll be reliable but right now it seems all over the place.
- Power button - why in god's name do the morons at HTC stick the power/sleep button on the top of the phone when every other manufacturer has realized it's more logical to put it on the side. Especially on a 4.7" phone!! Idiots. This is annoying but I can live with it.
- Wide phone - the screen is only .5 " bigger than the Nexus but the phone is much wider in my hand and not as comfortable but not a deal breaker for me.
- AT&T Crapware - can be disabled but irritating they loaded it up with so much garbage.
- NO Google Wallet support - I MISS THIS the most from Nexus. I have a Citi card setup and used it a ton daily but now I can't
There is probably more but these are the highlights. So yes, the phone is far from perfect but I'm not getting rid of my Nexus so I will still have that. This phone has what I'm looking for which is the camera, screen, network and cpu that beats my current phone...so I'll look past the other stuff that bothers me - at least until I can flash stock ICS on it.

I'm about to bring mine back because of the multi tasking. I have my gnex in my draw and it wants to go back into action. Once things get sorted out and boot loader unlocked I'll probably but another HOX

I can't see any trouble with the One X in anyway. Multitasking if your asking me.... I switch between 2 or 3 apps at the most. I don't do gaming with it. Mostly use it for processing capacity and some programing, emails, sms, whatsapp, im+, documents to go etc... I don't use any of the stock application and most of the stock/htc apps are disabled. I've installed what I needed to operate the phone and software. Space wise... geez I have plenty of space left 6GB left after loading nearly 120 mp3's on. As if anyone is going to go through that amount in just a few days... I swap my music every month or so and never seem to be a problem. I have e nearly 3000 pictures on top of that....
I'm really wondering if it's most just because people are whining then actually having issues... just because it doesn't fit their tiny little needs... Almost also seems like you want your hand held phone to replace your desktop/laptop PC... well unless they have better batteries in the future.
LTE is great don't get me wrong but unless I'm going to transfer a large file... it's disabled just because it kills the battery. With just 4G on I can get roughly 27hrs worth of juice. I'm quite happy with that.

If the way they do multitasking on this phone has any influence on the very strong battery life, then I can deal with it just fine.

Hey that's fine but they should give us the option under the development menu. I don't need my battery to last forever. I have an office with a phone charger. I'm not worried about getting 22+ hours of battery life.

More options = more confusion. You must remember, we are all like experts with android phones here on xda. Usually people are still learning how to answer a phone call on day 3 of their first smart phone, let alone an android. The wonderful part about android, and this site, is that you'll get custom roms with that option sooner rather than later. If HTC decided this was the way they wanted multitasking to improve battery life, they are going to stick with it. Being able to say the phone lasts longer than an iphone to a potential buyer is much more beneficial to sales to the common person then "it multitasks better."

I appreciate OP for bringing up such a post, as i feel that the HTC One X is really a great phone (its actually perfect for me!)
Unlike others, i never see most of the commonly faced problems on the forum while using my One X.
Here are the reasons i like the One X
1. SCREEN : No doubt the best screen ever.
2. BUILD Quality is superb and the design is sleek which i like. I dont ming the unibody design or the non-expandable memory/battery.
3. BATTERY : My phone gets me through a day with heavy use easily and by the time i charge it for the night i usually have 30% charge remaining, thats almost 16 hrs with moderate - heavy usage ( temple run, reddit, voice calls etc etc). Also i am in an area with LTE. I hardly notice the drain in battery bcoz of LTE. (my wifi and data are on all the time)
4. CAMERA : has tonnes of options and better than most cell phone cameras today.
MULTI-TASKING : i have never faced any issue with it. if i exit the game (using home button), then it resumes back at the same point. Likewise, for the other apps.
Wi-Fi : Again, i never faced any issues, i have always received the emails etc promptly (maybe not immediately, but the delay isnt significant enough for me to worry. Maybe 2-3 mins max)
SENSE : This is the only thing i dont like on my phone. would've loved a stock ICS experience.
In the end, am extremely happy with my phone, as i feel its a beautiful premium hardware.
