[Q] Will Inspire 4G Be Able To Be Unlocked - HTC Inspire 4G

I am currently with T-mobile, due to having bad credit I can't switch over to ATT which sucks. So I was wondering if anyone knew if this phone was going to be able to be unlocked because I really want to get it as soon as it comes out and use it on T-mobile. T-mobile phones suck and I've fallen in love with the Inspire 4g.

It will only work on edge on tmobile but I'm sure there will be a way to unlock it soon after release.

Really? T-mobile has the G2. That thing is sweet. They also have the MT4G, which is a mean CM7 machine.
I think both of those are as good as the Inspire, if not better for my purposes. But hey, the Inspire/DHD/Ace/Spade is a solid device that will surely be a winner.
Yes, I think it will be very easy to unlock the Inspire for use on other networks if that's what you want to do. As mentioned, it would yield edge-only data on T-Mobile.

The G2 is ok but all my friends have it so I want something different. Plus I like the 4.3 inch screen, I'm tired of this little screen on the MT3G, time for me to finally upgrade.

Switch from Captivate --> Which carrier & phone?

hey guys, first post around here and I have a question for the masses. Currently I'm on AT&T with the Captivate but we are going to have to switch off Ma Bell due to coverage issues at our house (we are going cell-only). My decision to get the Captivate earlier was easy: I had to stay with AT&T and it easily the best phone they had. And I actually like the phone now that I've gotten a Froyo build and the GPS works. But now that we are out of contract I'm unsure where to go and what phone to get (or to wait).
I know that T-Mobile and Verizon get the best coverage at our house and those are the two carriers I'm considering. As far as Android phones are concerned, if I'm coming from the Captivate, which phone do you think I would be most satisfied with? Droid 2? G2? MyTouch 4G?
Or should I wait for this Nexus S to come out? Having quick updates is huge and as a former iPhone owner, its nice to not have the carriers put their grubby mitts on them.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
nexus one, droid 2 or vibrant if you like the galaxy s series, but thats my opinion
T-Mobile has WiFi calling as well and that's a great asset to have. If you're 100% positive that T-Mobile has the coverage you need you should go with them and get a G2 or myTouch 4G.. the DEFY is nice but it's more mid-range. I would wait for FroYo before getting the Vibrant. Then you have Windows Phone 7 if you're looking at one of those.
See if T-Mobile is offering "4G" speeds in your area. If they are, you might want to grab the myTouch 4G or the G2. The G2 looks awesome IMO.
BTW, I used the GPS on a G2 and it was flawless

I vote for waiting on the Nexus S and at least see what it's about. If you get a phone and discover the Nexus S is a much better phone, you'll be kicking yourself for the next two years.
T-Mobile -G2
Verizon - Droid 2/ Droid X (depending upon the keyboard want/need. I'd go D2)
Sprint - Evo
I personally love Android, and at this point in time, can't imagine using another smartphone OS.
Get a Microcell
If it is just a coverage issue, get an AT&T Microcell. No contract required, just uses your existing minutes and internet connection. I have one at work due to zero signal...works like a champ!
second the microcell.
call ATT and politely tell them that you plan on leaving because the coverage inside your house is not up to par. when they send you to retention services, tell them that you'd stay if the coverage was better IN YOUR HOUSE and most likely they'll offer you a microcell for free
Sprint ---> EVO
Verizon ---> Droid X or 2 depending on your stance on QWERTY
T-Mobile ---> G2 or HD7 depending on your stance on WP7
AT&T ---> Cry
I like this option to start, I never thought of complaining to AT&T as a first step. Since I have other options, whats the worst that could happen, right? That broadband pipe is going to get some serious traffic . . .
For the other phone, I was thinking Droid X or G2. I love the design of the Cappy and in my opinion, the myTouch 4G and the Vibrant/Fascinate seem to be a step down. Most likely it will be the Droid X or waiting until the Nexus S "issue" is resolved. I'm a little skeptical of the G2 hinge after seeing it in store.
If you go with t mobile you can use your captivate until you figure out what phone you want. (if you unlock it)

T-Mobile exclusively uses the AWS 1700/2100 MHz frequency-band. Not compatible with other 3g services in the U.S.

that's what I thought. Same as using an iPhone on T-mobile. It'll work but you'll just be stuck on Edge like speeds.

EVO to inspire?

So thinking about switching from my EVO to the inspire. Any thoughts on the inspire and ATT.
The EVO you wish you had
On the inspire IT IS DEF A STEP UP! while i will probably see alot more from this device coming from my captivate(which i am selling asap) than you will from your EVO, you will see improvements in ram, screen type, and next gen processor, not to mention the unibody design which is BA. On ATT on the other hand you may lose something over sprint. Sprints 4g is faster and you don't have to deal with ATT. I hate having to deal with ATT on android, every other carrier has their issues and I am sure no matter who you talk to they prob hate their provider but I think that ATT is by far the worst. Hope that helps, if I were you i would stay with sprint and wait.

I have to disagree with AT&T being the worst i have had AT&T before it was cingular when it was AT&T mobility and have left a few times to see the" greener grass" but always come back. There network rocks for me and their phones are always the best. They also allow me alot of freedom with my plans, are there somethings i would change sure, but everyone would change something about their carrier.
i have had sprint and verizion and GTE back in the day oh ya and even celluar one (if you can rember back that far) and i have to say i have had VERY little problem with ATT other than getting decent hardware. when i do get their hardware i have very little problems with it. att for me.. besides with work i have a verizion phone.. not to happy with the service coverage.. lol cant even get a signal for them in my house!!
Well, if you want to get the Inspire, come down to the Oakhurst store and buy it from me =)
I left Sprint to work at AT&T, and I'll be leaving the EVO as well. Not sure if I'll be going with the Inspire or going with a canadian phone for the cheap data. The Telus Desire looks good to my wallet right about now...

be careful with the desire, Nexus or Telus Desire HD if AT&T has a version of that phone out of coming out they will make you pay regular data prices. I had the nexus S on edge they originally put the edge data package on my line and then a week later a system sweep added the 25 data on that line. If they have the imei in their system of phones and they recognize them as smartphones you wont be able to get around it
I'm not a fan of the EVO at all and I really, really don't like Sprint so I'd say it's a step up either way you look at it.
Well I made the jump. I have to say I love this phone more than the evo.

You won't be disappointed. The EVO 720p is ....ehh .. The Inspire is such a well built phone. In no way does this phone feel cheap. It's responsive at all times and aside from the AT&T Bloatware, I have no complaints.
-GPS is fine.
-Battery life is okay.
-picture/video is EXCELLENT
-HTC Sense is badass... Coming from vanilla
-Sound quality on videos is GREAT
-Earpiece quality is GREAT
-Voice clarity is GREAT.
No issues at all.
As far as AT&T's service. I experience fast speeds....I don't complain much and the 'dropped call issue' is no issue. I've never had a problem with AT&T's service... maybe they're just holding it wrong?

[Q] Trade Captivate for hTC HD2?

Depends on what your looking for bro.
The HD2 is a hacker's dream device though.
Get it if your bored with the captivate i guess?
Does it have AT&T 3G bands? Does it have features you want compared to Captivate? Those are questions I'd ask myself.
My friend has one and its ok. I love how crisp our screen. My friend likes my captivate better. But it only has T-mo 3g bands unless you get the Australian addition for At&t 3g bands. I say stick with the captivate especially since the Gingerbread leak just came out.

Actually the HD2 has full CM7 support which always has the latest gingerbread builds...so I'd just suggest playing around with it and if you like it then get it.
I would get an Inspire. You can't hack it as much, but it has full CM support. The ROM's have such a high quality feel. Plus it's 4G, or at least what AT&T conisders 4G.

is this unlockable for Tmobile **urgent**

My brother is about to buy this phone from one of his buddies for a cheap amount, is this phone unlockable for TMOBILE? I already have a Samsung Vibrant T959 (tmo version of SGS)
You mean the captivate? Yes, but you won't get 3g, just edge.
Check power button and rear speaker function. They arebig problems for some Captivates.
Not to be snob, but a quick search on "unlock captivate" would give you the required results.
And to make long answer short, yes but you need to be rooted. The app by Helroz works like a charm.

Sorry. I actually did do a search on the captivate forums of "unlock tmobile" and then i went on google to try to search but most of the links didn't work, some said it costs like 35$ and I found one youtube video which helps.
I just wanted a confirmation, thank you both.
Just making sure, One click root or Super One click root also works for captivate? (i'm going to go read the stickies now , I'm not a noob trust me i'm on ICS on my Vibrant hah, just a new device, so i thought maybe the instructions etc were different?)
thanks again guys.
Super one click, yes. Sgs Unlock by Helroz, yes. And don't lose the file that is created by the unlock app. It has the info you will need to lock the phone ,if you ever have a need to.
Don't forget the thanks button
been using it on Tmo for quite some time. It works flawlessly but as someone said already, it is just Edge. No 3g. That and no official updates. With the ROMs available here, who needs official update anyways? The rooting would void your warranty
Sorry to revive this thread, but Im going to I-Wireless (T-Mobile affiliate) from Sprint, and me and my wife just bought a pair of Captives off of XDA here. Do you think I will notice a big difference in speed going from Sprint's 3G service to T-Mobiles Edge? Sprint 3G is kind of spotty here anyhow, so Im mostly on 1G whenever in a building or house. Is Edge comparable to Sprint's 1G service, or better? Im hoping its better, as the Sprint 1G service is very slow!

There's probably about the same, anyway you look at edge network is unbearably slow lol

Edge is 2g...so theoretically it should be about twice as fast as 1g.
I just switched my Captivate to Edge and it's about as fast as my Sprint 3g was during the day.

Sprint to Tmobile

Ok, can someone help me. I want to switch to Tmobile because in my area Data is 10x faster with them. I have to bring my daughters as well. I'm an Android junky, they are not. My question is, will sprint I phone 4s work on tmobile? Tmo says I have to have sprint unlock them, then I can put Tmo sim in and we're good. Is that true? Will it work on Tmo 4g? And will Sprint unlock easily? Thanks. I'm just gonna wait on the ONE to switch mine, but my kids don't know the joy of Android

Don't think so
Sprint is on a PCS network and Tmobile uses GSM. They are totally different. You could bring an ATT IPhone to Tmoblie.
You should try to get your daughters away from those IPhones...
Good Luck
Yes, the 4S has a GSM SIM card that can be unlocked, but they're not still not going to want to let you use it on a domestic carrier - they will generally unlock for a customer in good standing for international use. Looking at some threads about people trying to get the Sprint 4S to work on T-Mobile it looks like way too much hassle requiring special equipment (at least at one point in time) and with poor results when it comes to function on T-Mobile's network. The phones also need to be jailbroken because Apple is cooperating with Sprint to not allow you to take the Sprint phone to another domestic carrier's network - this brings a whole new set of potential problems.
If you really want to try it, Google it and see what it would take on your part. Personally, I wouldn't want to do something like that with a kid's phone unless they were going to understand the process and be responsible and able to troubleshoot if things went wrong (same reason I wouldn't root a kid's phone for them without them understanding what's going on and the problems they might face and how to fix them).
Unless they're deeply invested in Apple's market, I'd sell the 4S's and get them N4's or S2's or something. This doesn't have to do with any personal dislike for iPhones - but for the fact that if you're going to go with T-Mobile their ability to get a signal and what kind of signal will depend on the local network and what work T-Mobile has done, even if you traded the Sprint models for factory unlocked ones. They may end up only ever getting 2g, they might have poor coverage due to lack of 1700MHz and more. And since they're your daughters I'd guess you want to make sure they can get a signal no matter where they are in case there's an emergency. I would explain things to them like adults - explain the reason you want to switch services and the impact on them if they choose to stay with an iPhone, show them how Android is really not all that different - teach them about making informed choices and to understand why they are making a certain choice.
Big THANKS that was the BEST Answer I could hope for
