2011 Devices - General Topics

Well I decided to compile a list of things to watch for in 2011, I have also included a poll so please vote!
1) Motorola Xoom
2) Motorola Atrix 4G
3) Droid BOINC by Motorola
4) Sony NGP
5) HTC pyramid
6) Samsung Galaxy S2
7) LG Optimus 2x
8) LG Optimus Black.
9) HTC Desire 2
10) LG Optimus
The Sony NGP already caught my attention because of its overkill specs:
5 inch OLED capacitive touchscreen
4 core ARM Cortex-A9 processor
4 core SGX543MP4+ graphics processing unit
Rear touch pad
A front camera and a rear camera
Stereo speakers, and a microphone
GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity
Sixaxis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer), three-axis electronic compass, built-in dual analog sticks, 1 D-pad, a set of standard PlayStation face buttons (Triangle, Circle, Cross and Square), two shoulder buttons (L and R), a PlayStation button as well as Start and Select buttons
Any other devices you people are anticipating, post below and let me know, I will then update the list. Also please include links.
I will shortly add specs and pictures(if available) to the list.

Which one?

I plan on selling my Glacier and getting the Pyramid when it is released...if it's worthy. So far the rumors sound good. 4.3 inch screen, 960x540 resolution, 1.2Ghz dual core Snapdragon, HSPA+. Can't wait.

Neither can I. It might just replace my HD2, but I think I have become to attached to my HD2 to sell it or anything.

I see you left off the LG Optimus 2x(my next phone) and the LG Optimus Black. Both arriving soon.

Updated the list

HTC Pyramid will replace my Vibrant if it actually does end up on T-Mobile. I was going to go with the Optimus 2X, but I'm not sure how good LG is about Android updates. HTC has already proved themselves.

HTC Desire 2 and LG Optimus 3D are comming out aswell
The Pyramide might be my next phone if the specs annouced are true. Was about to fall for the Atrix but seing the dock price ....But anyway i m pretty happy with my desire HD for now so i can wait a couple of month if it is to get a beast
And HTC gives us the damn gingerbread update already

updated, if we get enough devices i will add a poll and see what people want.

I'll be snatching up a LG Optimus 2X day one, probably! Can't wait for it's US release.

I plan on selling my Nexus One and getting the HTC Pyramid as soon as it arrives!

I cant wait for my next upgrade!

I simply love Samsung device

it is gonna be the Pyramide if it is comming in beginning/mid Q2 and of course the NGP on holidays season unless there are news of the PS4 by the end of the year

Nice, I want a Atrix but i cant afford one. so im currently trailing a HD2 purely for its flexibility and community

I can't wait to play with a xoom, looks so much better than an ipad!

I cant wait for the htc inspire to be released... it will be my 1st android phone WHOOO!! cant wait..

htc evo 2 i guess or sprint iphone 4

Why is the NGP on this list? It has nothing to do with phones, tablets, or any of the OSes represented on xda. That said, it looks incredible, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Rumours: HTC Ace GSM version of EVO

The Sprint HTC EVO 4G in CDMA/WiMax flavor may be getting re-tooled for GSM networks and carriers as a device that has been rumored as the HTC Ace. The Ace will sport the same 4.3-inch touchscreen as the EVO 4G and will also be an Android handset. Because the device is speculated to carry Android 3.0, otherwise known as Gingerbread, it's unclear whether HTC will also bundle HTC Sense UI on the Ace. The Ace, being a more modern hardware build than the EVO 4G, will be pushing the envelop with HD recording, which is slated for 1080p instead of the EVO 4G's 720p HD video captures.
Here are the complete rumored specs for the Ace, according to Android Spin:
•Android 3.0
•4.3 in. display (This display will be a HTC’s own rival to the Super AMOLED display)
•1.5 GHz processor
•8 MP camera and 1.3 MP front facing camera
•Much better battery
•1080p HD recording
Also, speaking of the HTC EVO 4G, the device will be getting a successor as well, code named as the HTC Sabor.
It looks like with the high buzz surrounding large-screened devices such as the EVO 4G, the Droid X, and the Galaxy S, manufacturers are inching away from the 3.5-inch or so form factor to the 4-inch and more category with smartphones, offering a nice compromise between a smartphone and a tablet for a good mixture of talk and surf.

Sweet find, thanks orb!! I can't get to the source link here at work, but just the parts you included above have my mouth watering!!
EDIT: so the ironic thing is, that if I got that phone, I'd be hoping for someone to get WM 6.5+ running on it
i wish it actually comes out! sucks being on ATT lol
engadget are reporting that the Ace is now called the Desire HD and the specs are slightly more dissapointing than whats reported here. It has the regular 1 Ghz Snapdragon which is lame (bad GPU). But they're also saying it has an aluminium unibody like the Legend.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/rumored-htc-desire-hd-specs-surface-4-3-inch-screen-8-megapixe/
As nice as it sounds, I am worried that the aluminium unibody might push the price up to the iPhone 4 territory.
why??????!!!!!! why??????!!!!!! oh why??????!!!!!! Can't i get a phone like this but WITH A HARDWARE KEYBOARD!?
I'm prepared to pay A LOT off contract for one and I know i'm not the only one..
I feel the same frustration mate, hope we can find something at the end of 2010...
i wish it actually comes out! sucks being on ATT lol

nexus s vs optimus 2x?

hello! i want to replace my desire hd with another phone.
i am stuck between two models. which should i buyand why?
i know that optimus 2x is more powerfull but, i've seend that nexus s is much faster.
i'm not entirely sure that my opinion is based on anything other than love for my nexus, but yes: NEXUSSSSSSSs
The Nexus S looks faster because it has a way more powerful GPU which directly translates into smoother transitions.
G2x dual core A9 CPU. POS GPU.
Nexus S? Single core A8 CPU. Amazing SGX540 GPU.
In reality? They probably perform the same however stock Android gives the Nexus S the edge, that is until dual cores are "properly supported" in Android (if that even ends up helping, really).
Not to mention Gingerbread was coded for the Nexus S with optimizations for the Hummingbird chipset in mind. And did I ever mention OTA's straight from Google? And Super AMOLED...
Nexus! Only because its a N family member and there will be ton of development for it.
I would get G2X just because it has a dual core so it's more future proof compared to the Nexus even though it will get updates, it's a single core. Also the G2X is stock Froyo also and is receiving the GB update very soon. Also CM has added G2X to their supported list I believe.
2x is a failure, there will be another model out from LG which means it's not going to be supported anymore once new one comes out.
Nexus S is one of the Nexus family so you will get constant updates til you get a new phone.
BTW: what about Atrix?

I don't know about the new LG phone but I heard the atrix is a pos. The LG would probably be better than the Atrix.

isn't the lg 2x built with tegra2 from nvidia?
is tegra2 worse than sgx540?
nexus s, yeaaaay my dream phone
Disire HD is COOL i use hd2 its als realy nice phone you can play arround with multiple option
i think if you have 3 for 1...you just buy an atrix
media center on tv and phone
linux on tv
and android gingerbread on the future
tegra 2 and 1gb amout of ram =) more than other device.....
Just get the Optimus 2X. It's dual core, and it supports games designed especially for Nvidia Tegra 2 phones.
I have had both the Optimus 2x and the Nexus S and I would say go with the Nexus S, the design is better, its faster as it runs Android 2.3.3 on the other hand the LG is running FroYo and it's an SLCD screen and uses ALOT of battery life.
The battery life on the Nexus S is better and would use less battery with the screen as it is AMOLED.
Without a doubt, choose the Nexus S, you would only be dissapointed with the LG Optimus 2x, I traded mine in for a Galaxy S II and it was the best decision I ever made as far as smartphones go.

desire hd is good enough not to swap it with a nexus s.
but when it comes to lg optimus 2x or any other dual core , go for the dual core phones.
nexus s is easy to take care of.
go for nexus s,it has lot of development support
Optimus 2x - HDMI out, miss that feature in my current epic4g
// this message is nonsense 8/8. Hopefully now I can get "search in thread".
I vote for the Optimus (sorry but me as well is just posting for getting to 10 posts)
I love my n1, but the nS is a cheap piece of plastic crap. I really dislike most of Samsung's lineup in fact. Get the g2x and root it. That way u can have dual core and Gingerbread.
not even 720p vs. 1080p video recording
1 GHz vs 1 (dual) GHz
Gingerbread vs Froyo
non removable storage (and only 1 GB for apps) vs. removable storage
Super AMOLED vs Super LCD (I prefer LCD). AMOLED screens aren't exactly the best with whites at all, in fact, they kind of suck with whites (unless it is Super AMOLED Plus, but that is clearly not on the Nexus S).
7.2 mpbs vs. 21 mpbs
Gimmick glass vs. Gorilla glass
HDMI output on the G2x.
I would wait for the HTC Sensation seeing that it actually has decent specs and I kind of want it.
But if you are impatient... Go for the G2x just because it has specs that aren't last gen.

Google Working with each OEM

So only one OEM could get the Nexus name, but google will work with each OEM to make their flagship device, so far these have been leaked, and i believe these are their flagship; Imagine flagship releases from Motorola, HTC, and LG with Ice Cream Sandwich available on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint all at practically the same time… in addition to a Google Nexus handset from Samsung. The summer’s going to be hot, but it looks like the fall might get even hotter. ( http://www.bgr.com/2011/06/27/googl...tured-by-samsung-possibly-dubbed-nexus-prime/ )
LG-LG K: This one is the big daddy. There's no render of the K available yet, but according to Pocketnow it features a "true 720p HD display" and may carry the model number P930. Also said to feature a 4.5-inch display and pixel density similar to that found on the iPhone 4's Retina Display. (http://www.phonedog.com/2011/07/22/...-7-lineup-for-the-second-half-of-2011-leaked/)
Motorola-Details on the Dinara are still light, but so far it's rumored to be packing an "HD" display that's larger than the DROID Bionic's 4.3-incher, Texas Instruments processor, 13-megapixel camera, VGA front-facer, 1GB RAM, a non-removable battery, lock button the right side, and a body that is "identical" to the Bionic but will be both thinner and lighter than the DB. It's said to currently be packing Gingerbread, but it's not clear if it'll come to market with that version of Android or if it'll be bumped up to Ice Cream Sandwich in time for launch. The Dinara is reportedly currently being tested on Verizon, although Droid-Life notes that it could eventually land on multiple carriers. Finally, it's said that the Dinara is slated to launch sometime this winter.(http://www.phonedog.com/2011/07/19/...inter-with-hd-screen-and-13-megapixel-camera/)
Smaung-a monster 720p -resolution display, and we have now confirmed with our source that the screen itself is branded as a “Super AMOLED HD” display. The branding confirms our suspicions that Samsung will indeed be the manufacturer. We have also confirmed that the processor in the upcoming device will be an OMAP4460, just as we originally reported. Hit the jump for more. ( http://www.bgr.com/2011/06/27/googl...tured-by-samsung-possibly-dubbed-nexus-prime/ )
i will update the post with each other i believe, or when others are confirmed
This sounds good.

htc and samsung already been there, it'd be great to see other manufacturers now. motorola and lg, time to prove that you can build a nexus phone
I am interested in seeing what HTC puts out but the Nexus also has my attention. Can't wait to see what all the OEMs have been working on.
Lots of vanilla goodness i hope! Waiting to see what HTC can do with their offering.
Thanks OP!
Always looking forward to what HTC produces!
I'm just hoping Sprint gets some love right off the bat instead of 6 months later like the Nexus S 4G.

samsung, 720p is very attractive
I'd like to see them work with LG, as the Revolution was a solid, excellent piece of hardware, but their developers need to get a clue (and hopefully Google could give them that).
Oh yeah, and LG needs to stop allowing Microsoft in the back door of Google. Bing DOES NOT BELONG on an Android phone! If it weren't for XDA, this marvel of hardware would be lining dumpster bins!
It would be cool if it was HTC but they dont have good screens, so samsung for me

Hm, I don't mind HTC's SLCD screens, they're pretty clean. The old AMOLED screens on the first galaxy S series were OK, but since they were Pentile matrix's, the pixelation sorta annoyed me (not as much as on my current Atrix). The new AMOLED Plus screens are fine though.

Hi every one
Since the announcement at MWC 2012 for the "LG OPTIMUS 3D MAX" I thought it would be cool to see what others opinions are about the phone, what do you think about the specs? are you a diehard fan of LG? or a tech savvy fan who loves 3D technology? are you fed up with LG's lack of support for their high end phones?

I'm not a diehard fan of LG and I don't think the 3d max is worth to buy.
but yes, I'm "a tech savvy fan who loves 3D technology"
maybe if the next month or year 3d phone with monster spec come out, I definitely bought it.
right now I think my O3D is doing just fine..
I like that its thinner and has 1gb ram.... but I don't think that justifies me getting one.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

LG? never again
It'll be out with GB before our phone gets it. I think you'd have to be crazy to buy it though. I have been sorely burned by LG this time. The fact that it's releasing with GB instead of ICS is just a repeat of how our phones launched with Froyo instead of GB.
3D max is basically same as evo 3D ..
---
I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?zsfi3p
If LG swaps it free with my O3D then only I will get it otherwise never LG phone.
I'd rather trade my O3D and pick up Galaxy SIII.
it was my first and last LG phone, bought it cause my x10 died lol, but no won't buy it, so few more months and will get an xperia S, which has better specs (except for the sd card slot) and can take 3d panorama pics, so I'm in
Not buying one until I see what other 3D phones are announced this year, at worst I will get one after it gets updated to ICS.
I'm definitely "tech-savvy who loves 3D"...and the 3D Game Converter from LG is a must-have IMO, I hope a competitor can offer something superior though

LG has some of the best hardware but is by far the worst when it comes to the software of their phones.
O3D is their flagship phone at the moment but its performance is not quite as convincing as other dual-cores, mainly due to the bad software implementation. Not to mention, the fiasco with the ghost calls issue which is a huge embarrassment for a company the size of LG.
But even if LG had the best software in the world, it wouldn't be any reason to get the new O3D Max which has almost the same specifications like the old O3D. They could have at least increased the screen resolution in order to see less pixelated picture in 3D mode.
I used to complain about SE x10 software it was laggy but they mature after a while and now it's cool, i'll get the xperia s,
indeed o3d has an incredible awful software, sometimes wifi crashes and the phone overheats, ram usage is high, sometimes i have like 70mb free
maybe lg will do a better job next time
I'll buy the updated model. Yes.
The only other serious 3D contender to date has been the HTC Evo 3D and having tried both I think the LG phone is the better 3D phone. The display is better at displaying 3D stills and video. The updated Gingerbread camera(s) are good.
A faster model with more RAM would be awesome. I'm looking forward to it.
2D-only phones are dead to me.

Highest Specced Phone Of The Last Half Decade

Name The Phone That Was/Is In Your Opinion The Highest Specced Phone
IMPORTANT!!

I'll Start Out With two Examples

The iPhone brought about the multi touch glass screens, the UI, and the simplicity. The HD2 brought us speed, storage, customization and functionality.
