Now I could be missing something really obvious here but I can't seem to stream an album off drop box?
I uploaded a few last night so went into the folders on my One S today and could see all the music. Only problem is I can only play one song at a time?? Where is the option to stream an album? If this isn't possible how can this be a solution to internal expandable storage??
Why not use Google Music?
Edit: Ah, guessing its not available in your country. Yeah that sucks then. This phone really needed 32GB onboard if they were going to remove the Micro SD.
Because I have dropbox and though it would work where I drop music in a file (which I own) and then I can play it from the devices its installed on. Which I can, but only one file at a time.
The best solution is Google music; even if it is not available in your country, it's not that hard to get it.
If you are bent on using Dropbox for your music, then try ES File Explorer. It has an option to browse online storage such as Box and Dropbox. You can then long press on each file and add it to the now playing play list. Not the elegant solution you are looking for, I know, but better than nothing.

I would have liked more than 16GB in my One S (receiving tomo ) But il just have to live with it
I do however like dropbox i use it alot since i made an account.. I guess i could just download my albums on the go, If memory gets full, delete it and download something else..
But yeah, Its not a perfect solution, A damn SD card slot isnt very big, Surely theres room for it somewhere ? ive got a collection of SD cards, from 2gb to 32gb - Pretty much useless now
When they said it has ropbox integrated I assumed they meant it was actually integrated to function as storage and not just as an app.

I've been using Subsonic to stream my music for a while and it works like a charm. It was really easy (for me) to setup but I've heard some people have a hard time with it. I would suggest checking it out, could solve your problem. Just be aware that the first month is free to stream and then its a one-time, $15 fee to license the server. Well worth it imo.

I decided to give google music a go, and I succesfully signed up for it and got it up and running fine via VPN from the netherlands. However, how do I install the app on my phone? play.google.com says it can't install the app cause of the country my phone is in...
I like Amazon Cloud (Music) better.....same as Google Music though
if you have an always on PC at home, there is nothing better than this.

In Germany i can only use 500MB on full speed (7200kbit/s) and after that i can only use download speed like 64kbit/s for the rest of the month... if i would use the dropbox as my music storage i would blow the 500 MB limit during the first week =D

Sounds about right.... I love my unlimited data plan. A bit costly, but averaging 2+Gb /month it's worth it
a high data plan / unlimited is now becoming a must !! especially with all this cloud storage and the amount of apps that require internet.
its not soo bad for people who can use BT hotspots (me) or have wifi almost everywhere..
i reckon i could survive on a contract that only had unlimited internet and 0 mins and 0 texts lol

So, a Maps update was released to the play store with "better offline support". Now, i've tried it, and - correct me if i'm wrong - it seems to be the same **** as before. You can only select a tiny part of the map, and i don't know if this has changed now, but with older versions of google maps using navigation, it was still using a huge amount of data, even though i downloaded that part of the map first.
I would really like to use Google Maps as my car nav, for its usability and design, but is there STILL no way to actually DOWNLOAD the maps of a whole country, and then NOT have it use data when i'm driving?

First, questions go in the Q&A Section.
Second, I believe the issue is that routes are not calculated on the device. It is my understanding that your position and your destination are sent to Google's servers where a route (or several route options) are calculated using several algorithms. Additionally, without using your connection to Google's servers, you'd never be aware of traffic incidents that would affect your choice of route. Total offline navigation may come in the future, but I don't believe it's really possible now.

On Google Maps? No.
Should it be possible to do that? Yes. Nokia does it. Does Nokia Maps (when offline) have the level of detail that Google Maps (online) has? No. Also, it takes somewhere between 2-3 GB of storage on Nokia maps.

Well i am using an external app that is doing exactly that - navigation without ANY data usage and the possibility to download whole countries - obviously without any real-time traffic information then. I don't like the looks of it as much as Google Maps, but at least you can use it as a nav. Traffic information is something that would barely use any data anyway, and if the calculation of the routes actually goes through Google's servers (and you're unable to deactivate this), then this is simply bad design and it renders the whole Google Maps Navigation virtually useless. If you're crossing your country's border and don't want to activate Roaming, the navigation stops, simply because it needs a connection (for whatever). If you're on a low data plan, you can't use it either, because it's just burning through those MBs, even if you did use the cumbersome offline map selection to pre-download some small area.

Ever tried to give your phone voice commands without internet? Generally speaking, Google services require an internet connection. It's kind of what their whole business is built on. It's far from ideal but it's the nature of the beast.
If you require offline turn by turn navigation just use the 3rd party apps such as the one you're already using.
Are you sure it's using a lot of data? I have a N7 2013 Wifi version. I used tethering with my N5 to use google maps on the tablet and it uses 5 mbs during 20 min of driving. I also think most of that was used when I first turned it on to find location. Considering every time you refresh facebook it uses about 1 mb, I don't think that's a lot at all and low data plans should be able to handle it.

Well i have 250 MB a month, so if it's using 5 MB for no apparent reason every time i try to use the navigation, then this is too much.

lol, i use a minimum of 400mb data per day. in reality, 5mb data isnt very much, barely any actually. maybe its time to upgrade your plan? or maybe a smartphone isnt right for you?

if you have a 250mb data plan, your smartphone is useless most the time unless you are always around wifi. and still, 5mb data is not much, regardless of what your data plan allows. again, upgrade your data plan, or understand that your tiny allotment of data is tiny. it doesnt make the 5mb data used seem more than it is, 5mb is still 5mb, regardless of how much data you are allowed to use. 5mb is not much data.

Are you actually serious right now? If you're on a plan with 4 GB a month, 5 MB is not a lot of data. If you're on a plan with 250 MB a month, 5 MB is a lot of data.
If you are a billionaire, 10000$ is not a lot of money. If you work at McDonalds, 10000$ is a lot of money.

it doesnt matter how much data you are allowed, 5mb is not much. just because your data plan is tiny, it doesnt make 5mb seem any bigger than it is. yes, you can use a "dumbphone" for your apparent smartphone use. and the answer to your question is no, i post wherever i feel like it.

I'm sorry Google doesn't cater to your specific want.
I love Maps and use it all the time and it works wonderful for me. You should probably use something else as it sounds like this app is not for you.

I like the app too. Since i don't use Facebook or anything data-heavy when i'm outside (aka away from wifi), my low data plan works fine, except for Google Maps navigation. That's why i am using another navigation app that's 100% usable offline, even though i would prefer Google Maps.
maps generally IS a huge data hog. with your data allotment for your plan, it sounds like maps isnt right for your use(even though you like to use it). unfortunately, it is what it is. maybe in the future itll use much less data, or will be made to be more useful when offline, but for now its a beast that demands to be fed by data.

But it's not for "no apparent reason". You're using 5 mb in order to use your navigation, just like you will use 5 mb to check your email a couple of times.

if you predownload a large area, it doesnt grab the detail. main roads/highways it would get, but the smaller roads and such remain for your data connection to grab when theres a need for them.
Hi guys, i recently got this adfoc.us popup or somethig and it shows on 99% of the webpages when i browse the web via chrome. Its probably a malware or something but I cant get rid of it. It also prompted me if i want to inspall sexy cafe. Apk or something.
Anyone has same problem and how can i get rid of it? Should i do factory reset?

You could try downloading an AV program off of Google Play Store, but you may have to factory reset.
You are not infected, but your router is. DNS is changed, go into router settings and put manual DNS from Google

Highly doubt its the router (unless remote admin is turned on, then you deserve it) sounds like hosts to me

I work in a isp company and yes it's a router. zte and tplink routers have more or less widely open wan access, either from web, cwmp or SNMP, so merely changing web access pass does not help some script kiddie plays with range of IP addresses and you have adfoc site on every computer, phone, etc

What does working for a isp company have to do with anything ?
adfoc.us is nothing more than 'bundling' malware not a virus (to be technical a redirect virus) that highjacks DNS and hosts files on windows machines also adds other malware hence it's called 'bundling'.
Its real name is adfocus.us browser hijacker, it's distributed by hook
A Hook is programmed as DLL file that it is capable to block the message of solicitation to a desirable site and achieve redirection, then a cyber criminals may use Windows Socket Layer Service Provider associated with SPI to get user’s transmitting data no matter you are using Firefox, IE or Chrome
If you have a "wide open" type of router, you shouldn't be using a computer or phone period
Been removing rootkits, virus, malware off of windows machines for many years, don't need a isp worker to tell me it's a router
Well, ISP worker tells you, from first hand experience that some Chinese routers can be manipulated regardless of web password and DNS can be changed.
That means ISP worker has seen DNS changed from our DNS to some address in Germany. And wide open router is something most users know nothing about especially regarding cwmp protocol.
And we have reports from our customers that every network device opens adfoc.us it's not really rocket science is it ? And windows is crap we get that but I'm somewhat sure my version is the correct one, especially because adfoc.us tried to install some apk file (see original post) Not sure if apk files work with windows

I tried surfing in safe mode on another wifi network at my office. I dont have any problem at all.
Not once this adfoc popped up.
It must be some third party app or the rooter as absbrain mentioned. If its the rooter I should have the same issue on my pc as well correct?

I am not opposed to the idea, its not new, but, first of all, this article is just about a year old, and new firmware has been out since then, have the users switched to the new firmware, who knows, 98% of windows people are point & click, that is the biggest problem, especially using android.
Second, like I said earlier, and what the article says also, remote admin should be disabled and change the default username and password, here in the states, dsl kinda faded out 10 years ago and those routers you list aren't common here, not saying this can't happen, but, OTOH a little common sense goes a long way.
Javascript is a popular way to get infected from websites, running things as noscript, ghost, etc, should help out a lot, there is a lot you can do to prevent this stuff from happening, most people are clueless or lazy or click happy.
Another way to help is to get rid of windows (every operating system can be hacked) (flame) but others are more secure by design, or for banking needs use a live linux cd/usb stick, 99% of people won't bother or even research the idea.
I look at this as pebak, and not knowing enough of the internet or their equipment and just clicking on anything, hence the point & click.
I run a few servers, none are windows, we do have windows clients. I try my best

Possibly. Unless it is Android only malware or affects your computer differently. If you have any lesser known apps installed try removing them. I would honestly suggest a factory reset.

Hi,
Its definetely the wi-fi rooter that i have w hich is TP Link.
I called my proveder they said there is a problem with the DNS. They reset my rooter online and it was fine for couple of days.
But now same thing happens. On both my wife and mine mobile phones surfing is impossible.
It automatically swithches the link to a porn site. Same thing happens as a pop up on my PC as well.
Any solution to fix this or I should get a more expensive rooter?

Sounds like your router may have been compromised. Try a complete reset of it including updating it's firmware.

Tried that, same thing happens.

Have you tried malwarebytes on your pc's?

I would recommend the following:
1) Hard reset all your devices. Back up your data but then completely wipe the phone (/sdcard as well).
2) Disconnect your PCs. If you are savvy enough I would recommend running a Linux distro for a few days (so you can at least still use the computer).
3) Get a CD (not usb stick due to writableness) and download several AV tools (quick Google will yield some results). Take the PC offline (unplug ethernet/disable wifi), put the CD in, run a few scans and get it cleaned out.
4) Manually take your router and disable DHCP/DNS interally, forward your DHCP requests if you decide to keep DHCP on to a known good DNS server like 8.8.8.8.
5) Ideally, swap the router out for a new one or use your own instead of #4.

3) Get a CD (not usb stick due to writableness) and download several AV tools (quick Google will yield some results). Take the PC offline (unplug ethernet/disable wifi), put the CD in, run a few scans and get it cleaned out.
4) Manually take your router and disable DHCP/DNS interally, forward your DHCP requests if you decide to keep DHCP on to a known good DNS server like 8.8.8.8.
5) Ideally, swap the router out for a new one or use your own instead of #4.

I have been searching a lot about different file transferring apps. After googling a lot I kept stumbling into three apps; Xender, SuperBeam & SHAREit. I found that Xender can trasnfer file with just WiFi (without WiFi Direct) by using Virtual Router & Client concept. But I couldn't find anywhere if SuperBeam & SHAREit can do the same... All my SmartPhones have WiFi Direct & so do my friends' SmartPhones. So there is no way of checking if they work without WiFi Direct. So can anyone please confirm or verify, if SuperBeam & SHAREit apps will work wihtout WiFi Direct?

There is no reason to use Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi direct so Xender never carry Bluetooth functions.

And answer is superbeam can also use hotspot to send files, for that you need to go into superbeam's setting and then go into sending and select preferred direct mode as hotspot (instead of auto)

I asked about Bluetooth compatibility because I wanted to cover all bases. And thanks for clarifying that. But don't you think it will be cool if Xender was able to send file even when wifi and wifi direct facilities are unavailable?
I've been messing around with file transfer apps myself. On the play store there's "WiFi...." by app dev dubloo (I think) its been a bit since. Anyway, that app allows files from device to a computer with an easy to use interface via web browser. I guess the app acts like a server. If you are interested... ICE COLD APPS have *Servers*/*Synchronize* "Ultimate" by way of the play store. Plus, there is a support or feedback thread for each here on XDA. If you were looking at using superbeam I would recommend picking up the pro key as well. The main app functions well on its own, like, the pro key adds just enough at the right price to say heck with it and pick it up for $3 or so. There are a couple different options to choose from before starting a file transfer, too. And I'm pretty sure+don't quote me+ that each option has a brief description of the way the files move from device to device. Also, there is a windows app to compliment. Last, certainly not least -SimPfile(also on play) I think using WiFi direct. Like, both devices need to be on the same WiFi network. Less options than superbeam, no pro key. And for what you pay for it, its free, BTW... It gets the job done if you are looking for a straight forward app without the bells and whistles. And just to name drop, FX file explorer has a small pay once add-on for media sharing also. Feeling adventurous? Tired of of the run of the mill apps? Give that a shot.... Its been in production and updated since either the end of GB or the beginning of ICS. Each of those apps has been good to me.✌?

On connecting my stock N5 to my make-shift WiFi hotspot on my laptop running ubuntu, I could find huge data uploads at full speed each time. Around 600MB of data at 60KBPS(Well that is my speed cap) I don't know why, all my backup/auto upload settings are turned off, and I don't have any other app which does uploads/data transfers, any other reason you guys can think of?

Try installing the app OS Monitor.
Its on
Google Play
or
F-Droid
It will display every tcp or udp network connection, and query it via WHOIS.
You should be able to see the offending app or site gathering or sending data.

I've tried using various network monitor, nothing showed up suspicious, even went to the extent of using Wireshark. I will try this out and let you guys know.
Also check for the baidu folder.

Nope no baidu folder, no apps which connect to the Chinese though i have a TWRP file which seems to come back no matter how many times i delete it(can't open it even)
