[Q] G Tablet and HDMI out from dock??? - G Tablet General

I searched the threads on this but can't find specifically what I'm looking for.
I purchased the Z Pad dock for my G Tab and just got it in and hooked it up. It will charge through it and the USB works, haven't tested the RJ-45 connection but I connected it to my TV and it will not display anything. My TV has a DVI connector and I have a HDMI to DVI adapter and I know the adapter works because it works with other devices.
Also, HDMI and DVI video are exactly the same digitally as far as signal go so my question is, has anyone else used an adapter to connect it to the DVI port and if so did it work or not?
Just wondering if it needs to be specifically connected to a HDMI port to receive other feedback from the port to the device to turn it on. My Droid X will connect with this method.
Also, When I got the dock it had a rattle, so I cracked it open and the counter weight was loose as the mounting tabs were busted off. It was banging on the ribbon cable to the dock connector. I disassembled it and examined the cable and saw no damage and since all of the other features work I figured it might be the connection method but want to make sure. I secured the weight and closed it back up.
I also ordered a HDMI to composite RCA converter but haven't received it yet as I want to be able to connect it to any available display so I am not able to try that yet.
In short, has anyone else tried to connect it using a HDMI to DVI connector and not have display output? P.S. I did have the charger connected to power the internal dock board as it is not just a passthrough.
Just want to know before I attempt to send this back as a defect or hunt down other methods of connectivity.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

I have found that the hdmi out wont work unless the power supply is connected! so basically make sure the tablet is charging when you want the HDMI to work! Hope this helps!

Yes, I know that and said I had it plugged in. Thanks. Just wondering if someone else had trouble using a HDMI to DVI connector with the G Tab.

Brian, Not sure how much it helps but I have a Ztab and it is working fine going HDMI --> HDMI on my TV. Are you having problems with a HDMI --> DVI connector? If you haven't already tried it, you could try rebooting the tablet with it in the dock. I've found that helps with mine sometimes.
Sent from my VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0b5.1.1 using Tapatalk

well Brian I can tell you that Hdmi to dvi Works well.
I have the same dock, and i use it at work all the time via dvi adapter.
I assume your dock still works not using the adapter?

I plugged mine into my TV and it showed right up, but of course, I am using HDMI to HDMI. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is you'd lose sound in the process, unless its smart enough to know the sound isn't connected via HDMI and keeps it coming out the speakers.

I did try to reboot it and it did not show up. Thanks for posting that it did work with the DVI adapter as that is how I have it set up. I know the adapter works as I use it with my Droid X and it works with that.
I will play around with it some more and wait until the coposite converter I ordered comes in as that is HDMI in to Composite out and see if that works. If not then I will send it back as a defect. I bet the counter wieght being broken loose inside did something to the ribbon cable.

Anyone use a HDMI to composit/RCA hookup yet? Mine is on order and am hoping I can use it on my older 4:3 40 inch Hitachi.

Do you use it to display text? I find the quality from my Zpad, using the dock, to be pretty average for text. Did you change any settings?

[Q] HDMI Output not working?

Hey all..
I bought myself a HDMI to mini HDMI lead for my Asus Transformer. Unfortunately I can not get it to output a picture at all. I have tried it on two TV's that both support up to 1080 signal, both tv's work fine with my netbook via a normal HDMI lead.
I don't have another device to test with the mini hdmi lead.. so I have ordered another lead just in case the lead is faulty. Is anyone else having the same issue?
I saw in another forum a couple of people reporting a similar issue with the Asus and I'm concerned my device has a problem :/
Any ideas?
The HDMI lead I purchased is this one below, and I have tried it on a Samsung TV and a crappy vistron.
Cheers,
Tim

Not sure what could be the problem cause mine worked straight out of the box no issues at all
Be sure to push the cable all the way in.
When you plug in the hdmi cable to the tablet a HDMI notifaction icon should appear next to the clock. Do you see that?
It seems to only output 720p and no sound, does anyone get sound over hdmi?

Interesting is it a fixed level output of sound or does the volume on the tablet need to be adjusted?

It can be adjusted by the volume rocker on the tablet so it's not fixed

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I am not getting any HDMI icon notification near the clock when plugging in the lead. The lead is pushed all the way in as far is it will go..(the plastic of the lead is against the edge of the device).
The TV obviously see's that something is connected though as it goes from saying 'Check Signal Cable' when it's out of the device to 'No signal' when it's plugged in?
I wonder if this indicated a faulty lead.. wish I had something else to test it with
I don't have a transformer yet, but I'm on a Captivate phone. These phones have a TV-out accessory cable. There was an issue with some people's phones where they were shipped with the "TV-Out" setting turned on while other phones were shipped with that setting turned off.
Is there an option somewhere on the Transformer where you have to turn the "HDMI-Out" setting on?

Hopefully just the lead, not the tablet.
I figured out the sound issue, sound for me works if its plugged in directly to the HD set.
If I plug it in via a hdmi switch box no sound.
Good luck getting yours working.

There are a lot of stereo recievers that can pass through the video from an HDMI input, but will not output audio over HDMI. Your audio is probably still in that reciever box, but you'll have to get it out some other way. Try Component or Composite Audio cables.
Could you guys with working HDMI leads possibly let me know where you got yours from please?
If I can get the same lead (I'm in the UK) then I probably have a better chance of it working (if there is not a fault with the device).
Thanks

That's the one I am using
Hi,
I'm having the same exact problem. I plug the cable into my Transformer - nothing. I've tried to set my monitor to look for it, but it finds nothing. I see no notification on my tablet.
Here is the cable I'm using:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330550984450&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Fortunately, my buddy also got a Transformer (we both ordered from Amazon at midnight on the 26th) so I can test the cable on his device. I'm going to assume if it doesn't work on his then (luckily) it's not my Transformer that is faulty. Then I either have a bad cable or got the wrong one (can anyone confirm if the cable I purchased should work with the Transformer?)
Thanks.

Good luck with the test.. it seems this issue is becoming more common. Could you let me know the outcome as it will be useful troubleshooting my issue.
I'm tempted to go and pay £20 for the cable listed as working above..but what I really need is to test it with a known working cable.
another little update... I realised that my Canon camera has a mini hdmi output that is supposed to output video. The cable I have does not work with the camera either! So I'm hoping this is a good indication that the cable is the issue.
OK my issue is resolved... it was the cheap cable from eBay.
I bought an expensive cable from Maplin and it works fine.. the output from the tablet is grainy/crap and probably not worth the £20 I spent to get it working but at least I know the device isn't faulty
For once it obviously was worth paying for the better quality cable.

Just wanted to add.. the second cheap HDMI lead I ordered from eBay worked fine (picture is still a bit crap though).

I avoid eBay for any kind of cables. If you're in the US, Monoprice has dirt cheap cables that I've used on lots of different devices without any issues. Not sure if they distribute overseas.
My hdmi only outputs at 720p as well. Isn't this thing suppose to output to 1080p? I have the official 3.1 firmware installed.

Hooking up to DVI monitor?

One of the displays I need to connect with the Transformer only have dsub and dvi connections. Has anybody hooked up their tablet through an hdmi/dvi converter?
I have no hdmi cables to test out, and didn't want to spend the couple of bucks for a cable that I have no use for.
Good question. Bumping to get attention.

I haven't received mine yet, but I think a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable -> HDMI to DVI adapter -> DVI cable should work.
It works for me, at least, I'll just be leaving the DVI cable on my desk and taking the HDMI cable with me when I leave work.
I'll post my results when it arrives on monday.
Edit: May just be able to put the adapter on the monitor and skip the cable altogether.
Like I said, I'll post

I appreciate it guys.

It will work fine, since all the signals are digital. Yes it really is that simple.
Except that I haven't seen a single mention as to whether the TF is using HDCP for it's HDMI output. If that's the case then a DVI converter will not work.

I'm pretty sure HDCP has to do with the monitor/tab not the i/o. My Dell 2407WFP is HDCP, has no HDMI (DVI/VGA only) and my TF works with it.

35$ is too much though. Cheaper options on ebay i bet.
.im facing that problem now with my computer monitor. I hooked up the pad by two seperated ways-first with a dvi2hdmi adapter connected to a simple dvi cable, didnt work.second try was with a special 5 meters dvi2hdmi cable.again.didn't work. I don't know what to do? I tried it with another dvi lcd and it just saying that the monitor went to sleep mode.
Important to say that mirroring to a TV LCD or plasma works great whitout any problem.
What's the dvi problem?
i tried this with a samsung monitor. using dvi-to-hdmi-to-minihdmi adapter. i don't know if it's just 1 adapter too many, but it doesn't seem to work.
I don't need a signature.

Didn't work for me. The monitor just doesn't see the Transformer. Might be a dodgy adapter because the HDMI cable works fine.
Didn't work for me either with 3 different types of Dells at work. Just registered after lurking for weeks just to comment on this issue!
I can't post the URLs as a noob but the cable and converter are from Amazon.
I have newer Dells at home I can test with but that was not the point...
Drats!!!
Any kind of hacks to get around whatever is preventing this from happening...??
same problem here. got a dvi > hdmi adapter, connected with a 1.8 meter mini hdmi > hdmi cable to a samsung monitor..
no screen image...
connecting direct to my tv (hdmi) works fine!
edit: read some stuff on the xoom forums about a 5 volt line that's missing in the mini hdmi out... and the need for a hdmi>vga convertor in some cases.. (expensive)
Strange thing is, i connected my popcorn 110 to the monitor and it works flawlessly .. both got hdmi 1.3a ..

[Q] Connecting TF to external DVI display

Hi !
I want to use an external screen with my TF. I spotted some stuff on ebay I think might work, but I'm not totally sure. Since shipping will take 3 weeks at least, I'd like to be 100% sure it will be the right one for the TF.
My screen doesn't have hdmi, it's a VGA / DVI screen, so I was thinking of buying an hdmi to DVI cable, and an Hdmi to mini hdmi adapter to plug it into the TF. Will this work ? Or is there something like the stupid USB port that will accept only the Asus usb adapter to be able to communicate with it ? (I'm pretty pissed of with that one, since I can't find it cheap in my country, and the only websites I found in the US willing to ship to Switzerland quoted me shipping a 200$)
That the stuff I was planning on buying :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
and
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
What do you think ? Might work ?
Thanks !
i've done this exact thing recently.. it works well.. I sat one of my monitors next to my bed and streamed some tv.
Though when i got the mini-hdmi to hdmi adapter.. it came with a pretty nice screen protector, too.
TL;DR: yes it will work.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Thanks ! I'll do that, then ! For my part, it's to view pdfs (like Photoshop magazines) on a bigger screen while having the ability to flip through the pages. I already have two screens on the computer, can't put a third one without changing the graphic card, so I thought putting it on the TF would be a nice solution
that's a pretty good idea! its nice for watching shows in bed... or ircing with a bluetooth keyboard, too. ;D
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
So, some news about my oh so great idea...
I finally received both the dvi - hdmi cable and the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter. I was very excited, plugged it in the screen and in the TF, and... "check cable signal". Yep. I tried finding stuff on the internet, nothing. Then my screen wouldn't work anymore altogether, I was a bit panicked. But yeah, as I like to live dangerously, I plugged it in my other screen... nothing, "check cable signal". (and then the screen wouldn't work anymore either and it took half an hour to get it back on the PC after switching cables, going VGA mode, playing with graphic card settings...)
I thought, maybe the TF isn't sending the signal properly, let's try the camera (Nex from Sony, with hdmi). Same thing, "check cable signal".
So now, my question... Is it possible both my screens are too old to be able to get hdmi signal ? (seems weird, but why not, they are not HD and don't have any hdmi entry) Or is the most probable scenario that my cable isn't working properly ? Or can it be the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter ? I only have my TF and my Nex with hdmi outputs, and they are mini hdmi, I have no other gear I can try with.
What do you think ? Screen is too old or cable is faulty ?
Are your monitors HDCP?
Sent from my ADR6400L
No idea... How do I check that ? (but I read from a guy who put the TF on external monitor by using an hdmi - vga cable, surely it was not an hdcp screen)
I believe you should be fine. If the monitor/tv supports DVI (Digital Video Interface) then you will be fine with an HDMI to DVI adapter as HDMI is also a digital video signal. Now if it was HDMI to VGA (analog video) then you would need a converter of some type.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
I had the same problem, and it appears that my monitor does not handle the tf101 resolution through dvi (1280x960).
And there is actually no way to lower the tf101 output resolution through hdmi, afaik.
So check on the screen's manual the max resolution your monitors could handle through dvi (be careful,
it might be different than from vga).
my screen is in 1650x1050, or something like that. The other one should be at least a 1280x960. So it might be that the cable is not working properly ? How can I know if the problem is with the cable and not with the hdmi mini hdmi converter ? What do you think is more likely ?
Depends on the brand of cable and adapter. Usually the HDMI to mini HDMI adapter doesn't break, as it's just a block of plastic (in my case at least)
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Ok, I'll probably go and buy a new cable tomorrow. But I'm thinking about something : I figured the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter + cable puts a strain on the hdmi slot in the TF, so I'm wondering if it might be better to buy an hdmi mini hdmi cable, and an hdmi dvi adapter instead. The strain would be put on the external screen, but that's ok since the dvi is screwed to the screen.
Your opinion ?
I tried exactly what you are doing a few Weeks back, after assuming it would work and trying many combinations of wires I finally searched and found zero confirmed reports that you can use a dvi to hdmi cable for video output.
What I found works is going with a dvi to vga converter, its more expensive but looks like the only way without a straight hdmi to hdmi connection. Asus actually makes a converter for this purpose, HP also has one... I think they are both in the $40-50 range. I don't have links but just google Asus or HP hdmi to VGA converter
Good luck
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Thanks for that ! That way I won't have to buy another cable and have it not work. But, big question... why on earth are there hdmi to dvi cables if there is no way to convert video signal from hdmi to dvi ??? What use are these cables ?
BTW, I have a DVI to VGA converter, do you think I should try and stick it on my hdmi dvi cable ? (the thing is lying around, if I can get some use for it, I might as well try)
The Asus thing seems a great idea and I will probably end up buying it.
One thing I don't understand though... Why mini hdmi to VGA ??? Why not mini hdmi to DVI, if that needs a converter anyway, better make it dvi, no ? What about the resolution ? I don't want to get a stupid resolution on my screen because of problems with VGA (and I'm lucky I've still got a screen with VGA and DVI...).
Actually, what about a cable like this one ?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
I would be pissed of if I have to pay $50 for asus adapter if I can get one for 8$ on ebay...
Never mind, after a quick search on the internet, some people tried and it doesn't work...
But actually, I HAVE to ask. Why doesn't it work ? What is the problem ? hdmi is digital, dvi is digital... WHY ???
(I haven't ordered my adapter from asus yet, still looking for a cheaper solution.)
Edit again : what I saw that doesn't work was the hdmi to VGA cable, I couldn't find anything about hdmi to dvi... I might go to the shop tomorrow with the TF and ask if I can try a cable there...
Mini hdmi to hdmi to hdmi-dvi converter works. I've tested this configuration myself.
For the vga, you need a converter, like the asus hdmi-vga one.
Just check the xda forum, searching with hdmi dvi keywords.
You'll have the answers to your question by digging a little more.
My lg monitor works fine with mini hdmi to hdmi to dvi. The ui is in 720p on the screen but if you play 1080p HW accelerated video the resolution changes as well. Wanna see a picture of proof? ;-)
I also have the converter and this works also fine. Have a look at the thread in the Accessoires forum.

Firstly, the video part of HDMI is electrically compatible with DVI, that is, they are the same thing just over different wires in a different connector.
However
TFT monitors _may_ not sync down to the specific TV-based refresh rates that HDMI outputs often use. Unless your monitor advertises that it will do the TV resolutions/refresh rates like 1080p/720p etc then its unlikely the TF1010 will display on them. The video output of the TF101 is 720p scaled up to a 1080p signal can your monitors do 1080p?
I haven't the slightest clue... One is quite old, a samsung 2232BW (but that's my main display, so I won't use it with my TF) and the other one is about 1 year old, an HP crap given with a cheap computer...
I might as well buy the cable. Other than that, if my monitor can't handle the 1080p, would it work with the asus hdmi to vga converter ?
(BTW, the prices in the shop are totaly crazy. I went today and saw that the hdmi to dvi cables were about $90, and I found one on ebay, $7 shipping included, gold plated, 3 years warranty)

Connecting Infinity to HDTV...

I recently received an HDMI to Micro-HDMI cord, and was excited to test it on my 37" Panasonic.
I have tried every combination of turning on and off the TV/Tablet first etc...and it STILL will not show up on my TV. It's acting like there is nothing connected at all. No prompts.
So...what am I doing wrong? The cord I bought was 3 bucks on Amazon, so it may be a knock off or something. Buy a new cord? Any help is appreciated. Half the reason I bought this thing was to watch movies on my hdtv.

My micro HDMI cord only worked on my LG when I first selected the input on my TV and then unplugged and plugged the HDMI cord back into the Infinity. Also make sure the cord is plugged ALL the way in.
When I played NetFlix on the tablet, the TV would display the video and sound, but the closed captioning stayed on the device.

I bought a Micro HDMI to HDMI cord on amazon for about 3 dollars also, it worked perfectly fine on my 42inch LCDTV Panasonic. All I had to do was connect it and change the input on the TV to the right HDMI and it worked fine. Although watching movies with subtitles didn't work so well as the subtitles was left at the tablet screen, and I couldn't turn the tablet screen off while watching movies on my TV.
when you plug in the HDMI cord, the TF700 should show some kind of "HDMI" noticifation, and will stay on when connected. If you're not seeing this, then you'll need to figure out if it's the cord or HDMI port on one of your devices. The TV, hook something else to it that used HDMI. The cord, try another cord. Monoprice has them cheap too; probably like $5 with shipping. If you're not seeing the HDMI notification after the cord, and you know they cord is good, it's your TF.

I have problems as well, tried to connect my tf700 to my samsung UE46ES8005 led tv but cant get it to work
On LG i have no problems at all, but the samsung refuses. Tried different cables to no avail.
I have sent a mail to samsung support 3 days ago but no answer.... hmm
//Mackis
same her it works on my monitor but i have Panasonic tv and it doesn't work tried a variety of cables and no go but tried on a Toshiba TV at parents and it works.i had the prime and it work just fine
Asus really needs to add some HDMI scaling options to the TF700 to allow it to work with more TV's - I'm assuming these issues are because the TF700 only seems to output at it's native resolution, which most devices don't seem to like... I'll do some testing with my Toshiba 1080p TV today, just to see what I can find out as well and report any findings that may be useful.

I've connected the TF700T to be Panasonic 55TV50 Plasmass HDTV and to a Vizio 16" LCD TV. No issues.
Connecting to 2 Vizio tvs and a Hitachi no problem.
Our 58 inch Samstung plasma only sees the tablet connection on HDMI 3 which is the recommended port for a monitor hook up from a pc.

There is a HDMI encryption called HDCP that basically makes it more annoying to use HDMI than it should. Some TV's do not have HDCP enabled. Since the Infinity FORCES HDCP chances are whats happening is the TV doesnt know what to do with the encrypted signal and the tablet doesnt want to play nice so the TV will work.
Unfortunate for you, im guessing your TV is not compatible. Sorry for the bad news mate.
There have also been problems with people trying to use HDMI - DVI adapters and connect into DVI monitors, since a lot of (older) DVI devices also dont support HDCP or sometimes the connector itself doesnt have the right connections to make HDCP work often it all just doesnt work properly. Maybe in time there will be a hack to disable HDCP, until then theres not much you can do.

Again pileot... HDCP has NOTHING to do with it. Find me a monitor/tv that does have HDMI that does not have hdcp enabled..... they don't exist anymore.
If it has HDMI... then chances are 99.999999% that you have an HDCP compliant monitor.

DVI will not work because the 5v signal that is needed for the monitor to recognize that something is connected to it-- is not sent with our tablets.
Seems this question is repeated as soon as it falls off the first page......

MHL + DVI Adapter

I was hoping someone would have some insight regarding a problem I have using an MHL adapter with a DVI connector attached on.
I have this MHL adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00827EGG2/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm using dvi adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JCQVW8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And connecting it to this projector: http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-EP739-...TF8&qid=1381161207&sr=8-1&keywords=optoma+739
The projector doesn't have an HDMI cable so I thought i'd throw on an HDMI to DVI adapter to get around that.
I've used the HDMI cable and MHL adapter on other stuff before and they work great. I've used DVI adapter and HDMI cable to connect my laptop to the projector and that works too.
When I use the MHL adapter with the DVI adapter and connect it to the projector, my One S Screen becomes all scrambled and the projector detects a signal but it displays a blue or black screen or occasionally I see about half of the notification bar and the rest of the projection is the blue screen. Also, my phone freezes at that point and I have to force restart it.
My scrambled screen one s screen looks different every time, but something like this: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3894/img20110927034536.jpg
If the projector's manual will help, it can be found here: http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_2566.pdf
I'm running rooted stock rom.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
htc media link hd
did you try the htc media link?? i know its a bit expensive but i think that would be your best thing to try
you'll just need to connect the media link to your projector and use wifi to set everything up... no need for mhl and dvi connector
