Is there a way to get HDMI without a doc? - G Tablet General

Is there a way to get HDMI output from a gtabl without buying the doc.
I was looking over some of the early release info for the gtab and at one point there was a cable that went from the bottom proprietary port to an hdmi device...but it never was shipped with the final.
Is there such a cable?

[Q] G Tablet and HDMI out from dock???

I searched the threads on this but can't find specifically what I'm looking for.
I purchased the Z Pad dock for my G Tab and just got it in and hooked it up. It will charge through it and the USB works, haven't tested the RJ-45 connection but I connected it to my TV and it will not display anything. My TV has a DVI connector and I have a HDMI to DVI adapter and I know the adapter works because it works with other devices.
Also, HDMI and DVI video are exactly the same digitally as far as signal go so my question is, has anyone else used an adapter to connect it to the DVI port and if so did it work or not?
Just wondering if it needs to be specifically connected to a HDMI port to receive other feedback from the port to the device to turn it on. My Droid X will connect with this method.
Also, When I got the dock it had a rattle, so I cracked it open and the counter weight was loose as the mounting tabs were busted off. It was banging on the ribbon cable to the dock connector. I disassembled it and examined the cable and saw no damage and since all of the other features work I figured it might be the connection method but want to make sure. I secured the weight and closed it back up.
I also ordered a HDMI to composite RCA converter but haven't received it yet as I want to be able to connect it to any available display so I am not able to try that yet.
In short, has anyone else tried to connect it using a HDMI to DVI connector and not have display output? P.S. I did have the charger connected to power the internal dock board as it is not just a passthrough.
Just want to know before I attempt to send this back as a defect or hunt down other methods of connectivity.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
I have found that the hdmi out wont work unless the power supply is connected! so basically make sure the tablet is charging when you want the HDMI to work! Hope this helps!
Yes, I know that and said I had it plugged in. Thanks. Just wondering if someone else had trouble using a HDMI to DVI connector with the G Tab.

Brian, Not sure how much it helps but I have a Ztab and it is working fine going HDMI --> HDMI on my TV. Are you having problems with a HDMI --> DVI connector? If you haven't already tried it, you could try rebooting the tablet with it in the dock. I've found that helps with mine sometimes.

well Brian I can tell you that Hdmi to dvi Works well.
I have the same dock, and i use it at work all the time via dvi adapter.
I assume your dock still works not using the adapter?
I plugged mine into my TV and it showed right up, but of course, I am using HDMI to HDMI. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is you'd lose sound in the process, unless its smart enough to know the sound isn't connected via HDMI and keeps it coming out the speakers.
I did try to reboot it and it did not show up. Thanks for posting that it did work with the DVI adapter as that is how I have it set up. I know the adapter works as I use it with my Droid X and it works with that.
I will play around with it some more and wait until the coposite converter I ordered comes in as that is HDMI in to Composite out and see if that works. If not then I will send it back as a defect. I bet the counter wieght being broken loose inside did something to the ribbon cable.
Anyone use a HDMI to composit/RCA hookup yet? Mine is on order and am hoping I can use it on my older 4:3 40 inch Hitachi.

Do you use it to display text? I find the quality from my Zpad, using the dock, to be pretty average for text. Did you change any settings?
Cheers, Mal.

[Q] Asus Transformer full size USB Challenge

One of the very few downsides to the Asus transformer is the lack of a full-sized USB port on the tablet itself. You can always purchase a dock and Asus has said that they will be selling a miniUSB >USB dongle. However, neither of these solutions is really the same as having a slot within the tablet.
I figured the folks at XDA wouldn't stand for this!
Here is my challenge. Add a full USB slot to the tablet and post instructions.
Here is how I could see this going down:
1) Someone with more hardware know-how, open up your transformer and find a physical spot in which one could place a full female USB connector with a small mounting bracket.
I haven't seen a hardware teardown yet probably due to lack of stock.
2) Figure out wiring from a full USB slot to controller. Perhaps directly splicing with the microUSB cables?
3) Either do it yourself or write up your findings and let the community try.
I think with a small dremmel tool and some pieces from radioshack we could make a pretty good mod.
What do you guys think?
I'd be interested to see someone do this, but I think 99.99% of the population would be too afraid to take a dremel to their TF considering it is about 6 mm in width at the edges. It would have to be a pretty tiny dremel. That's not considering the risk of opening it up. Then, finding the right location to solder the USB port to on the circuit board.
I think I'll wait for the dongle
The easiest would be a dock connector to USB dongle. That way, it doesn't require opening anything, just scoping the dock and how that works.
Just wait for the official solution that's my advice
For what it's worth, I bought a usb 3.0 F-F adaptor and attached it to the power cable. I then plugged in a usb memory stick. There was some activity and drivers were loaded on the Transformer, but the memory stick was not recognized.
Anyone else have any luck with this?

USB host

So I got a question I keep reading that the transformer has no USB host support for like Xbox controllers and stuff but I swore it had a micro USB I could be wrong I do not own one yet. But if it doesn't have USB slots is there a way to hook up stuff like that or are you forced to get the dock that I do not want

No USB on the tablet. Micro SD card is available
The are supposed to be releasing a USB adaptor
So when they realease the adaptor we will be able to hook up controllers and stuff and acctually take advantage of what 3.1 has to offer ?

You are able now to use USB host on the tablet, if you buy a female to female adapter and hook it up to the charging cable. At least this is what I read here.

Almost nothing works that way because there is no power line in the charging cable.
I guess you need to have the laptop accessory to take advantage of USB controllers ect?
So I have heard that they are going to be releasing a USB adapter is this true or are they going to force you to buy the dock for host functions

The adapter has been confirmed, but nobody at Asus could give me a date when it will be available.
edit: Apparently a german online shop is listing the usb adapter for 20 Eur and has the item in stock: cyberport.de/notebook/zubehoer/kabel-adapter/adapter---usb/1D09-36X/asus-usb-extension-kit-fuer-eee-pad-transformer.html
Hopefully it's coming to Amazon soon!
has anyone teated that USB adapter from that German website?

HP Slate 8 Pro Car Integration

Ok I am going to be installing this tablet into my truck to replace the factory radio. My current dilemma is that I cant figure out a way to get otg host and charging working at the same time. I have tried some of the cables on ebay that are supposed to make this possible. Either one works or the other. So I was thinking maybe I could hardwire the tablet directly to my vehicle. Either wiring directly to the circuitry inside the tablet or possibly wiring in another microusb or usb port onto the tablet. I know some tablets come with an ac port already on the tablet along with the microusb port. I usually see this setup on larger tablets or some of the off market ones. I was wondering if anyone could help me thru this if it is even possible. I have also seem someone was able to make a custom kernel to enable a tablet to be charged and otg host at the same time on a different tablet. I can provide pictures of the inside on the tablet if this would help out any.

T95Z Plus Android Box

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just purchased a T95z Plus android box and it won't work with my 3 year old HDMI cable. It will only work with the hdmi cable that came in the box. I tried it on three different TV's at home and again it only works on the HDMI cable that was shipped. I have my TV mounted above my fireplace and the hdmi cable that was shipped is way too short. I have no idea if the hdmi cable that was shipped is HDMI 2.0 or not. Has anyone come across this issue and can help me out, before i go out and spend money for a new 20 ft HDMI 2.0 cable, to see if that resolves the issue.
Thanks
I forgot to mention that my old hdmi cables work perfectly fine with my 3 yr old android box.
I purchased a 25' HDMI 2.0 cable and all is good now. The T95z Plus android box is now connected to my TV, above my fireplace and working properly. No sure why you have to use a HDMI 2.0 cable.
Thanks
