Hello,
Just wanted to thank everyone in this forum for all the useful tools. I came from DroidX, HTC, and bought a G-tab a few days ago. I wanted a tablet, and decided in the G-tab based on posts from this forum. So far have used Vegan for a few days and now on TNT....both really excellent. I currenlty prefer TNT..seems a bit faster....the original s/w really sucked....
thanks again!
First I was Vegan 5.1 and moved to TNT for several weeks. Tried out Adam and Vegan again last night. Still on Vegan today. It's all good... enjoy.

Hi tablet users, as a relatively new Android user, (ARIA Rooted and updated to 2.2 thanks to ATTN1) I have been extremely interested in this tablet. I was hoping to get some real answers from honest users of this device. I just don't trust the reviews that you can read from the various e-stores as they could be made up to entice people to buy.
Any feedback would be stellar!
Does it work with the regular Android market?
Don't be afraid to buy, as long as you don't mind tinkering just a little...
It's extremely easy to install one of these custom ROMs and have this little machine humming right along...I went from TnTlite v2.4 to 3.0 in about 5 minutes...
I haven't installed ClockworkMod. Adding Flash is easy enough, and I think is included in TnTlite 3.0...Getting the market to work correctly (99% anyway) is very easy.
I'm looking forward to 3.1 and future updates...it will only get better.
Thanks XDA!
You can add Market to the stock GTablet; there are instructions in other threads on the forum.
You will get the most bang for your bucks by flashing one of the custom ROMs available here. I used Zpad for a while but was won over by the soft buttons and lack of TnT in the VEGAn build.
I use my tablet every day for all my web, email, and chatting needs. I only use my laptop... hmm, when DO I use my laptop? Oh yeah, for torrents and word processing, since there aren't any tablet-aware office suites... yet.

Hello,
First want to thank everyone on this forum for the wealth of information and work you guys do. This is an outstanding site.
First saw the Gtab at staples around Thanksgiving and I was excited from the beginning. I've been wanting a tablet for a while but I did not want an iPad and 7 inch tablets didn't interest me. I knew my wife would most likely get one for me so I've been lurking around the site for almost a month now.
I'd like to point out that I have never used an Android powered device, not even looked at a smart phone in the store, so this OS is completely new and foreign to me. I still don't know what "side-loading" is, but I have learned a lot from the sight so far.
Out of the box nothing wanted to run. First thing I did was run the update and that made all the difference in the world. I'm really pleased with this device. It's responsive and easy to use.
The screen sensitivity seemed fine but I ran the calibration.ini/reboot routine anyway. I also managed to load Adobe flash which was far easier than I expected. It surprised me because I had no idea where I was supposed to copy the file or what I was to do with it when I got it on the tablet.
Anyway, again thanks to everyone for all the information. Hopefully soon I'll be able to figure out how to install new apps and even get an alternate system running. I really like this tablet, easy to use, fast and very responsive and that's running the stock system.
Side note: My wife has been messing with her bosses iPad and just last week she was trying to convince me to reconsider getting one. Now she's completely changed her mind. She thinks the Gtab is faster, smoother and more responsive than his iPad.

I am considering the Viewsonic G tablet, looks like it can be really fast with an OS upgrade. Those that own one are you happy with its performance and are you using the stock OS? Also can you send and receive text messages with this tablet?
Thanks!
ED
I picked one up from sears yesterday. I had read that the stock os was not very good so I didn't bother with it I upgraded straight to tnt lite 2.2 and then today upgraded to 3.1.2 I like for the brief amount of time that I have had it. There is a lot of help here so all you have to do is read the post =) I spent the last couple of weeks doing that before I purchased mine. Only problem I have with it is that I can't put it down because if I do one of my family members takes it and I won't get it back for a while.

Welcome to xda-developers. You will see things move pretty quick here so hang on tight.
I have run all the ROMs available and like VEGAn the best. It is currently in the beta phase but it really improves performance.
The only way I'm aware of to send and receive text is to use Google Voice. The problem I see with Google Voice is that it you selecte one of their phone numbers which you have to give to your contacts (so they know it's you). I find it easier to just text from my Droid 1.
I've had my gtab since Nov 21nd. The developers here at XDA have done an excellent job in getting the most out of the gtab. The earlier version of the out of the box software ran like a dog (I never understood this phrase... Some dogs run really fast...) I received the OTA update on Nov 22nd, which made the out of the box software somewhat usable, although performance was struggling to get to 1000 on the Quadrant Standard benchmark. Using any of the custom roms such as VEGAn (beta), ZPAD, or TnT Lite, we see Quadrant Standard benchmark scores around 2400, which is one of the fastest devices today running on the Android OS.
Viewsonic provided another software update on Dec 23rd, which was much improved. Performance for the stock rom is running around 1800, which is pretty good in itself.
Most applications run smooth. Web browsing with the out of the box browser is so-so. Other folks use browsers like Dolphin and xScope. I particularly don't care for either one. Video (e.g. ripped movies, YouTube) run smooth. Video running in a Adobe Flash Player is a mixed bag. We're all hoping that the official release of the flash player next month will support Tegra 2, and will address the video chopiness issues we see.
All-in-all, I'm very impressed with the gtab performance.
Hi guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all the information you have provided in these forums, Ive been using it for over 2 years now without contributing... I just wanted to let you guys know that people really do appreciate your work even tho they don't take time to post. I finally got the best Captivate Experience by far that I am now considering to stay with it till quad core phones come out. I love darkyrom but MIUI rocks, smoothest experience Ive had ever! KC1 modem is amazing and I am totally satisfied with my phone now.
Its about 1 year after the first gtablet on Woot which sold more than 10000 in a day, and brought a lot of us here to start on what someone called "modding yoga".
I wanted to check what the ROM distribution is today.
I am still on my TNT Lite 4.4 Froyo 1.1 BL ROM.
I noticed that I have 200 apps (top right corner in My Apps on Market). Is that a lot?
Recent discoveries on my ROM
* Got Esc, Cntrl,Tab sort ofworking on my witglobal USB keyboard case finally (for vi/emacs fans).
* Optimus 2x in build.prop lets me install and play the Gameloft games like RS 2012
I am glad that the battery life is holding up, I was afraid it would have half lifed by now. There still does not seem to be good battery replacement. (right?)
Post your ROM details and app count.
Frankentab is my ROM

gtabcomb, rarely boot the thing, but still was fine for what I bought it for - to learn android when considering a job in that space. Still works fine. Working for Microsoft now, so, um, not a lot of Android there
Win8 Tablet is in my future, for sure.
Frankentab -for now. Looking @ ICS....
TeamDRH ICS ROM for the win only problem is having to side-load apps that developers mark as only supported on certain hardware (99% still work flawlessly, though)
Team DRH Ice Cream sandwich Beta... played with GTAComb before the alpha of ICS.... It's like a new tablet every few months
Just upgraded to new OTA stock
I have been running the stock ROM with the market fix since I bought new. I just bit the bullet to upgrade to the latest stock rom and apply the market fix. Everything appears to be running well, and all features are working. Now that I am a bit more comfortable NV flashing my tablet, I might decide to try some of the more custom ROMS, but I don't know how much performance improvement I will see.
Currently on Vegan, but thinking of stepping up to CM7.1. TeamDRH ICS is tempting, but I think I will wait for more stability first.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream {sandwich}
I had a g-tab but bought a second one on woot. I've spent the last year loading and reloading them with different roms. Having two made it easy to compare. At the end of last year, both were on Flashback and that was pretty darn good. Then came Team drh and ics. It was a little rocky in the beginning but with frequent updates it soon became the rom of choice for me. With the release of the beta version there is no doubt that this is the best rom for me. Following the directions on the op exactly, you will have a great experience!
Using ICS. I dont use the G Tablet anymore and gave it to my wife after I put ICS on my HP Touchpad but the GTablet a year later with ICS is still a powerfull device.
