On a rooted Nook Color running 1.0.1 and attempting to install Froyo as per:

I am unable to push the file (system.img) to the sdcard
At first, I was unable to push any files to the sdcard, but remounting the rootfs enabled me to get the boot.img file there.
Every time I try it with the system.img file, the nook crashes after about 5 minutes and throws a protocol error in adb.
Can anyone suggest a fix for this.

I'm trying to play around with the hosts file through adb. I'm new to android from WinMo and trying to learn a few things but couldn't figure this one out.
when I push a new hosts file with:
Code:
adb push hosts /system/etc/hosts
a few seconds later the evo restarts and reverts back to the old hosts file with only localhost listed in there.
I ran into one tutorial that showed the person booting into recovery mode and moving the hosts file from the sdcard to the etc dir:
Code:
adb shell
mount /system
mount /sdcard
cp /sdcard/hosts /system/etc/hosts
exit
Does the hosts file have to be modified via recovery mode or am I doing something wrong by pushing it?
Any help or input is greatly appreciated.
Incase you dont know yet in the hundreds of post all over the rooting threads system is only writable in recovery. /system is nand locked when the OS is running.
ah ok. thanks.
now I'm a bit confused.
when in recovery mode after invoking
Code:
adb reboot recovery
I can't start a remote shell. I get the following error message:
Code:
D:\adb shell
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
--EDIT--
Guess I just had to run the batch file toast put together. [http://link.geekfor.me/evorecovery]
I upgraded to Cyangenmod 2.2 Froyo on my Kyros, but I decided to downgrade back to Eclair. So I wiped/factory reset. And restored my backup with 2.1 Eclair. I was able to root but I was unable to install clockworkmod recovery. And after doing more research I found that flash_image command is not in my system/bin folder so I'm unable to use the command in adb. I tried copying a flash_image.zip which i found on the forum to my sdcard so i could be able to copy it to system/bin but I can't because it's read-only. The only thing i cant think of now is change the permissions on system/bin directory and copy the flash_image file there, but how to do that??? And if that doesn't work what else can I do??
I tried downloading the update.zip from coby and copy the flash_image file into the file since coby removed the flash_image from the new update. When I tried to update from the the update.zip its giving me verification failed. So its impossible to modifiy the update the file without verification failure. And the old update file isnt working either, seems that when you update the to the new update.zip it prevents you from downgrading.
Solved!
I got it. Make sure your device is rooted, and you have SuperUser.
I downloaded Root Explorer, mounted the "system" directory as RW and then change the permissions on the directory, (I ticked everything, basically full access), then did the same for the "bin" folder. Then I copied my "flash_image" file what I got from my old backup and copied it to the "bin" folder.
I undid the permissions and flashed the recovery.img (which installs the ClockwordMod) with adb and then I was able to install the Android Market and Google Apps.
Got it solved on the same day, just didn't have the time to post it.
Please help ( i'm afraid i bricked the coby 7015)
Hi guys !!!
My coby kyros is in permanent bootloop . The only thing I can do is make it enter into recovery mode ( the original from coby stock ) . I did wipe data and cache but when I try to recover from update.zip it fails because I am using a modified version of this update that was intended for rooted devices - ( so in recovery mode it does not work since it needs the upadte from original stock )-
Is there a way to flash the correct update.zip to the coby via Windows XP ADB ( I have tried to use adb shell but it list no devices and I followed all the steps from another post to install the USB drivers for adb and it worked , but adb list no devices ) - HELP PLEASE
Thanks in advance

Hi guys !!!
I resolved my problem simply rebooting the PC and adding an adb push command to copy the correct update.zip in the sdcard

Friends,
Having issues with flashing a custom rom to just rooted HTC One X 2.20 (ATT). First Android phone for me, got it a week ago, and first run at any and all of these issues (just switched from iPhone, but still doing all of this using a Macbook Air). Here's the spread:
Unlock went fine, no issues.
Installed TWRP, DID NOT INSTALL SUPERUSER.
Managed to choke and wipe OS (along with caches, sdcard). Fastboot and adb work. I have full access to TWRP, however I cannot mount /sd to computer (Mac simply notes, when mounting, that the device is unreadable).
I managed to push both the rom I was hoping to install (aokp_evita_jb_build-4.zip), and gapps to sdcard with ADB, however neither file would show in TWRP's file manager (I placed them in the root dir of the phone). I attempted to run the ROM via fastboot to no avail. I did push the boot.img as directed.
As I did not install SuperUser when I was supposed to, I attempted to install the superuser.apk with ADB after the fact, with the resulting error stopping me in my tracks: /sbin/sh: pm: not found. The only resolution to this issue I could find did not seem to apply to my situation.
Are the lack of permissions granted by SuperUser the reason the rom and gapp .zip files do not appear in TWRP file manager? Can/should I continue to attempt installing the superuser.apk file? After digging through all of these godawful help requests (mine included), can/should I attempt to lock the bootloader and flash RUU? What am I missing that is painfully obvious to those with real experience in this mess?

Check the settings in TWRP. You should have everything mounted as writeable. Root files may not show up otherwise.

TWRP Settings does not appear to contain an options relating to this: Zip file sig. verification/Force MD5 check/Use rm -rf/ Skip MD5 generation/Enable MD5 verification/Ignore image size errors/Simulate actions for theme testing
Tried to use ADB sideload to load the ROM, didn't work.
I've continued searching through threads to find a situation similar to mine, no luck.
EDIT: Rebooted a couple of time, retried pushing gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip and the aokp rom mentioned above. They now appear under /sdcard
Tried to install both .zip files, and was met with a FAIL for the following reasons: E: Unable to mount '/sdcard' and E: Unable to mount storege
Hi all
I am trying to install a custon recovery program, which requires me to paste a file from the SD card to the /system/bin/ folder.
Have nearly managed it BUT when the new file is looked at it is 0.0 size rather than the original 25.5KB?
When i then try and use the flash_image file it doesn't work presumably as it is 0.0 size?!?
Am i missing something?
Thanks
i think there's a problem with the file. you can try to install a custom rom because all of them have clockwork mod recovery
I accidentally pushed the wrong rom to my OPO and then wiped the phone. Now I am stuck for I cannot push the proper ROM because I get a remote read-only file system error when pushing. If I reboot into twrp 3.1.1-0 and try to push, I get upto ~8% before I get I/O error.
I am not a linux wizz. I tried mount -o re, remount rootfs / in shell, but I got a seg fault.
Can anyone help me out?
Btw, I tried pushing RR-N-v5.8.5-20170924-bacon-Final.zip if anyone cared.
PS: restoring my backup fails.
Solved! I have no idea what solved it. Maybe my usb cable did not connect properly, who knows, but I have been able to push again. There went a few hours of my life
