FFC on vibrant, can we do it?

^hes got a mod for the FFC on the vibrant, anyway this can be done on the captivate?

ive searched on google and everywhere says its possible for the vibrant, so why not for us??? its the same hardware in both phones...

The answer is no. Why do you need to know why? Physically, the phone is different. The outer shell is different, the inner casings are different, search the forums on google. There are topics on this.

It's the same case as flashing a vibrant stock rom on your cappy. Basically it wont work and it is the proof for hardwares not being the same.

You guys/gals are a bunch of negative nancy naysayers.
I did it a while back and posted my pic to prove it.
Mod closed the thread as it was a dupe, but i think it should stay open to show everyone what can be done if you put your mind to it.
Just because our phone has no place for a camera inside, and no connections on the motherboard is no reason to say it can't be done.

BTW - it could use a little improvement - I am thinking about using a sharpie to color the tape black so you won't see it. Maybe then add a belt clip on the back. Oh, and cutouts for the sensors.

In other news, I am thinking we can REALLY fix our craptastic GPS reception with an external bluetooth GPS receiver..... thanks for the idea to think external alphadog00! (or has someone already done that?......)

I think someone tried it and it worked. I have an external receiver somewhere - had it for my Moto Q - not sure where it is though. But yes it has been done. It would be interesting to compare the difference - is it the phone and some blocked thread, or is it the GPS receiver in the phone, software, etc.?
I need to see if i can find mine.....
When Froyo actually comes out for the i9000 - officially - we might get some answers.

Motherboard Problem/Broken by ME :S

Hi to everyone whats up i have some Q and i think this is for DEV section, here is the tHing i opened my phone to clean it all and i have make ONE BIG mistake i acidently broke two small peaces ( look at picture i marked it with red circle and here is link to biger picture so you can see beter http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/nvbKG1sC1T3xY66q.huge ). Now all work fine but Camera, actually it is working butt when i take picture it doesn't save picture it just show me a gray instead of PIC and just FC/Camera stop working and funny thing is when i use camcorder it works and make a movie and after stop it also close cam FC/etc BUT IT SAVES MOVIE and i cam watch it so PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT PIC AND PLEASE A LEAST IF YOU KNOW WHAT THIS PARTS IS I MEAN WHAT IS THE NAME OT THEM WRITE IT DOWN ON THREAD OR PM ME SO I CAN FIND THEM OR TAKE THEM FROM OTHER MOBO AND SOLDER THEM TO MY MOBO AGAIN THANKS ALLOT

hehehe nope am on my own on this thing as a can see and i didnt spend 3 hours on this and to not find and learn what to do NO WAY AM SMART GUY hehehe am IT Tec and not MOB tec but its almost the samE procedure just little smaller BUT I WILL TRY WITH HIM IF I FAIL

I was have the same problem with pictures (gray). I've renamed "DCIM" and "Camera" folders in SDCard for backup it, and pictures now works fine. Maybe you should try it, before do some hardware things .

If you already identified the component and have the necessary equipment (the thinnest solder iron and tweezer that you can find, as well as steady hands), all that's left is a good luck, man.

I HAVE TRIED THAT NO LUCK ahhahah and i know that i broke my board part so i only need to se which part it is and now i knoc couse my face front cam is working and camcoder also but primary cam wont save pic and there say that those broken pieces are for primary cam so i ONLY need to solder them back if some one have some god advice please write it down

Just solder them with a fine tip on a 15/30w soldering iron. Done it a few times, SMD components are small, but not impossible. Have something to hold the component down and a magnifying glass will help.

How about this:
Take a piece of copper wire about 1mm in diameter.
Wrap it around the soldering iron end.
Wait until it heats up enough.
Now you have your own micro-soldering iron!

Hmmm nice one but i have seen something like soldering paste you put it under smd and just put it in place and when you heat it up with hot air it solder hehe this one is best for small things like those

Hi again i have one problem more now i know what tipe of SMD are those two but i dont know on which to chose OK this small one is x5r 6.3-10v and biger one x7r is from 10-200v i think size of both are the same just this small one is gray and other is brown, but there is allot other parameters and i dont know which is the right one (here is the datasheet of those and please have a look and if you know which i need write it down thanks http://www.yageo.ru/pdf/HighCaps.pdf I REALLY NEEEEEED MY CAMERA hahahaha)CAN I JUST TAKE THEM BY THIS INFO THAT I HAVE NOW IS THAT ENOUGH

You really shouldn't be playing around with the motherboard if you aren't 100% sure what you're doing. But seeing as you already have, the best bet would be try contacting Samsung and if if they'll fix it under warranty. Just be sure not to say that YOU messed with it. Just put everything back to where it was and make it look like you didn't open it or touch it. I just got mine back from warranty for a faulty motherboard so I know they can replace it easy.

hmmm as you can imagine this phone i a bit old hehehe so... and am IT so i have done this allot on comp mobos and other electronic stuff but now i dont know which tipe of those smds i need and when i find that i will solder them nice

HTC M8 GPS problem (hardware issue)

Hello, I have a problem. Hoping someone has an answer. I have a Verizon HTC M8, yesterday I decided to disassemble the phone to just see what the insides look like, I didn't touch any other part, I tried to remove the top motherboard but I stopped because any further would damange the top board. Anyways, the GPS was working fine until I took the unit apart.
The problem: GPS location on Google map is at least a block off (tried different map apps, all are offset) and is facing the wrong direction. And GPS following is very very slow. Now I don't know if it has to do with an GPS antenna or what, maybe one of the prongs is not touching antenna, I've taken a photo of the phone from inside and I would like to know which area of the phone is exactly the GPS or maybe causing the problem . I've also attached a photo of the GPS problem, you can see in Google Maps navigation the pointer is wayy off the direction area. Please advise.
Question: What part may be causing the problem? (my guess is its the copper prongs from A-G).

In my opinion, this phone has kind of wonky GPS reception anyway. It's hard to tell exactly what's causing it, but my guess is that it has something to do with an unwanted contact, or the antenna itself, touching the metal casing directly. Also, You may have possibly loosened the connection of the GPS antenna when you played with the motherboard a little.
I'll try to find some better board schematics from the motherboard, maybe tomorrow when I have time. I haven't really been able to find some good diagrams on the actual phone internals itself. This phone is really difficult to take off and not too many people attempt it.
I would try to make sure that the internals are properly shielded when you put the case back on, and try to keep all of those contacts covered as much as possible when you throw the case back on. See if you get better GPS lock or if it fixes it all together.
Edit: Actually I changed my mind, I think all those contacts are supposed to contact the case to amplify the signal. Try to get all the contacts to touch the case as much as possible when you reassemble it. I think it's either the connection from a-g area, or on the bottom half k-n or even the q connector. Is your WiFi or NFC giving you any issues as well?

@ Badusername, Thank you for your reply . Yes everything else (wifi/nfc/bluetooth) works perfectly fine. The accelorometer seems to be fine as well. Only part I try to remove/touch was from A-G area motherboard but that was held with adhesive so I didn't touch it any further, I didn't touch any other part. My guess is it's A-G area but not sure exactly which one is the GPS antenna so I can try to adjust it (if possible).

I jave the exact same problem. Did you figure anything out yet?

Same thing here had to pop the case to replace the volume button now gps will not get a fix, everything else working fine, any updates?

Did you bend any of the copper prongs so that they no longer touch their antenna? That's usually the problem.

Not sure which prongs you speak of. I reopened it and all antennae look connected and right but still no go...

Can't find a schematic anywhere that shows which antenna or prongs are gps related so I don't know which prong or antenna to mess with. I'm surprised there are no basic schematics anywhere...

I believe it's in the top board so make sure the ribbon cable is secured and not damaged. The metal prongs usually need to make contact with the case itself which often has the actual antenna stuck to it.

Thanks for your help so far. Checked all prongs and ribbons on top left and they all look normal. They all still have a spring to them so that theyll touch the contacts on the back of the outside case. I'm out of options without finding exactly which part are gps related....

Is there any way to purchase the gold colored motherboard clips/pins that make contact with the case for the GPS module. While attempting to fix mine, the clip broke. I was looking to purchase this clip to attempt to solder it back to the board.

I'm in the same boat. I don't think there's a way to replace the clip itself, only the board that has the clip on it. It shows up as a result for "HTC One M8 Motherboard Flex Cable". Here's the one I'm buying, it's around $60. You can see the little gold tab in the picture for it. Looking at that board's location on the phone, it looks like you'd probably have to remove the motherboard to get to it and replace it. Sounds fun. I had my phone apart for a relatively simple USB port replacement.

I know this is raising the thread from death but I too broke my tab off for the gps. I was able to fix it using a trimmed piece of thin sheet aluminum that I salvaged from an old Airport extreme. I trimmed it down to the size of the tab on the motherboard and used some conductive adhesive to stick it to the solder pad that the old copper tab was attached to. I then trimmed to down to length to touch the casing when the phone was reassembled. Its been working great now for a few months and its actually a much sturdier piece of metal. I can't say objectively since I don't have data to back it up but it feels like I get a faster GPS lock now.

Nexus 5 screws

Can somebody help me finding replacement screws? I stupidly lost some while taking the device apart and cannot find them anymore. Can somebody provide me with a webshop link where I could buy them or the exact specifications? Are there any German retail stores which might have them in stock? So far I haven't had any luck

If you have access to other cellphones, the screws from the other phones may fit in the Nexus 5.

Sorry but this is a bit funny (no offense) but in my case it's opposite sometimes and i end up with left over screws.

No worries, none taken But how do you do that, they don't multiply by themselves
Now I actually followed the advise and took out some screws from an older phone. Hadn't thought that this would actually work. They're not perfectly identical but they fit well enough. Now I feel a bit stupid that I haven't come up with that idea. Thanks for the advise!

Core board component identification

I'm wondering if anyone knows what these are... I cant find any info anywhere on that particular SMD code. They're on the underside of a MTCD core board and there's a number of them. The burned one has something to do with the LCD backlight/dimming function, as this isn't working after a mishap that led to letting the smoke out. I believe they're either caps or diodes simce there's clearly a polarity marker on them, but I'm kinda at a loss and would really appreciate any light anyone could shine on my problem.

Yeah... I found that site as well. The issue is that there's only two conductors on these components and every part listed there has more. So it's definitely not any of those they have listed.
