And that's bad?
WinMo has fell so far behind, that I think manufacturers who are using anything but WinMo are doing themselves and their customers a favor. MS now wants us to use the pos WinMo 6.5 for another year while they continue to plan out their WinMo 7, while android and all the other OSs are moving ahead by leaps and bounds.
I'm seriously going to reconsider getting a phone with WinMo in the future. Its pathetic how hard it is to find a good application for anything on this OS. Can't even find a decent facebook app.
As stated on the title, I think it will be great if we can rip iphone apps to run in HD2. Just a suggestion please don't flame me

[iPhone like apps & tweaks build into WinMo]
Applications that can be found in iPhone which are developed or recreated for WinMo.
Doesn't matter with GUI or text interface as long as the idea is there for being creative.
I will try to compile all the 'iPhone like apps' in here which are developed for daily use.

It is impossible. 2 totally different operating system with 2 different file systems, 2 different control sets and 2 different sdk's.
The only way is if the developer makes the app for win mo.
if there was an emulator it would be not impossible...
True, but... I don't think this is gonna happen anytime soon.
I don't think an emulator is needed, I mean how many fart apps do you need??
espaleena why don't you just buy yourself an Iphone.
Sorry, but I can see so many useless messages coming from former Iphone owners on this HD2 sub-section... I am really fed up
i personaly would prefer to see an emulator of android. There are some nice apps that android has, such google map sky, google navigation and Layar. I know VMWare is working on a mobile virtualization but the solution is yet far away in time. But i have to say that an Iphone emulator would be nice also. There tons of apps and games that the Iphone has.

Too bad I'm not an iPhone fanboy, liking something from iPhone Apps doesn't mean I have to get or support iPhone frenzy.
From my perspective point of view, HD2 users can create cabs to emulate games like FPSece or Morphgear, so you see they can do something to make other things run on HD2. Please dont be stereotype arturobandini it's just a suggestion.
well i had a iphone myself, and it´s not a good phone. But some applications and games are very usefull and goodlooking. and with goodlooking i mean better than applications for the HD2. So if you never had a iphone stop talking about it. it´s like the same as people talking about the bible without reading it.
yep, in the bible, turns out God did it...hope haven't ruined the ending for anyone. Can't see an emulator for Iphone as you normally need 5-10 times the power of the emulated item for good emulation and the HD2 is good but not that good. Would love some augmented reality stuff for it though, which the iphone has...
For what is reported here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee355030.aspx#portAmpConclusion if application developers want, it's not that hard to port iphone applications to windows mobile.
There is no way you can emulate iPhone OS or Android on the HD2. Emulation means you need a much more powerful hardware. The games for iPhone OS require pretty much the same hardware the HD2 has. Emulation is not possible.
You can only port them. But you would have to do it for each application and it seems very few developers are interested in porting their games to WM.
The other way would be to be able to boot that OS on your windows phone. It was actually possible on other phones like the Kaiser or the Polaris to boot Android natively.
i dont know if its possible to accomplish dual boot. One thing is get a Android Rom to HD2, but dual boot i dont know.
what about triple boot, me like

Thx for the info mamv, after reading the website it seems possible to port
iPhone apps that's downloadable in the Apps Store to HTC. We just need some experts to do it.

Yeah there are some nice apps & games in iPhone.
As I believe HD2 can do more then what people might think,
running PSX games - possible
running SEGA / Gameboy / others - possible
running iPhone downloaded apps - I'm sure it is possible.

did you really read this article? and did you also understand whats neccessary to "port" an application? you need at least the sourcecode to do so! just downloading a various app and then say "ok, i'll port it" doesn't work
if the developer is willing to port (re-code) an app, then nearly every app can be ported, from nearly every system!
HD2 is a powerful device, the i-phone NO!
Hadware 's HD2, and not just hadware has no comparison to the i-phone, which is nothing but a cell phone more evolved than others and certainly not a PocketPC (say SMARPHONE AN ALMOST, ALMOST! SINCE MAY INSTALL APLICATIONS)
.. was Publicize properly and the people I have to buy, just for curiosity !!... made the news ..... few know the real smatphone!
The developers do admire beautiful of games for the iPhone, Anvendelser per screen capacitive, g-sensor, etc. ...
Why not do the same thing for the HD2 ????... WHY HAS NOT ONLY BEHIND THE BISNES who made the I-PHONE .. ALL HERE.
I-Phone bought many years and many will buy his aplicativo .... simple!
Now with HD2 hope someone aplicativo to invest more powerful and appropriate for this smartphone with the "S" capital ...
.. the people who bought the i-phone has noticed everything that does or fails to do ...

Not true: the iPhone has much more powerful Open GL capabilities than the HD2 thanks to that custom PowerVR chip, the HD2 just isn't anywhere near powerful enough to emulate any iPhone software as all it has is raw horsepower. Just because the HD2 has a faster processor does not mean it is holistically 'better' - the iPhone hardware (particularly that of the 3Gs) is very powerful from a mobile graphics standpoint at least. The HD2 can barely cope with Windows Mobile centric apps for a whole day without crashing or lagging, and just look how much much smoother pinch to zoom is on Safari than Opera... the idea that it could emulate an iPhone app is insane, although I really would like it to be true as unfortunately I'm a big social networking and IM user and sadly Windows Mobile lags depressingly behind iPhone and Android in this respect - mainly owing to the embarrassing Windows Marketplace and a lack of definition and development pushing from Microsoft.

I didn't say things will be easy porting apps from iPhone to HD2 nor it
is impossible, the main thing is that it's possible to do it.
I do not think ...
But you have a HD2? ... Or you have AI-phone "phone"?
what you say is true only in part ..
I do not doubt that Mac has a duty ottomizato the requirements to run good games, but you can not compare with a PocketPC-phone forefront as HD2 ...
HD2 has everything in the I-Phone and much more ... then if windows is a bit limited in something, just because it does not only turn the games, but all or almost do it with a PC desktop laptop!!
Understand? is not a console but could also make the console, the I-Phone not know ...
my friends at I-Phone does not do many things ... you must carry it behind the PC!
I'm sure the games they play for I-PHONE HE CAN DO EVEN FOR WINDOWS, NOW WITH HD2 ONE CAN SAY YES!
The next
Hi all...
Can anyone offer suggestions here?
I have an N900 (with 48GB of memory)... I used to own an HD2 but sold it as it had a dead pixel and that kind of thing bugs me.
I am in the situation where I can swap my N900 for a nice new HD2.
What to do? What will be better long term, Win7Phone ROMs coming to HD2? MeeGo to N900?
I love the browsing abilities of the N900, but lack of notifications and apps designed for the native screen size.
I love the HUGE screen on the HD2, like the slim design, but it lacks the built in memory, so would need to buy a 32GB microSD when it comes out. Is there a Spotify client?
Looking to do the deal tomorrow so your thoughts would be appreciated.
Paul.
you can use myspot as a spotify client on the HD2 and is so so so so much faster with it's 1GHz processor.

OK sounds good... I'm guessing it wouldn't be as "pretty" as the official Android and iPhone apps?
And is it free?
Of course Leo!!
WM OS above any Nokia OS
how about a desire?...with same/better specs than hd2,more friendly OS and android 2.2 coming (which is by the way 2-5 times faster than the current version) i personally think those two don't stand a chance...
and of course nokia sucks...imo
edit: oh sorry i missed the sentence when you said that only those two are on table....i personally don't prefer nokia at all, especially not over htc...especially the one with that caliber
HD2 if only for the capacitive screen.
Stick with HTC and gain all the valued info of XDA

I couldn't sacrifice the drop in storage as I carry all my music on my device, along with movies and audiobooks with space to spare.

I'm sorry marduk.
But how can I play all my music and videos without compromise on the move with an HD2?
N900 if u want/expect for MeeGo. N900 wins too in Games, don´t in number but in potential. What is means? Now with PR 1.2, n900 uses the QT 4.6, the same as the new Symbian ^3. So, for developers its easy port games that make in Symbian to Maemo. For now it´s promise 10 games, so far but when N8 comes may be this number goes high. Android comes (by community) to N900, as well its possible (better at the moment than HTC HD2).
HTC HD2, if u want a big and capacitive screen and the possibility to put a lot of ROMs on it, to turns your experience more personal. But WinMO doesn´t provide nothing to use this hardware... And MS, does **** with WinMO 7 so, for me it´s a very bad business.
If u need help with Maemo i´m here, u are don´t alone.
Thanks viperbruno.
I think I'll be a lot more happy when they actually relaunch the OVI store for the N900 with Angry Birds and Zen Bound etc... This was meant to happen yesterday but still waiting!!
I guess I just miss the gorgeous display and the joy of watching videos and reading texts on the HD2. I wish they made 32+GB microSD cards.
OK... back on the idea of changing my N900 to an HD2 / Nexus One. That is my current option.
What are your thoughts on if / when Windows Phone 7 or Android coming to the HD2 versus MeeGo coming to the N900?

Official what coming:
HTC HD2 - nothing
Nokia n900 - Meego as well (September the final version, beta at July) but without any support from Nokia. Better that nothing.
Unofficial:
HTC HD2 - XDA could make WinMO 7 for with but don't expect a lot from it, it's just my opinion...
Nokia N900 - Could be everything and nothing at the same time, but I have see on Internet that Nokia will turn off Symbian from nseries, and put Meego on it, so I think that is possible to expect a lot from it. To know: Nokia N8 is the last model (from nseries) with Symbian.
My suggestion: Wait a little. HTC will realise new "Pro" models - rumor: a HTC HD2 pro edition - Nokia haves something to say in Augustus (with Symbian ^3 and QT 4.6, it turns easy to port apps to Maemo)...
Google acquired BumpTop and their 3D desktop.
Judging from the leaked Android 3.0 video, this won't make it into Honeycomb.

I don't know about the "room" concept, trading walls for panel slides.
Would take some time getting used to, but some features look nice.

I think a bumptop type of layout on an android tablet would be awesome!
I have this on my windows 7 workstation and LOVE it! i just wish it were a touch!!!
Looks cool. I want it.
Hello,
I'm getting a free Blackberry Playbook, I know it runs on QNX OS, but is their away to put Honeycomb on it, seeing as it has no physical buttons.
I want a 7 inch tablet, and the Galaxy Tab and Flyer(wi-fi) is not doing it for me, seeing how the Playbook is 1.0Ghz dual core, it will keep up with every one else.
Plus the fact Android on BB would be pure swagger.
Iv spent 3 hours researching it and all i get is the fact that their porting apps.
Thanks

Since Google didn't release the Honeycomb source code, this task may be impossible.
but they will release for 4.0 ice cream sandwich... will then be someone who will be brave enough to unlock the device and port android to BB?

Yeah, maybe.
Amazon has just released their kindle fire source code. I hope it helps porting playbook to android
http://kindle-src.s3.amazonaws.com/Kindle_src_6.2_11185402.tar.gz
Instead of posting in a new thread I will post here. Where can I find anything that would help me port android as an app to the playbook since the playbook as of now has a very secure boot mechanism. I have not tried to exploit it but from what I have seen QNX is insanely restrictive, you cant even read system logs. Is it even possible to port android as an app?
Afaik RIM added Android app support to the playbook?!
The classes are identical (j2me/java) so as a developer it shouldn't be to tricky to port it.
I'm asking about running android (the entire os) as an app. The android player wont do android native sdk among some other things so not all apps will run. I'm asking if its possible to for example take android and run it through a translation layer that will take calls to the gpu and just use opengl on the playbook to render things. So kind of like vm but specific to the device and version of android so its actually fast and not an emulator.
HC source code is released comparative with ICS one. You need a good experienced dev for that type of action.
Didn't think it was supposed to go on sale until Black Friday, but just left Best Buy. It's going for $199. Android and I'd buy quickly.
if you were lucky you could've picked up a 64gb playbook for $229 before tax at best buy.

how so? price mistake? please do tell.
edit:
Scratch that. I found it over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19519966
Looks like the price was either a mistake or they're out. Either way... we need some devs hacking this thing.
Does anyone know if qnx uses a bootloader/recovery layout like Android? I would be interested to know how much reworking of the firmware would be needed and even so, would it be possible?
Deleted. Wrong thread.
Got one also.
Great video quality, fast, QNX not so bad;
but
App Store a real disappointment.
RIM wants paid for Apps that are free on Android; big big fail!
There is a loader (PowerUp & Volume + and volume minus; hold for 20 seconds)
Hopefully some xda weeney will jump all over this thing.
Great hardware.
Actually faster than my Gtablet w/FB10 (which is great too)!
Picked up one when it went on sale, and has been playing around with it. hardware is nice, QNX is very smooth. The machine is a multi-tasking beast.
Some android apps work, but you have to convert it to a .bar file first. The process can be frustrating.
Apparently people have gotten android app market to work on the playbook through the app player; not exactly sure how it's done but this gives me some hope.
App World, on the other hand, subpar apps that offers a quarter the functionality of free apps on the android market have a price of >$2.99. I can't find a single decent e reader on the app world.
I'm also interested in for getting android to Playbook, even webos if it is possible...
Vote here for playbook forum,

ICS is now out and so is the source so who wants to start hacking it?
It can be found on their site. I wanted to put a link in here but I am to much of a newbie.
