MHL + DVI Adapter - HTC One S

I was hoping someone would have some insight regarding a problem I have using an MHL adapter with a DVI connector attached on.
I have this MHL adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00827EGG2/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm using dvi adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JCQVW8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And connecting it to this projector: http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-EP739-...TF8&qid=1381161207&sr=8-1&keywords=optoma+739
The projector doesn't have an HDMI cable so I thought i'd throw on an HDMI to DVI adapter to get around that.
I've used the HDMI cable and MHL adapter on other stuff before and they work great. I've used DVI adapter and HDMI cable to connect my laptop to the projector and that works too.
When I use the MHL adapter with the DVI adapter and connect it to the projector, my One S Screen becomes all scrambled and the projector detects a signal but it displays a blue or black screen or occasionally I see about half of the notification bar and the rest of the projection is the blue screen. Also, my phone freezes at that point and I have to force restart it.
My scrambled screen one s screen looks different every time, but something like this: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3894/img20110927034536.jpg
If the projector's manual will help, it can be found here: http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_2566.pdf
I'm running rooted stock rom.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

htc media link hd
did you try the htc media link?? i know its a bit expensive but i think that would be your best thing to try
you'll just need to connect the media link to your projector and use wifi to set everything up... no need for mhl and dvi connector

[Q] G Tablet and HDMI out from dock???

I searched the threads on this but can't find specifically what I'm looking for.
I purchased the Z Pad dock for my G Tab and just got it in and hooked it up. It will charge through it and the USB works, haven't tested the RJ-45 connection but I connected it to my TV and it will not display anything. My TV has a DVI connector and I have a HDMI to DVI adapter and I know the adapter works because it works with other devices.
Also, HDMI and DVI video are exactly the same digitally as far as signal go so my question is, has anyone else used an adapter to connect it to the DVI port and if so did it work or not?
Just wondering if it needs to be specifically connected to a HDMI port to receive other feedback from the port to the device to turn it on. My Droid X will connect with this method.
Also, When I got the dock it had a rattle, so I cracked it open and the counter weight was loose as the mounting tabs were busted off. It was banging on the ribbon cable to the dock connector. I disassembled it and examined the cable and saw no damage and since all of the other features work I figured it might be the connection method but want to make sure. I secured the weight and closed it back up.
I also ordered a HDMI to composite RCA converter but haven't received it yet as I want to be able to connect it to any available display so I am not able to try that yet.
In short, has anyone else tried to connect it using a HDMI to DVI connector and not have display output? P.S. I did have the charger connected to power the internal dock board as it is not just a passthrough.
Just want to know before I attempt to send this back as a defect or hunt down other methods of connectivity.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
I have found that the hdmi out wont work unless the power supply is connected! so basically make sure the tablet is charging when you want the HDMI to work! Hope this helps!
Yes, I know that and said I had it plugged in. Thanks. Just wondering if someone else had trouble using a HDMI to DVI connector with the G Tab.

Brian, Not sure how much it helps but I have a Ztab and it is working fine going HDMI --> HDMI on my TV. Are you having problems with a HDMI --> DVI connector? If you haven't already tried it, you could try rebooting the tablet with it in the dock. I've found that helps with mine sometimes.

well Brian I can tell you that Hdmi to dvi Works well.
I have the same dock, and i use it at work all the time via dvi adapter.
I assume your dock still works not using the adapter?
I plugged mine into my TV and it showed right up, but of course, I am using HDMI to HDMI. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is you'd lose sound in the process, unless its smart enough to know the sound isn't connected via HDMI and keeps it coming out the speakers.
I did try to reboot it and it did not show up. Thanks for posting that it did work with the DVI adapter as that is how I have it set up. I know the adapter works as I use it with my Droid X and it works with that.
I will play around with it some more and wait until the coposite converter I ordered comes in as that is HDMI in to Composite out and see if that works. If not then I will send it back as a defect. I bet the counter wieght being broken loose inside did something to the ribbon cable.
Anyone use a HDMI to composit/RCA hookup yet? Mine is on order and am hoping I can use it on my older 4:3 40 inch Hitachi.

Do you use it to display text? I find the quality from my Zpad, using the dock, to be pretty average for text. Did you change any settings?
Cheers, Mal.

[Q] Connecting TF to external DVI display

Hi !
I want to use an external screen with my TF. I spotted some stuff on ebay I think might work, but I'm not totally sure. Since shipping will take 3 weeks at least, I'd like to be 100% sure it will be the right one for the TF.
My screen doesn't have hdmi, it's a VGA / DVI screen, so I was thinking of buying an hdmi to DVI cable, and an Hdmi to mini hdmi adapter to plug it into the TF. Will this work ? Or is there something like the stupid USB port that will accept only the Asus usb adapter to be able to communicate with it ? (I'm pretty pissed of with that one, since I can't find it cheap in my country, and the only websites I found in the US willing to ship to Switzerland quoted me shipping a 200$)
That the stuff I was planning on buying :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
and
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
What do you think ? Might work ?
Thanks !
i've done this exact thing recently.. it works well.. I sat one of my monitors next to my bed and streamed some tv.
Though when i got the mini-hdmi to hdmi adapter.. it came with a pretty nice screen protector, too.
TL;DR: yes it will work.

Thanks ! I'll do that, then ! For my part, it's to view pdfs (like Photoshop magazines) on a bigger screen while having the ability to flip through the pages. I already have two screens on the computer, can't put a third one without changing the graphic card, so I thought putting it on the TF would be a nice solution
that's a pretty good idea! its nice for watching shows in bed... or ircing with a bluetooth keyboard, too. ;D

So, some news about my oh so great idea...
I finally received both the dvi - hdmi cable and the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter. I was very excited, plugged it in the screen and in the TF, and... "check cable signal". Yep. I tried finding stuff on the internet, nothing. Then my screen wouldn't work anymore altogether, I was a bit panicked. But yeah, as I like to live dangerously, I plugged it in my other screen... nothing, "check cable signal". (and then the screen wouldn't work anymore either and it took half an hour to get it back on the PC after switching cables, going VGA mode, playing with graphic card settings...)
I thought, maybe the TF isn't sending the signal properly, let's try the camera (Nex from Sony, with hdmi). Same thing, "check cable signal".
So now, my question... Is it possible both my screens are too old to be able to get hdmi signal ? (seems weird, but why not, they are not HD and don't have any hdmi entry) Or is the most probable scenario that my cable isn't working properly ? Or can it be the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter ? I only have my TF and my Nex with hdmi outputs, and they are mini hdmi, I have no other gear I can try with.
What do you think ? Screen is too old or cable is faulty ?
Are your monitors HDCP?
Sent from my ADR6400L
No idea... How do I check that ? (but I read from a guy who put the TF on external monitor by using an hdmi - vga cable, surely it was not an hdcp screen)
I believe you should be fine. If the monitor/tv supports DVI (Digital Video Interface) then you will be fine with an HDMI to DVI adapter as HDMI is also a digital video signal. Now if it was HDMI to VGA (analog video) then you would need a converter of some type.

I had the same problem, and it appears that my monitor does not handle the tf101 resolution through dvi (1280x960).
And there is actually no way to lower the tf101 output resolution through hdmi, afaik.
So check on the screen's manual the max resolution your monitors could handle through dvi (be careful,
it might be different than from vga).
my screen is in 1650x1050, or something like that. The other one should be at least a 1280x960. So it might be that the cable is not working properly ? How can I know if the problem is with the cable and not with the hdmi mini hdmi converter ? What do you think is more likely ?
Depends on the brand of cable and adapter. Usually the HDMI to mini HDMI adapter doesn't break, as it's just a block of plastic (in my case at least)

Ok, I'll probably go and buy a new cable tomorrow. But I'm thinking about something : I figured the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter + cable puts a strain on the hdmi slot in the TF, so I'm wondering if it might be better to buy an hdmi mini hdmi cable, and an hdmi dvi adapter instead. The strain would be put on the external screen, but that's ok since the dvi is screwed to the screen.
Your opinion ?
I tried exactly what you are doing a few Weeks back, after assuming it would work and trying many combinations of wires I finally searched and found zero confirmed reports that you can use a dvi to hdmi cable for video output.
What I found works is going with a dvi to vga converter, its more expensive but looks like the only way without a straight hdmi to hdmi connection. Asus actually makes a converter for this purpose, HP also has one... I think they are both in the $40-50 range. I don't have links but just google Asus or HP hdmi to VGA converter
Good luck

Thanks for that ! That way I won't have to buy another cable and have it not work. But, big question... why on earth are there hdmi to dvi cables if there is no way to convert video signal from hdmi to dvi ??? What use are these cables ?
BTW, I have a DVI to VGA converter, do you think I should try and stick it on my hdmi dvi cable ? (the thing is lying around, if I can get some use for it, I might as well try)
The Asus thing seems a great idea and I will probably end up buying it.
One thing I don't understand though... Why mini hdmi to VGA ??? Why not mini hdmi to DVI, if that needs a converter anyway, better make it dvi, no ? What about the resolution ? I don't want to get a stupid resolution on my screen because of problems with VGA (and I'm lucky I've still got a screen with VGA and DVI...).
Actually, what about a cable like this one ?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
I would be pissed of if I have to pay $50 for asus adapter if I can get one for 8$ on ebay...
Never mind, after a quick search on the internet, some people tried and it doesn't work...
But actually, I HAVE to ask. Why doesn't it work ? What is the problem ? hdmi is digital, dvi is digital... WHY ???
(I haven't ordered my adapter from asus yet, still looking for a cheaper solution.)
Edit again : what I saw that doesn't work was the hdmi to VGA cable, I couldn't find anything about hdmi to dvi... I might go to the shop tomorrow with the TF and ask if I can try a cable there...
Mini hdmi to hdmi to hdmi-dvi converter works. I've tested this configuration myself.
For the vga, you need a converter, like the asus hdmi-vga one.
Just check the xda forum, searching with hdmi dvi keywords.
You'll have the answers to your question by digging a little more.
My lg monitor works fine with mini hdmi to hdmi to dvi. The ui is in 720p on the screen but if you play 1080p HW accelerated video the resolution changes as well. Wanna see a picture of proof? ;-)
I also have the converter and this works also fine. Have a look at the thread in the Accessoires forum.

Firstly, the video part of HDMI is electrically compatible with DVI, that is, they are the same thing just over different wires in a different connector.
However
TFT monitors _may_ not sync down to the specific TV-based refresh rates that HDMI outputs often use. Unless your monitor advertises that it will do the TV resolutions/refresh rates like 1080p/720p etc then its unlikely the TF1010 will display on them. The video output of the TF101 is 720p scaled up to a 1080p signal can your monitors do 1080p?
I haven't the slightest clue... One is quite old, a samsung 2232BW (but that's my main display, so I won't use it with my TF) and the other one is about 1 year old, an HP crap given with a cheap computer...
I might as well buy the cable. Other than that, if my monitor can't handle the 1080p, would it work with the asus hdmi to vga converter ?
(BTW, the prices in the shop are totaly crazy. I went today and saw that the hdmi to dvi cables were about $90, and I found one on ebay, $7 shipping included, gold plated, 3 years warranty)

Issue with MHL adapter

I just got a MHL adapter for my phone to plug into my computer monitor at work but am having a bit of an issue. I have an HDMI to DVI cable and when I plug it into my monitor its a few seconds to get a picture and when it does it flashes for about half a second and then goes black and this happens until I change inputs or unplug. I tried it on another monitor in the office and it worked fine. Does anyone have any ideas why the MHL adapter wouldn't work with one monitor but works fine on another?
Maybe someone else can answer this for sure, but perhaps the monitor it works on has HDCP?

Does the nexus 5 support hml cable adapter?

I know the galaxy s4 does but on my nexus 5 it does not work...who else has tried it?
Only slimport works with the N5.

MHL cable doesn't work with the Nexus 5. You need a Slimport cable. When you plug in a Slimport cable, it works automatically (the display connected to the other end shows the same thing as the phone's screen), no app is needed.
The cables are not expensive, but get one which will power the phone also - HDMI display uses a lot of power, so this will prevent your battery from running down. I used the following cable from Newegg, Plugadget Micro USB HDMI Adapter SlimPort Micro USB 4K HDMI Audio Video Cable for Smartphone Tablets. It cost $14. However it took a long long time to get to me.

Samsung dex

Hi thanks for the add. I have just bought the Samsung dex and while it works on a tv thru hdmi cable. I have an old computer monitor sat there .I bought off eBay two leads one is the dvi to HDMI and a HDMI to monitor plug.
But when I use either it says there's no signal and won't launch dex.
Am I doing something wrong or can it only be HDMI tv to work ..
Hope you can help ..
Check this cables with a computer and see if you get any signal. Sometimes the issue lies with the cables, as they might be faulty.
The Dex could be outputting a resolution the monitoring doesn't like also.
