Now that everyone is happy to get root back. What do you think the next big thing coming for this phone is.

I want to see something like OpenArena get ported :-D, or some game that actually uses the 3D power on this jawn!! Pref FPS and using the accelorameter.
Anyways, good looks to everyone who helped in getting this going, I was stuck with an unrooted rc30 for a minute!! thanks!!!

When I get time, I want to play around and see if any emulators can run and access the framebuffer without going through Java.
Plenty of the major console emulators (nintendo, sega, arcades, neo-geo, etc.) have been compiled to run on ARM processors already (GP2X/GP32). I'd love to see them on a G1, tho it might take doing the Debian thing to get to where they'd actually work.

More apps being developed that require root, (Home Today Screen) like WinMo....
Someone should just write out a list of things to do after root.

I'm a little disappointed* that the pace of things is going so slow. I don't recall the timeline but when the iPhone was hacked, there were little programs popping out all over the place as people recompiled things for the OS.
*I'm not a programmer so I'm not going to tell others how to do their work. I presume native apps are coming and I'll be grateful when they get here at whatever pace.

What about flash? Iphone has a little app that lets them use flash. When's ours coming?

Our google friends are working hard we are developing a lot of thing at the moment if you hop on irc once in a while it filled with devs. G1 it juss take time u got to wait. I been trying to get copy and paste ported but it need to developed in the sdk better. I am also porting touchflo to g1, well a knock off verison lol.

I would like to see desktop widgets. Like an RSS reader, weather forcasts, and music player.

Is it really though? Granted, while we will all eventually get it, would you know if it was being pushed OTA right this second? Historically, one or two people got the OTA update and they announced it.
However, now that everyone has OTA blocked (minus the people that don't bother and also don't frequent boards)...who is going to tell us if Google doesn't post something up the very second it is available?

then youll have to wait a few days.

There's alway the question of the dev phones. No OTA update for them anyway, and google is going to tell the devs to upgrade their phone. There will probably be some kind of announce on android-development mailing lists as well.
Don't worry, we'll know, one way or the other

Our updates are blocked really? I honestly wondered if our phones downloaded the updates then tried installing the update or it sends the keys then updates. But the answer is not that important to search. As for things being done I believe Jf recompiled busybox from 1.8 mb to 700k and linked it to the system. That's a big step forward

No need to apologize, if you are unhappy just return it.
There's no way in hell I will be sending mine back. I got my TP2 for $129 ($199 citigroup deal and successfully double-dipped with the $70 credit for extending my SERO contract for two years). There is also a possibility for the $100 rebate. I will make money on this upgrade when I sell my diamond.
TP2, SERO...You will only take this phone out of my cold, dead hands.

I can understand some of the frustration. I think what he may have been referring to is that people are reposting comments from the team with "promises" of a deadline for releasing the unlocker and that deadline comes and goes.
I have seen these "deadlines" come and go several times and I am to the point that I just ignore them and assume they are inaccurate. Just like the latest deadline of this weekend, I will believe it when I see it.
I am in no way insulting or being negative toward any person so if you decide to take anything I have said that way and flame me, I will politely ignore it.

Wow dude. I got this phone knowing I was going to have to wait a long time before the unlocker would be out. Fortunately for us, this phone works far better in it's stock configuration than the Touch Pro did.
I just check in once a week or so just to see if there's any word. I was pleasantly surprised to see on PPCG last night that the unlocker is coming this weekend. And hey, if it doesn't, no big. My phone works.

What's this unlocking? And is it for the verizon tp2?

The unlocking is to allow us to put a WinMo 6.5 ROM on our Sprint CDMA Touch Pro 2. I am not sure if it is for the verizon TP2 or not.

The Unlocker will work on any CDMA Touch Pro2 thats out and possibly some that haven't been released yet, i.e. US Cellular

So by saying it was supposed to be out tomorrow yesterday... Does that mean that it was supposed to be out today yesterday? I mean, this is just down right confusing.
I am so tired of people crapping on this phone because it only runs 6.1 - with T-Flo does it matter? I guess if you are running the stock today screen, 6.5 will be a huge improvement.
My question as a software tester is, how many apps are going to be backwards compatible with 6.5 on this device. We already have a shortage of WVGA apps that work perfectly on it, so now we want to update the device to something newer with less software available? Just my 2 cents!

I rarely ever post I'm much more of a lurker. I just want to say that I am very excited to get my Pro2 spl unlocked and try out what's in the kitchen. AND I'm very grateful to the devs that help make our phones pwn, they'll get some of my coin for it fo' shizle.

It surprises me that people are so impatient for the HSPL.
The stock roms with even minor tweaks and software add-ons is actually really good. (Verizon and Sprint)
Anyone who says 6.5 is a big deal to have it stretching the truth. The only real advantage of the cooked ROMs is having new versions of TF3D and less pre-installed software. Other than that it's not so amazing that it makes the phone so much better from the stock roms.

you're absolutely right. i was amazed at how smooth the stock rom was for the sprint device -- easily the best "out of the box" experience i've ever had.. the custom ROM's are just icing on the cake -- i'm looking forward to having sense ui on my tp2, it's so prettyyyy..

I bought a full price mytouch to work on (and then remorse) as my cheap one came from my friend. The cheap one was supposed to be delivered today but nothing came to my door. I have to return the mytouch I currently have in my possession to T-Mobile.
I'm going to contact UPS tomorrow.

I'd be willing to make a donation to help replace it - I don't have a lot but if it would help?

This is exactly the kind of crap that's bringing these forums down. A handful of devs make stuff for a phone, and thousands of people follow. Nobody is willing to do anything for themselves anymore. So you're going to return your phone(which is a fantastic phone by the way), because somebody isn't going to make themes and there won't be a bajillion different roms available?
I first started with xda back in the day when I had my t-mobile SDA. I got ahold of an mda with a then unreleased WM6 rom from a microsoft mvp and I uploaded it to xda. I made a few windows mobile roms for myself and shared them in the forums. And I modified some apk's in the nexus one forums. I don't just 'know' how to do this stuff. I learned it because I wanted to. I didn't wait for somebody to give me what I want. I did it for myself, and then I shared.
This is how it used to be at xda. Now it's just 'gimme gimme gimme'.

It's not even that for me, it's more that daunting feeling that something newer and better will come out shortly and I might regret not having waited. I'm not saying the Nexus S will be better, but it's intriguing enough that part of me thinks I should at least give it a try. No harm in comparing right? That's how I decided between the G2 and MT4G and boy am I glad I didn't settle for the G2. I realize how unsustainable and dissatisfying this attitude is since there will always be something "bigger and better" right around the corner, just can't help it

I'm not at all pissed. I'm sad. I'm sad that a forum that was once full of people willing to contribute is now full of people that are 'too busy'. Last week, I worked just under 50 hours, painted my kitchen, replaced the counter-tops, installed a new sink, faucet, and garbage disposal, painted the cabinets, pulled the motor from my motorcycle, cleaned the gutters, raked and mowed my lawn(last time for the season), picked up my 3 girls every day(like I do every day), made dinner every night(wife doesn't get home til after 6)....and guess what? I STILL found time to pull apart rosie.apk and started modifying xml's because people are getting excited now that the mytouch is rooted and I wanted to contribute.
You are NOT too busy. I can assure you of that.

Ya I hear you there. I get like that sometimes. But mainly because I just like gadgets. I bought the nexus one while I was watching their press release. I pressed the refresh button in my browser until the order page went live.
I too got the g2 when it came out, while it was a great device, I found that I didn't need the keyboard, and the added thickness that comes with it. So I traded it in for the mytouch.
The problem with these devices is that they're not THAT different from each other. They all have this or that little feature, but it's all the same underlying hardware. 1ghz cpu, bunch of ram, hd recording...blah blah blah. It gets old after a while. If my company didn't take over my phone contract and pay for my upgrade, I would have gladly kept my nexus one. To this day, it's still my favorite phone. It's just so damn solid.
The mytouch is similar in form, but without all the metal of the nexus, it's just not the same. Anyways, I forgot the point I was trying to make, but we have to tell my girls this all the time "you get what you get, and you don't get upset". You picked that device for a reason, now ride that ***** 'til the wheels fall off!

just my 2 cents i personally feel if cyanogen isnt handling the rom for the phone it never seems to get done the right way look at the vibrant i still think devs will make roms for it no disrespect to anyone..

I'm thinking of starting to mod this device, just not sure where to start looking for information. I've never messed with it much before, it's been years since I've done any programming and I've pretty much forgotten everything. But, I'm always willing to learn new things

Kmobs had a working CM6 besides camera and a couple of other features on his MT4G... it should all get sorted out and we will get CM6. Instead of complaining and resorting to another phone because it was out earlier and has CM6 already... Why not actually contribute by helping trying to work and mod the phone you picked and for that reason.

I remember when I got my captivate on Christmas, the 1st rom I ever flashed on it was cognition and I was in love, hopefully when I get rid of my crappy evo 3D I'll join you in the SGS2 forums

Well, the SGS2 is supports LTE, at least the AT&T version will, and they are launching LTE this sunday(18th) and they said the SGS2 would come in the third quarter, which ends at the end of this month.
They always release big phones on Sunday, so that means we will get it on the 18th or the 25th.

I'll just have to wait and see if their LTE coverage will extend into my area. I'm usually on the fringe of the major carriers' big rollouts. I am also holding out hope that we'll see a Galaxy Note here in the US.

[Q] mytouch 4g......

Hi all. I'm jumping over to this forum due to the fact my vibrant finally died on me : ( So I picked up the new mytouch, which brings me to the question....can I root and apply custom roms using the same methods as the slide...? I haven't seen anywhere about mods for this Ph I'm assuming cause its new. the new mytouch has potential and I definitely need to get rid of this horrible bloatware. Thanks in advance for any help.

you mean the htc glacier? despite the looks it's a totally different phone and you should head over to its specific forum...
or perhaps you meant the mytouch by lg... then you are out of luck afaik

I'm buying my very first smartphone. I've had a nokia or samsung flipphone for the past 8 years...simple phones. just call, text etc etc...didn't even bother taking pictures, WHEN i could figure out HOW.
Anyway, so the phone is the T-MOBILE MYTOUCH 4G (WHITE) by LG.
This is the closest forum I could find...so mods/staff, PLEASE don't ban me or fine me for the questions here...

Well first I want to UNLOCK my phone so I can take it to Europe...blah blah blah. I realise that I will have to pay some stupid 10+$ fee to get the unlock code...I have til Tuesday to endlessly google on a way to do it free...before my phone arrives.
Ok, I don't know what a ROM is or what ROOTING does for me...but I assume it's good...can someone PLEASE HELP ME...and is rooting this mytouch 4g white phone by LG a good idea?

i'd suggest you don't mess with stuff you don't need/don't know... there's a lot of technical stuff to know and you not knowing basically anything but wanting to unlock root and flash is the perfect recipe for some regrettable actions.
just get an unlock code for about 10 bucks and you're all set...

Thank you & I respect where you are coming from. I know I don't know anything about the Android world...I certainly didn't want an iPHONE as I don't like anything Apple...I'm a PC guy. I like to know what's going on when I'm working on a computer..NOT have it done for me Love the learning curve.
To further explain...I am assuming by rooting the phone I can upgrade the OS to the 4.0 Android system?...is that possible? From what I understand I'd only have the 2.2 that's already given...it's 2 point something IF I recall correctly.
IDEALLY, I'd have loved to have had a WebOS phone...but alas, HP farked it up and discontinued their products this past year...ah well.
So yes, still interested in rooting my phone to customise things
ALSO, since I'm getting this phone...I've read in many parts how people replace panels on the phone so they don't see the T-Mobile (for example) logo on the phone...etc etc...what do you folks suggest? What would be the best protection device for this phone? (I just found out a little while ago that UPS is delivering it 1 day early! Sometime today...so I should have it in my hands tonight when I get home from work...) I'm so excited!!

Ok...let's do this step-by-step if you can bear with me PLEASE.
At some point I'm supposed to be getting my phone TODAY...it hasn't arrived yet, even though UPS says online that they did. After a few frustrating calls, it turns out the "loaner" driver cheated the system by saying he delivered it when he never did...
AFTER I get my phone, of course I need to get acclimated to it. Should I assume that I must UNLOCK it first by paying some 10$ fee online?...and THEN going on to ROOT the phone?
I just checked, and it turns out my phone is shipping with 2.2...these days I hear Ice Cream is the new flavour (4.0)...which is what I'd like it to get upgraded to..and from there start getting apps that I know I'll use...like an RSS feed app to find out WHEN something is available on the net...(as an example).

Alright now I would love to help you out sir.
Let us clarify that you are purchasing the mytouch 4G by LG, not the htc mytouch 4g slide. And not the htc mytouch 4g.
I do not believe there is a very extensive development happening for the lg phone because it is a new copycat of the original mt4g. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
While the specs are rather similar, the internal workings of the phone, firmware, kernel, roms... Are most likely written completely differently.
Do not expect to be able to use anything you find in these forums. Nor the mytouch 4g (glacier) forums.
Sorry I believe you don't have a choice but to pay for the unlock code they provide. I'm not even sure you will be able to root that phone without directions made directly for that phone. Nothing in the mt4gs forums will be compatible.
You've got a chance in the glacier forums but I recommend asking around before you start messing with your lg phone, or risk bricking the phone.
Even if you are getting the lg 4g slider, its not even using the 1.2 ghz dual core processor. The specs are still closer to the mt4g either way, not the mt4gs
Edit: sadly I do not expect your phone to get an ota update for android 4.0, for a very long time if ever. Hopefully you get some luck and a community of people with your device have accumulated somewhere so that some development starts happening for you to try out newer versions of android... But when that does happen, odds are that the roms for your phone will be unstable because of the small community inevitably not having enough developers. I recommend always using the stock rom, if you want to enjoy top of the line technology, get the mt4gs, or maybe a better phone that will definitely get an official cyanogen mod 9, or is sold stock with android 4.0.
All that being said. Your purchase was not bad, spec wise. But if you are looking for aftermarket technology to make the phone 5x better, trade for a different phone.
The beauty of having an android phone is that it is open source. With aftermarket roms, you can push any phone to its limits and get the most out of what you paid for.

^ thank you for that. I'm not much into the (no offence) "geeky" side of all these ROMs and CUSTOMISATIONS...don't get me wrong...I'd love to get the most of this. I bought this phone, because it was cheap...that's the ONLY reason. I did NOT see a reason to pay hundreds upon hundreds for the current top-of-the-line phone. Just wanted a decent phone that did nice things for free or very close to it. I had been holding off for a very long time on getting a smartphone...this is my INTRO to your world. I signed a 2-year contract extension with T-Mobile.
IN the meantime, I shall be monitoring these pages and hopefully MOST of you beautiful geeks will scream "this phone is a must-have"...and THEN I'll shell out the bucks for a phone I could easily replace with what I have now.
I feel I want to spend money on a phone that will actually be GREAT for 2 years...ideally, that's when I feel personally I should upgrade to the next latest & greatest.
Yes this is the mytouch by LG...NOT the slide. It's got a black face, white back...3 "home" buttons on bottom.
MY misdelivered phone from yesterday thanks to a stupid UPS Driver, found its way into my hands this morning @ 6am while getting in my car...a great neighbour of mine knew when I left the house and walked my missing package over. So today of course I need to get jiggy with my phone and see how everything works, before I even think of UNLOCKING the phone

Since I purchased the phone I've been on these forums checking up on things atleast once a day if not 5x a day just so I'm up to date on things. It kind of gets addicting when everyone is trying to contribute their 2 cents to make the phone the best that it could be
