Odd problem - Samsung Mesmerize

Okay for a good month and a half I have been having an odd problem. Sometimes randomly my phone will start glitching and viberating randomly like I'm pressing the soft buttons below the sreen and sometimes that menu comes up like I pressed the menu button. Not the launcher. Ans also I can be in gallery and select a photo and it will viberate like I hit the back button and it will go back and I have to select it a few times before it stops. What could it be? It even done it on froyo
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

That happens to me every once in a while, the whole system will just hang and the menu will come up or the recent apps thing will come up multiple times and the phone will vibrate, then it just goes back to normal.

Yea. What's causing it

Could be a bad flash, or some app has created a conflict, seems to me I read there are a couple of apps that caused this. You could just reflash a different rom, see if that fixes it.

once every few days why? I think its hardware not software. cause No matter what rom I have had even 2.2 and stock it still does it

From my experience you can get some oddities such as this as a result of a bad flash (which re flashing would correct as stated above) so I'd say your assumption is probably correct and your problem may be with the hardware.

I don't want to ask the obvious question but no one has. Have you dropped it any? Or has it been exposed to any kind of water. I had a phone freak-out on me when usb port got a little wet from some rain.
Just when you think you have it idiot proof, they come out with a better idiot.

not been wet and its not a bad flash. Right now I'm trying out froyo again and it done it again last night. I'm a uscellular agent. And I have yet to have anyone else come I. With the same problem

I believe this happens on an undervolted kernel un areas of extremely low signal. Recently, it seems to be happening on any kernel. I hope this get's addressed in our real froyo release.

It happened when I was on 2.1 as well, Usually only when I had a bunch of things running. Im an agent too! xD

OK my phone stopped for a few days I haven't had a case on it. Then today I pit my case back on it and it started doing it earlier for the first time in days. The case doesn't over the front of the phone at all
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

Yea, that sounds like it may be the case :s I've had it happen a couple times, but I thought it might just be like my fingerprint is over the button and keeps presseing it. I just wipe my finger over the bottom of the phone and it stops. Don't know if its the same thing.
Sent from my Froyo Mesmerize

I think you are right I've had the same issue and if youlook at the soft keys when it happens you'll see that one of the buttons thinks it's being pressed I think it's just a hardware issue cause like you said when you run your finger over the keys it stops.
Also, similar problem every once in a while when I'm trying to swype during a swype it acts as if my finger lost contact with the screen but I definitely didn't lift my finger abd it happens several times in a row until I lock the screen turning the touch screen off it seems to reset the touch sensors.

or it's a ghost, woooooooo!

I've experienced this issue before, although very rarely. Every time it has been the menu button and it always seemed to be in colder weather. I use a thin screen protector I picked up at a USCC store. Happens even more rare with EA11 leak however my screen brightness changes (occasionally) when I end phone calls and am in the middle of an app

Does anyone have problems in the “return” key like me?

I always need to touch the Return key for 2-3 times to make it work, sometimes it doesnt work at all and I have to use Home key instead...
Is it a common software problem or it's just my cappy ?
It happens to me with any rom/kernel etc.
I don't know if it is software or hardware related, my back/return key is irresponsive almost everytime, speccially whe the softkeys backlight is off
I have the same problem especially when the backlight is off.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the hardware or software that has to do with this button i just think its the way the phone was designed. I have issues too sometimes with it. Really you just have to hit it in exactly the right spot and it works every time. Play aroundwith it and youll probably notice its fine you just have to hit it in the right spot. Still its frustrating i know. Ive just started planting my whole thumb print on that sucker and it works every time.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yup, I hate it, I've played with a Samsung Fascinate and it's return button is so responsive, it's hard to believe it's anything else but a hardware problem.
the problem is that, why are all the other three keys work every time? ive tested in LCD TEST MODE and it seems like if you touch it fast it wont response while the other buttons have no problem like this
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
if it always works like this, i can still tolerate it, what i really worried about is that maybe one day it will be totally broken.

Well, I went to the repair store and they are aware of this issue. Is a hardware issue. The phone works this way. Its frustating because all other buttons works fine except return. I had an unlocked T-Mo Vibrant with Att, which BTW, works with ATT 3G service, and all of the bottons were very responsive, they even have a better lighted keypad. I suppose this is a design fault.
yep, vibrant and fascinate has brighter back light than cappy

Same problem here. It's completely non-functional if the phone is behind the window of my armband. All the other buttons work, though the home button is a bit touchy too.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well mine has the same problem too, even the home button is like that. I tried with 3 Captivates and they are all the same. I just don't understand why people in this forum never bring this problem up before (seriously). Well, it is not something like very annoying, but we should get better that this!!!
When I called samsung about this back in September after having this phone for two months the tech said.........get this, that the home and return buttons required a double tap due to the location to avoid backing out of apps like the browser and apps that require alot of lower screen use. I dont even believe it a little bit but who knows maybe I am wrong. All I do know is that all three of the captivates we have require at LEAST two taps, I dont think we are going to make samsung admit to to many more actual issues with this device.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
i have learned on mine, that if i swype any of the keys from the top left down to the bottom right all the buttons work 100% of the time.. but that may just be mine

Really, we deserve better than this. Malfunction in GPS is even less important than this issue, we can live without GPS, but can never live with a stupid back bottom. I really cant understand, how did the Samsung guys even let this design get through the quality test...
No problems with either of mine..I've 2 exactly the same date and both work fine with a light touch on all of the buttons..both of mine are the 9-4-2010 model with the JH7 firmware installed.
Mac
same issue.. annoys me a lot. I'm thinking I should abuse the Home key and just use a task killer lol
Same here. I notice it is much worse when my hands are dry (my skin is always dry anyway). If I dampen my finger (like, you know, licking it) it responds much better. It almost seems like it doesn't register capacitance as well in that area (really, all the buttons for me), but for some reason the rest of the screen is fine. It is rather irritating at times, but I deal with it. They'd probably have to replace the whole screen to fix it, and I don't see that happening.
No problem here, and on any other Captivate I try.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I have just the opposite problem with the search button. It has a mind of its own. I won't be touching a button or the screen and the stupid search comes up. It is really starting to get annoying. I was happy at first with the captivate, but this will be my last Samsung phone. They make things with nice hardware but their software and build quality is pretty craptacular. Talk about a piece of junk.

Homescreen will change screens without touching it?

I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue..
When I'm on the homescreen and not even holding the phone, it will mysteriously slide to the screen on the far left on its own?
Anyone else having similar behavior?
I'm temp rooted on visionary and running 7 homescreens..

Not sure if it's the same thing but it was reported in G2 forums many times. What happens is the light will hit trackpad at just the right angle for it to register and move. If it happens again, try moving the phone to a different spot and observe it. If you see the same behaviour - you may have a defective unit and may need to exchange it.
Good luck.
When exiting the stock Froyo Car Dock (I prefer this to the T-Mo version), my phone will almost always jump directly into the 'Expose' window mode of the five home screens, without hitting the home button or touching the trackpad. It's probably not related, but it does appear to be a strange glitch.
As for your exact problem: I haven't seen it happen with mine yet. Good luck.
It does sometimes to me. I thought im trippin.

Keyboard/screen acting funny.

I have a strange problem. Occasionally my phone will refuse to let me type a letter. It generally happens towards the bottom right of the screen. However that isn't always the case. For instance I wanted to press the letter N today but it refused to let me. It would press every key around it but it wouldn't press N unless I tried multiple times. I have a screen protector on if that makes a difference. It really is annoying. Is my screen possibly defective?

Sometimes this happens to me when gunk and dirt build up on the screen. Usually I just take my shirt and wipe it off real good and it works like it's supposed to.

Could also be something under the screen protector messing with the capacitance. Maybe a small air bubble that gets pushed out of the way when you repeatedly try tapping there. Just a thought. If it's not a hassle, I would try using the thing for a day sans protector and see if the issue replicates. If anything. it will eliminate the screen protector as a possible source of the problem. I'd gather, if you aren't rooted and running a custom ROM and the problem still exists in the absence of a screen protector, it is a manufacturing defect.

I am having the same problem and have had little gremlins like this come up. My phone is rooted by the way so if it is a manufacturing defect then I guess I am up the creek (voided warranty). It is annoying to say the least my t, y g h and v and b keys react as if they were not on the keyboard at all. Luckily the word recognition helps out but its frustrating. I have had more problems with this android phone than I ever had with my windows HD2. I miss that phone...no worries ever.
I would really advise you to exchange your phone for a new one if you are having problems with the touch screen this early on. Manufacturing defects like that don't go away and can only get worse. You can still return/exchange your phone if you are rooted, you just have to return it to stock before you do so.
This has been happening to myself and several others, and there have been a few touchscreen problem-related threads on here and other forums. the letters I can't type are fairly random but it usually seems to be t, s, and some vowels. it's either a software or hardware issue, since it is completely random and the problem fixes itself when you begin typing another word.
you can also try pressing the letter with your whole finger instead of the tip. it seems to work more often than pressing the letter 20 times before you flip out.
Anyone with this problem, is the touchscreen ever not responsive with anything else?

I thought about exchanging it but after reading all the issues other people have with replacement phones (or their first, even), I'm not sure I want to take the chance especially if it's a software issue.
Happens to me to, I am rooted and running a custom rom. It's a problem with the HTC keyboard. If it happens just hit the back button then bring the keyboard back up. Or install a new keyboard from the market like Better Keyboard.

Capacitive Buttons Glitch

Hey guys,
So I just bought a 2month used Infuse 4G originally locked to AT&T.
I've been noticing some issues and will try to explain it as clear as I can. Supposedly the person I bought it from said it was an OS issue...Hope you all can shed some light!
So pretend you're using your lovely android Infuse 4G and you're texting. All of a sudden you find yourself at the home screen, interrupted from your messaging. A couple of "huh's?" and "...wtf"'s you resume re-typing your text message.
Later you're on the highway driving to a new joint. The GPS signal has finally locked and you're cruising. All of a sudden, your GPS asks you if you want to end navigation. You look at your phone as if its a zombie and you quickly tap the 'cancel' option. Moments later, you notice the phone is back at the home screen and Google maps navigation is running in the background. You bring it back up. A few minutes later, the menus at the bottom come up. You tap the screen to make it go away and keep driving. This happens many more times while you drive even though you've already taken off the phone case.
So it seems like a ghost is touching the capacitive buttons. Not just one of those, ALL of them (Menus, home, search, back) while using the phone. It's not very frequent, but its enough to be aggravating.
Please advise, thanks!
Is there a case or screen protector on the phone? if so try removing and see if the problem persists

It's not an O/S issue .... well, it may be on YOUR device but not a general issue. If you do an Odin full restore to stock and still have the problem you now know why the guy sold it after 2 months.

None taken! I've actually left the phone w.o a case on a table. Its pretty scary to see your phone randomly show the menu from the home screen as if you pressed the button and then close that menu itself as if you were to press the back button...

Not sure what an Odin full restore is, but i'll look into it and give it a shot. Not surprisingly, my Infuse 4G is also among the few that have a GPS signal issue. The phone locks after 30 mins if Im lucky...
I didn't pay $434 for a phone that doesnt work properly/involves tweaking just to make simple features work...*sigh*

Nexus S randomly initiates Google Search

I have a stock unrooted i9020A running the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 OTA. I did a factory reset after the OTA came in and reinstalled everything from scratch.
Once or twice per day, the phone will just initiate Google Search (as if I had pressed the little magnifying glass capacitive button) and will repeatedly try to enter Google search even as I am repeatedly hitting the back button to exit Google search. The magnifying glass capacitive button will sometimes blink as this is happening.
It happens when I am using the phone, but I am 100% certain I have not come anywhere close to touching the magnifying glass button, so I know I am not causing it to do this.
It's pretty annoying because the phone basically becomes unusable for 30-60 seconds as it repeatedly attempts to enter Google search and I am fighting with it not to.
Anybody else experience this or have any suggestions?
Thanks.
This has happened to me! On my first NS, my back button would press itself, but it would flash as if I were pressing it. Unfortunately, I never found a solution as a few days later, the screen died, and I got my whole phone replaced as it was still under warranty.

I've been running into this problem as well recently and from the looks of things people experienced this way back to the gingerbread days. I've checked Google forums and people were plagued with this search firing on its own. It is reported by some that when the 3G is low it opens on its own and I can attest to that, that it is happening to me when my 3G it's low.
I had this problem a long time ago and I fixed it by flashing a different radio.
The one that worked for me was UCKF1-GRK39F (this is for my device i9020a). If you plan to change your radio, make sure you flash the correct one for your device.
I have this problem. Radios, ROMs, Kernels, nothing seems to cause or fix it. One thing I would do is lock it then wipe the screen entirely (thinking maybe my finger grease is causing it).. Come to think of it, I've also always had a screen protector on it as well, so that might have something to do with it.
The best solution I've found for mine is to disable the Search button in CM10.
