Ok guys, here I am - finally.
This forum is my last chance as I am going mental trying to find a solution to this issue searching the internet.
My Defy won't charge!!!
It won't charge from a socket, not form the PC via USB.
And It's not the hardware failure, 100% sure.
Now,
Imagine you have a rooted defy with original stock rom.
Everything is fine and you never experienced any real problems with the phone apart from freezing maybe but this is nothing (just uninstall all the unnecessary crap and you'll be fine).
Anyway you decided to play with custom roms, and as this is you first time you do two very important things: back up you current rom and back up all you apps using Titanium Backup.
You also have clockworkmod recovery.
Now,
Here where the problem started - I download new ROM using Rom Manager but when I tried to install it I was given a message: The phone will be turned off and instalation will continue in recovery mode. And when I pressed yes nothing happened.
Next I did the most stupidest thing ever - I installed 2ndinit recovery and THAT'S IT - after reboot - no sign of life whatsoever. I am still asking myself why on Earth I did that.
Oh no, I can get to bootloader but it is saying that battery low cannot program.
I can also get to android recovery mode but this is not clockworkmod recovery and there is no option for restore. I only can wipe cache and restore to factory state but it does not help.
I was trying to get into RSD solution but PHONE IS DEAD, CAN'T DO THAT!
ANY SUGGESTION, I do not want to believe that this is the end for the great handset.
Anything anybody......???????????????????????
Can you see the device when it's connected to a computer? Then you should be able to flash clockwork recovery again using adb. Follow the 'Installing bootmenu & the ClockworkMod Recovery' instructions on the Cyanogenmod wiki / Defy full update guide.
Then you can restore your backed up ROM.
Actually It's not detected by PC just because battery is dead.
So when I get it charged somehow I certainly will try that. Thanks
It won't charge even when the phone is powered off? Have you tried a different USB cable? Maybe you know someone else with a Defy that you can swap batteries with. Or get one of those external battery chargers. It's starting to sound more like a hardware problem, then a software problem with your ROM.
Before I continue, I would first like to note that I did find a few similar threads that reflected my problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859801
In this thread, the poster describes the exact same problem I have, mainly, that my rooted phone with CWM, when powered fully off and plugged into the wall, boots directly into CWM (my phone turns of the screen after a second or so, and in order for me to get it back to normal, I just have to reboot my system back into my AT&T Gingy stock). The "power off" function also does not work, because it powers the device completely off... Only to boot CWM again. The final poster on that aforementioned thread links this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10230011&postcount=13
Where I did check my phone and noted that my USB Connection type is, in fact, "charge only". Thus, I have no idea what is going wrong.
I'm not totally worried about this, since I can still boot into the OS and a fully-function CWM through ROMmanager, and charge to the best of the phone's ability, but I would like to fully charge without wasting energy on the phone's standby. When I first starting reading about this bug, I noticed the posts were from 2010, and my CWM was flashed by the AAHK, which I imagine has a newer version of CWM (just checked and mine is 5.0.2.7).
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

I had the same problem and as best I can tell is that it seems to be a CWM bug. Try installing 4EXT instead of CWM. 4EXT has full touch capability so it is nice if you use recovery a lot. And the nice part is that you lose none of your CWM backups because it utilizes the same folder for saving and retrieving nandroids.
http://4ext.net/ to get the free version but it is also on Google Play store. On Play it is not free but it is not expensive and worth supporting the dev.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

Firstly hi to all you clever folks:good:
I dont know what to do now but here is my fault.
1-I flashed a rom kikat to instruction given here,All went well untill the reboot where the samsung logo appears
2-The logo stayed on for 20 minutes and nothing,My battery was 50% at the time.
3-I then loaded my back up from clockwork recovery, rebooted tablet and i was back on 4.1 andriod.
3- i kept getting the 7 error during the the update for the zip.
4-I proceeded to change the file to .doc to take out those first lines, which identifies the product model(i can remember what that was but i fixed it)
5-Now i was getting the 6 error,i then proceeded to fix this via notepad++.(something about changing to hex for unix code)I fixed that
5-while all this the battery was now at 20%.
6-I tried flashing the rom again and this time it worked as all the fixes were in place,as per instruction from the forum.
7- the tablet booted up but still the samsung logo was on,Ok i left it as the first boot takes long,The battery was at 15% at that time.
8-I completely forgot about the tablet,as i was busy fixing a ps3 and psp with cfw.
9-I remembered gawd damnit.
10-Ran to the tablet and saw the tablet off(i then proceeded to put it in recovery mode but alas, all that came up was a battery sign with a loading gif.
11-Now the tablet is dead and it never really booted.I plugged in the usb and instead of charging it shows the battery sign with a loading circle, its as if the software did not complete for the battery monitoring and usb charging.
12-Is there not a way to charge the battery without going via the OS andriod. Is there not a special charging cable that just charge the battery.
13-My tablet is rooted and is modified in everyway.
My solution
Can this work,I take the back cover off and take the battery out,Fine the + and - and connect a 5v charger to these point.....charging it just enough for a recovery process. If there is someone that know of any other way or the battery pin layouts for charging.
Taking it to a repair centre is not an option, even if it still under warranty(my wife will kill me if she found out i rooted 3 tabs in the house.
I need to fix via incognito .I am good in what i do ,but xda members are good in what they do and far better clued up with these problems.Let me know what you guys and gals come up with...........thank you for reading my plight
Use original charger for the tab - USB-Ports and other charger maybe don't have enough power to charge it, or only charge it slow.
Press the Power-Button ~ 30 seconds to turn it into chargeing mode when it's connected.
boot into download-mode and update your recovery (you need up-to-date-recovery to flash KitKat Roms, else you'll get error7) - link in my signature.
redownload the rom.zip and place it on your MicroSD,
Make a wipe data factory reset, format /system, wipe cache and wipe dalvic cache,
flash the rom.zip
reboot your device.

1-the 30 second thing does not work
2-cant boot into download mode ,i have 3 volts left on battery memory,The tab will not respond
3-the status error 7 i fixed last time and status error 6 i fixed
4-I re downloaded the rom
5-Did the factory reset/format/wipe dalvic and flashed the rom last time,The tab will only boot up the samsung sign, then no further.
btw the tab wont charge ,just a battery icon with loading circle.
Did you flashed anything else? Maybe broken EFS? If s you´ll stuck at Samsung Logo and System won´´t boot.
Can you reach the device on adb in recovery?
In a german forum i had 2 guys breaking EFS by flashing CWM wich wasn´´t made for Tab 2
edit:
You can boot into download-mode from recovery You´´kll find that option.

You know what i opened the tab and charged the battery with 5v usb at 300ma.The tab booted up and i got into recovery(clock work touch mod)
Its so bad luck for me,i had enough power to do a recovery from zip but somehow the sd card wont work,I tried the sd card in my pc and its actually broken,There is no response.
I loaded my back up zip on another sd card,The tab battery is flat now and i am gonna charge it external again for 2 hours,Then go back to cwm and restore to my original rom backup. Will let you know how its going.

Did the battery trick again,Got into recovery and flashed 4.4 kitkat,All is well.
Only one problem now, I have so little internal memory space.I deleted the cwm backup rom,I am trying to create space but cant seem to find whats taking up so much.
If only there was an app that would do this for me.

Ok guys, i'm in trouble trying to fix this great mistake. I'm new in android programming, and i bricked my device a few times, but i managed to fix it out. But that time, i was trying to reinstall Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my device. It was working well, but i had to flash an app, and it bootlooped. I forgot that i had only about 16% of battery. In adb, fastboot mode, i erased /system and /boot, but when i tried to flash the boot.img, it haven't worked, because in the device blocks from flashing with low battery. So, im trying the .bat method now, trying to charge it, and the method of plugging in wall charger and connect to pc don't worked, because i disconnect, with "Battery OK" and when i connect in USB, it changed to "Battery Low (Charging)". But now, in wall charger, i didn't get even the "Battery OK". Today i noted that when i connected in USB, the "Battery icon" appeared with 0% , and the screen gone off. Initiates, and deactivated very fast. When i try to initiate device, the "Motorola" logo appears very fast before it go to the fastboot. I really dont know what to do, and i dont have the tools to open my Moto G, and i have no idea of where to find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
PS.: Sorry by my english, i'm from Brazil.
PS²: Sorry if i don't have posted in the right place. It's my first topic.
Ok Guys, i've simply opened the phone and connected the battery to an old charger, and waited a few minutes until it had enough charge to reflash partitions. Thanks anyway, guys!
Hi guys,
Sorry, I guess I have f*cked up my moms tab 2 (model GT-P5110)
I guess it's hard bricked, because it doesn't power up, but I'm not 100% sure maybe you guys can help me out or provide me with some tools which I can try to get life back into it.
- I can't access recovery mode via the normal way
- I can't access download mode via the normal way
There is a battery sign, but it's not rotating or anything else, just there... (kept it already 24hr in wall charger but without effect)
On the other hand if I try to connect it with USB to laptop, then it's saying " USB device not recognized" (and this " error" is coming every 5 seconds)
(sorry can't post pictures, because I'm a new user to this forum)
Hope you guys can help me.
Thank you in advance

Hard brick won't even show a battery sign, have you tried using a new cable? Perhaps the cable ia at fault? What exactly did you do?

Thank you for your reply.
I haven't tried a new cable, because I don't have one, but to be honest I don't think that could be the solution, because if I put it inside my laptop to gives some sign of life "USB device not recognized".
I can't post pictures or link parts..., but the ring inside the batterij doesn't rotate. It's just there sometimes and frozen.
Looking forward to your response or any other responses

I had the same error on my pc everytime i tried and the only way i get over it is by, proper drivers, trying different usb ports and changing my data cable.
And i have seen hard brick as well, it won't show anything, not even a unrecognized usb cable msg.
And there is not much you can do without a recovery or download mode. So the first thing that you can rule out is your cable is not at fault.

I used the original USB cable with an not origional USB adaptor or the USB directly into my laptop but neither worked.., but yesterday I collected the original USB adaptor at my parents house and put it in a wall charger over night. I pressed the buttoms to access download mode and suddenly it works this morning ..... really really strange, so I guess that this is the problem.
Mom told me: Yes, sometimes there is a red cross inside the battery, but it will charge if you wait or try to unplug and plug it a couple of times.
My guess what happened:
- (sunday) Tab was very low battery with flashing around 10%
- (sunday) Stopped with flashing at 5%, because it was too late
- (monday morning) did nothing, battery empty and charging failed over the day.
- So I guess during the flash the battery broke down completely....
I directly switched on my laptop after I could acces download mode and downloaded stock rom. Unfortunately have to go to work and the download will take one hour , so hopefully it will stay in download mode the hole day, because I don't want to take the risk to turn it off
Guys,
I have another issue.
It connects to odin, but it failed to setupconnection if i try to flash a standard rom + pit..

<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Can someone help?
Solved:
Solution, go to CWM and wipe data, mount and storage and so on.
Reconnect to download mode and flash stock rom
Tablet is working fine on origigional software right now...
If all else fails..what i did for clients was open tablet and charge the battery externally with 5v usb for 2 hours, then reinsert and do necessary fixes

Greetings;
Like others already said: Get a Good USB Cable, and try other USB Ports when such thing Happens.
When Computer fails to Install the Device: Get Device Drivers (Kies).
A "Red Cross" at the Battery: Means your Charger does not have enough power to charge your device. Also Happens with USB on Computer.
When a Device Boots to Recovery, that ususlly means 97% of Times you can Fix it Totally or Partially. Depending on the " Damage " / "Mistskes" done previously.
Note: Mistakes happen to everyone, specially when learning or messing with Android Devices.
TIPs:
1) Before you proceed with any customization, always make backups (ROM Backup, EFS Backup and Personal Data).
2) Always Make Sure Whatever you Flash is for your Exact Device Model.
3) Have a Stock Rom and Recovery files close, just in case something goes bad.
Finally: Read a Lot, and Make questions when you dont Understand something, etc..
You will learn a lot, save lots of time and you will let yourself stay out of trouble.

Let us know if you experience " Duplicated Data " or other Errors.
Judging by the steps mentioned here I assume you are.
Hopefully your Device Runs Ok Now.

Hi Richard,
Thank you for your reply , I learned indeed.
Did a lot of flashing (around 20times before on my Galaxy S1 and Note 2) without a lot of trouble
This was the first time I tried to flash a custom rom on a Tablet, but failed
It's currently running on stock rom without issues.
Will Root and flash custom rom this evening again, but this time with full battery instead of <10%
Will update the post afterwards .
Greetings;
Ok.
Please proceed with caution now. xD
Before Flashing Remember to:
- Have a Backup of your Device Saved on Your SDCard (Made with CWM).
- Never Delete Battery Stats.
- Never Mess with Odin Checkboxes. Specially " EFS Clear"
If you do so you may end up in Losing your Imei, Wifi and Bluetooth Mac Adress and make then unavailable or not working. Consider yourself warned. As most people wont tell you this small tremendous problem.
- Try to get someminfo about the Custom Rom you're about to Install. Specially if it will change your partitions.
It is good to know that in case you need to revert the process. If it chamges your partitions, then reverting to stock may require you to select "Re-Partition" under Odin. Yet please double check with the Rom author.
1) Go Recovery, Erase Cache, and Dalvik (If you Have Dalvik Option under Advanced Tab under ClockWorkMod Recovety)
2) Proceed to your Flashing Method.
3) Install CF-Root / Kernel (If Custom Rom Doesnt Include It)
If your Device Goes into Bootloops or Kernel Panic after Flashing:
Take your Battery out, Press Power Button to Discharge the Memory Components, Place your Battery Back.
You're Most Likely Good to Go.
After putting the Battery Back I prefer to:
Boot into Recovery, Clean Cache and Dalvik. Then perform a Factory Reset (Yes Factory Reset Also Cleans Cache - But I find this method effective to prevent further errors).
After this I think you're good to go.
Although I wouldnt go for Custom Roms. There's just no need.. =)
If your goal is Performance, Battery Duration and Storage Space you don't need Custom Roms.
If your goal is having something different, (usually Buggy) and low Battery Duration... Well go for Custom!
Sounds Crazy, but thats the way it is.. Good Luck

Hi,
You can't remove a battery out of a tab2.
In your opinion there is no benefit to flash a custom rom, because they are worse than stock?
You can. Try searching YouTube for:
"Removing Samsung Galaxy Tab Battery"
Custom ROMs are good:
- To have Nice visual themes;
- To simplify some operations like (Deodexing and Removing Bloatware, Install Custom Kernel, Add or Remove Funtions)
- To have a upgraded Firmware. (when brand wont release more updated Stock ROMs)
- Maybe some more (but I dont recall everything at this moment).
But on the other hand, expect:
- Bugs;
- Maybe Device Brick or Component Damage;
- Lots of time fixing your device.
- Sometimes Device may not work properly;
- For sure: Less Battery Duration;
Everything will depend on what's the purpose for your device.
Please Press Thanks if this Helped you, as this will keep me motivated to continue supporting this Forum.

Hello Angerfistt;
Glad to know.
Tip: Install Greenify and Set it up properly.
You will see some improvement in your battery duration.
