do I have a bad SD card? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Just got a 32 GB Sandisk SD card for my tablet. So far have about 5 gigs of stuff on it, but every time I try to put more, it comes out all garbled and I have to disk repair it in order for it to work again. I have heard of counterfeit cards which claim they are larger than they really are. Both the tablet and PC say there are 32 GB on the card. Is the card bad, is it fake, or am I doing something wrong?

Probably fake. Where did you buy it from and how much did you pay?

32 GB MicroSD

I am trying to find a 32GB MicroSD card preferably class 6. The only one I have been able to find is class 2 and it's available from Buy.com. I've tried Google, Frys.com, New Egg, etc. Anybody know where I can get one?
Like to have it in hand when I get my Evo in 2 weeks.
Don't know if 32GB class 6 Micro SDHC cards are out there yet. I have a 16GB class 2 Kingston and it out performed my 8GB class 6 Transcend when I did speed tests on it.

the card on best.com is 350...its better off buying a 32gb iphone
Only Class 2 cards are in production at the present time.
I doubt Buy.com or anywhere other than Sandisk has them actually in stock to sell right now, Sandisk haven't even been able to keep up with their own orders.
I wouldn't worry about it being Class 2 too much to be honest, it doesn't really make a difference for in-phone use, only transfer speeds when loading information to the card. I have one in my Desire, works great (also works in my HD2 and X10).
I bought a "ebay rip off" that actually ended up being 31.2GB AFTER the format. It also says class 6, but I haven't tested that yet. I got the card for a whopping $18.88 with free shipping

try putting 30 gb of stuff and see if it runs
Card ran Just fine on the computer! I haven't MAXED the card because I don't have 31.2GBs of stuff to put on it. I did put 10.5GB on it.
EDIT: I have not tested the card on the phone, it seems I have some files on the card from my HD2 phone that were blocking my EVO's access to the card, but I will surely solve this problem. It did read putting on a few folders, maybe 200MB of stuff. The SD & Phone storage setting showed loss of the memory, it also showed 31.2GB of space left when I inserted the card with nothing on it.
You really ought to test it out. Most of the "bogus" cards show up as the correct amount, but typically they take a smaller card (2,4,8, or 16GB assuming), and hack it to look like 32. It'll work great until you try to write more information to it than the card actually holds (so 2,4,8, or 16GB's). If your card holds more than 16GB's, you are golden.

[Q] Best SD card for p500?

Hi, I have an lg p500 with cyanogenmod 10.1.5 and s2e. I also have a 2gb sand disk card, but I'm asking for the better size of sd card, and wich branch. I want to put s2e and swap and have some free memory to put music and other things. I heared about "classes" in sd cards, but I don't know how to choose the appropiate for my purposes. Thanks since now. And forgive me about my English.
Concerning SD cards for your phone you actually can't do much wrong.
The Classes in SD Cards (e.g. 4, 6, or 10) roughly tell how fast the SD card can handle (read/write) files. That means, the higher the class the faster is your SD card.
I'm using a Class 4 card and I feel it's actually sufficient. But If I had to buy a new one, I'd take a Class 10 card, since SD cards aren't really expensive nowadays.
I'm using a 16gb card and never had any trouble with insufficient space.
Btw, just google "sd card test" or "sd card review" to find out which brands are useful and which are bad.
€dit: The maximum possible capacity for a SD card for your phone is 32gb.

Ok, I live in Argentina, where whatever you want to buy is more expensive than other countries. Specially if you want electronics thisngs, so I have to choose carefully, and, obviously, pay a lot more than in other places.
So, the question is when I go to the shop, and search for a sd card, where I have to look to know if it is class 10, 9 or whatever, or how I figure out wich class is without buying and testing it.

The class will be printed on the SD card, in a small circle. You won't even need to open the package to know which class the card is.
Example look at the images here: https://www.google.co.in/search?q=3...oAA&biw=360&bih=615&rlz=1Y1XIUG_enIN549IN549#
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If u check Wikipedia about SD cards, it states that even Class 4 cards are sufficient for HD video recording (however, when using a HD cam, I would rely on a Class 10 card.)
If you accordingly just want to listen to music with your phone and store some apps --> Class 4 is definitely enough.
Thanks a lot, now I know where I have to look, and I think 8gb sd It's ok in money and capacity. Now I have a 2gb sd.

256GB SD card working

Everything i can find on the internet says our galaxy s4 only supports up to 64GB sd cards but I just bought a cheap ($14) 256GB Class 10 micro sd card and my M919 is reading it fine. I'm running 5.0.1
If this has already been discussed else ware, sorry for the re-post!
Download the H2TESTW program to your PC and run it to determine the true capacity of your card, because I'm 99% certain you just got ripped off. Currently, the largest MicroSD card is 200GB, by Sandisk.
Definitely a fake. 200+ gb in microsd cannot feasibly be sold for $14 without taking a major loss. But if/when a real 256gb microsd card is made, the S4 will likely work with it. I don't believe there is a hard upper limit on the capacity supported by the S4's card slot.
Yeah, package might say it, but plug it into your computer and check the bytes on it.
try to copy data on that fake sd (200gb) . after 16gb or 32gb later you will get error .
Yeah it's probably fake
Nothing will cost that cheap!
probably china fake
Wanna buy a bridge?
For a class 10 SD you pay about 1 euro per GB, it is probalby a class 2 which has 4-16GB on it.
China fake

it's definitely a fake one.

Did y check that does the it is read as 256GB instead of of 64GB.
Stay away from that bridge. It will fail! I have a tunnel you can buy for much cheaper!

200GB Sd

I see in the specs that the SD is limited to 200GB. I have a 256gb - wll that be recognized but limited to 200gb, or will it not be recognized at all?
If so, could it be partitioned to 200gb to get around this limitation?
From what I've heard they said 200 because that's where the technology is. Why say 1tb when there is no 1tb. So in theory it should work.

Saw someone on here in another thread (might have been the Int. S7 forum) that said they had a "200GB" SD. Didn't seem right. It should be 256GB but what do I know. Turns out SanDisk makes a 200GB card... weird, right? Anyway, they do exist.
Edit: from what I'm reading around the web, 200GB is the current cap on microSD cards? A 256GB card is most likely fake and will read at 200 or lower capacity. Is this right?

I been using sandisk 200 gp sd card with 90 mgbs transfer and it works great. I do have a 512 gb sd card i got off ebay. i used it in my note 4 and lg4. it works, but i believe it to be unreliable. i just tried it in the s7 and it reads 500gb and i can access all files and pics. so i do believe if you could find a good 512 g card it will works. this is a cheap one i got off ebay. just fyi. regards.

SD cards of that size do exist. I should have clarified that I was talking about MicroSD, no standard sized cards. 200GB is the largest MicroSD size currently available.
I take that back there is a 512GB MicroSD but at about $1,000 (US) I don't think many here have it lol. Who made your 512GB card? Have you tested it to make sure it actually hold that much? Cons are very tricky and its very easy to change the capacity a card reports to a computer.
sd card
it is a microsd and was bought on ebay. came from china. on a pc or on the phone it clocks in at about 500 gb.

That's what you were being told. It's easy for those cons to make a 32gb card tell a pc or even a phone that it's actually 500gb. The test is to see how much you can actually put on it before you get errors. I bought a 64gb card on Ebay and it came from China. I learned very quickly that it couldn't handle that much data. I moved a few apps over no problem but as soon as I moved 20gb of music over I could no longer read the card. Get rid of the music and the card is readable. I complained to the seller and they said they'd exchange it. Well for the price and the time it took I decided not to. At the very least I got a thumb drive style microsd card reader out of that deal.
I wish 512 gb memory cards were affordablr

I was just keeping my mouth shut lol. I tried to hint at that to him but he seemed dead set that it was somehow the only 512GB microsd in existence or a got a $1,000 object for 1/100th the price. Oh well, some have to learn lessons the hard way.
San 200's are $79 on amazon right now.
