First of all thanks to everyone here for being so helpful.
I'm trying to put together a list of applications which have themes that allow one to have a completely black background with white font.My view is that this would be fundamental in saving battery power.
Applications I use that have this facility are: Profimail, Newsroom.
I would like to do the same for HtmlViewer,Skyfire,Imo.im.
I am quite happy navigating with no images in at least one of my net browsers.
Excuse this long post

BTW, this is on SGS with 2.2.1 Android,Sconcau ROM, speedmod kernel k13a, XJPA

I am also using the theme with black background with white font.
It is great , as it is really save power, it is especially usefull for my sony X10.
Great. This is my opinion too. The more applications I use which put white print on black background, the longer the battery will last.
One other app I use that has a "night" setting is the tritone reader, for e-books, though I would very much like to view these forums in some kind of night mode, as well as browsing the net in white on black

You can add Due Today (a todo/project manager) to that list. I chose that theme for the very reason you're looking for.
Thanks,I will indeed add that to the list

Thanks for the tip, Chmckay, that is one really good application

You're welcome. Just wait until 1.3. It gets much better
Handcent can replace the messaging app and it allows you to set your own colors for the app as well. I actually use it right now with white text on a black background.
K9 Mail allows you to have an app for your email with a black background.

Hi - I think if they are unique and useful then we'll need to post a description of what they do, otherwise you'd have to download it and try it out to see if it's something that you'd find useful....
For me - Data on demand - switches your mobile data connection off when you're screen is off, unless a background task calls for it.
and battery indicator - put's a little battery icon in your status bar which shows you how many % battery you have left.. much more useful than the vagaries of the std battery icon.
Hey above two are very common man

My first post!
Just to correct OP, MeContacts is not a smart dialer. It's an app that you can put different contacts in grid view. You can choose either to call or view contact when you tap on that particular contact. Also, speak and send is great, thanks OP.
I've been nerding and looking up for anything that can improve my X10. I'll name the ones that I don't think are very common. But ya, here goes my long list (in no particular order; i don't use all of these now, but they have been useful to me before)...
*1) QuickDesk Beta
- quick pop up menu where you can add apps/widgets and allows you to stay on your current application (for some reason the double tap doesn't work for me, but single tap works fine)
2) Last Call Widget
- a simple widget that lets you see your last call (can 1 click to call back the caller if it was a missed call)
3) Quick Settings (by Sergej Shafarenka)
- an app that lets you quickly set your WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. This is better than having a widget constantly running in the background
4) Quick Battery (by Sergej Shafarenka)
- nice looking battery widget
*5) Multicon Widget
- have 4 shortcuts (not widgets) in a normally 1 icon space (helps save a lot of space)
*6) Car Mode
- press on the icon, and phone all phone calls will be coming out of the speakers (NOT a bluetooth feature which connects to other BT devices)
7) Turtle Photoframe
- best (in my opinion) photoframe for pictures, not a lot of features or customization, but gets the job done I think
8) Unit converter (by Wopnersoft)
- really nice looking interface for a unit converter
9) Tajm
- presents the time and date in word format rather than numbers
*10) Shake - Uninstall
- enable the feature, and go into any application (does not work with widgets), then shake to uninstall the app
11) Blik Calendar Widget
- a 4x1 widget that shows your calendar schedule for about 8-10 days. Uses 1 of 500 built in pics to describe your activity for that day
*12) Home Switcher
- if you use a lot of different launchers and set 1 as a default, this will be very useful for you to toggle between the different launchers
*13) Market History Manager
- 1 click to delete the history in Market, very useful and straightforward
*14) ToDo List Widget
- easy to add, edit, and delete lists. very handle and simple to use.
Hope that list helps people! *phew* that took awhile to type it up =P
*starred ones are the ones I think are most useful.

Is this available on the Android Market?
Ghost Commander... A great Dual-pane file manager(like Norton Commander, FAR manager etc), making it very easy to copy and paste between folders in your SDcard, both panes are individually configurable and its the only file manager that i use...
Its a free download from android market
Note: if you've already used dual-pane file managers handling this is a breeze, but for first timers there is a small learning curve
Thanks ECBomb for sharing the names of those apps..will try n let u know

ehh, I have it now, but only 2 holes and then it is finished, it's the shortest trial ever! But the graphics and gameplay looks good. Only I have force closes almost everytime on my x10i....
And on topic again:
Smooth Calender widget for nice transparant text only appointments on your desktop, I use it in combination with Jorte (Calendar app). Both free on the market.

Every time I try to set a live wallpaper it just goes back to the regular wallpaper I had before, any help ?

are you using a task killer when i was using one they would stop working sometimes even if i excluded them but they seem to be working fine for me with autokiller
No I don't use a task killer, it just doesn't actually let me put the live wallpaper on, I can see it when I preview it but when I try to set it the background turns black for a sec or two then back to my regular wallpaper
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Which live wallpaper in particular? All the ones I've used seem to work just fine.
All the ones I've tried, starfield, a halloween wallpaper, super mario, really ever one I've tried

I had similar issues before a while back. I researched it.The upper end ones have a hard time running, but the lower end ones work. Because of a bug in adw, it will often revert back to default wp. My suggestion is use launcherpro or zeam.
You wont have that issue. Although you may have to keep setting the upper end ones 2 or 3 times. Once it sets it stays on. Just to make sure your not trying to open them from the app tray are you? Because if you are they wont give you an option to open. Make sure your long pressing the home screen, selecting wallpapers, then selecting live wallpapers.
I've been using launcherpro lol and I know how to set live wallpapers but thank for the info, damn I guess their just not for me lol

Hi All,
I've been quite closely following Alterbridge and his Overcome GB custom rom, and since i travel around alot, its been so worth my while following it through the XDA app.
The app itself is clean, no extra fuss, and gives exactly what you ask for. What i'm driving at here is, do you feel its missing anything? Maybe we can get the developer to join us and see if they like our ideas and possibly add them to the app.
i'll go first - i think the option to THANK someone in the forums, if they helped you in any way could possibly be added to the menu (for me in android, its long-pressing menu drop-down on a specific post )
The app itself is VERY similar to Tapatalk but its missing one of my must-have features. I would love there to be a "dark" theme that uses white text and a black background instead of black text and a white background. Just something to think about.
xda app
i still can't figure out how to post with it
Search function, being able to see the smileys instead of text wrapped in colons, ability to re-arrange the order of the favorites list, and the ability to attach files other than images.
I use the XDA app alot, probably more than I visit XDA on my PC, so I guess the little things that the tapatalk app don't do tend to bug me a little after awhile lol.

hate em all. only one I like is the stock android one. i do use handcent, but only for the emoji. if the stock sms app got an addon for that I would switch back in a heartbeat.

AOKP has a stock ICS SMS app that has Emoji. I love it.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Although it has a large footprint like Handcent, GoSMS is terrific for a lot of reasons. First, it has two plugin downloads for emoticons/Emojis. It comes with standard happy/sad/confused faces, but one plugin adds elaborate faces, symbols and icons (probably close to 300) and are much more detailed. The second plugin adds something like large vector art.
And some may be asking "how can my recipient get these things in their messages if they are not supported--or if one of these items turns the message into an MMS?
Well that's the most nifty thing about it. It had a service that is linked to the app which routes it around their servers and straight to your recipient as a data-based MMS. In other words, even if you cannot typically send MMS because your APN is wrong or whatever, this app makes sure your texts get through...essentially it's an SMS-over-IP service. Plus, your recipient does not need to have it installed.
Lastly GoSMS can be infinitely skinned. I am not sure what Handcent can do, but I use images for the background of my conversations list and my actual conversion (which can be customized for each recipient). It also scans all other apps for any fonts it can use, and offers them to be used as part of the UI..
Sent from my HTC One-S (rooted), stock ROM
I prefer GoSMS. I don't like the stock sms client and originally used Handcent until it started force closing all the time. If this had not start happening, I would probably still use handcent. GoSMS is highly customizable which I like.
I'm using the inverted AOSP Stuff out of this forum from he_stheone64. Because it's look very smart and clean for me and it's much easier to handle than this htc sense stuff..
thats my opinion why I had chosen them.

Okay how about an app that uses your phone's GPS to find all grocery stores in your area. From there you can type in the name of an item and it would cross reference the prices of all the surrounding stores and give you a list of all the prices. With the economy being in the crapper and money getting tight, it seems like it could be a killer app.

Google Maps + Google Shopper already do this to the best knowledge they can as stores do not show all food costs online.
since you say u r new, i suggest you to go for an idea which has already been made and put your flavor on it, once you get your hands on it, u can make something original. I like a fully functional app that uaes the proximity sensor to operate differnt functions, there is already an app, but it has flaws

Make a good porn app.
An animated nyan cat widget (with a mute toggle) would be nice...
Haha I was thinking in some app what make raffles. For example: many people get together at an raffle, then each person gives their numbers to participate, then your Android randomly chooses a number and sends a SMS to the winner.
You can read the numbers from a file.
Clock in notification panel
Hi, I would like to see a clock developed which would sit in the notification panel. There would be an optional icon displayed in the status bar.
I like to keep my wallpaper clean and it would be useful to drop the notification panel down and see a customizeable digital clock. It should open the alarm or calendar When tapped.
Good luck with any project undertaken.

I was just thinking of an app that help me make a reminder for bill, and it must support taking OCR of the bill details.
I know there is one in the market, but doesn't work like what I want.
It should work like the business card reader, where it knows which part is a person's name, which part is the company, which part is the address, the phone, the email, so on and so forth.
This bill app should let me "scan" the bottom part of my bill with the camera, where the payment details are (account number, amount, due date) and set a reminder for me on my google calendar.

i dont think is a hard thing to do but i think is always dependent to the app you use to play music, but is something i can see also.
The main idea of this post is to get ideas base on the needs of nowadays. Like when we are on the street, and we need that app for knowing the nearest grocery or something else wich could make our life easier. If anyone has time to think a little on what they need most, and think is missing, or an app wich they dont think is easy enought, thats mostly what i want to start building. I really liked some ideas here already stated, just 1 more week and i'm ready for building apps.
About porn apps , maybe after the serious stuff for fun lool
What about an app that shows any combination of chosen apps in tabs?
For example, you can put your favorite calendar app and your favorite task planner app in a single tabbed layout.
Or your music player and last.fm scrobbler.
Or Whatsapp, K9 Mail, and your SMS app all in a single three-tabbed meta messaging app.
Or Skype and Viber.
Etc.
It wouldn't take a lot of coding. You just need some code to frame other apps in yours, a settings screen to choose which apps you want to see, and a way to send a shortcut to your home-made app combo to your homescreen. If it's your first app it's a good idea to keep it simple.
