[Q] 2.2 Add Contact causes acore crash if google contacts turned off - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

i hard reset my samsung i9000 about 10 times till i figured this out, just wondering if it's the device, the android version or a general issue? Or just me? (that is the question)
After a hard reset, the only steps I take is I connect my wifi, leave the device in german since I can get by alright with the language, turn OFF auto-sync, then link up my google account.
I manually then sync Gmail, open Gmail, try to add a sender to my contacts, and i get the all too familiar vibrate tone, followed by a black screen, followed by the double vibrate and the acore stopped unexpectedly message.
I then go and sync my google contacts manually, go back to gmail, do the same thing again and it works.
I then went into contacts | Display Options and deselected all google contact groups, including my contacts. Tried to add a contact again, and it crashed again. Then I rechecked my contacts, tried to add a contact, and it worked again.
Anyone else seen this? My google contacts is an absolute mess, which is why i was trying to avoid syncing it

Need help kind of a noob

Ok so heres the scenario. When I go to my contacts I can see them all, click on any of them no problem etc. But when I go into my groups and try to click on one of my contacts a popup comes us saying complete action using... no matter what i try it doesnt do anything. So I erased my groups but i still have my groups under the gmail on my phone. well random contacts there are doing the same thing. I have also noticed call settings is there twice in the list and when i click the first one down it does nothing. when i click the second one i get the com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly error. I hit force stop and phone goes right back to working. Just seems weird that its random contacts. Also when i had the groups if they didnt have a "g" next to them i would get the same thing.
I have flashed my phone with 2.2 from this site (baseband I897UCJI6) (kernel 2.6.32.9)
Anyone know how to fix this or what is wrong?
good old gmail... accounts and sync on the phone find the sync settings for gmail and set em to what you want synced
I did that and it is only showing me contacts with phone numbers. but what i mean is i had groups on my phone and when going into a contact within the group, if it was one i put in and is not synced with gmail its asking me how to complete action. But if i access that same contact right from contacts and not from the group tab it works just fine.

[Q] Deleted People/Contacts - how to get them back?

Android/Sensation noob here.
Picked up my sensation two days ago. Under Settings/Accounts & Sync, I entered my information and synced by contacts, gmail, calendar, etc.
However, I noticed a problem with the sms not being identified, even though the sender was in my People. I thought maybe deleting the contact and resyncing would help. However, after I deleted it.... I can no longer get it back.
How do I redownload all the contacts? I've gone to the Accounts & Sync and tried syncing again, to no avail. Am I missing something? How do I get the People back?
Thanks!
EDIT - Nevermind. My Gmail/Google account was apparently very slow to update. It was showing all my contacts there. However, upon reloading the page today, I noticed that they are all *POOF* gone. So... back to square one.
If you deleted all of your gmail contacts you can still restore them. log in on your pc, go to contacts, & under more actions there should be a restore contacts option.
it's fairly new

[Q] Error syncing contacts from Live

I'll be as brief as possible. If you need clarification, just ask. I don't expect to solve this problem quickly, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I cannot sync contacts with my main Live account (which is set up with Windows Live Domains). Whenever I leave the Contacts option checked, the phone displays "Attention required" after a few minutes of syncing, and then "Error 0x86000106". It also briefly displays "Contacts: 1/0".
Emails and appointments sync flawlessly on that account, and contacts syncing works flawlessly with *any other* accounts I have, even with another Live account with a custom domain.
Here's what I tried so far, without success:
- Posted this problem to the Microsoft Answers forum (no help)
- Hard resetted the phone
- Changed phone's time zone
- Changed phone's region and language
- Enabled logging (where's that log stored?)
- Removed and readded all my contacts (I have about 120 contacts)
- Tried syncing with just one or two contacts
- Tried syncing via both WiFi and OTA
- Tried changing some personal info on the account profile
I've actually found that error code on Microsoft's website, but they say it's related to Outlook/Exchange and Activesync (it's trying to sync a corrupted item, and removing the offender causes the sync to continue). However, I cannot imagine how that corruption could be possible as I am not using Outlook.
Any ideas? Is it possible to "clear" the account in any way?
Bump... Anything? Anyone? I had resetted the phone a few more times, still no luck.
Try this
Uncheck sync contacts, then sync the whole thing. Then check sync contacts and see if it works
wpxbox, thanks for the reply. I can't uncheck to sync contacts now because this is my primary ID (I can only uncheck email). However, I did some tests a while ago and used this ID as a secondary account - unchecking Contacts would yield a successful sync, but the error would come back if I check Contacts again.
Just as you said above, its probably trying to sync a corrupted contact, and removing the corrupted contact should let it sync successfully. It doesn't matter if you are using Outlook or not, the server itself is a Microsoft Exchange server, and very rarely, something like this happens.
More than likely, you'll have to find the offending contact and try to sync again.
I would export all my contacts, delete them from my Live account (clear it out completely), then separate the exported contacts into groups of 10 or 20 contacts each, and then import each group, and sync after each import. This will allow you to make sure your contacts all sync successfully, and if there is a corrupted one, you can narrow it down to the last group you imported of 10 or 20 contacts. Makes it easy to track down the culprit.
That would be a god way. Good idea
prjkthack, thanks for the reply but I already did that. Phone won't sync even with an empty contact list. Still could be a corrupt contact, but where would it be? I used Outlook to access the contacts list and see if something comes up but no luck either (btw, Outlook syncs flawlessly).
And before someone say it, I already contacted Microsoft about it but they just keep sending me back and forth between the Microsoft Answers team, the Windows Live Mobile team and the Windows Live forum without giving me any solutions at all.
Nothing? Oh well, I'm doomed....

[Q] Remove emails from auto suggestions

A huge annoyance really.. whenever I go to compose a new SMS, I type in a letter and expect to just get suggestions from my contact list. But a ton of email contacts that I know longer even use show up.
Any way to clear all of that? I recently went into my gmail and deleted a TON of email contacts out of the account, so that is nice and clean now.. except, I still see the ones I deleted showing up on my phone auto suggestions.
I've force stopped both the gmail app and the stock email app, cleared settings and cache. I double checked and still see all of the emails still being auto suggested.
I've also force stopped, cleared cache and removed facebook.

Question Google contacts syncing every 5-10 minutes in notifications

Very recently, I keep seeing a G symbol in the notifications, when I catch it in time and pull down the notification draw, it says Google contacts is syncing 3 contacts, except it keeps repeating this notification every 5-10 minutes, I haven't added any new contacts at all yet it keeps popping up with this, I have tried disabling and enabling the Google contacts sync with the Google account but this problem continues, it's almost as if the contact wasn't successful and so it tries again a few minutes later, except when I check my contacts on the website, everything is up to date?
Disable it.
Backup contacts through the Samsung app as a file and store redundantly on hdds with other critical phone data.

Click to collapse
you can simply disable the notification for that. go to apps and find google play services. under notification section find contacts category and disable it.
