I have been searching a lot about different file transferring apps. After googling a lot I kept stumbling into three apps; Xender, SuperBeam & SHAREit. I found that Xender can trasnfer file with just WiFi (without WiFi Direct) by using Virtual Router & Client concept. But I couldn't find anywhere if SuperBeam & SHAREit can do the same... All my SmartPhones have WiFi Direct & so do my friends' SmartPhones. So there is no way of checking if they work without WiFi Direct. So can anyone please confirm or verify, if SuperBeam & SHAREit apps will work wihtout WiFi Direct?
I have a small question, will Xender work with just Bluetooth (without WiFi & WiFi Direct)?
Hi Satya,
Xender uses Wi-Fi direct technology which means that it can transfers data up to 50 times Bluetooth speed, Most of the Smartphone today have Wi-Fi
There is no reason to use Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi direct so Xender never carry Bluetooth functions.
Thanks
Firstly your question does not belong to this forum
And answer is superbeam can also use hotspot to send files, for that you need to go into superbeam's setting and then go into sending and select preferred direct mode as hotspot (instead of auto)

I asked about Bluetooth compatibility because I wanted to cover all bases. And thanks for clarifying that. But don't you think it will be cool if Xender was able to send file even when wifi and wifi direct facilities are unavailable?
I've been messing around with file transfer apps myself. On the play store there's "WiFi...." by app dev dubloo (I think) its been a bit since. Anyway, that app allows files from device to a computer with an easy to use interface via web browser. I guess the app acts like a server. If you are interested... ICE COLD APPS have *Servers*/*Synchronize* "Ultimate" by way of the play store. Plus, there is a support or feedback thread for each here on XDA. If you were looking at using superbeam I would recommend picking up the pro key as well. The main app functions well on its own, like, the pro key adds just enough at the right price to say heck with it and pick it up for $3 or so. There are a couple different options to choose from before starting a file transfer, too. And I'm pretty sure+don't quote me+ that each option has a brief description of the way the files move from device to device. Also, there is a windows app to compliment. Last, certainly not least -SimPfile(also on play) I think using WiFi direct. Like, both devices need to be on the same WiFi network. Less options than superbeam, no pro key. And for what you pay for it, its free, BTW... It gets the job done if you are looking for a straight forward app without the bells and whistles. And just to name drop, FX file explorer has a small pay once add-on for media sharing also. Feeling adventurous? Tired of of the run of the mill apps? Give that a shot.... Its been in production and updated since either the end of GB or the beginning of ICS. Each of those apps has been good to me.✌?

What are some good, freeware WIFI router apps that generally work on win mobile devices? I've been searching and haven't found anything worthwhile. You all are always reliable on recommendations so thought I'd ask...
Search for HTC Wifi Internet Sharing, I've been successfully using it on my Kaiser for months, and it works great, especially for freeware. But, if you want to do more interesting stuff, WMWifirouter, by our own member Chainfire, is an excellent payware solution.
+1 for HTC's free app
I don't use it all the time, but when I have needed to provide my own wifi to my laptop it has worked flawlessly.
The internet sharing app doesn't seem to do WIFI broadcasting. I'm trying to get this going before a deploy so that it will be much easier to have internet access whenever I want to email home.
I'm not so into advanced WiFi stuff, is there a chance you can set up a WiFi network on your phone and then connect to with your phone?
Right. That's what we have established... A program is available from another forum member but it costs some money. I'd like to know how to do it in some free fashion though.
I have tried the paid program and it is very nice, I just don't know that it's really worth the expenditure.

Most likely because the KF doesn't support AdHoc WiFi connections.
Like Nandorian said, use something like DropBox.
There are many other alternatives.

Yes it does, I'm using Ad-hoc wi/fi switcher and can switch back and forth between the two. I use it to connect to my HTC Hero.
Not by default it doesn't.... The OP didn't provide much info about what he has done, but a good guess is that he isn't using that and by default the KF doesn't support AdHoc WiFi connections.

Doesn't matter who's fault it is, It supports it or I wouldn't be able to switch from infrastructure mode to ad-hoc mode. Does require root to do this..

I just hacked the radio in my wife's X2 to enable the hotspot while bypassing Verizon... now it throws out infrastructure wifi.

Can I ask you to share brief tutorial for noobs how to do that. I wish to send files from Galaxy S2 to Kindle. Without internet access. Idea is to use my S2 as ext storage
i have a KF and a galaxy s. i use dropbox too but it's not feasible for large files. i use swiftp for all my devices. really simple and easy. my galaxy is fully modded with a ROM, but i didn't want to mess with the KF too much so it's not rooted just sideloaded a few apps.
AirDroid is great for interfacing Mobile>PC>Mobile, which I tend to like for backup/checksum options. It's not a direct ICU connection, though; which sounds like what you're looking for.

It's quite close to my needs. But, as far as I undestand Airdroid work with PC, and I am looking to find a way to connect KF with phone via Wi-Fi, but don't using Internet (long flights, for example)
Anyway, thank you! Button pressed
Backatcha!
Thank you u all
Dropbox is a good choice, but only for small size file. Because it takes a long time for large size file!
you can use app "file expert" to share between two android devices by wifi. special, if your device have wifi hotspot, you can share without data internet.
i tested by LG P500 and my KF
I use WellFTP server from the marketplace. (Called WIFI Transport on icon but WellFTP server inside the application)
I run this on the Kindle. Then from the Phone I run ESFileExplorer and ftp to it to do bidirectional transfers. As long as they are on the same network (WIFI) this will work. I have not tried this on ADHOC, since I am running a stock non-root Kindle.
Get a nexus. It supports USB hosting. Lol

Use Tonido to share files between your kindle fire and Android phone
I'm stock, so not sure if this will work on rooted?
I found online a program called "Print to Kindle". I have it installed on my computer and when you go into the "print" option on anything, one of the options is print to kindle. I hit that and the next time I turn on my Fire, it downloads into the documents and I have it.
It's pretty cool and easier than emailing it to your kindle email.
But yes, dropbox, sugarsync, or box work good too!
Good day fellow androidians!
I have two android devices. An HTC Inspire 4g and a HTC Jetstream tablet. I have an unlimited data plan on the Inspire (I know lucky me ) and I'm currently tethering it to my Jetstream tablet.
What I would like though is to access the files on my Inspire on my tablet and vice versa through smb, ftp, dlan, or something. If it can't be done vice versa that's fine. I just don't want to use something like dropbox or have to pair both devices by bluetooth. I want to be able to access the files seamlessly and wirelessly the way I can access them on a computer with the Samba Filesharing App.
I know there has to be a way to do this, but have looked everywhere and can't seem to find the solution.
[edit]: The HTC Jetstream isn't rooted so that probably cancels out the vice versa part then right? If so, again that's fine.
Check post #3 for the solution.
I did a quick search on the market and found a Wireless File Transfer Pro app. Its free. I tested it out. When you set the app to active it gives you an ip address that you use to connect to the phone or tablet. It gives you an ip address of xxx.xxx.x.xxx:xxxx and you just type that into the browser and it pulls up a file directory where you can access all your files. It had a problem with exiting the app though. The file transfer didn't want to stop. I had to force stop from the settings but that might be a app issue. It seemed simple. Hope that helps.
Never mind. I figured it out lol.
For those who would like to know how to do this here you go:
Requirements
1. Your devices need to have DLNA.
2. You need to download SoftMedia Player from the market
3. You need to be on the same WiFi or tethered together.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.softmedia.cybergarage.trial&hl=en
Once you installed SoftMedia Player on both devices open it up on both and press Menu.
Then tap Preferences.
Tap on Share Contents.
Set Shared Contents Settings and Device Name if you want.
Tap back to go to the main interface of the app.
Tap "choose a media source"
Tap on your source (SoftMedia Server by default or the device name you set).
Tap "browse and play media"
Browse your files, play them and enjoy
Thanks for the quick reply shugga101.
Was writing my post the same time you wrote yours that didn't even get to see it till after lol.
Hope this helps other people.
softmedia player is gone
Hey Mudcat, the link you provided gives a not found, and a search of the play store doesn't return any results for "softmedia player". do you have any other suggestions to replace it?
I know myself i use wifi share. Only need it installed on one device, works through a browser on the other device. Works over wifi (of course) or via android ap. Just for some reason while hosting over androidAP it doesnt list the Ip. But I got that memorized already, plus page is bookmarked. Quick n easy.
I'll have to look into your method. Sounds interesting. Glad you got it sorted and thx for sharing!

Great app.
Hello, I am already using SHAREit app on my Samsung Galaxy and iPhone 5 but I am wondering that if its available on PC/Mac or not, can anyone help me out with this? I found this site claiming that SHAREit is available on Mac but I can't find its credibility, so can anyone confirm that its available for Mac or not.
Yes, you are correct, SHAREit app is always amazing in front of its peers like Xender and Zapya but and that's why it's much better to download SHAREit to make file transfer much easy in Android and iPhone.
Great SHAREit

Different kinds of data transfer application are available on the Web like Xender, Zapya, Superbeam etc, but one of the best apps where I personally used is shareit, it's also available for shareit for PC and laptops. Its data transfer rate is compared to other apps is high and low network wifi easily to transfer data. After reading different views and getting more information about shareit.
Download this For Mac too.

This is one area where Android has failed miserably, and just like App Data backup, Google doesn't seem to be interested in fixing this problem.
THE REQUIREMENT
Ability to transfer files to other devices WITHOUT the use of internet or an intermediary device such as the router in a LAN.
Apps like SHAREit, Zapya, etc. were always a hit or a miss. They NEVER worked reliably. I have tried several apps in this category and it was the same story with all of them.
Has this problem been fixed today?
What is the best way to transfer files between two or more devices (Android, iOS, Windows, macOS) WITHOUT using internet or being connected to the same WiFi network?
Cross-platform support would be great.
Excerpt from here
You might want to take a look at WiFi Direct and alike. There are several apps on the Playstore making use of this, like e.g.
SuperBeam | WiFi Direct Share (with a fall-back to "hotspot mode" in case of WiFi Direct problems: one device creates a hotspot, the other connects to it)
WiFiShare : Share Files Freely states it brings WiFi-Direct like functionality on lower version of Android, it also enables to send large size files to multiple people at a time -- which I understand as it does not depend on WiFi Direct, but emulates it itself.
Fast File Transfer utilizes WiFi tethering to achieve the same. The description states you could even send files to an iPh**e (censored It plugs into the "Share" menu.
WiFi Shoot! WiFi Direct uses WiFi direct
One of those should be fitting your needs.

If you check, 2 of the links don't exist, and the other 2 seem to have been abandoned by their developers.
Internet is cheap today, and cloud/ streaming services are becoming the norm today. Still, there are situations where we may want to transfer large amounts of data between devices while on the move. A proper solution (like AirDrop from Apple) doesn't exist in Android today, unfortunately.
As I mentioned in OP, I have tried several apps for a long time and they were all a hit or miss. None of them were reliable. The issue was devices not showing up in the hotspot that these apps would create. So the question of transferring files wouldn't arise.
