With every fifth post being some sort of claim about the release of froyo for captivate, How will we ever know when it happens for real?
So if you were to stumble across the real release, How would you title your thread????
Lol. This ought to be good...
If it becomes official
1. At &t will announce it.
2. Every android site would announce it.
3. This forum will go nuts with everyone putting [official] in the title.
4. Custom ROM users would be laughing at the quality of it.
But till then keep the dream alive.... I like your optimism.

Something along the lines of hell freezing over....
My title would start with [yawn]

If it happens before St. Patrick's Day, I would expect the title to also have news of Mikey Mike's heart attack.

Speaking of that, what happened to your signature, no more patrick's day betting?
Well, I for one, could care less if/when they release it ... I think the devs around here can use some portions of it to further improve the ROMs we're seeing. I'm sure that there are quite a few people who have cappys, and don't even know what XDA Developers is, that should be very excited should it ever be released.
I'm on Andromeda 2.1 with the Speedmod K13 kernel and everything is great.
But to answer the question as to how we'll know when it's out? ... Your Mom will have it on her phone.
I predict AT&T will announce their official plans for froyo and eventually gingerbread for the captivate on April 1st.
I would troll it like this
"Attention folks wanting Froyo from ATT"

I stopped caring about an official froyo release the day I learned to flash roms on my cappy.
"Hey Samsung why u no froyo teh captivate till now yo? Why no gingerbread heh?
The day we get Froyo.... is the day they make an LG Env with froyo for all the preteen girls who want to text their BFF Jill without needing a lagfix. We're such a low percentage of the customer base.
4/5 captivate owners I know don't even know what froyo is.
Getting it out there isn't quite a main concern of AT&T right now, what with their unveiling of newer, shinier Pantech phones with lower specs than the ones before it. T_T

Yeah, most of the people that really want Froyo just flash their phones. Why would AT&T/Samsung bother paying someone to make a working build when their customers will do it for free? The only reason AT&T will release Froyo and Gingerbread updates would be to prevent their customers from using tethering and AP for free. Speaking of which, I need to donate to Team Komin
Let's stay on topic here....
This is a serious thread... lol
The day that froyo releases somebody will start a thread with the name:
It's Finally here! Froyo has arrived [Official]
And then all the trolls will spam the thread with their WE WANT GINGERBREAD trolling. So I guess it's the day the world explodes..
Something like "Holy crap, Froyo is out for cappys. No really, it is, seriously, not a joke, look for yourself. Ah forget it"

Did you know your Sprint Hero will be getting Eclair early next year? Well...now you do! Happy Friday ladies and gents
I don't think anyone was questioning if. Its when.
yea, i wasnt ever concerned whether we were going to get the update, but rather the time frame in which we would.
confirmatory tweets are always welcomed though
Looks like it won't be for several months.

Might as well have just said "it'll come out eventually", haha.
Hahahaha
Lets see 1H 2010, ususally the updates run about 2 time periods behind when they say that they will be available... so looking somewhere around 1H2011...
By that time, the development work for 2.1 here in XDA-Developers will already be done and all of us will be looking forward to the next release.
I wonder why the Moment is being held up on the 2.0 release, when it's just vanilla Android. I really didn't think they were going to give us that broad of a timespan though. I figured January would be the latest that we'd have 2.0. So unless Google makes some changes, there's a good chance we won't be using their newest apps for a long time (officially anyway). By the time we get 2.0, Droid will be running 4.5 .
as long as we get 2.1 here first and i can brag about it for a whole before anyone else has it, im happy lol.

I love Sprint, and my Hero, but let's be real.... almost every Android phone on the market will be LIGHT YEARS ahead of us if it takes more than a couple months at most.
While I agree that it isn't cool to toy around with us...specially since we'll still be behind when the update hits most likely. But still...I don't think that not getting an update warrants hopping the fence haha.

I think it's a perfect reason to hop the fence, show sprint that we want our updates, we can't do anything on 1.5 .. no nav, no goggles, nothing new and exciting, i'm fed up and i would rather start over with a new phone.. than wait for sprint to get off their lazy behinds and feed us something that should have been out already

Or keep your eyes peeled for the 2.0-ish roms we have in the works here, there's a decent chance we'll be fully up and running by the time the other phones get their official update. So... who do you think is in the lead now, HTC devs or Sprint? My $ is still on you guys. God only knows how long the testing phase will actually be.
Shall we make a thread for all of us to drool over the thoughts of custom roms coming soon? i think yes . I think that the roms id like to see a version of in gingerbread would have to be Firefly,di11igaf,Cognition and paragon. That would be AWESOME! Could you imagine that awesome FireFly theme on GingerBread....DOWANT. What about you guys? Lets have soemthing to talk about until those roms start pourin out from all the freakin awesome devs here.

Why the attitude, the guy is just simply trying to avoid cluttering the forum. A simple "Ohh I didn't know, thanks for pointing out" should have been enough. Why are people so deffensive?. I missed the old WM days.
Thread closed and will closed other threads with the same topic, posted today, tomorrow or a year ago... simple as that.
Kinda curious what's going on here. Seems since mid-June there hasn't been much progress made on Infuse ROMs\mods. Is it that the phone is being somewhat swept under the rug in the shadow of the SGS II or is there just a bit of a waiting game to see if we'll get Gingerbread, or is the phone just not popular enough to develop for? From those I've talked to at @T&T, they say it's still their hottest phone as of July 1... so not sure why so quiet on here. Maybe it's just that since it's great out of the box people aren't as compelled to work on it?

I do think it's a combination of both the things you mentioned - a shadow of the SGS 2 coming up, as well as Gingerbread official release for the Infuse releasing anytime now. Even though I recently brought mine and personally love this phone, I am super curios to see SGS 2 in every day use. That massive home button format that Samsung has implemented, and done away with the search button which I've barely used 2wice ever, is sure to make it a better experience.
But I do think it's a bit premature to say that Development is dead for the Infuse. The 3 main ROM's are still being tweaked and fine tuned, voodoo sound and lag fix has been implemented, and some sort of stop-gap functional hulu is also working for some who've tried. All this for a phone that's barely a Month and a half old. Not bad I'd say.

whoa whoa.. cool your jets turbo! nobody attacked you. and where do you get off saying i attack every response? all i've done was defend myself in this thread. and i think i speak for most people who grow tired of seeing the same questions asked in multiple threads.. this is old news. your question has been asked many times already. my initial response was not meant to be offensive, but had you taken my advice you would've found your answer.
not to many simple features that we dont have already, other features may take a lot more development. you can make requests if you can think of some. i have been able to run the same rom for weeks without the obsessive need to flash the next new thing. i havent had that since andromeda on the captivate and that ended with the release of 2.3.3 i9000 based roms.
if we could get a kernel like glitterballs had on the captivate that used gpu hardware acceleration on the home screen and in all apps that would be cool but he never posted sources and it seemed to have issues with errors on ext4 but worked great if converted to jfs. i had my phone underclocked with that kernel and the battery lasted for days!. it also had unmatched boot up times.

I'm sure Bradbusa only said that because, from posts, devs are holding off because it would be pointless to develop these roms at this point. Devs have said in a few threads that they'd hate to work on too much, just for them to have to re-do everything for gingerbread.
Bradbusa could have offered a bit more, but I can say my first thought was to type what he said when I first saw the thread. Glad he stepped in that landmine and I didn't.

Maybe I'm just too new to Android - but the Infused ROM is a fine piece of work that leaves you wondering, where to next? Others are probably right in that Gingerbread is the next step - a step much easier if we just wait for a leak or the Rogers phone.
I'm just hoping our devs stick around that long It seems like Android users upgrade phones pretty quickly...
Our devs will stick around. Everyone just needs to stop asking for ETA's and posting threads just like this one. Learn to chill out and wait OR learn to code and help the development process.
Have a happy 4th!

Great ROMS, have a couple of questions...
I dropped (and broke) the display on my Euro sgs2. I am going to order a replacement panel, but not sure how to get a genuine samsung replacement. Cannot find anything online. Got any advice?
Do you have any insight on when the ATT version will be released? did I miss the release date...cannot find it online
Running Cog on the old standby Captivate
I remember when I got my captivate on Christmas, the 1st rom I ever flashed on it was cognition and I was in love, hopefully when I get rid of my crappy evo 3D I'll join you in the SGS2 forums

Well, the SGS2 is supports LTE, at least the AT&T version will, and they are launching LTE this sunday(18th) and they said the SGS2 would come in the third quarter, which ends at the end of this month.
They always release big phones on Sunday, so that means we will get it on the 18th or the 25th.

You can't have ice cream until you're done eating yogurt. When you're full, you can have gingerbread. After gingerbread, you can trade it in for a Captivate and put ice cream on it.
Or just buy a phone that is actually supported by samy... Us Infusers are just going to be perpetually left out of the freezer... No sammiches for us
problem around here is the developers never wanted to work with what we have. froyo alone has a ton of potential left in it but with Sammy dangling gb in our faces the devs that made the infuse what it is just got to a point that it was a waiting game and they got tired of waiting. I think the best plan is to work with what we have and make the most out of it. stop jerking around wanting what's not there and just make the most of what is there. froyo on the galaxy s was miles beyond the infuse to the point I was uneasy about upgrading to gb on my cappy.
infuse owners have to realize the infuse has an expiration date. next time get an international flasgship or something closely related to it, that or a nexus where you will have updates for several years coming.

infuse owners have to realize the infuse has an expiration date. next time get an international flasgship or something closely related to it, that or a nexus where you will have updates for several years coming.

Hey, everyone, I just thought I'd help translate some jargon for the n00bz ... It'd look amateur without it, like a map without a color key, you know?
around here: xda-developers.com, one website and, really, only a little section of it.
froyo: three versions ago in the operating system of topic
jerking around wanting what's not there: asking for current software (...the nerve!!)
sammy: Samsung Electronics Co., or its $220bn parent company Samsung Group (total 2010 revenue)
dangling gb: Samsung's apparent plans to produce, release, and support Android v.2.3, Gingerbread ("gb")
cappy: Samsung Captivate, released July 2010 in U.S.
"froyo ... miles beyond the infuse" : Unintelligible
Okay, I hope I did a good job. Now, if the n00bz keep asking questions, we can do them the service of making our language transparent! Why they won't just get it is astounding... I mean, who would ask questions about new software, anyway?? Just blows my mind... and who could make the mistake of thinking there might be a straight answer about something promising, that is, the new practical features of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android v.4) on a forum dweller's tongue is just plain offensive! Enduring such ignorance is hard, but I suppose it's a must. Live & let live... keep up the tolerance, fellow Infusers.
point taken I guess. what is annoying is the xda moderators have 2 search engines. on is xda wide Google assisted and the other is forum/thread based, not only that but when you create a new thread it suggests threads on similar topics you should read before posting the thread right in your face. yet this will not be the last ics request or "is it available" thread... but I wasn't gonna go there.
as far as ics. it needs a really talented dev to find ways to interface the proprietary stuff from gb to ics. even if we got a bootable version it would possibly be months before it was usable as more than a music player. the galaxy s is very lucky to have a number of talented devs and a closer relationship to the nexus s. even though the rom end could be taken from the galaxy s the kernel would be a big undertaking due to different GPS, Bluetooth, radio, screen, and other componants.
Hm .. lots to think about, there .
Holding these abandoned devices in your hand makes you pine daily for updates on developers' progress toward what would appear to be inevitable. If it isn't, it is a commercial atrocity
By "interface," there, do you mean device emulation or rewritten device drivers? i'm attempting to assess the nature of the challenge, less so its magnitude. i do appreciate both this and the frustration with lazy users.

it could be emulation or I guess some kind of wrapper. like how Linux can use windows wifi drivers on a PC. driver rewrites need source code and/or documentation I would think.
I don't know the technical details but I know entropy has brought up things that have changed that may be hard to port. maybe if the cm9 team actually had an infuse. they have some real talent but the problem is getting it in the hands of an interested member of the team.
we lucked out with Linux bozo but I don't think its typical for a device to get a cm port without the cm team having involvement if the kernel is unique. on many older HTC phones kernels are somewhat cross compatible so those phones are a little more able to share development.
who releases kernels
! Who is responsible for developing/releasing kernels ???
For ics, no one

If someone could come to us, then it would be great. I was thinking maybe we could get DA_G to come over, except idk if he would want to deal with such hard hardware. And to people saying cm9, we do not necissarily need that. Any kind of aosp would be nice.

I know but come on really, I mess around with what others build and I have also have a sky, I don't submit my stuff because frankly half the time it sucks, and I don't have the time to mess with bugs, I've been building rom since windows 5.1 and I can tell you that ics would suck on this phone, not enough ram, yes you can do it but, it would suck

I know it can, but it seems pointless, but I guess we are here to test, so I was wrong in my comment
