[Q] Malata T2 (New) - G Tablet General

Here's my question. Being new to this whole tablet scene, I bought a Malata Zpad T2 from China. Of course the first thing I do when I charge it up is to get all the Chinese stuff off of it, so I installed CWM and first installed TNT and it worked great. I couldn't leave well enough alone so i thought I would try another firmware and I think it was Vegan and ran into some problems. I tried again to install it but when I went into the files on the SDCard there was quite a bit of stuff missing. I'm thinking the whole Android 2.2 needs to be reloaded but I'm not sure? Also I tried doing a recovery when things started going screwy but CWM said there was no back-up to recover. (I know I did a back-up). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Howie

I have one of these picked up in Guangzhou recently. Really like it a lot. Based on what you've said, you may have wiped out your backups in the process. If you are unable to boot into clockwork, or get a ROM to load on to the internal SDCard, you may have to use nvflash to restore bare metal.
This may help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
The only concern I would have with that is the ROM listed there is primarily for the Viewsonic version. It should still work. However, if you want to use bits more native to our tablet, you can go here: http://2.hot12.115cdn.com/pickdown/...gIdeas_XL_3.rar&key2=32342e3137392e39332e3536
I believe that you can use that package with the same instructions in the previous link. Let me know if this is over your head. You did say you were new to this.

Also look at this thread:
http://android.modaco.com/content/a...zpad-t2-development-should-also-work-on-vega/
zPad v2's are not the same as the GTAB (or the zPad v1's) in that they have 1GB of RAM. Using straight GTAB ROM's could cause issues.
That "Big Ideas 1222" is an nvflash image - I know this because I've actually used pieces of it in my own ROMs, for the performance enhancements.

Roebeet,
I am currently using a grab rom on the ztab... do you think that the performance would be much better if we moved to the bigideas rom? Also, got a weird issue with the dock status being backwards. Thinks it is docked when it isn't and vice versa.

Finally got BigIdeas installed. Not sure how, as the first time I installed it it came up Chinese? After a reboot it came up in English. Then USB through my laptop wouldn't work so I went into CWM and mounted or unmounted USB, rebooted and now that works. I think my next dilema is I don't think it's reading my 16GB INTERNAL card as being 16GB. I'm at work now but I'll be checkin when I get home. Thanks, Howie

Is it reading it at something like 14GB?

Nevermind
OK, Nevermind, I thought it was reading lower but it's actually saying 14.4Gb.

No worries

Hello,
Many of us (Malata Zpad T2) still have problems implementing Gingerbread on their tablets.
All the builds i found here are based on the partition-structure of gtablet.
You were gone an other way with new FW TNT V5 based one big idea1222 ROM.
Is there a change to implement this new GB-ROM's on this base.
For Malata Zpad T2 it has the big advantage of having 1Gb RAM and better performance.

TnT UAT version 3991

Found this in my TnT site scan:
http://tapntap.http.internapcdn.net/tapntap/viewsonic/update-smb_a1002-3991-user.zip
Build date is 2/12, and it's still Froyo. It looks like a lot of stuff was touched, perhaps they incorporated some recent Nvidia libs.
EDIT: They have a Flash player script in here - that's new.
EDIT2: So far, this update has competely borked my device. It's the bootloader or boot.img, so just keep that in mind. It could be that my device is all messed with all the recent flashing, but just be aware.
EDIT3: In case this is not already clear, this is a VERY dangerous update. Tread carefully - it requires stock 3588 as a baseline, including recovery.
3/28/2011 EDIT: Looks like Viewsonic pulled it (a case of the Woot! heebie-jeebies, perhaps?)
Sry to hear about your device. Hopefully you can figure it out. Bricked a phone before and took me a few weeks before I accidentally fixed it, lol.
As for the tnt update does this mean we may see another viewsonic ota update finally? Matbe they finally resolved the sluggishness issues and tntui will finally be usable
I got around the issue with using an older boot.img and bootloader. One (or both) are causing issues with my system.
They added a lockscreen - that will make some people very happy.
How did you get around this. I tried this update and it borked my device as well and I can't get past the viewsonic boot screen or load clockworkmod to boot the recovery kernel

I used nvflash - I dropped the old bootloader and boot.img in there and ran it with that, and it booted up.
EDIT: I couldn't get wifi working for Quadrant, but Nenamark is ~40fps. My guess is that they updated a lot of the libs so that they in up-to-date with recent Nividia changes.
EDIT2: Camera is working, including rotation. Gsensor is still off for games, but that's not a surprise.
Thank god for nvflash. I thought I seriously boned myself today installing this new UAT version. I flashed back to stock, reinstalled clockworkmod, and then was able to get back up to TNT lite 4.2.4.
While I am posting, I would like to thank all the Devs for their time and efforts making these ROMS and instructional posts. Without your efforts this tablet would seriously blow donkey balls. I actually bought the G tablet with the full intention of getting rid of the stock ROM and unleashing the full potential of the underlying hardware with the ROMS here.
Thanks again
This is not bad at all, I forgot how nice the weather dashboard looked because I was too busy cursing this thing for being sooo slow. I remember the first day I got this thing, I couldn't even stand to use it. It was so frustrating. You,gojimi and rothnic did an amazing job to get this tab where it is today. I think viewsonic even "borrowed" some of you guys work, lol.. Thanks Again for you guys work!
UPDATE: I went completely stock before this update, (no clockwork mod) this new update 3991 looks like it has a built in recovery menu. I don't remember that on older versions
what were you running prior to returning to stock?

I hadn't looked at their recovery - very nice. They are emulating what Notion Ink had done on their recovery.
This is going to be a nice update, once they shake out the bugs.
Here's a screenshot of the lockscreen, using the "classic" launcher:
Looks good, I like the changes.
2400 in Quadrant - and that's 3991 "stock", no changes. Normally stock is ~1900, I think.
I managed to get Wifi working by downleveling the Wifi drivers - that was needed to use the older kernel. I just don't understand why their new kernel doesn't work for me.

Looks/sounds very nice roebeet...can't wait for the push over OTA...I actually just went back to stock a few hours ago to mess with the enhancement pack with the January OTA update...it's actually fairly quick compared to the original stock...think I'll stick with it for a bit
I'm guessing that since it's a non-published update, then they may have an incomplete boot.img or possible they had to update the bootloader, who knows...could also be a "built-from-scratch" update that they are still working on, lol...doubtful but you never know
Good luck and here's hoping for an official push from Viewsonic here soon. The sooner they get this out, the sooner they can get to working on an official Viewsonic release of HC ;-) lol
Wow, that update is great! Though, sorry to hijack the thread, but I got no replies elsewhere, anyone had the "blank screen of dead" issue? I stop using my gtablet for a couple of weeks, and now that I boot it up again, the screen is white! (not even the VS birds..).
Keep pushing updates for us =)!
Thanks

Roebeet's new 1.2firmware "Brilliant Colors"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWtM7xyHtQs
Roebeet has made a very stable build on the 1.2firmware. Itwasnt hard at all to get there. I think if and when VS brings out new codes, it will only be 1.2 compatible. My thoughts only, not gospel
Anyway, this is how I was able to get this working the first time without any issues.
1) NVflash to base build
2) CWM to clear all data, cache. I used Calkulin's FORMAT ALL. boot to the os.
3) usb to the comp and slip in 3588 and recovery folder. rename 3588 to "update"
3) reboot with power and vol pressed. automatically installs 3588.
4) once insalled, boot to os.
5)usb to the comp and slip in 4349 and recovery folder. rename 3588 to "update"
6) reboot with power and vol pressed. automatically installs 4349.
7) once insalled, boot to os.
8) now find Roebeets Brilliant Ccolors ROM in another forum and repeat step 5 and 6 for this ROM. you shuold be good from there!
While I definitely respect the dev's work, I think I'm going to stay away from 1.2-based ROMs until VS gets its firmware upgrade situation sorted out once and for all.
Did you mean ... rename 4349 to "update" in this step?

Any points on what you like on it, better than TNT Lite 4.4 (or any 1.1 ROM ). Things you could not do/were not as good in the older ROMs.
thanks

i installed it when it was released. heads up make sure to install the 1.0.1 supp so that you can have flash support back up and rollin.
This rom is the only one that makes the tab seem like a tab and not a giant phone I've seen so far. Assume and market has no issues for me every other rom I couldn't get market to work.
Just my opinion!
I believe the new update that was pulled should have been more like this .
Would be better with a kernel but definitely a step in the right direction.

Keep in mind this is not a TnTLite-based mod, but it's based on VEGAn-Tab from GoJimi - it's a MOD to an existing ROM repackaged with a locked bootloader from Viewsonic. The theme applied looks cool!
EDIT: After a nice PM from roebeet, I am clarifying for those who don't know the following:
VEGAn-Tab, in it's original state, was a collaboration between GoJimi, rothnic and roebeet
as already stated in this post, this new Mod is based on VEGAn-Tab and will over time take on a different form, but it's base is VEGAn-Tab
there is no insinuation that roebeet lifted anything from GoJimi, only a correct statement that the base for this Mod came from VEGAn-Tab
There. That should hopefully clear up any misperception or misunderstanding as to what I was stating above. This mod looks great roebeet.

sorry. Yes rename to " update". Make sure you reinput another recovery folder. While the folder would still be there, the system deletes the command file so it doesn't loop back to installing the same file on a reboot.

hi cbay,
First of all this rom is based off the 1.2 (4349) bootloader. Also it has the feel of the Vegan-tab outlook. It is pretty responsive and the FC are almost to none. So far it has been stable and running like a champ.. I know roebeet has removed the phone apk to improve the battery life as well so that a big plus. Once i play with it more i will know more about this rom.
The HD videos are working really good as well as the tegra games.
Let us know how u make out.
So what's the benefit, if any, of installing this as opposed to VEGAn 5 with the supplement?
I am currently running 5 and it is VERY stable for me. Love it. It's my Daily Driver.
Any improvements on installing this? They look they same for the most part.
I have vegan 5 on one tablet and brilliant corners on my other tablet. I honestly can't really tell a big difference. BC may be slightly more stable. I still take the vegantab with me to work everyday but that is more because i have it setup perfectly than any particular problem with BC.
Both are very good.

Nah ... the current Vegan ROMS work great, without the uncertainty.

Kind of dumb but easy to answer NVflash question(and a good idea for everyone)

So I am putting together a flash drive with anything I would need to recover my phone and tablet at any point. I have odin, a stock EE4 odin file for my charge, a honeycomb rom, USB drivers for both tablet and phone, and NVflash 1.2 w/ CWM.
I have one question about the NVflash folder though. I have been watching tons of videos on NVflashing and so far every single one I have seen for successfully going from one custom rom to another requires NV flashing 1.1 first then 1.2 then flashing your rom(with whatever other instruction following).
My question is...if I plan on staying on a 1.2 boot loader from now on do I need to NV flash back to 1.1 if I ever brick my tablet or can I just NV flash 1.2 w/ cwm over what ever custom rom I am on(flashback honeycomb right now).
I want to know because my flash drive is only 1gb and I cannot fit both files into it with all the other stuff I need.
I tried searching a little bit and didn't really find to much on this.
Also hey everyone! I just got my G Tablet on Friday and so far I am loving it. The only problem I have are the viewing angles(which are absolutely horrible)but for a $200 honeycomb tablet with a dual core CPU I will live with it. I also set a new record for bricking a device with this thing
Take care everyone and thanks to anyone who can help. I will be hanging around here and posting occasionally. Thanks to all the devs for making this thing not suck(*cough* tapntap *cough*).
p.s. The good idea is putting together a flash drive you can carry around on your keychain/purse/wherever that has all recovery files necessary to un brick your device when you get curious and decide to flash a new kernel at work or something(I've done that wayyyy to many times).

If you are on 1.2 & plan on staying on 1.2 then you only need 1.2. You make want to do the version with CWM preinstalled unless you plan on adding the cwm separately.
I use something a little larger. My 650g hd goes where my tablet goes & I also use Dropbox (which comes with 2GB free) to keep those type files in. If I have an internet connection, I can reach my dropbox.

I plan on including NVflash for 1.1 in my mix as well. The files aren't huge (I just checked 1.2 w/ CWM, it's 100mb) and if its a disaster recovery kit I'm making I might as well have options.

Cheers Chris, thanks for the pointers.... I think I've balls'd it up
I mistook the standard Android recovery for CWM after running sausagemod... the ROM flashed but the compatibility file wont... so I'm left with a device with no working touchscreen and trying to install CWM from terminal also fails.. It says ... no /sdcard/recovery.img.
I also can seem to get the device in flash mode so I cant revert to the stock rom ether.
If you have any ideas it would be appreciated... one post in that thread reads very similar to my issue, they edited the 'sh install-recovery.sh' apparently and got the device back... but they haven't been here in years so I don't think will reply...
Well, the good thing is, its pretty hard to balls these devices up. As crappy as they are, its usually always possible to get back to stock, or at least get in functioning again...
That said...when you try to install a new recovery from terminal, are you sure you have unzipped the recovery.zip file into a location on your sdcard that is accessible, and have cd'ed into that directory?
Are you using livesuite to try and flash a new stock rom? I don't have my Astro any more, moved on to HP Touchpads (awesome tablets btw), but I seem to remember it could be a bit finicky to get it into flashing mode, what with button pressing etc...
Have you been to slatedroid.com? There is a section for these tablets there too, under Cortex A8 tablets, might be worth a gander on that site.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know...
Cheers
Edit: if the touchscreen isn't working, you can always connect a usb mouse. I did that with mine once when I had flashed the wrong compatibility zip. Think it came with a mini->standard usb adaptor....
Edit2: if you can link the post that was similar to your problem I will look and see what its about, might help!

Hi Chris! really appreciate your help and getting back to me.... sorry for the delay getting back to you... I was sent away from home for work.
What happened was... I got the drivers installed and working correctly, so I ran sausagemod option 5 and I then mistook the standard Andriod recovery for an early release of CWM... so proceeded to flash the Cyanogenmod 9 ROM, I thought 'Happy days!' its worked... then the MOMO9 file wouldn't flash and I realized that I was indeed in the stock recovery... so subsequently have no touchscreen working.... similar to post 46 in the original thread...
I've connected a keyboard and thought... ahhh this will be easy as I'll run recovery from terminal.... but I thought that had worked but it boots again to the standard android recovery... like in post 28 of the original thread... so again MOMO9 wont flash.
Looking again at the terminal out put it says...'no /sdcard/recovery.img' - I think this is because my 'recovery.img' is on my SD card located at /sdext instead... I guess I would have to edit the CWM file but I'm not really that sure on that... or if it would work...
With no touchscreen I cant click on 'USB storage mode' when I connect it to a PC as I have to use the connection to hook it up to a PC, so I cant use the keyboard... so I cant copy the recovery onto the internal storage and try from there....
And I'm dammed if I can get the bugger to go into 'flash mode' ether so I can return it to stock..... it ether boots or does nothing but blank screen...
I'd be ok if it was mine... but I'm flashing it for my brother which is a blow!
Hi is it possible for you to connect a usb mouse to the tablet, that way you might be able to move the cwm recovery img to the right place? Or use the terminal to move it...when you use the command line to install recovery, are you using the location of the img in your commands? Just type in your location, you won't have to mess with the image itself.
Otherwise livesuite and perseverance should be your route to flashing back to stock and starting again!
Cheers
Or you could open up install-recovery.sh in a text editor and look for the location of the recovery image in that file and change it to suit your setup?
Cheers

Cheers Chris I'll try that.... I've been trying to install a file manager via terminal.... the odd thing is .APK's dont show up when I go to the root of the SD card and type 'ls' - only .ZIP and .IMG
I'm using the terminal app thats built into the cyanogenmod 9 ROM....
Been hacking Phones and tablets for years... but ever way I turn on this turd with a screen is a dead end....
Edit: I turned on install from unknown sources and theyre now there... but I just get a list of errors go off the screen to fast for me to read... about location etc....
I have no idea what I'm doing in terminal... I left command line with DOS!
I tried this 'pm install astro file manager.apk' I thought that would do it
oh well.... killed it
Just a blank screen... wont turn on.... but I guess its still functioning somewhere as it detects in windows as an unrecognized device...
Livesuite starts but wont flash it..
I built a new PC with 32bit win 7 to flash it... looked to be going ok. it went to 3%, then stoooopid windows tried reinstalling some drivers for it and its been a brick since.
Guess thats game over?
EDIT: Holy [email protected]! it came back! LMAO! its now back to stock!
You were right! I tried my hardest to kill it! dam thing wont die!
Chris, sorry to trouble you again...
I'm back up and running stock... looks like 500m partition size...
I guess to run a custom ROM I need to flash an older stock ROM.... am I really going to gain much with a custom ROM?
Ha ha, good stuff mate, very similar to my experience with the bloody thing….
If you read thru the other thread linked in my first post I'm pretty sure there's a discussion there about flashing custom rom onto a slightly older stock rom as they increased the system partition sizes.
Its worth going for a custom rom. Runs smoother, faster, you just gotta get the damn thing on it in the first place. But worth it when you do!
Cheers
Edit: you may need to flash an older rom… .see this

LOL! DONE IT!
Flashed Cyanogenmod 9 from the original post and MOMO9 compatibility... works great! only problem I have is the resolution appears to be slightly out as icons can go off the screen...
Hmmm wondering about Cyanogenmod 10 now! Hmmmmm what did you end up installing?

Nice, well done mate :good:
Its a while ago, but I think I ended up putting cm10 on it eventually.
The thing with the icons going off the screen can be rectified by using a different launcher, if I remember correctly - try ADW launcher, my personal fave.
Cheers

Thanks for all your help Chris, really do appreciate it.
I've had a good play with the tablet over the weekend, I can get CM9 installed and working fine... I then flashed a later stock ROM to give me the 500mb /system partition... but the CM10 .zip just wont work... it flashed ok... but it wont go past the rotating boot screen.... am I missing anything?
EDIT:
Hmmmm I've just downloaded the official 4.2 from sumvision... I guess thats the best it will ever get... bit clunky but usable... I wonder if there is a kernel I can flash...?
I had a problem flashing CM10 over the newer stock rom with 500mb system. The only way I managed it was to go back to the earlier stock rom and remove stuff from the CM10 rom to get it to fit on the smaller system partition. It was a while ago, sorry if that's not much help...
Good luck!
Cheers

[Q] Indipad 10" Unblock or ROM

Hi, just recently some student tablets started to drop in my shop with problems, the latest one was an Indipad 10" made by LGS Caribbean, that is ALL the info I know about it since there are no labels anywhere in the tablet or the box, my guess is a generic Chinese re-branded tablet and it looks like is running ICS 4.0.1 but can't be sure since is locked with a number password. The client brought the tablet in cause her child was playing with it and activated the password screen lock and of course the child doesn't remember what he typed in. :silly:
I'm either looking to unlock the tablet, factory reset it or re-flash stock rom.
I already tried using the volume +/-/power combo for the recovery but it takes me to the android boot error screen, so I guess it has no recovery installed or it was deleted on purpose by the company. Also tried entering a lot of failed passcodes to see if it brings the account recovery option, but is a no go.
Did a Google search to see if I could also find a rom to flash on it but since I'm limited on the info about it nothing has come up.
Many thanks for any help.
No one?
Same thing right here. But i can tell you it is running android 4.0.4, and the build number is: crane_m1003h6-eng 4.0.4 IMM76D 20120921. Of course as you may know the 20120921 is the date so my guess is that it depends on how many updates those tablets have received already. Anyway, the recovery works, cus i have one in here working and you can access recovery from inside android(when you go to factory reset it gives you an option to do so, i did and it works perfect). But again just like you said, It wont work using hardware buttons. I was trying to find someone who can contact me from LGS Carribean but no luck at all. Just nothing, i have a working INDIPAD at this moment and thats how im telling you whats the firmware version and build. Like you said on your post, its an issue dealing with generic tablets it really is. I have not found even a similar enough firmware for the tablet to flash, but i can confirn you can use LiveSuitPack to flash them. Only issue is that i havent found a firmware to do so lol.... And ive look just about everywhere. Im going to run USB deview to check what the real hardware is and brand, if im able to find something ill let you know M8
Many thanks, client called in today and told her I'm still looking for a solution. Will wait for what you find.
Did you get this resolved?
Not yet, @home atm, so I'll check tomorrow for an update.
Seems we still on the black
Yes we are, so far i can tell you the processor is an A10, so its an A10 device. It shows as T10a for manufacturer, but so far thats all i can tell you. There might be a way to pull the firmware image from a working Indipad so that we have something to flash on the password protected ones. But for now, we are all waiting on something
Have same issue

My mother-in-law is an English teacher and has several students with the same issue with a password they forgot or they locked the tablet on accident. I haven't been able to factory reset, but when you mentioned T10a, a quick Google search led me to show that EKEN makes T10a tablets.
I hope I'm not leading you down a rabbit trail, but here is their support site with manuals and firmware downloads
Also, searching on XDA apparently there is a way to get CWM on the EKEN T10a and instructions to flash to their latest ROM.
I haven't had a lot of experience with flashing ROMs, but I have flashed my personal devices before. So please let me know if this is possible in any way. I wouldn't want to mess something up. Well, I hope this helps.

Sweet, I'll do a hardware comparison tomorrow with EKEN T10a and see if they are identical devices (at least from the outside), if they match I'll just try that. The device is a brick atm so it doesn't matter trying to experiment with it.

Awesome! I'm so glad I was able to help. I will go ahead and get mine done.
Its funny, but i have that firmware on my computer. Didnt even know why before this post. Now that i see your posts i realize i have flashed those tablet before using Eken firmwares lol.... Thanks a lot guys
What firmware worked for you? Im asking because i downloaded one of them and when i try to turn the tablet on it will keep booting up and wont flash the new firmware.

The one for T10A, version "T10 G-SENSOR6225".
I also had a bit of a problem at first trying to boot it into flash mode, but what I did was go to the device manager in Windows and saw that there where 2 copies of the special driver that the "LiveSuitPack_version_1.09_20111101.exe" installs, one with the checkmark like they said, the other I assumed was the tablet connected, so I deleted the one with checkmark and tried again, this time it went through and started the flashing process which took less than 2 minutes.
Straight after attaching the cable, and whilst still holding down the volume+ button, start pressing the tablet power button repeatedly. This (slightly frenzied) procedure puts the tablet into update mode.

That was the tricky part, to make it boot into flash mode, it has to be fast between connecting and starting to press the buttons, I took like a 1 second delay between the two things.
Also, got to point out I didn't do the CWM or the root mod, just did the firmware flash cause that's what the client wanted.
Its allright buddy, and thanks. Thing is that i was trying to update it as it said on the Ekken website. But the tablet didnt accept the SdCard update at all. I told you it should be done using LiveSuit and yet i was afraid of bricking the device using LiveSuit ha ha.... Thanks a lot guys, case solved. It took all of us to do so but hey, we made it!!!!

Their server is kinda slow but I use Free Download Manager to download big files and speed up the download.
Also remember this was an experiment and it worked by chance, so no guarantee that it will for every indiPad out there, specially if the manufacturer changes the hardware, you should check the hardware info on the tablet just to make sure we are talking about the same tablet model or you could brick your device.
thanks bro, i know about rom experimental, i think same tablet from Puerto Rico, indiPAD, same eken t10a.
Can you tell me please what file worked on your tablet? i see some files

t10_3axis_7660.rar 208078 KB

And maybe possible did backup rom from working tablet too. If you can and have one piece we can dump rom.

t10_2axis_6225.rar is the one I used.
The only working tablet I had was the one flashed, the client already picked it up yesterday, so sorry.
