I was tweeting with a samsung helpdesk person. Here is what she said about kies mini:
"Currently Kies Mini doesn't perform any functions for the Captivate. As for 2.2 I don't have any information but we are working on it. "
If I flash stock JF6 then does it mean that I cannot get the JH7 update through kies mini? Anyone recently (last few days or so) did this kind of update through kies mini? Help is appreciated. Thanks

She's right, as far as compared to regular Kies, which has lots of functions. On the Captivate all it can do is update the ROM. You should still be able to update to JH7 with it.

Do the flash back to JF6, using Odin3 One-Click.
After done phone boots, wait till done, do a Master-Clear with Odin3
Kies-Mini will then work for you
You could use the OTA JH7 also
Using Kies-Mini is the way I would go/went
Good Luck

It seems like Keis Mini updated a few weeks ago. I just opened it up and it's updating again. This version is 1.0.0.11014_6. Has anyone else seen this?

Did you try kies mini or the full version kies that we can download from the non-US samsung site? My kies mini works just fine to identify my captivate. Have you put the phone on USB debugging and kies(firmware update) modes before connecting the USB? Also, you need to open the kies mini on your comp before you connect the cable to your phone. If you did all these but still facing problem then I am sorry I don't have a clue

If you have flashed a custom rom, modem, or kernal, and are receiving a "Unregistered Device" or "The update could not be installed" errors in Kies, you might need to restore your /efs folder from backup after flashing Odin stock JF6 and rooting. (I used adb to restore my backed up folder.) Then reboot a couple of times. After verifying your restore to be a success, flash with Odin once more and you should be good to update to JH7. This process worked for me just yesterday. I think the error has something to do with product codes inside of an encrypted file called nv_data.bin. There are guides for the backup and restoral process in the dev sections and in the i9000 area. Just run a search for "restore nv_data.bin" and it should turn up in the first few results. Also trying using different usb ports has worked for me in the past.

Did not know that. Will revert to stock TW launcer and see what happens. Use LauncherPro primarily.

You probably dont have drivers installed. They are included with samsungs media companion- kies. Search "kies" on google. Shouldnt be hard to find.

Hahaa nice i was same place as you where... I had Fuze and then Touch pro2 running energy roms... Well man you could try an older version of super obe click but.. The new one never gave me trouble.
And if as you say, you want to root to possibly flash a GB ron later the possibukity of Odin flashing a pre rooted Rom its still a good choice if super one click keeps giving you trouble, it will basicly leave your stuff like pics music etc intact and flash a rom with root included ill add you a few thread links when i get to my pc.

Thanks for the links koriotto. I went with an earlier 1.9x superoneclick for now, but I will get thos links bookmarked!
I do have a question tho. Your links are for ultimate unbrick, right? So basically that is a staock rom for users to flash back to if they go too far down the rabbit hole?
- Thanks, Kevin
It works fine if you don't use zergrush as the exploit.
Zergrush kept hanging for me with latest superoneclick version.
Switched exploit to psneuter and it worked fine
Having a rather annoying problem.
I decided to give the ICS leak a try, and did as instructed: Cleaned the cache & system files in recovery after making a backup, booted into download mode, used Odin to install the ICS Leak. Everything was working flawlessly. Booted back into download mode to install CWM Recovery. After about 5 minutes of nothing happening, my computer BSOD'ed on me with a memory leak error.
Here's where the problem started; I rebooted my phone, and the download mode was different, the "error" version:
"ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-I727
Custom Binary: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I've looked into it extensively, and tried several different methods. The first thing I tried was uninstalling the drivers on my computer, restarting, installing the drivers again, and reisntalling. Than I tried using the stock tar file for Odin. BDOD occurred with the same error.
Tried switching USB ports and USB cable, and doing the above again, but the same BSOD occurred.
I've also tried just flashing the stock Kernel, and again the same thing.
I've tried about 8, maybe 9 different methods. I've never had a BSOD on this computer (Asus G73SW running Windows 7). I'm not sure if I'm just having really bad luck, or doing something wrong, but I could really use some new recommendations on what to try. :/
Thanks!
Try a different computer. I can't see any reason ODIN would cause a BSOD. Has to be something on ur machine. Try killing everything on startup and disable any AV and give it another try.
<insert witty signature here>
I made the silly mistake of not checking the md5 when flashing ics. Got the same error. I had an incomplete version that was malfunctioning. Dont worry, its fixable. First off, use a different pc.Download the ics one click and flash again. Once running flash root with odin. The important thing is to use a different pc (its probably not odin)
Also, this is a dev section. Odds are this will be closed. Next time post in general or Q&A.

I am having an issue with odin 1.85. Two days ago I had flashed my Skyrocket to the leaked ICS. I had done so by using the one-click method. The flash worked out great but now I am tring to flash back to stock. I am doing this because I did not do my research enough and found a better flash to use.
When I plug the phone into the computer it is reconized and all the drivers are installed. Odin sees my phone and the correct port it is connected to. I have clicked PDA and picked the stock rom like I am suppose to. After I put the phone in download mode I plug it in and wait for odin to reconize it. Everything is working the correct way up until odin tries to flash. I keep getting the " Can't open serial (COM) port" error.
I am not new to modding phones. I have done this for many years I just have not ever posed here. So before I get the usual responses, I have uninstall and reinstalled all the USB drivers, Kies, changed USB ports, and had downloaded Odin 1.84 & 1.85. None of these common fixes help. I have also made sure that Kies is not running while I am tring to flash.
Any help would be great. Thank you ahead of time.
When you open Odin, are you right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator"? If not, doing this might help.
I've had this happen but I found that it usually works after a few attempts if it fails at first. Or, another common solution that you didn't mention is trying to do it from a different computer.
Also, which stock tar are you flashing? There are a few versions out there.
The best one to use is found at http://www.sammobile.com (open an account if you haven't already and search for the i727 firmware).
When I've had trouble with Odin I've found sometimes that using a previous version will help resolve the problem. If you have kies uninstall it. The drivers will stick

Just to reiterate, you do NOT want to use that tar. It is not stock and it will trip your flash counter. Use the one from sammobile.

When the phone boots to "firmware encountered an issue message" you still in dl mode try the ics one click again or just push a custom recovery and flash a rom
Edit: if possible be sure to ALWAYS check md5 to ensure proper download. That goes for anything you flash to your phone

Yup - figured out the DL mode thing. Just had a bit of a panic at first as the screen is pretty foreboding and it was my girlfriend's phone.
I went from, "Give me your phone, dear. I'm going to upgrade it and be your hero" to "Stop yelling. I didn't break your phone. Just give me a minute to figure out how to fix it."
My problem with the ICS one-click is that the program said it was done, but the phone just hung on the "downloading ROM screen" for 20 minutes. Now that I know how to fix the soft-brick, I want to try it again. The lady, however, doesn't seem too eager to hand over the phone. =]
Wait until she goes to sleep. Shell wake up to a surprise.

Hello everyone and sorry to bother everyone but im in a pickle. Im new to rooting and I was following this on YouTube by qbking77 called "How to Install Clockworkmod Recovery on the Samsung Infuse 4G " video.
So what my problem is that when i placed the modified 3e recovery file in the bin folder and tried to restart my Samsung infuse 4g through the clockworkmod recovery restart it will now only boot to the Samsung screen. I believe I may have somehow placed the wrong or a corrupted 3e recovery file into the directory.
I have searched many other forums to no avail if anyone could help i would be eternally grateful.
