Call recording on I897 Captivate - Captivate General

Hey
Saw this thread over on the I9000 forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863074
Interesting discussion there... I'm wondering if we can use the libs and apk given at the end of the OP:
Update:
Thanks to titooo7 et.al. call recording is now working using the libs and phone*.apks from the i9088.

I know we use modems from the i9088, although I'm sure the phone.apk is a different matter... anyone know if we can use these libraries on the Captivate?
Thanks
Edit : this worked for me, see my third post for details

NVM.
IT WORKS Ultimate rom
you rock!!!

Tried the libs and apks on Andromeda+SuckerPunch. I got stuck at the boot animation with repeating vibrations.

Cezar's Continuum and Di11ligaf's 5.4 stripped are a couple roms off of the top of my head that have this feature already implemented. You simply push record while in-call and it saves a sound file to sdcard\sounds\

You need to use speedmod kernel for it to work.
I do not know if other i9000 converted kernels will work but captivate kernels will not.

Isnt recording phone calls illegal in most states?

In some states yes it is unless both parties know it is being recorded. Thats why we always hear that bloody "This call is being recorded for training blah blah" Not to mention that any call recorded without the other knowing is not admissible in court and if found out about can lead to legal issues. Have not used it myself in a very long time, not sense letting lawyer buddy of mine use my phone and he found my recordings by mistake.

Will suckerpunch work? Since it's based off speedmod.

Thanks for the info silverslotcar. Hmm, I'm running Serendipity 4.3 right now with SuckerPunch #30 and I'm happy with the combination so I don't really want to switch ROMs right now. tjsooley, you said that i9000 kernels will work, but opcow tried it with Andromeda (i9010 based) and suckerpunch (speedmod-mod so i9000 based), shouldn't that have worked?'
I guess I'll nandroid this and give it a try anyway.
Thanks! Keep reporting results

Let us know if it works!

Okay, just tried it. I backed up the two apks in /system/app and the three libs in /system/lib, flashed the zip linked in the OP using CWM, and rebooted. No FC's, phone booted fine, I tested it on one two-minute phone call and it seems to have worked perfectly!
My config: Serendipity 4.3, SuckerPunch #30, KP1 baseband (i9088).

has anyone been able to get this running on andromeda??

Confirmed working on di11igaf's 5.4.

There is a basic summary of the call recording rules. Personally for me (even though it is illegal in IL) I will still use call recording on a case by case basis. For instance if someone is telling me instructions on how to do something I doubt I would need that evidence in a court of law (in which case it would be dismissed) or have them press charges.

does this imply that it will be supported in andromeda? (if it works?)
edit:
tried it on andromeda 1.0
phone goes into a boot loop and keeps annoyingly vibrating...
luckily i had all 5 files backed up so i restored the them and everything works fine now
now that we've established the fact that this doesn't work in its current status... i think it would be cool if there was a way to get this done..

I do not believe that we will be implementing this in Andromeda because of the largely illegal nature of call recording in the United States (purely for liability reasons). However you are free to install it yourself so long as you are aware of the legality of call recording in your respective jurisdiction. That being said we don't want to be liable for including it in the ROM.

recording calls is awesome. prank night, every night for me.

Any idea if this will work with Perception 10.1? If not, I might have to try it out and report.

[ROM] Showcase AOSP Froyo V0.9.1, Voodoo AOSP kernel, and GAPPS 3/20/2011

I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DIRECTIONS YOU FOLLOW HERE NOR AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEMS ANYTHING I HAVE CREATED MAY CAUSE YOU. YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND DISCLAIM THE RIGHTS TO SUE ME.
NEW RELEASE 3/28/2011
OK, time for a simultaneous release of AOSP Showcase and Mesmerize, with AOSP voodoo kernels and a set of GAPPS that jt1134 has built for us.
First of all lets give thanks to those that helped me out and made this happen. Phidelt82, thanks for testing and hosting the downloads. Elijahblake, thanks for testing and sticking to it even through your phone troubles that the inbetween releases and original (yet buggy) release called. Thanks dfgas for testing as well, and getting me important Mesmerize files. Baked_Tator, thanks for testing it, you provided great help. MrHanMan, thanks for testing, you provided great help as well. Thanks to all other testers who I can not remember their names at this moment (PM me and you'll get put in this list). Thanks jt1134 for all the work you put in on the fascinate rom lately, you've had me playing catch up, because though I strive, I can't be as fast as you. Thanks to lmartin92, for dedicating time, energy, and learning through the entire experience and making these builds happen (that's me)
Now to the order of business, announcing this release. You showcase users who have endured previous releases are now ready for a stable release and here it is. Yes some things are not working, but these are the things most folk can get along without.
What's working?
Bluetooth (though headsets, and keyboards may not work), file sending has been tested by many and is claimed to be working.
SMS is now working fully.
3g is working.
GPS is working.
Wifi is working.
Google contacts/gmail syncing is working (may require reboot or a bit of patience on your part).
In call sound volume setting is working thanks to jt1134.
It shows the proper company as to who is providing you services now.
Much more is probably working, but I can't identify them all nor make claims as of yet.
What isn't working?
Bluetooth headset.
MMS.
Video Camera.
Camera does not work at 5mp and it uses black and white previews.
Probably some other things, if you find them, let me know and I'll get to work fixing them.
Where can I get this?
The Showcase AOSP V0.9 rom release is here
mirror
and a torrent magnet link is magnet:?xt=urn:btih:7f1f77e7e9e9cd29cdf19b8eff9daa0ddaf8f9cf&dn=showcase-aosp-latest.zip&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fopenbittorent.com%2Fannounce.
The EC10 AOSP voodoo kernel is here.
The AOSP Gapps are here.
Use CWM Red to flash these in this order, kernel, rom, gapps. Anytime you flash the rom reflash gapps because the rom breaks gapps after reinstallation. Be sure to wipe data and cache before you reboot.
What happened to the kernel being inside of the rom? I've decided to seperate them out, if someone wants a non-voodoo kernel, they can make one and use it. It does have to be customized for AOSP. I just don't know yet how to do this, but it shouldn't be too hard.
In other words, I'm allowing folk to use different kernels than mine own if they care to put the work into it to make it happen.
WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT *228 unless you wish to possibly lose your phone!
I would like to donate to the cause.
Glad to help you do that. I'm specifically looking to beef up my dev machine to a six core 16 GB ram beast. Of course, if anyone wants to participate in building, I'll actually donate some of my machine torwards a build server. These are the parts I would like to have, and I'm probably upgrading from 8GB 3core machine to a 12GB 3core machine next month (just modifying this sucker here).
I need 2 sets of this memory to make my dream happen. It's a Mushkin 2x4 GB ddr3 1333 (10666) MHZ). The cpu I would like to see is a six core AMD Phenom II x6 1100T. No I don't expect anyone to provide me with this, but this is what I'm going to upgrade to eventually and try to donate back to the community with a Samsung galaxy s i500 build server. By the way, when making donations I'm not the only one to consider. All those fine folk listed above deserve it just as much or more so than me. Now enough with my dreams.
Enjoy AOSP.
Changes in 0.9.1
Streaming issues kind of fixed (no hd youtube, but the rest seems to work).
New GAPPS.
New Kernel (EC10 from jt1134 which is a generic (works on all i500 devices to date) kernel)
GMAIL/contacts sync is fixed
For any questions, comments please join the IRC on #samsung-mesmerize on irc.freenode.net.
Fix for MY PROBLEM please READ FULLY!!!!
New Version is working GREAT!!!!! Thanks again Lmartin92 Thanks to JT1134 and thanks to everyone involved
Awwwwwwwwwww yeah!!!... Thanks to everyone involved!!!
Go go gadget Batesville. Thanks again for the goodies!
Now for some help on getting fixes
all i need fixed is sms and 3g.. I can work with that
Excellent job! I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
Good work man, would you be so kind as to keep the title of this like the rest and add [ROM] and EB11?
I'm also interested in seeing some screenshots .
No problem, changed. That's good info right there, makes this as easily searchable as the rest. Thanks.

EDIT: *shakes fist at elijah*
Updated Post#2 with how i fixed MY *228 and possibly other NONO debacle...
Be sure you read my exact problems before attempting my fix though please!!!!
Yeah the problem may be the fact there's no Cellular South info even in the apns-conf file haha. And some of the build.prop information is for Verizon, and there's values in there for GSM ? Er?
I flashed the one for the fascinate on my mez. My baseband still read eb16 I had 3g data idk will flash back at lunch and see if texting works but calls and data do. I was in a roaming area I work in a uscc home area that will tell it lol. Are those quadrant scores real? I mean I know that on the vibrant the test was high because of h.264 not working correctly.

[Q] Anyone use tasker to work around wifi bugs?

I was wondering if it would be possible to use tasker to flick wifi off and on when wifi drops and/or 3g activates. Lately it seems on my phone that when I go out of wifi range and the 3g/4g connects the last wifi spot is remembered and almost acts like it is still in range causing issues when trying to connect to the next spot. I already installed the 7 day trial but haven't had as much time to research as I thought. Sound possible? Wasting my time?

What ROM are you on? I haven't had any of the problems like you describe since moving to Gingerbread.
Sorry, still stock. I keep thinking about flashing a rom but like others I am hoping for an official release soon with all the updates/leaks. Also this is my first android phone and I don't have total confidence in flashing it. For instance for whatever reason rooting using the "regular" method didn't work and had to use superoneclick. The latest rom thread also seems like a bit of a hodge-podge of things needed to get everything working....no disrespect intended to the individuals working on it.

Superoneclick is the "Regular" method for most people...
Infused 2.x had a few rough patches as he tried to integrate UCKI3/I4 stuff to fix the known issues with the Rogers release, but that has settled down as people have figured out what's broken in I3/I4 and what's not.
Serendipity VII is still stable, Mikey didn't rush to bring in the I3/I4 stuff. If you flash it, you'll have the following issues:
No audio on first call after boot - toggling speaker on/off will fix it (Hellraiser known issue)
No HDMI (won't see this until AT&T releases Gingerbread)
Data speed issues (However the Hellraiser beta9 kernel or my DD kernel may improve this - I am STILL waiting for someone in an area with good speeds to do an A/B comparison between old/new kernels.)
Camera limited to 15 FPS video - but you can flash the UCKI3 camera libs to fix this, there's a separate flashable package with its own thread in the dev section
None of the above bother me significantly (In fact as I live in the boonies and shoot with an SLR, the data speed and camera issues don't bother me at all), so I have been on S7 for a while.
In general you will find that there are VERY few people here running stock Froyo any more.
Good news is that if you screw up, Samsungs are VERY easy to restore to stock. Download mode (aka Odin/Heimdall mode) is awesome.

I guess that is where doubt started setting in about whether I should start flashing the phone or not. Both stickied root threads point to the rage against the cage method and one points to superoneclick being the old method. Thanks for all the info. I wasn't aware off the 30fps fix since I don't frequent the development threads. I honestly haven't had the time to do the necessary research if I get stuck so I have stayed stock.
Back on topic, I did get a chance to look up the some things in tasker and will try it out at work tomorrow since this is where it seems I have the most trouble. I'll post back if it works.

[Q] 2-way call recording

Hello folks.
I am curious if anyone knows of any regularly updated decent kernels / ROMs that have 2-way call recording capability? (Not recorded through the mic.)
As far as ROMs...Jellybean only please.

It will never be a kernel issue. This would be done through a ROM or an app.
None of the Jellybean ROM's for the Sensation currently have this as a standard option as far as I know.
Thanks for the response.
Are you sure though? I was under the impression that the kernel was the only thing that mattered.
Based on the information found in these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441643
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287544
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287544
...and others I have come across in the past.
These are quite old though. I would rather not use a super old kernel. =P
I realize that I will need an app to record phone calls. However if you have ever tried out apps that are designed to record calls on a sensation they only work when you use speakerphone (basically the mic records what the speakerphone pumps out). Last I tried most kernels were incapable of grabbing the audio data internally for some reason.
I think the reason was something along the lines of the initial developers did not include that functionality and it would be a lot of work to include after the fact, tons of extra code etc.
Also! I like your sig!

Well I'll be a son of a gun.....I guess I was wrong about the kernel not being involved. I knew the kernel controlled the audio at the very basic level, but I never realized it would have to be involved in sending that audio to another app.
DO NOT using one of those old kernels you linked though. They are for another phone. It will screw up your ROM and you'll have to restore a back up.
As far as I know all ICS/Sense based kernels can be used for 2WCR. For Gingerbread they needed a patch, but for ICS I think it comes enabled in the source code. Personally I use a Kernel from a banned dev, but I think you could use Faux or Bricked and have 2WCR. Don't worry about them not being updated, there is not much development you can do on a platform that had been out for so long (and I mean ICS 4.0.3).
For 4.1+ and AOSP I have no idea...

I didn't know that. Thanks a bunch!
Recently I had a bit of time on my hands (lack of time is most often my biggest problem ><) so I started trying out some ROMs to see if any had 2WCR. What I was looking for in order of importance: Jelly Bean, ROM that was upgradable to Pdroid 2.0/OpenPdroid, and 2WCR. I ended up using [ROM][CM-10.1][JB 4.2.1][KANG] NameLess Bean [05.02.2013] so far it's a great ROM. Doesn't bench quite as high as my last ROM. I plan on installing some of the performance / battery mods out there once I have been rocking this ROM a week or two and know which bugs it already has =P (so that I can know if any of the mods create bugs heh).
I ended up using the app CallRecorder (skvalex) after trying several other apps which didn't work so well. CallRecorder only has one problem I've noticed, the files it saves do not show up within the app. If you go to the saved directory they are all there and work fine though. /storage/sdcard0/voix by default.
Hopefully this post will be helpful for sensation users looking for 2WCR in the future. Thanks again papete!
good
good innovative feature
I use CallRecorder app too but its very hard to hear what other people are saying, you need to use speakerphone.
I really don't understand why is this feature not fully implemented on all android phones, i often forget what i talked with someone few minutes before, so i need to recheck.

One of the reasons it's not implemented on all phones is because it's illegal to record calls without consent in a lot of places.

[Q] Best debloated mt4gs ICS Rom that works 100%?

Trying JellyBAM. Camera crashes the phone when flash goes off (although flashlight works fine). My corporate mail/calendar account also can't access the right security settings, so I'm crippled for work purposes. If you use these features, consider something other than JellyBAM.
Tried PACman but switched. Don't recall why, now. Maybe I'll try it again. . . .

PACman and JellyBAM have the same base and kernel so you will have the same issues connecting to work email.
I've seen other users post this about the camera flash crashing things, but I was never able to recreate it. So I just summed it up to an improper wipe/flash. No one has offered any kind of logs either to go along with said crashes, but that's not saying it will help because again we can't recreate these issues during testing.

Inaccurate exaggeration is nobody's friend. It's a nice ROM, sure, but saying it has less issues than stock? You just lost any further credibility.
Happens to be my opinion based on my own personal experience however. And will remain so.
I'm kinda like you david, I consider a ROM 100% when it runs 100% of the things I have to have or need. I realize it can't be like that for everyone but for those that it is, it allows a person to enjoy WAY more ROMs. JMO.....

But when I read reviews of a ROM, maybe I'm wanting to try it but trying to determine what things other people are encountering. Someone who says, "This ROM is perfect! Everything works!" but then I find out that, no, everything doesn't work and even they later admit that "some things aren't working but I can overlook that", well, that totally invalidates the entire thread. How am I to trust anything that person writes about anything else? Yes, we have subjective opinions about ROMs, but it does nobody any favor to exaggerate the abilities of a ROM. If you tell me a ROM is perfect and "better than stock", then I have some extra high expectations.
I understand completely. But there is more to a declaration of perfection than the statement itself. It would depend on who makes it and their knowledge of different ROMs but to me it just means it's damn close. I usually find out the details when I run it myself. That's when I'm reminded that nothing is perfect. Even the original developers don't distribute perfection and there is a HUGE well paid team of them.
I can appreciate anyone's expectations of a shared original ROM or a port to be one of perfection but that usually means the person with those expectations just doesn't realize all that's involved. People have to remember that this is more a personally fulfilling "hobby" than their vocation.
My biggest frustration is people wanting something that works 100%. Compared to what? Stock? Half the time the "Stock" ROMs have their own issues. That's why we root and ROM, to improve the experience over Stock.
What features do you want? What's your opinion of 100%? Sense? AOSP?
Hell, even the title of the thread isn't 100% accurate. There isn't an official ICS ROM, so there can't be a debloated version. And the word "Best" implies that there are at least 2 ICS Roms that work 100%....

(Crap, I obviously need more sleep over the weekends....)
Weekends are too short ya know.

Exactly This.
In even the best ICS "closest to what factory would be" ROM I've found (Virtuous Primadonna), 1080p recording, WiFi calling, and tethering were borked. To me 100% means 100% as in all options the phone came with work and not having options taken away.
MikTouch is still the best I've found. Once the Xperia ZL drop for purchase I'm bailing on my MT4GS. I absolutely love this phone, but I hate HTC with a burning of a thousand suns for bailing on this phone which was supposed to be a flagship device.

wifi calling works on ALL ics roms. there is a workaround for tethering involving barnacle and open garden. so that leaves 1080p recording

How to upgrade the LG G2x P999 to Android 4.1.1 JB via CyanogenMod 10 (Unofficial)

Hi All!
Recently, while surfing through the ocean of ROMs for my LG G2X P999, I came across this ROM. Couldn't find any link related to this on XDA. So thought of pointing the G2X owners to this link:
http://www.androidauthority.com/g2x-p999-t-mobile-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-unofficial-115536/
Flashed it just yesterday. Apart from the Video-recording did not notice any bugs so far. In fact I haven't used it enough to comment on bugs. But I can confirm that Calls and Wifi are both working fine.
If any one knows any prior publication of this work on XDA; please let me know so we can avoid duplicates.
Hackfest in development section.

It doesn't,
I can't get it to work on anything that is not CM7 based.
Kinda blows that our phone is limited to cm7. I love cm7 as it is treating me well, but selection is always a nice privilege

so data is working? i thought the data or radio was still broken. does this mean we may get a somewhat stable build of JB?
Still a hackfest.

I tried a couple different versions of CM7 over the past few days, and its nothing but a nightmare. It will run flawlessly for hours and then something quirky will happen and I either cant get data, or cant make calls, or my screen locks up, and im rebooting the phone or looking for a fix on google. Wound up just going back to the stock rom with faux123 kernel.

Well the problem is that other developers take the vanilla cm7 code and tweak/mod the hell out of it which is always awesome but they put out an unstable build/ROM. If you haven't tried vanilla CM7.2 from get.cm (latest build) then you're missing out. I have had the ROM installed running with mazout's latest kernel for over a week now and its been running extremely well. All and any problems that I experienced with this setup were directly due to ignorance and human error as I'm still a flaming n00b. At the same time they were great learning experiences and easily fixed.

The problem is going to lie in your setup somewhere.
Maybe kernel level as it is known that some G2xs will run great on Trinity but crash on Faux and vice versa. That's just a quick example.
I've run vanilla CM7 for like 13 months now and do not encounter the issues you are describing.
Soooo...what's your setup.

Data does work but there is issue related to rapid battery drain. Back to my stock ROM. This hasn't been updated since a long time. I wonder if any developer at all is working on this phone or not!

You are late to the party... This device is a dying device. There's 1 dev working on a CM7 Kernel and that's about it. More than likely we will never see fully working 4.1.1 or higher on our device. They tried real hard and are some talented people (our devs), but LG handed them a broken pile of excrement and said, "here you go... Jellybeans!!"...

That's almost all true! I have another old phone, Mytouch4g/HTC Glacier. On that one I am running 4.2.2 and there is a lot of development still on. Huge number of ROMs which can be used as daily drivers. But here we don't even have a perfectly working 4.0.4. But again, no complain to Developers. they have tried really hard with a lot of time invested in this device. All the blame on LG.
This phone is lightning fast on 2.3.X variants. still very much usable. I may be late to the party, but the party is yet not over
I just want to chime in that I used this and the phone is working. The camera seems slower (and therefore more blurry). Other than that everything that I use (I do not use bluetooth, tethering, or wi-fi calling) is working. It's about the same speed as CM7 I had on here before. Don't know about battery since I only just did it.
If anyone knows any tricks for the camera please share. I babysit a toddler and his face is often blurry in photos. I'm pretty sure with this new ROM it will be even more blurred. I have already removed the plastic cover over the camera lens, it's not that issue. This is clearly software as it has gotten slower with this ROM.
We thought we might have a jellybean breakthrough when cm started deving cm10.1 on the p990 and had the courtesy of posting a half port of their work in progress. I believe it's called AdamPK's cm10.1 and is usually found with Mazout360 kernel. Hardware Acceleration Work so no camera, camcorder, sluggish or other problems that plagued the hackfests but they ran into and issue with the radio because O2x and G2x use different radio chips. So you have wifi but no data and battery can't be read correctly but other than that it would be as close to a perfect 4.x as we could get.
