[Q] Help Needed About ROM - General Questions and Answers

hey guys, i am Kenny Spark, if you aint heard of me already, im a GSC Coder and script MW2 Files to hack the game. I can code in several languages including c++
i am new to all this stuf and need a helping hand.
2 days ago i downgraded my HTC Desire's Rom to stock Android 2.1
i then rooted the device using unrevoked on linux (backtrack 4)
then i began to flash custom roms to my phone but im now stuck when i try to flash RCMixHD v2.0 ROM to my mobile.
According to the developer, this rom uses a script know as data2ext which i think requires something to be done with the sd card. i think this has to be done
Fat + 1GB Ext4 + 0.3GB Ext4 + 0.1GB Swap
i know this means partitioning my sd card but i really have no idea on how to do it. i have a 4gb sandisk sd card so if anyone could explain i would appreciate it very much
i flashed the A2SD+ Version and it worked but the data2ext version just hung on the htc screen (i diddnt do anything to my sd card)
also do i need a certain radio or kernal? Thanks alot guys

Apps2sd for Magic

Hi,
I am new to Magic/Sapphire. I only got mine today but have had a G1 for 5months.
Is it possible to do Apps2sd on any of these roms?- i have rooted it and am running Skittle's ion port for 32A. Can the roms be setup to run aps2sd the same way Cyanogen's rom does or do we have to do it old skool with symlinks?
I haven't seen any posts on this so thought i would put it out there...is it really necessary is my next question- do we have enough memory as it is?
We have bigger ROM on Magic, so no need to make app install on SD to reduce performance and usable life of your SD card

PLEASE HELP!? Apps2SD via Cyanogen Recovery 1.4

I have been searching the forums for the day trying to figure out how to set up apps2sd partitions on my G1. I am running Cyanogen Mod 4.0.4 along with the Cyanogen 1.4 recovery image. The forums have me all confused. I am trying to determine if I can do apps2sd partitions with the Cyanogen 1.4 recovery image...if so how? A link to a good guide or video would be appreciated.
I have read a number of "How to Apps2sd" guides that are catered to earlier Cyanogen Mods that require using the Apps2sd app and ADB to set up an ext/3 partition. However some forums state that with the Cyanogen 1.4 recovery image you do not need to use the Apps2sd app or ADB...is this true?
I need some direction on how to set up apps2sd with Cyanogen 4.0.4 and the Cyanogen recovery image 1.4. Also how much memory should I dedicate for each partition? I am expecting a Transcend 8gb class 6 card anyday, but want to try the apps2sd process with one of my class 2 cards for practice. I am familiar with the rooting process so have some basic knowledge. The whole Apps2sd process is somewhat foreign to me.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! -RotoRooted

Root Without Custom Build

So i am planing on selling my G1 to a friend, now I told him I will root his phone, but heres the thing, I want to unlock it for him since he uses at&t, that I can already do
But I wish to root his phone but not have a custom build, Since most Iv tryed crash more then the phone should and he has a 2gb sd card so he can't do apps on sd
is it possible, and once again ill state it,
1)unlocked
2)root w/ superuser
3)No custom build or if I have to,do a good non apps on sd thats very very very stable
4)Donut (latest android version)
it is very possible to do app2sd on a 2g card. it's not the best, but it is extremely possible. i ran my phone with a2sd on a 2g card for several months and it worked perfectly fine.
I dunno if this will work, and I might be totally just talking crazy, but if you didn't partition your sd card, i don't think it should use a2sd, since i guess to run it, it looks for that second partition? So just like a regular stock sd card without any other partitions should let him use just the regular memory. And on that note, enomther's roms are pretty close to stock, and i'm sure your friend wouldn't mind those extra little additions. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps!

sounds about right to me. if there's no ext partition on the card, it can't use apps2sd.
doesn't enomther have just a base donut with just root? no fancy stuff?

well, I think there's under the hood stuff to make it run a bit faster, but apart from that, it's pretty close to stock. And like I said, his friend shouldn't complain about the extras, or else maybe he doesn't deserve it. lol.

These are standard OTA roms w/ root.
That should cover all you need.

And what is a problem to use app2sd on 2gb card? I use stock 1gb sd card for a2sd and everything is working fine.
Even if your friend only runs a 2gig card with just a 150meg ext partition still better than whats on the phone itself and is hardly a noticable loss.
As already mentioned on here Enomthers base rom and the 2.3.3 ext pack are pretty close to stock with a few improvements and I've been running it hard for over a month and never had any problems or issuse's and if you use Amon RA's 1.5.2 recovery image your blazing fella. I switch roms like my underwear at the moment and the nandroid + ext backup on the recovery image brings me back to exactly how is was before switching! Tis genius!

for everyone else. thanks much

EX2 to EX3? benefits?

Hi, im running CM6 RC2 on Mytouch Slide, I partitioned the SD using Rom manager into 32-512 format (8 GB SD card)/
However, Im thinking about replacing Clockwork Recovery with Amon Ra's latest Recovery So I can have access to the EX2 To EX3 and EX3 to EX4 cache thing.
Now just to let you know, Im not really that tech savy, I don't really know what that does but I think it's supposed to make your phone run faster?
Can anyone please help me and explain if this is necessary? What does the EXT2 To EXT3 do? Will it improve my performance?
Im just really confused about the whole thing, I thought partitioning your SD card alone is what automatically makes your phone have more memory, and now I hear about EX2 to EX3, Im confused. HELP PLEASE.

[Q] HELP with Apps2SD on the LG Optimus One

I've tried the current and several previous versions of Darktremor's Apps2SD and don't have any luck getting it to work with my Optimus One phone. I've got a 8gb card partitioned with 7gb of fat32 and about 1gb of ext3. Before each install, I wipe everything in the phone-data & cache. After flashing the zip file, the phone boots fine and after I run the app, it reboots the phone and the phone just goes into a loop displaying the android animation.
Does anyone have similar experience? Any help would be appreciated.
I'm having the same problem, or sort of...
Iv'e installed darktremor's apps2sd, foloowing every step including partitioning the SD, but after i installed several apps and internal space decreased drasticaly.
I would like to know it it works with LG P500/Optimus One stock rom v10a with root?
thanks
I gave up trying and did it the hard way. Cooked up my own rom and included the apps2sd feature, flashed it to the phone and now it's working great. It was a real leap of faith though. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, unless of course you don't care about losing the use of the phone. Anyway if you cook up your own rom, you should be able to get this working properly.
