[Q] Considering Nexus S .. some questions - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read through the other considering Nexus S posts and have some questions, and would really appreciate it if someone could take the time to answer them.
1) The phone doesn't have a MicroSD card slot but has 16G internal memory... Does that mean that 16G is used by the system, cache and data partitions? so ideally i only have about 14G of internal memory, which will end up getting eaten by bigger apps like some of the gameloft games etc? or is there an extra system partition?
2) follow on from the previous question: Does that also mean that when i plug in the phone using a usb cable as a mass storage, i can't use the phone because everything is on the one partition?
3) I've been seeing a lot of posts about various issues and bugs with the phone? are they really that prominent or is the phone just not as good as the Nexus One was?
4) How cheap does the phone feel? Because generally speaking Samsung phones feel plasticy and cheap. I have a HTC Desire and that phone actually feels like an expensive phone and i'm currently using the Nokia N8 and the same applies there. And before you point out to stay with the HTC Desire, I need a phone with 1700/2100 band and my Desire doesn't have that band (stupid mistake on my part to buy a cheaper phone from Asia )
5) Is the phone really worth it, or should i just wait a few months and get the HTC Pyramid when it comes on T-Mobile? This is a matter of opinion, but I've always have HTC phones and feel like they make good quality phones ... but I want to get a pure google phone, to escape all the bloatware ...
6) Follow on to the previous question would be ... or should i just get a Nexus one ... same as the HTC Desire but at least has the bands I need and also has the pure google phone experience.
Anyways, thanks for reading the wall of text and much appreciation to whoever who answers the questions.
Cheers

1) yes, you don't really get 16 GB, is more like 14.9 GB
yes, i'm having a hard time with Gameloft games, and my large collection of MP3, as i like to bluetooth stream to my car, and stereo mono head phone.
2) yes, anything that is on App2SD (installed the SD card) will not be accessible in mass storage mode, it's very annoying, and this also causes the losing Ring Tone BUG (Known Issue)
3) they'll be fixed eventually.... many of those has work around
4) the phone does not feel cheap at all, it's excellent quality compared to the Galaxy S line
5) this phone is the best you can get with direct Google upgrades and updates without Interference from Telcos
you don't get updates if Telcos don't pay (the problem with all other non Google phones)
6) Nexus One does not have 2.3 officially, only this Nexus S has 2.3, and it's confirmed will get 2.4

I suppose i can live with not having an ad card slot .. I just find it stupid that it is the ONE android phone without a slot...
Does your point 2 mean that that effectively, there is a smaller data partition that is not mounted as mass storage when i plug it in with USB .. Or does it mean that the system partition is big enough that the OS installs everything on that ... So, you don't lose the functionality of your phone while plugged in as storage ...
Thanks in advance for any more clarification

you only get 1GB of the memory for apps and internal storage. the rest of the 16GB is identical to an SD card in terms of functionality, its just internal rather than being a card.
i still would think 1GB is rather limiting in the grand scheme of things. why not 4GB, for large games and whatnot?

re: funtionality
it was already mentioned in the original reply that you do LOOSE funtuonality, when mounted as a USB stick, and the cause that you lose ringtones settings known bug

I much prefer the internal 16gb storage on the NS over the 16gb card I had in my N1. With the 1gb partition for apps I never have to worry about using apps2sd and I have enough space left over. At the moment I have ~10gb of music carefully selected from the master collection with plenty of room left over for games, backups and other media. Of course the read/write speeds on the NS internal memory is much faster than on the 16gb class 6 card I had in the N1. Unless you have to have your entire music/media collection on your phone at all times, you won't have a problem with 16gb internal storage.
As far as build quality, the NS is solid and even sexier than the N1. I love the N1 and build quality (especially the cold feel when the phone has been asleep for awhile and you touch the metal housing - greater conductivity and heat transfer from your hot hand to cold phone) but the NS feels very solid in hand, is more durable if dropped, lighter, and the all black look (especially combined with the deep dark black of the SAMOLED) of the NS is very sleek looking.
NS worth it, or should you wait? If you are a true android geek and would sell your first born to try out the 2013 version of android today then go with the NS. If you don't have to have the latest and greatest and aren't then a higher spec'd phone might make more sense. Then again, with the developer support around here there usually isn't much time to wait to get the new android releases ported, but on the other side if you won't root then a higher spec'd phone may not perform as well.
I sold my N1 recently. I think the NS is a better phone in many respects but I really loved the N1 and having owned it for a year already I was wanted to try latest edition.
Some really nice phones coming out that I would recommend to people but I'm not planning on picking up anything before the next nexus towards the end of this year that should sport a dual core processor etc. and the latest version of android. But ****, it's only February, new toy novelty wears off quickly.
I'm not proof reading this.

What are you talking about? As far as i know, nokia is as anti-android as most of us are anti-apple ... i highly doubt google will release a nexus phone with them when a nokia exec compared putting android on his phones to 'peeing in your pants to remain warm in the winter'
Post a link to this Nexus N or it never happened.

Nokia is actually siding with Microsoft for a weird change
i wonder why they are doing that, as they have a very strong hold with their own OS on their phones
hard core Nokia fans won't be happy switching to Microsoft for OS

That was a little joke....voila.
Nokia will jump on android, right after they fail so hard with this windows marriage. It's a shame really cause Nokia and Android were made for each other and Google knew it, too bad the big wigs at Nokia were too arrogant to play ball.

have you guys not followed the recent nokia news and read the leaked memo yesterday from the CEO? seems highly likely that nokia will in fact chose android or WP7 this friday, and abandon its symbian OS. interesting times!

Ya its pretty clear that Nokia is considering its options now especially that they're under new management. That internal memo leaked yesterday was just brilliant. Loved it.

I'm surprised it took them (Nokia) so long to realize. I mean anyone can see they've been on a sinking boat for a looong time now.

But it was a slowly sinking ship. Internationally, they'd held onto the top spot in phone sales up until very recently so they could just sit on their haunches and pretend that the phone world had moved on and becoming irrelevant.

I'll actually release both Android series and Windows series, and keep Symbian OS for the non Smartphone line of product
it's best to keep your paths open, and see which one sells better in the long run.
obviously anyone partnering with Microsoft would usually be subject to some dark clause, that you're not allowed to sell competitors products blah blah blah....
that actually was true in several occasion with the Wintel (windows + intel) partnership back in mid 90s and early 2000s, until AMD won the injunction with the governments in NA and EU, back then Dell, Compaq, etc were not allowed to sell non windows / intel stuff, or if they do, it had to be less than 1.9% market share and some stuff like that, those were the dark times in the IT industry

I don't know. Why don't you look at the dates of the two articles?

Well the only opinion on your question I have is for number 4. This phone feels no better or worse than my Vibrant does. I do think it looks a lot better than the Vibrant though, except the screen on my Nexus is bad and putting them side by side makes me want to throw the Nexus at the wall.
I have to say I miss TouchWiz though, mainly the music player, video player, and calendar apps. I can do without the rest.

Is the HD2 The best all around phone ever made?

I mean- it has the capabilities of 4G on TMO when released
dualboots android (perfectly stable and daily driver)
win mo 6.5 for buisness use/ more apps/ preference
top of the line specs... snapdragon, 4.3inch screen, dual led flash etc.
the only thing missing is an 8MP camera, but i would rather have a dualboot android than 3 more MPs.
This leads me to the question- is the HD2 the best all around phone out today?
Yes ....if it wasn't on t-mo
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I bought one the day they debuted and it was a pile of crap I went through three of them and didn't get one that didn't freeze on boot at least every other time, or delete all my information every other day. So no I do not believe it is the best all around phone, I would say thats the nexus one personally
It not only let you boot Android and WM, coming soon will boot WP7 too!
So it will be the first and only device booting 3 OS and specs are same or even better than newer devices.
I say yes: Leo is one of the best HTC devices ever made!
Dont forget Ubuntu and now: MeeGo
that´s right thanks!
I believe it might be...I own an N1, G2, iphone 4, and soon to be Glacier and I use my HD2 the most...Android is now stable as ever...Gingerbread will be on it soon...this phone has been a monster since it dropped..!!

I love my HD2. Wouldn't trade it for any phone out right now. I still get questions about it.
Agreed (^_^)
I would agree too, which is why I'm finding it so difficult to upgrade and part with now.
The HTC HD7 or HTC Desire HD are my current next thoughts (hopefully this month too), but can't say I'm excited about either of them and hoping for something a little more special to come out by anyone really (of course leaning more towards HTC as I have done so for over 8 years now).
Easily my favorite phone ever which is non-Android.
I was actually thinking about picking an HD2 up for the hell of it to throw Android on since I'm getting sick of the size of my HTC Aria...but I may switch from AT&T to Spring to get an Evo or Evo2.
I'm one of those guys who won't use a phone without a physical keyboard. I can't get used to screen-typing, I just don't like the feel of it. If the HD2 had a Pro variant with a slide-out, I'd own it already. I recognize it's an awesome phone though, just not for me.

+1. If there was a pro-version THEN it would be THE best phone ever to-date. I consider myself a VERY heavy user and the ROM I have seems to work like a charm.
The only reason I have to take the battery out is to turn it off as the on/off button has been reprogrammed!
Sadly, switching to a Dell Venue in two weeks... oh for the keyboard.
(Orb, AFAIK - and I could be wrong! - WinPho7 requires hardware mods for it to work on a HD2 so don't expect it)

So you're going the W7P route? The Dell Venue looks good, but not please with the 3.5mm jack on top (like silly iPhone thingys) and the keyboard looks like old school keyboards being far to small to actually use. Hmm... decisions... decisions?!

The jack on top means that when you dock it (which I'm guessing you will be able to) into a 3rd party desktop cradle you will still be able to listen to music - unlike my HD2's docks!
Don't know how the keys will feel.... I can always send it back if they are bad
I had a Rhodium before and must say I´m a real keyboard device person but got tired of the slowness of Rhodium, then got Leo and I´m still missing a real kb but in terms of speed there is no comparative.

I moved to T-Mo almost two weeks ago over from VZW. I had T-Mo before but coverage was far less back then.
I picked up the HD2 and really liked it but missed Android. I had several failed attempts to get Android to run. I then decided to separate my work and personal line with two phones so I grabbed the G2.
Now I re-flashed my HD2 to a Mega Leo Rom, was an Energy ROM. Then I made a second attempt at Android on a fresh reformatted sd and put on Mdeejay EVo Sense rom.
I was amazed how slick Android boots on HD2. Of Course there has been some bumps with a Flaky Data connection and it will not install Angry Birds from the Market. I was drawn to the HD2 because I had a Droid X and the larger screen was the attraction.
In the end the HD2 is a great device with all the options and have a Snapdragon processor makes it available to compete with current phones.
Android or W7P?

That maybe, but I've never used mine for playing music through a dock, I usually make my own custom docks and prefer to have the ability to pick up my phone from out of my pocket, with it being the right way up already and the jack underneath for easy usage generally, especially whilst seated on the TfL for example.
However, I'd image this is a 50/50 point, where half would prefer the jack on the bottom and vice versa.
CPW are bugging me weekly to upgrade to anything fro free and with just a 12 month contract, but stuck in what to go for. I'm only going to keep the phone for 3-4 months too and probably give it to my other half to use (whose a heavy Outlook user) so thinking a W7P, but I know she'd prefer Android with the newer HTC sense. I'm also not impressed enough with the Desire HD, so wondering if I should be waiting.
I just bought a Sony LiveView to go with an Android 2.0+ and can't find out if it will work with a W7P at all (too early to ask I guess), so thinking to go with a Desire HD with the Sony LiveView until a newer handset comes out that is much better (probably in a couple of months) and give the above to my Mrs to use, maybe?
I think I read that Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) needs 1.5Ghz to run well and in general smartphones are still some months away from that official speed.
best non android and android phone ever ... its the BEST FONE EVAAA !!

After 3 phones, the statistical odds are is that you're the one with the manufacturing defect.

Not sure what phone to get, All are flawed imo

I used to have Android but my Captivate broke, so now im using my brothers old 3GS until get a new phone, I have been looking around and looking at different phones/OS's and it seems all these OS's have annoyances with iOS being the least.
Symbian:Ugly Design, very subjective on that matter but still the UI for ME is ugly and could really use an update, hardly any apps, I look on the Ovi store and it seems like a joke compared to iOS and Android, but thats not what worrys me what worries me is if it will grow with more apps at the level the other OS's are because it seems like its not, 5800 and n97 had freezing problems and it seems like some people say the same for n8, as for some pros, nokias hardware are TOP NOTCH, the best imo, and I mean that DESIGN WISE AND LOOKS WISE, not cheap, well built and wont mess up your SD Card, actually can fix it...lol
iOSecent UI looks, simple overall deisgn and easy to use, good hardware, TONS of apps, not fragmented meaning I will always get updates, just overall works, locked down, cant use as mass storage, itunes is horrid..., but the good thing is that it does have workarounds for a lot of things, still annoying...
Android:very open UI which is nice but can also be bad, very fragmented, not all android phones get the updates and most stop getting updated after a certain update, sometimes feels like its in beta stage, can lag at times, lots of apps, mass storage, Custom UI's suck, actually similar to symbian imo
WP7:best hands down looking UI imo, very smooth and fast, not fragmented meaning all phones will receive the same Update, pretty much destroys your SD card unless you have a nokia phone to fix it lol, low amount of apps but growing quickly, xbox live.
So im just not sure what to get....N8 and E7 are masterfully designed and are perfect hardware wise imo, would be my #1 choice but the UI is ugly and feels old and there is not that many apps and games, what kind of updates will Nokia make for these phones? Will they change drastically? Then we have iPhone which im using now, which just works, has lots of apps and has great hardware to back it up (i4), but no mass storage and itunes sucks, both have workarounds though, Android is great and very customizable, has a lot of apps, but sometimes lags, and the fact that unless you have a nexus phone, updates are very it or miss which I find VERY annoying.., then we have WP7 which have good hardware (Samsung Focus), Fantastic looking and easy to use UI, but has a lot of missing features(update coming), updates will come to all phones unlike android, no mass storage, and ironicly a pretty closed OS...
Overall I gotta say Im leaning towards The N8/E7 or the Iphone4, I really really love Nokias Hardware, just not sure about the OS, especially my bad experiences with the Satio, N97 and 5800.....

I have ATT so I cant get the NS

Does anyone else think that MT4G should of been tha natural succesor of the N1?

It would have been a better fit. The only thing missing is NFC and this phone would've really shined with some vanilla flavor.

my feelings exactly.
Yeah, plus the battery life with the N1 and this, have no difference so yeah.
This is one of the top high end Android phone in the US right now and I'm feeling good about it.
oh yea!
i'm gonna be off topic with this comment, but imagine this scenario:
Monday morning, after a busy weekend with your loved ones, cuz of the holydays, you weak up to the sound of your beautifull, new, latest most fullfing android device on the market (my opinion at least, don't even make me start about NS,huuuumunnnnguusss disspointment). Your beloved phone, wich at times could be compared with a second or third girlfriend cuz of the amount of time an android/android based device fanatic actually spends on it,and maintains it, not only by himself, but by an unbelivebly well structured comunity...
Ok,moving on to the point of this scenario,so your MT4G is waking u up,cuz you gotta go to work, right?
Wouldn't it be nice if the first thing u see would be the MT4G in an apple like dock (just gotta admit they make beautifull designs for theyr devices), in a dock like mode in wich you have all the important info u need to start the day, like time, day, temperature, latest news and various updates, and THAN a MENU that gives u,from your bed ,barrely waking up, acces to the most imprtant ,if not all the devices in your home, through whatever wirelles way possible, alowing u to,bassically, customize your day,the same way you know you love to customize your phone...
Now thats where I hope GOOGLE and ANDROID are going, and at the same time beeing opened source and not invade ones privacy ...sorry google, only love for you,but had to say that!
That would be a great way to start your new year. You guys agree?

Nope, I completely agree with you and have thought this since day 1. HTC had the g1 and n1 so I was curious why Samsung got the ns.
Would have been nice if HTC would have thrown a SAMOLED2 in the phone, but as someone that moved from a N1 to the MT4G, this phone has been a great successor.
As for the NFC, it would have been nice, but to be honest, I don't see it taking off in the very near future in the US. And by the time it does, we'll probably have a very good replacement from T-Mobile.

LOL, I found the first paragraph very ammusing, haha..
I think the reason it wasn't is because TMO wanted to market this phone as theirs because of the video chat capability... and they wanted the consumers to associate a good phone with their name, where as the N1 was googles baby, and while you could look at it and say it was an amazing phone, you didni't really give anymore credibililty to TMO. This way, tmobile looks good to consumers. Looking at things now.... the nexus S blows, but I don't really blame TMO for that, I can blame google or Samsuck for really dropping the ball there...so smart move on TMO part, IMO
Little known fact. The MyTouch3G was going to be known as the Google Ion, and was going to be the precursor to the Nexus Line.
I think the MyTouchHD would of been a perfect phone for the second generation Nexus Line. How ever, they did just over clock the phone to 1.2Ghrz and the quadrant scores look AMAZING.
I think they undercooked this phone. It's so close to being perfect but Samsung doesn't know the difference between sh!t and Shinola

A Lot Ppl would not know that! That's like explaining something in Russian to a Jew. LoL..
The Mytouch 3G was used heavy as a dev device before the N1 came out. HTC has always been the device not by choice but for not having something else avail. The N1 was basically a revamped version of the Touch and Other Ideas that were on the Drawing Table.
The Nexus S by Samsung is by far hands down the best addition to the Nexus Line. I am also very glad that this is number two in the Line and no other garbage took its place.
Always Remember: The Nexus Line is Google's way of being open with their dev devices, hence "Pure Google". All other devices are literally bastard children that carry a logo that says "with Google" to represent their honorary build.
Sent From a Crop Circle... with a Nexus S
well it's a part of the original "mytouch" line phones ... it's a mt4g not a nexus touch4g. just saying, cause this phone is a successor of the mytouch3g. like how the g2 is for the g1. when the htc hero came out they were calling it a g2, but it wasn't the successor. plus this kills the nexus in so many ways! mytouch has so much custom UI put into it, talking about the slide & this, whereas nexus is just all straight android vanilla without all the bloatware. look at the nexus s, that's pretty much the successor since I heard they won't come out with a nexus 2. but all this is just IMO

No it wasn't. The Google Ion was the developer version of the HTC Magic which came out at least a year before the N1. Never seen any reference to ION being relaunched at the MT3G.
The magic and the mytouch are the same phone. The magic shipped with 288mb ram, the mytouch, until February 2010, shipped with 192mb. Aside from the color, I believe there is no difference between the ion and the magic. Its just that the ion was never on sale to the public, unless I'm mistaken.

There are two different MyTouch3G phones. The PV32A and the PV32B, The "A" variant is a Google Issued phone. That is the dev phone.
I got the MT4G on release date and I'm still in awe at how well built, and feature packed this device is. If they released this with AOSP and called it the Nexus Two no one would be disappointed. I can't believe that T-Mobile of all carriers released such a high end, future proofed device. Most devices are lacking in some area, but the MT4G isn't lacking at all. It has everything and more. I love this device so much, it's the first android handset I've owned where I haven't had any complaints with it.
There must be some political issues behind Google going to Samsung for the Nexus S and not HTC. HTC makes such better devices. You have the G2 and Desire HD which are industrial business looking devices, then you have the MT4G with a completely different design than anything else on the market and it appeals to almost all demographics. Whether you're a first time smartphone buyer or a seasoned Android veteran you will appreciate this device for what it can offer to you. I'm the latter and I have my MT4G hooked up with Gingerbread (complete with the NS screen off animation) and overclocked to 1.8Ghz. What more can you ask for?
The release of the Nexus S really changed my mind about Google and how they view the Nexus family. I don't think Google gives a **** about the average consumer so they don't include things like HD Video Recording, a Notification Light, FFC, Micro SD Card Slot for people with tons of music and videos etc. Instead they give you the bare bones and honestly, the only reassuring factor for the price is the idea of getting tons of Google updates first. That's all fine and dandy if the phone is priced right. $580 is simply too much for a smartphone that lacks so many features regardless of how you want to argue about it.
Right now the MT4G is the top android device on the market. Even when the first dual core devices come out I will still stick with my MT4G until something comes along that is the successor to it. The next smartphone that I make my daily driver will have to surpass the MT4G in every area; hardware, camera/video quality, screen, design etc.
I've been 100% happy with my purchase since day 1. This is the first time I can say this about any android device I've owned.

The Russian Jews I went to school with would probably say "That's like trying to explain something to a person who uses extraneous LoL's" or more likely they'd avoid your presence entirely.
The rest of what you said made as much sense.
What would have helped is if you said "No, it wouldn't be the natural successor..." or "Yes, it would have been..." to start out with.
I sure would have preferred the MyTouch 4G as the new Google phone. It has all the extra pieces many phones don't have that a dev might want to test such as a FFC and 4G. Superior to the Nexus S, it has a memory card slot and working GPS (I assume the GPS on the Nexus S is as good as on any (other?) i9000 series phone).
The beautiful (and tough) screen on the Nexus S might be nice, but it doesn't much matter to a developer testing something, n'cest pas?
Case and point for what its worth... I wanted the NS so bad when I heard about it (I had the G1> MyTouch Fender> then finally MT4G. I'm sorry but that NS is a pain in the **** to get when I can just drop by TMobile and pick this one up. F best buy for cell phones I like t mobile stores I pay them I go to them. Plus this phone runs tits rooted and oc'd @ 1.6-1.7 with no crashes at all ... I've had one crash @ 1.8 big woop. And I know for a fact I haven't been able to get this phone to stutter at all it does everything flawless and fast bottom line.

The "A" variant is the HTC magic, released in the UK and in Canada with Rogers. For some reason t-mobile decided to go with the "B" for North America at launch. All Mytouch 3G phones built after February 2010 are A as well. Main difference is the amount of available ram.

I know lots of Russians, lots of Jews, and several Russian Jews. I'm Jewish and 2/4 (both parents were 1/2) Russian myself.
I just wish everyone could speak English at a respectable high school level so I don't cringe when I read some of the posts around here. English as a second language has a free pass though; learning a second language is HARD.
Back on topic - I totally agree that it must have been political. HTC seems to be the Android leader so Samsung getting the NS came out of left field in my eyes. Not to mention the hardware being blatantly inferior to the MT4G, ie; HSPA+, additional RAM, SD slot. I still don't get that.
Also never understood why the US got the inferior 32B. The entire reason I rooted that thing in the first place was so I could overclock it to try and run Navi and Pandora at the same time. I should have bought a N1 in the first place.

[Q] Best phone period

Im looking into picking a new phone, but like most of us I have a hard time deciding whats better to get after having the phone I thought was the greatest. So I Want to see what phone to get next, or what devices to consider, as well see what features to look for next, I was just happy when the Droid inc (1GHz processing power, 8MP Cam, and 512 MBs RAM) was announced and I still am when I look at and think about it. SO my question to the entire Community, What is the best phone, OS, ROM, Features, and why?
Phone EX: Nexus one, HTC EVO, HTC Touch Pro, LG Quantum
Custom built EX: HTC HD2 Running Windows phone 7,
Motorola Droid Running (Custom ROM or Stock)
or even a concept phone; 10MP Cam, Android 2.2, dual core, qwerty keyboard, etc.
Current:
PhoneInc, ROM:Incredible RMX 2
Tablet:Asus Transformer, ROM:Revolver
the only 2 phones worth considering are:
SGS2
Nexus 3
or wait another months for the next best phones to come out, but by then you can wait another 3 months, and then even better phones are around the corner
i made a spec sheet for iOS/Android/Windows phones in my sig.
please feel free to check it out and contribute if you can.
thanks.
hopefully this will help you in getting the right device this holiday season.

Nexus 3 is what I'm waiting for.. .iphone 5 is sounding real sexy too at the moment. Seems like it will be the thinnest phone once it releases.on top of its sexy teardrop all aluminum design reminiscent of the MacBook air from what I've read (all speculations)Too bad ios sucks!
Sticking to android and probably give wp7 a try once better phones are out.

As much as I dislike HTC, the HTC titan is in a league of it's own as far as phones go. With processing power, it's not the absolute best. The thing is though, that only matters on an OS like android where it will only run remotely decent even with a top-end processor. Aside from that it sports a massive screen, ffc for video chat, solid body, up to 32 gigs internal, and most importantly windows phone 7. I'm sorry, but I don't buy high-end hardware to put an OS on it that was and is intended for crap hardware. My OS needs to keep up with me. Can I customize my phone to the point that it is unstable, slow, but reflects me? No. I can add numerous tiles with all kinds of pictures on a dynamic UI which totally beats a background image for me. Android is great if customization is your ONLY concern, for quality, speed, social integration, gaming, business, media, and pretty much anything else you'd be ripping yourself off if you went any way but the windows phone 7 way.

I honestly think that the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best phone out there, befor i bought it i read tons of comparisons and articles

Whats the MIUI phone? the phone I used to want (though probably outdated now) was called the first else phone, and it was only sold in the middle east, but everyone seems to be on samsung now, I just cant be excited about that, esp since everything I would buy from them usually looks alot better than it preforms. The two phones that top my list now thou would be the Sensation XE, and the Rhyme(almost to the point where the color doesn't even matter)
But I have heard alot of good about the nexus prime. I just feel like if I actually knew how how to program it would be of that much more use to me.

Stay away from WM7 on an HD2 if you want the card slot to survive. It will kill the card slot. Mine, I can run WM7, but if I try to flash Android or other ROMs, the card slot won't work. WM7 runs from the card in the slot excessively and wears it out. WM7 just isn't worth it.
Imho I have used the Samsung epic and also the EVO 4g (not the 3d) and have noticed that the EVO is by far the best one out of the two... Also the most customizable in the sense if being able to switch from sense 3.0 to 3.5 and to asop...

well the only exception to your analogy is the sgs 2 or a totally stock/cyano/miui rom, according to my experience from my hd2 and captivate days. If it's sense, you can expect it to lagg, even when you have nothing on your homescreen.
That aside, I have to agree, WP7 is a great piece of work. Micro created a smooth, simple UI/OS that competes with apple in all those terms and maybe even better in some aspects. What Micro is "copying" from Apple is making phones that run on the "same specs". And the advantage to that is any app placed on the market will be able to run on all WP7 phones, unlike some android apps, which will work on a certain phone but not another.
What i don't like however is that really, all of them look the same (UI/appearance). It makes me feel like i don't have anything special. Which is the same with an iPhone(a stock one atleast). Atleast with android I can customize my status/notificaton bar, change my launcher layout/appearance, change certain effects e.g. overscroll glow to bouncy, change my lockscreen, change my icons, change my settings/menu appearance, which overall means i can have a phone that's different than the next or atleast appears different. (note also the lagg that you state coming from all this customization was atleast non apparent to me in my hd2 days, and for me now in my sgs 2)
Now I may be wrong about WP7 as i haven't even checked on the hacks/customization available since my HD2 days running WP7.

Who cares. switch if you want...or don't. If you aren't computer inclined to tinker with stuff and want something that sort of works for what the average person wants in a phone, then switch. However, most people won't admit it, but by the time they ask someone else for advice, they already made up their mind. They just want someone to agree with them that they are right. Only reason I would ever want a fruit based device is if I plan on porting something I develop for Android to it for testing. Would I use it outside of development? No way. However I don't care what platform it is when it comes to selling something (except the amazon app store, won't even put something on there).
well, if your an apple kiddie, why'd you drift away in the first place? you need to look deep into your soul and question your loyalty to apple.
that and seeing as how ios and android are completely different, it's like saying "should I get a girlfriend or a boyfriend?"

well the reason i got the htc thunderbolt was because of the 4g and how android was customizable but ive had the phone for 8 months now and the 4g drains the battery so much and ive never had an iphone my first phone was the motorola cliq so im not an apple kiddie
I just recently switched from carrier.
I was on T-Mobile and now am on Vodafone.
I now have HSDPA+ and that does indeed suck more battery then the HSDPA from T-mobile i had before.
Myself I can live with having my device with the data being turned off.
I'm not that hooked on being informed 24/7 about everything.
So that saves me more juice, so I can listen to more Music over Bluetooth.
I've never used an iPhone on a day to day basis so i really have no idea how that handles battery on a good 4G network.
But iPhone is over the hill and it now has good competition of great new and sexy devices.
Maybe Nokia makes a good come back with good battery time, but there's more out there then just the iPhone as an alternative.
Also there could always be something to tweak, from updating your phone's radio to a better suited version (not necessarily the newest).
Or Checking if there's applications getting stuck in sync or keeping your device from deep sleep to managing your syncing schedules.
Keep it clean guys, be Cool like me
Galaxy Nexus when it comes out, gonna be a hot phone.
well i rooted my phone and i dont like how my phone wont work with so much stuff, and i changed the radio to a battery conserving one and i see no difference and im also tired of sense and im waiting for a port of ics for the htc thunderbolt

Yeah, I think any connection upgrade for data on a phone does that from observation. It did when carriers were going from 2g to 3g as well. It'll get better over time as phones improve I am sure. One generally doesnt need 20-30+Mbps anyways to view a web page so toggling works okay for me.

For me, the biggest reason is that Android is an open infrastructure.
Instead of the choice of a single phone (choice of iPhones only because the generations overlap), I can choose from many. Instead of only apps vetted by a manufacturer at there own whims, there are multiple sources available. Not even a need for an app store. Apps I buy can be carried to other/different phones. The competition between manufacturers means more choices - if you want a hard keyboard, you can have that. Want HDMI out? Available. Want removable memory? Yep. Replaceable battery for extended time away from power? Got it. Ruggedized phone? It's out there.
Some people don't want to get involved with technological decisions - 1.5 GHz? Dual core?, etc. The iPhone is great for them - just buy the latest one.

Can you elaborate on "phone wont work with so much stuff", you have more access to what you can do when the phone is rooted. Are you meaning the vzw apps?
My suggestion, install CM7, if you still want a new phone after using that wait for the galaxy nexus.
Since verizon started carrying the iphone 4 back in feb, I just this past week sold 2 iphones for the first time.
Most people only want the phone because "my <insert person> has it". The fact that 4g is faster, battery is built in to iphone, you can not add more storage, you have to deal with apple primarily (closest store here is 1hr away), no adobe flash, etc.
Everyone (minus 2) I've sold a phone to since that phone launched goes for android, I allow them to make their educated decision based upon the facts, the two I sold were to apple fanboys who had to have Siri.

that's just how technology is. wether you get a car, computer, phone, etc.. new stuff is always around the corner.
with android as you mentioned, since it is open and different manufacturers are constantly releasing new phones it can be a bit overwhelming. whereas apple has their stuff on lockdown and since it's just them releasing things you don't see new stuff as often.
that doesn't mean however that whatever you have currently is crap just because something newer came out. for instance, even the Thunderbolt... its not the latest & greatest but it still holds up fine. and yes, the battery issue is with all 4G-LTE phones.
to sum thimgs up though;
Android = much more support(3rd party, development, etc), more customizable interface
iOS = incredibly simplistic, no 4G support period
I have an ipod touch that I connect in my car & use just for music. I hate itunes with a passion though and wish I could just copy/paste tracks instead of "sync". The only reason I use it instead of another mp3 device is because when it's connected to the stereo it gives better sound output then anything else... and when you spend $2,500 on your sound system, that matters big time. I could never see myself owning an iphone though.

Used to be able to do that until Apple locked out any chance of third party firmware development past the ipod video and 2g nano, so no more rockbox/ipod linux.
ok thats true i guess ill stay with my htc thunderbolt and just go out an buy a extended battery

and furthermore, I'll have you know that I have the 2750mAh battery for the TB and with "heavy use" I go through that in about 4 - 5 hours.
before you say anything though, on my ipod touch, I can also blow through that battery in 4 - 5 hours aswell.
I guess it just depends on how 'intense' your usage is.
