Name The Phone That Was/Is In Your Opinion The Highest Specced Phone
IMPORTANT!!
Don't Just Look At The Highest Specced Phone Today But Look At How The Phones Were Specced RELATIVE To The Year They Came Out And Pick The Phone That You Think Was/Is The Highest Specced Phone That Has Come Out In The Last 5 Years
I'll Start Out With two Examples
In No Particular Order:

HTC Sensation made the jump from average screen resolution and 1ghz processors to the amazing dual core speed and was one of HTC's best designed phones with excellent support, basically the new mighty HD2

There are only 2 phones that have already been mentioned that top this list and tie for each other. The iPhone (as much as I hate to admit it) and the HD2. The iPhone brought about the multi touch glass screens, the UI, and the simplicity. The HD2 brought us speed, storage, customization and functionality.

what about Iphone?

Defy maybe...
Officially only got buggy Froyo from Motorola... but rocks ICS with a locked bootloader!! that is pretty ironic!!

I agree the iPhone might have been a contender but Don't forget even though it had many new components, it was missing some standard abilities. For example 3g and smsing images. Also other phones were coming out with the same tech at the same time

HD2 ^^

At the Time, The HD2 was by far ahead of its time, many of our phones now can't even dual boot roms but the hd2 can.
The next phone will be the Lg Lte2

You all seem to be a little young to remember what got all this started in the first place*.

The mighty HTC BlueAngel
I personaly would list the Hardware Cornerstones as the following: (Not necessarily Software, for that we had XDA)
iPaq H3870, BlueAngel, TyTN 2, HD2, ...., Galaxy Note, .....
HTC BlueAngel (great Hardware)
HTC TyTN 2 (next great Hardware)
HTC HD2 (The Last of the Mohicans)
..... (Dident had to / wanted to change to Android until the Galaxy Note was released)
Samsung Galaxy Note (One of the first besides the iphone 4s to have Glonass support / besides the unsurpassed Screensize)
...... (Galaxy Note will hopefully last until the next great phone comes out)

I have to agree with the fact that the HD2 was the highest specced phone but the Sensation didn't bring nothing except the screen resolution, dual core speed was brought by the LG Optimus 2x, and that Sensation's resolution is nothing compared to the iPhone 4, so the Sensation brought nothing new to the game.

Nokia PureView and that impossible 41MP camera. Just the one spec though.
Me thinks Optimus Me,for proving you didn't need cheap Chinese build quality on a low end smartphone
The Galaxy Note for pushing screen size limits
The HTC G1,first proper Droid me thinks
The Nokia N95,last truly proper Nokia market beater
And Nokia N9, for being the best that never was.

True it is 9 years old but since we just got Gingerbread for it it does not feel that old and I did mention a few others. But dont worry you dont have to consider the BlueAngel if it is too old for you.

My old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i had Countinuous Autofocus and it was 8mp, (2010 btw), the dualcore processor in the Sensation isn't as fast as the other dual cores it only manages to keep up because the higher clock speed (1.5ghz vs 1.2ghz(exynos) and 1.0ghz (tegra 2), and Sense, i though this thread was about hardware specs..

Rumours: HTC Ace GSM version of EVO

The Sprint HTC EVO 4G in CDMA/WiMax flavor may be getting re-tooled for GSM networks and carriers as a device that has been rumored as the HTC Ace. The Ace will sport the same 4.3-inch touchscreen as the EVO 4G and will also be an Android handset. Because the device is speculated to carry Android 3.0, otherwise known as Gingerbread, it's unclear whether HTC will also bundle HTC Sense UI on the Ace. The Ace, being a more modern hardware build than the EVO 4G, will be pushing the envelop with HD recording, which is slated for 1080p instead of the EVO 4G's 720p HD video captures.
Here are the complete rumored specs for the Ace, according to Android Spin:
•Android 3.0
•4.3 in. display (This display will be a HTC’s own rival to the Super AMOLED display)
•1.5 GHz processor
•8 MP camera and 1.3 MP front facing camera
•Much better battery
•1080p HD recording
Also, speaking of the HTC EVO 4G, the device will be getting a successor as well, code named as the HTC Sabor.
It looks like with the high buzz surrounding large-screened devices such as the EVO 4G, the Droid X, and the Galaxy S, manufacturers are inching away from the 3.5-inch or so form factor to the 4-inch and more category with smartphones, offering a nice compromise between a smartphone and a tablet for a good mixture of talk and surf.

Sweet find, thanks orb!! I can't get to the source link here at work, but just the parts you included above have my mouth watering!!
EDIT: so the ironic thing is, that if I got that phone, I'd be hoping for someone to get WM 6.5+ running on it
i wish it actually comes out! sucks being on ATT lol
engadget are reporting that the Ace is now called the Desire HD and the specs are slightly more dissapointing than whats reported here. It has the regular 1 Ghz Snapdragon which is lame (bad GPU). But they're also saying it has an aluminium unibody like the Legend.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/rumored-htc-desire-hd-specs-surface-4-3-inch-screen-8-megapixe/
As nice as it sounds, I am worried that the aluminium unibody might push the price up to the iPhone 4 territory.
why??????!!!!!! why??????!!!!!! oh why??????!!!!!! Can't i get a phone like this but WITH A HARDWARE KEYBOARD!?
I'm prepared to pay A LOT off contract for one and I know i'm not the only one..
I feel the same frustration mate, hope we can find something at the end of 2010...

Latest Best Phone Poll

I have been using Samsung Omnia i900 for last one year guys. Now i intend to get a new phone but there seem to be alot of options out there and it made me confuse. Everyone has an edge over the other in some regard.
I almost went to get an HD2 , My reason being that it can run BOTH OS, WinMo 6.5 and Thanks to dev at xda it can also run Android almost as well. And i am a freak in tryin all the new stuff related to diff OS, so that gives me an edge for HD2, however its touch screen although capacitative wasnt as impressive as iphone 3gs.
And i m not sure how good android is, would the phone still be upgraded.
Please vote for what you think is going to be overall a better choice to go for now with regards to,
OS
Apps
Hardware
Future Development

Please do also give ur reasons why u suggest a particular phone

i agree with ipanda, the hd2 is good but its excessively large screen mixed with the type of lcd it has means the colours are all washed out, the galaxy s has good multi touch and games but the gps is crap, the iphone cant get a signal and the nexus one is just a desire without the optical trackpad and less ram lol
umm Nexus One is also abit cheaper i guess.... Optical trackpad doesnt really matter i guess... but currently its official software doesnt support Multi-TOuch which Sux.
Galaxy doesnt have a Camera FLASH... HOW the hell can Samsung miss that ... LOL
I am tilted for Desire.. But tell me one thing. Is the Android stuff really cutomizable? How about apps like superb 3d games in iphone.. Does android market has similar stuff?
And the MAIN Qs for me...... Whats the future for Desire? I mean new ROMs and New Android OS v3.0 or so will be available for desire or atleast custom roms maybe ?
I heard Android 3.0 is comin after xmas... i really want a device which can be updated with time
Eh... uh.... HTC Desire HD
hey...
and HTC EVO 4G???
my vote is for HD2..
I see I will have to raise my voice a little, HTC DESIRE HD IS GOING TO BE ANNOUNCED 15TH SEPTEMBER, IT WILL HAVE 4X THE POWER OF HTC DESIRE AND 8MPX CAM WITH DUAL LED FLASH. ALSO IT WILL HAVE AN AMAZING 4.3 INCH SCREEN AND ANDROID 2.2
IT WILL BE MOST PROBABLY CHEAPER AND WILL HAVE BETTER BATTERY LIFE. AND AT LAST, HDMI AND KICKSTAND.

http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g-review
Hopefully my link worked. If carriers are not a problem, then I think Sprint's Epic 4g is the best phone out right now. From what I have read there is no GPS problem. It also has a larger slide out QWERTY than Droid 2,it has camara flash, and 4g - if your in covrerage area. Lag problems are also gone. There is the ability to cut off touchwiz in favor of android launcher as well. On my Captivate, the camara takes great photos without flash so camara quality is superb. Plus it has about the most capable CPU you can find coupled with the best gpu available. I bought the iphone4 on day 1 and returned it on Captivates release day and have not regretted it. And yes, its very customizable. Just pick a carrier with options because you can always trade it out within 30 days.

Completely bull****.
No Evo 4G option? Now that the bugs have been worked out it's tits.
yeah my last phone was a vogue so I don't have much to compare it to, but there are already people saying they took back their epics after having AMOLED burn-in issues, bad buttons, no gps, etc.
Out of those phones, I think the HD2 has the best value considering its around $100 cheaper than the other ones, but with similar hardware specs. However, I've never owned any of those phones, so I could very well be wrong.
On a side note, if you are really into putting on different OS's and would like a change, you could take a look at the n900 (slower processor but could be overclocked) or even upcoming Nokia N9 (Though it seems like Nokia phones don't receive much love in this forum) . They're going to have the Meego OS, and developers have also ported Android 2.2 to run on the N900 aswell.
Seems like competetion here is between HD2 and Galaxy S, But there is a price difference of 200$ between these two phones, WHich is kinda alot
Extra 200$ for AMOLED 16 M screen, i guess thats the only hardware part where Galaxy/Desire are better than HD2. A small diff in RAM too, but otherwise all hardware specs are similar.
HD2 probably gets bad battery life with android and you could run into some weird bugs, they've done a great job with android, its what prolonged my touch diamonds life. Win mobile is dead, haven't looked back since I got my Evo. Best phone I've ever had, no regrets but there's always something new coming out.

HD2. Got 4 microsd cards, 3 running different builds of android the other running win mo. Depending on my mood or need for a particualr app (sat nav/games etc..) I just boot into whatever suits, HTC & Microsoft pretty much ditched this phone after the US launch yet XDA have given it a fresh start and pushed it back to the top of the smartphone list IMO. If you like playing about with your phone then there is no other option, the others are just phones in comparison
I have been usin WinMo devices for last 2 years or so, but i guess WinMo is kinda dead end now. Even if i get HD2, i will like to use Android on it for a change, So why not just get an Android set with No bugs
Well i am still compiling up my money... got 400$ by now That shud suffice for HD2, but i guess i gotta wait and save some more for Galaxy or Desire.
Why are people voting Galaxy and Not Desire ? I mean its almost the same hardware.... and Desire has a bigger community here i guess.... Htc phones usualy get new updates while i m not sure samsung will keep up the updates for their phones :S

[Q] HTC sensation or Galaxy s 2??

I don't know which to get I am tore in between both o the phones. Spec wise the galaxy s 2 wins but HTC sense is far better than touchwiz the only thing would suit me will be sense on the galclaxy s 2 but I have heard that it mite hard to port :-\

I dont think TW 4.0 is bad. Its far far more better than crappy 3.0

Spec wise the Galaxy S2 lose.
The new snapdragon looks like more powerfull than tegra 2 / exynos, they give you a screen with more resolution and not using pentile, real rgb not 50% more of amoled plus that is less than real stripe.
a little less ram, but who uses 1gb of ram in a phone?
The only things for what I am going to buy the Galaxy S2, is because in 10 years, HTC has not make a decent camera on a phone and a decent audio quality in par with the iphone or the first galaxy, and this are for me totally killer features. Oh, and the internal phone storage.
In the battle HTC sense vs touchwiz, who cares, at the end most of the people turn off that programs and ends using adw or launcher pro.
It's a tough one. Up until HTC Sensation was announced, I was settled on SGS II. But now I'm in a dilemma.
However, SGS II has a better screen - lower resolution, but using SAMOLED+ instead of SLCD (and the difference is notable). SGS II also has a better front camera, more internal memory (a LOT more, 16 GB vs 1 GB), larger battery capacity, and it's thinner.
HTC on the other hand has a better camera, higher screen resolution, dual-led flash, and it's also on T-Mobile. It also comes with a 8 GB microSD card.

You nailed it for me. While I'm not really familiar with processors, the EVO 4G has a terrible camera and sound quality. Now I'm considering waiting for a sprint galaxy s2 instead of upgrading to the EVO 3D. I know that both phones will be good, but having the better quality photos and video will make me happy.

Apart from the higher resolution offered on Sensation, i can't see how SGSII loses in terms of spec. Initial benchmarks show Exynos perform much better than the new Snapdragon (which is based on the older A8 cortex) but i guess we juz have to wait till May when comparison can be done on retail units instead of those prototypes.
Can't agree more about the camera on HTC phones though. and thats why i'm getting rid of my Desire soon=)
I would have liked to get the Sensation, but I am in an AT&T contract.
Even if I decided to kill the contract and move to T-Mobile, I would be kinda screwed when AT&T acquires TMobile and then the Sensation will not be able to use 3G on AT&T since it does not support the bands.
So between the two I am pretty much forced to get the GS2, or wait and hope the a Sensation build will eventually support AT&T bands, which I will not do...
GS2 looks good enough, but TouchWiz looks awful
edit: ok maybe TW isn't so bad

I'm not so sure about that part. HTC has never been known to release phones with great cameras. Average at best, but not great. E.g desire hd, Mozart, HD2, desire, HD7. They're all average in their leagues.
Samsung on the other hand does release phones with great camera quality. E.g. Wave, Omnia HD, Pixon 12.
However since they haven't released the phone or shown any sample pictures, guess it's too early to judge.

Thought it was a joke when he said HTC has a better camera..
You are probably right about being early to judge Sensation but we're almost certain SGSII is coming with an awesome camera which is confirmed in most previews.
HTC the better camera? Perhaps a #sarcasm tag was needed before that.
In terms of whether the CPU/GPU is better, remains to be seen, there are benchmarks which show each one outperforming the other. Furthermore remains to be seen whether there is any difference in use, even if one is better than the other by a reasonable margin.
For me, I don't like the crappy cameras of HTC and their habbit of crippling great phones with underppwered batteries...I love my HD2 but I cannot forgive HTC for putting a 1230 mAh battery which barely manages to last through a working day!

[Q] What will HTC deliver after the Sensation this year? HD4 in Q4? Better than SGII?

Hi my question is:
Do you think that HTC will deliver another 'superphone' this year?
Thinking about Q4 2011? Maybe this phone will be better than the Samsung Galaxy SII ?
Maybe it will just be worth waiting!!
Because at the event in London when they presented the HTC Sensation they said more to come this year!!!!
Please leave your opinion here! Thankyou!
Dude relax!
The Sensation is already better than the SGS2, check the upgraded screen resolution...
I am already meditating haha
The point is: The specification is better in the Samsung Galaxy SII but the HTC sense UI is much more attractive and I own the HTC HD2, I really like the HTC's. To bad the specifications are not so good compaired with the SII.
HTC chose not to release the HTC Sensation at the conference in Barcelona this year but couple months later.
Maybe they will bring out the phone that can replace the HD2 ! Because the HTC HD2 was a real NO BRAINER... THE first with a 4.3 inch screen and the best phone for a full year, because the specs of new phones could not compete with the HTC HD2.

Dude, open your eyes! You have just pointed out the only advantage the Sensation has over the SGS2... And all in all, the SGS2 still has the better screen
Dude on a 4.3'' screen it's very important to have this new resolution whatever you have super extra modular amoled plus beta
Both have dual core cpu
Both have 8mp, even dual led for Sensation
Sense 3.0 beat the hell out of touchwiz
I don't care if there are 2% more speed in games lol.
Now I just hope HTC will let us root it and that they upgraded the loudspeaker
Don't get me wrong, I used to be a huge fan of HTC. I currently happily own one. I just think they've lost their touch and are not "innovative" anymore.
Sense 3.0 versus TouchWiz 4.0 is a matter of taste and even though both have dual core CPU and 8MP cameras, Samsung's are significantly better.
The screen may have an improved resolution, but being a pentile matrix it doesn't really make it outstanding. Plus the fact that it's a wider format (16/9) which means less lines of text when reading a web page in landscape mode.
Also the Samsung should have a way better battery life (thanks to the lower consumption screen and CPU).
The dual band Wifi on the Samsung is an interesting point for me as I have dual band routers, and the 5GHz band is faster. The Sensation is single band Wifi, bummer.
Out of the box, there's 16Gb of storage on the Samsung versus 1Gb on the HTC. The Samsung includes all sorts of codecs for audio and video, including mkv. Hello HTC, are we in 2011?
HSPA+ is 21Mbps for the Samsung versus 14.4Mbps for the HTC.
USB host is nowhere to be found in the HTC, is supported by the Samsung.
Audio output quality will be presumably better in the Samsung (wolfson chip).
Should I go on? I have only listed the advantages that are really quantifiables, not just "okay it's 2% faster"...
Sorry dude, HTC is no longer the leader of high-end smartphones it used to be...
So you don't believe HTC will launch a super hot phone in Q4 2011?
I really hope so! Although my plan is finished in August. I am still breaking my head which phone to take? HTC Sensation or the Samsung Galaxy SII.
At this moment I am wondering if there is better to come this year, Worth waiting...
Or should I make a choice? Don't forget I am still owning a HD2 with Android NAND.
Can't wait for both to come to the market and then hear what people say about the phones!!!
Samsung Galaxy S II is already out in UK mate, you can check feedbacks at GSII forums. From what first owners says, it seems perfect really. It's almost fishy as it ticks all boxes.
I have pre-ordered it and will get my hands on it in a week or so, I'll also give the HTC Sensation a shot on may 12th as I'm due to an upgrade so I might give you some feedbacks then
Well apparently there will be a better super hot phone in 2011, according to Eldar Murtazin (Mobile Review) the Samsung Galaxy S III should be released in autumn and is the mother of all phones (iPhone5 competitor).
Don't expect anything but minor improvements/variants from HTC this year as compared to the Sensation.
So if you're not in a hurry, wait for the Galaxy S III. Otherwise just get the Galaxy S II now (it's released in UK and South Korea, other countries to follow shortly)
Thanks for the info. HTC should be the one to bring out the follow up phone for the HD2. They not really did that yet and they know that HD2 was a big succes. The HD Desire is still oldskool. The next generation phones are all with dual core!! I must say: I really hope HTC brings news about some asesome phone coming this Q4 2011.
I really believe in this.
Samsung Galaxy II is already great... can't see III coming soon.
HTC is letting me down at the moment, My girlfriend has the galaxy s, I still prefere HTC though... what to do?

Yep......I couldn't have said that better myself
So I should forget about HTC and HTC SENSE...?
I think touchwizz 4.0 is not so cool as sense 3.0.
HTC is so good in simplicity. They bring their product and the phone is really made to suit you. See all the videos they made for HTC sensation!
HD2 is not a device like other, it's really a computer!
Do you know any phone that can dual boot wm7 and Android?
They could even put ios it wouldn't shock me
HD2 was originally dedicated for wm6.5 only, so if HTC want to launch an HD3 it will be officially for wm7.
I think you mean you want a replacement for the DHD
I want a super android phone!!!! But I don't think their will be better phones this year!
I still thinking, what should I do? My heart says buy the sensation but my brains say buy the SII.... So what to do?
well I think HTC "gave" us the phones for this year.. maybe in the end they will have something new, but what'll be better? maybe 1GB Ram and w/e.. I mean, even the heaviest games to Android dont really need 1GB to work really good.. just keep your phone clean and 768MB and great Sense will do the work.
Also in my opinion, the SGS II is ugly compared to HTC . (Some of the phones of HTC.. like the Desire and Sensation).
I agree for the design, the sgs2 is a pale copy of the old iphone while HTC have their own design and more specially I love the rubber feel at the back
The pro and the cons... between the 2: Samsung wins.
But I just have to wait to see what people say about those phones!
I think I would still go for the HTC Sensation, but if I don't like the design in real life well then it will be the SII.
Htc France did confirm that an Gsm version of the Evo 3d would be available but gave no dates. Hopefully it will arrive Q4! Fingers crossed

As I said earlier you can check feedback about GSII from now. For Sense UI it is better than touchwizz and if it is the only thing that makes you do a compromise when considering the GSII then well a little birdie told me that there may be a solution to fix that... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzhtziHD7IY (it is an alpha and it is already running smoother than any HTC to date because of the better hardware of the GS)
SII still beats the EVO 3D. So it suppose to be a new phone from HTC. I need a leak!! Hahaha somewhere it must be clear what kind of phone they will bring out in Q4 2011.

Best Android phone on the market?

So what is it? I'm switching carriers soon and would like to know who to switch to. I'm really asking in terms of speed, screen clarity, and the overall cool factor.
Also, could you be specific as to why? You know, specs, etc.
best

No, the best phone out there would be right now the galaxy s2, this is why:
-Exynos 1.2 gHz processor: much better than qualcomm no matter what (surpassed maybe by the S4 or the Tegra 3 but not yet released)
-Better 8 mp camera: The sensors used by this camera are excellent (maybe only surpassed by the iPhone 4S sensors).
-Mali 400 GPU: One of the best gpu existing today in the market only found in a couple of phones (again maybe only surpassed by the nonreleased chip of the MWC)
-Super Lightweight: One of the lightest phone that some may say it feels cheap but dont
-Super Thin: One of the thinnest phone today only surpassed by the RAZR and other unknown phones.
-Super Amoled Plus screen: Wonderful screen with surprising colors that amaze everyone and with its plus technology it makes a more resolution effect although its only 800x480
this would be some of the reasons of why to choose it
here are my two cents hope it helps, thank if i helped

I have to agree here. While I do agree the SII is better (yeah I'm a GNex owner and my butt is a bit hurt from it) I don't see the margin of difference terribly large. The GNex is still an outstanding phone.
how much is "soon"?
If I was in your shoes, I would prob wait for Samsung galaxy S3.
I agree the international version of S2 is the best, the galaxy nexus does have a excellent screen, one of the best noise cancellation to be found on a phone. Top 3 android phones until Tegra 3 hits is Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr Maxx.
Wait for GalaxyS3
I have a galaxy s and its amazing. I cant wait for the galaxy 3
Sony Xperia S, it's got a 12mp camera. The best in Android
This is 3vo CDMA (sprint) not GSM (tmo, att, or a carrier that gives a sim card)
EVO 3D. Even though 3D code is only for sense 3.0, the 3vo has quite possibly the best selection of rooms I have ever seen. So far we have:
1. AOSP
2. CM7
3. Sense 3.0
4. Sense 3.5
5. Sense 3.6 (work in progress, or wip)
6. Sense 4.0 (wip)
7. Evo view 4g sense (tablet rom on 3vo)
8. ICS 4.0.3 (only issue is camera)
9. CM9 (same as ics)
And maybe more.!
Not to mention our various tweaks, amazing quadrant scores, dual core processor, 1.5 gHz STABLE over clock with good battery life still (we can go up to 1.8 but its unstable and can pretty much destroy your phone), dedicated developers, qHD screen, and soooooo much more. You should check us out
Plus, with the recent hboot downgrade ability, our phone is now "unofficially unbrickable" which means I can do ANYTHING to it and I can restore it. This phone, even with a select number of issues, is by far the strongest competitor in specs, deving, performance, etc.

I feel it is the galaxy note international version (the non snapdragon version) with its 1.4ghz cpu. Granted the new gen of SoC tech will be better than this but as far as current day is concerned I feel galaxy note is the best. Granted some people hate the huge screen and I understand that but the big hi res screen is just too great to me.
SGS2.

Tbh.. The 12mp doesnt look great. Took far better photos with my GS2.
As everyone pointed out..go with the Galaxy S2. The S3 will be out towards end of this year and it will be a beast...but the S2 will still be one of the top phones for at least another year.

Xperia S, best screen on the market, of all phones (including iPhone). Unlockable bootloader and ROM development support by Sony.
Nexus S. We have lots of great devs, roms, and kernels.

Just a couple points. The galaxy nexus doesn't use a Qualcomm processor. It uses a TI OMAP. If the Exynos is better, it isn't by much.
The GPU is a PowerVR which is probably weaker than the Mali but still decent. It runs Grand Theft Auto III really well, which is the most demanding thing I'd ever do on a phone GPU wise.
The screen on the Nexus is also AMOLED but full 720p (1280×720) instead of the 800X480 on the S2. It is pentile but the resoultion is so much higher it more than makes up for it. This is clearly a winner for the Nexus IMO.
Also the real pros in buying a Nexus:
Faster official updates and completely stock ICS (no touchwiz, sense, motoblur, etc)
Xperia nominated?

Sony may not have the most cutting edge tech in their phones, but I know they are polished quite well. It was Sony Xperia S coming with GB, not ICS that held it back in my mind. Any ways it will update eventually. Please check out my thread, its a discussion of a similar manner.
