My sync icon will not turn off, no matter what I do. I don't get it. The only thing I did differently was get a google voice number on my phone. Ever since, I've been having troubles getting on 3G, I can't send text messages via google voice, it gets stuck on "sending." I have to reboot my phone to fix it. After a few reboots, now my sync icon wont go away. Any ideas?
After about 10-15min the icon finally went away..weird. On a side note, anyone have issues with sending text messages via google voice?
Nevermind! It's back!
Im afraid you have chronic sync syndrome.
Just go into the settings and disable it and reboot.

i hard reset my samsung i9000 about 10 times till i figured this out, just wondering if it's the device, the android version or a general issue? Or just me? (that is the question)
After a hard reset, the only steps I take is I connect my wifi, leave the device in german since I can get by alright with the language, turn OFF auto-sync, then link up my google account.
I manually then sync Gmail, open Gmail, try to add a sender to my contacts, and i get the all too familiar vibrate tone, followed by a black screen, followed by the double vibrate and the acore stopped unexpectedly message.
I then go and sync my google contacts manually, go back to gmail, do the same thing again and it works.
I then went into contacts | Display Options and deselected all google contact groups, including my contacts. Tried to add a contact again, and it crashed again. Then I rechecked my contacts, tried to add a contact, and it worked again.
Anyone else seen this? My google contacts is an absolute mess, which is why i was trying to avoid syncing it
Hello, everyone,
I hope this is the right forum, but please feel free to move it to the correct one.
My wife's HTC Dash (on a Rogers plan) began acting strangely yesterday. She said she was in the middle of texting when the Comm manager screen came up. When she finished her text, the shortcuts along the top of the screen were all missing, and when she tries to use them, it says something to the effect of "Error opening the shortcut of locating the target filename." I can't say exactly how this happened, since I was not with her at the time.
She can still send and receive text messages by highlighting the "Text Messages" section of the homescreen, and she can still access her contacts for calls and texts. The calendar can still be accessed through clicking on appointments in the home screen, but not through the shortcuts. Also, where the Comm Manager usually is on the home screen, it is now blank, but I can click on it and access the Comm Manager screen.
When I open the Start Menu, the only icon that remains is the T-Mobile "Set up Email" option. I can also not sync the phone to the netbook it's set up on. When I plug the phone in, it is recognized by the computer but in Mobile Device Centre program, it imply says "Error."
UPDATE:
I can plug the phone into the computer and it will be recognized. I can also use file explorer to see the files in the phone. Also, the phone will not let me change ring modes (Normal/Meeting/Silent/etc)
Has anyone had this issue before, and would a factory reset correct the issue? I told my wife it's likely she will lose her contacts, but she's not too concerned about it, since she can get those back easily enough. She just wants the full functionality back. She does not use the phone for email, so I can't speak to that.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this. I hope someone can help us!
Thanks
I'm sorry, but i can't help you with your problem, but you don't have to loose the contacts etc from the device as you are able to connect to a pc.
Find a program called 'jeyo mobile compagnion' you can download a demo from the official website, and you can make a back up of contacts, sms and call histtory
btw, afaik you probably have to make a hard reset (factory reset).
good luck!
I installed the gmail update that was in the market. Since I installed it, my contacts have not synced with gmail. I noticed my phone was not sleeping and started looking and I found that the google contacts were not syncing but would try and after a few minutes it would get this error message:
Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly
This has been happening for 7 days and after the sync fails it trys again and prevents the phone from sleeping. I have tried removing this update and I have been unable to. The only solution I know is to wipe the data and flash the rom again. Is anybody else having this issue?
I am on a stock ROM and i still get stupid issues revolving around Gmail. The giant POS keeps my phone trying to sync all day, so I use ATK to simply kill Gmail, then go into running applications and stop the sync.
It is VERY annoying.
I did some more testing and here is the strange thing. The mail and calendar sync with no problems. It is just the contact sync that causes this error. I made a change to a contact while logged into gmail on my pc. I enabled the contact sync and after a little while it gave me that error. However it did sync the contact and change I made on the pc was reflected in the contact now on my Evo. So I did it the other way and changed a contact on the Evo and synced again. After getting the error message I checked the contact on my pc and the change was there. So the contacts are syncing but something is not telling the evo that the sync was completed properly. Anybody have any ideas what is causing all of this? I have to leave it disabled for the contacts if I want my phone to sleep.
Though I have encountered the same problem as described but I would like to eliminate the connection issue first. My interest is to sync contact from gmail to phone (a Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.1). Normally I will not use 3g (GPRS is too expensive in this part of the world) but connecting thru wifi. I am very sure the connection is thru as I am able to access my gmail account thru the phone browser. I then get to phone menu and start syncing (setting, sync) but got the "sync is currently experiencing........" error message. My question is whether there is any restriction that sync must go thru 3g (GPRS) connection or not.

I have tried it connected via wifi, 3G, and 4G. For me it didn't matter what connection I was using I still get that sync error when syncing the contacts.
Well I thought everything was fine until today. I noticed my awake time was once again the same as the up time. I got to looking and not it appears as if the google calendar is hanging on the sync. It does not give an error like the contacts does but the sync icon never goes away. I unchecked it from the sync and the phone is sleeping again. I don't know what is going on. Time to factory reset and flash the rom again.
Same issue. I've flashed several different roms in the last few days. Any rom that has the updated Gmail app is causing my contacts to "loop" in the sync and eventually give me the "currently experiencing" error message with lovely "!" (thanks, needed that). Older versions work fine.
Here's the wierd part...
I added a contact online and it still synced perfectly to the phone.
I added a contact to the phone and it showed up online.
THUS - I believe this is a phantom error message.
Hope that helps. I'm annoyed myself. I wanna update but keep running my old backup since sync isnt an issue with the older gmail.
Slightly off topic, but task killers are completely worthless, especially on Froyo.

I believe the error message is invalid as well. But it keeps the phone from sleeping because it keeps trying to sync. The only fix is to enable it, sync, then disable the contacts from syncing. Has anybody been able to find out any information as to what is going on with it? I was wondering if it is something that we can report as a bug to either htc or google.
If I turn on my phone, Voice will work for texts for a while, but eventually it'll stop delivering new messages to me. On the right side of "Inbox" in Google Voice, I'll see that refresh animation but it will never stop. Then, I reboot my phone and it works and then eventually stops again.
It's been like this for a couple months. It worked a little better when I rooted my phone a month ago (haven't used any MOD's yet), but now it's back to doing that more often. I eventually had to enable notify via text message in the Google Voice settings, just to get messages.
Has anyone had this problem or have any idea on how to fix it? Thanks.
try going into manage apps, and clear the data for google voice. After that when you run google voice, you'll probably have to go through the initial setup of google voice again. It might help, or might not. Either way, it only takes a couple minutes to try.
If that doesn't help, then it might be problem with your rom, or some other app.
Thanks for that. It seems to be working so far. I'll just have to do it whenever I have a problem from now on.
After installing Liquid Smooth RC7/8/9 I was having problems where after a day of updating apps, restarting phone, etc, I wouldn't be able to take calls anymore.
My phone would ring, but when I swyped to answer, com.android.phone would force close and hang up, giving the caller busy signal. What was worse, I would have NO call log of who called, which sucked if I got a call while at work and unable to see who was calling on the screen.
I tried numerous factory resets and it would happen again, no matter how few apps I installed (1 at a time), I cleaned my contact list out on the PC after logging into my gmail account, deleting multi-entries where importing had overlapped/doubled/quadrupled contacts in the vcf file, cluttering my phone.
Cleared cache, fixed permissions, rebooted.
Finally I uninstalled facebook app after reading that contacts from social network, rebooted.
Still was getting error of android phone stopped working.
I think i boiled it down to the radio/network acquisition on reboots.... Only thing that seemed to work now was taking out my sim card, putting it back in and going to Mobile Network settings and putting it back to LTE GSM/WCDMA under network mode, reselecting my NEtwork Operator and Access Point Names..
Really annoying problem because I don't know if it's rebooting the phone that causes this, apps installed in combination with the contacts list, or what.
Thought this might help some people in case they were experiencing similar things.
Curious...
It sounds like a sync error of some sort with your contacts... it can be from the app side or from the Google side...
If you don't then possibly the sync services are jammed up on the phone app.
Goto Manage Apps>All Apps>Phone and clear the data for the Phone and reboot...
A lot of times it is the Facebook issue...
Hope that helps...

Yeah It is bizzare... I uninstalled facebook and left contacts alone to eliminate this from the equation.
On reboots, sometimes when I'm trying to select network carrier , it takes FOREVER to load the different carriers... I've come to the conclusion that if it takes forever to load/see the phone carrier options, chances are the com.android.phone will crash AND/OR it will work but i won't get call volume (neither phone can hear volume from the other) sometimes even when com.phone.android doesn't crash when phone rings.
Im thinking it's almost hardware related with the radios inside interfering or something...
I just had the original problem, reboot the phone, reselect the carrier (no delay/lag) and everythign works again.
I tried toggles up at the top after reading some stuff about how the GPS toggle has to be on/off ... when Wi-fi is toggled on, my cell-tower reception bars AND wi-fi icon are blue.. when WiFi is disabled, those reception bars turn grey... I thought this had something to do with it also, but it doesnt.. I'm getting calls with volume and no crashes now regardless of whether wi-fi is on/off or whether the phone is plugged in to the charger or not.
Right now, it's based on whether or not my phone boots in a "good" or "bad" mood it seems... very tempermental. I'm not blaming the Rom.. but it definitely seems to be carrier/hardware related that is causing the software (phone app) to go bonkers. I'm going to go back to installing my apps again for the 9000th time/factory reset.
