[Q] X10 multitouch without rooting? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, i have this user who claimed to (might be the first in the world as i speak) have enabled X10 multitouch without rooting his device.
As i try to reason with him that he is wrong and might be getting the wrong information, he speaks even bolder and louder (even to a point of doubting the wonderful guys here at XDA of their hardwork?)
He was trying to sell his used X10 on a local forum.
The link is here:
lowyat.net/topic/1731902
Below are quoted from him
Most important things that i never HACK or ROOT my X10i for this multitouch input ( Believe me i have my own legal way that not break the law )

Sure it dont make sense for you because you think only XDA Developers can do it only not even Sony Ericsson Company can do it with out rooting and flashing the phone but do you use your big brains to think Sony Ericsson Updates over their own Firmwares and Please Open Your Big 2 Balls of eyes Japan Have its own multitouch update by Sony Ericsson so is that proving it root or flashing the phone ?
So think before you say anything in Lowyat Forum Sony Ericsson have its own people to make those updates , XDA Developers is based in roothing and flashing phone and i have my own way to do it. Anything possible to happen in this earth only you are the one who dont understand and keep saying XDA Developers can do it with rooting and flashing the phone.
My last word is if you so believe on XDA Developers why don`t you do their follower dont believe in other people only believe in XDA Developers. Example there was a people coming to tell you there is a fire on top of your hse and you dont believe and sitting there stupidly waiting for those so called XDA Developers come to save your life.

So can anyone confirm what he said is true/false?
because i also own a X10 and i have yet to root mine to get multitouch.
Thanks for reading.

Hello, You aren't allowed to post you email apparently and it has been removed.
Making this forum the only way for us to help you.
First of all you should ensure wether you have a MileStone (EU) or Droid (US)
You can tell by looking at your phone and checking if it says Verizon.
If it does, I can't help you any further and you should ask for help in the Droid forums. If it doesn't, I'm close to sure we can help you out
So now that you know which phone you have, you've probably done half of the work already. I can't really tell what your problem is, but I guess you have these 2 issues:
1, You have no GPS-Application. You can buy, or get one for the phone. I'm talking about softwares like Navigon and iGo, which aren't free though, but allow you to navigate without internet (for if you don't have an internet contract.)
If you don't want to pay any money and own an internet subscribtion in your contract, you can just use Google Maps to navigate! Update it through the android market and you're good to go!
2, Now for the second issue:
Unfortunately we don't have any chance of getting custom roms! Only the Motorola Droid Does! There is a way through nandroid backups, but seen the fact that you are just new to the whole thing, I'd recommend you to explore the forums and later on install MotoFrenzy, or the official update to Froyo from motorola, which they will, according to them, release by the end of 2010
Hope I helped!
Greetings, Mike

Yes unlock Sensation Bootloader.
yes unlock bootloader... but this will not help... what will really make htc unlock their bootloader is if we boycott them and say we will not buy the sensation at all if its locked and convince others not to buy it... but its a longshot so i vote yes
Ofcourse Yes!
Yes unlockable.

I doubt this is the best way to make a petition. Can't we make a petition on Petitiononline.com or something? We would reach a wider audience and get more signatures. We could send it to Android and tech related websites for people to sign. So we can make a more powerful statement to HTC and maybe also Motorola that the public wants to have the choice to do whatever they want with their devices.

Agreed, but the threads in this Sensation section aren't getting many hits. I'd say ask moderators for a petition on the homepage or something that catches more eyes than here.
But great idea, I was waiting for someone to start a petition. Keep up the good work! Let's maximize the potential of this petition!
I agree that the use of a petition web site outside of XDA would be useful. Not everyone who would want to vote is a registered XDA member and I'm not the type of person to be inclined to register somewhere just to cast a vote.
Now, if you were to use something like Facebook... I'm sure you'll get more votes there. Plus, other web sites probably wouldn't have a problem linking to it from their web sites (Android Central, Phandroid, Engadget, etc.).

wont buy a locked sensation
this device sounds like the promise of the year,
but i wont think about buying it till i see the development threads filling with custom ROMs .
i love HTC hardware , but i hate the sense !!!!! and although the sense3 looks better it will still be far behind Cyanogen mods, performance wise .
and as a HERO owner ( hopping soon to be ex ) i know how HTC neglects the old devices . had 1.5, HTC promised 1.6 and then they promised 2.0, and finally when i got 2.1, everyone already had froyo. ahh
I dont want to see their stupid flipclock weather thing ever again
bottom line is:
only when HTC sensation will run CM7 ill buy it..
Why is it locked in the first place? Noobs won't know what bootloader is and so won't be messing up their phones and people like us who mod our phones know what we are doing (or at least think we do) and so won't mess up our phones anyway... Having it unlocked just saves us the time of having to hack it to unlock. Really don't see what they achieve??!?
116 (yes) is better than 5 (not) but I want to know who voted not?
If you don't like Sensation just don't vote... (samsung fans)...

And i have an HTC Evo 3D , ive always been in to technology , especially Phones , im just ready to take it to the next level and start rooting .
Yeah, I had a blackberry bold 9780 since the day it was released, and I always used to follow this site on android development. But when the Nexus S was released on Rogers, I had to switch, and it took me a while to figure out how to Root the device but I love everything about this phone and technology for that matter.

so In a sense , What does rooting do for you.?
It gives you full control of the phone. One some phones, you can't do some things without root. Like screen shot programs need a level of access to your phone that is only available if you root it.
one of the best parts of rooting is having the ability to use customs roms which add a ton of features to your device. You can also over clock for faster speeds, take screen shots, use custom themes to make your phone look cooler, and a lot more.
Cheers
P.S. if this is good information hit the thanks button
If you want to learn some app development you should check out Cornboyz youtube channel.. i was in your position a couple months ago and that helped me a lot. Theres nothing about rooting there but start at tutorial 1 and its an awesome intro to eclipse and android dev

As a member posted above, it gives you full access to your phone. So you can change the rom, kernal, radio band etc. It's a neat thing to mess around with if your into technology and these types of things.
But do be aware that rooting your phone does void your warranty

you mess around too much, though, and you brick your phone, so you gotta be careful

My turn to ask you a question, n00bs.

Ok, Some people new to the XDA forums hate being called n00bs. But if your post count is less then 100 posts... You're a n00b.
It's ok. We love you
But riddle me this... Why do you want to root your phone or install a custom rom? Most roms posted to the developer section are unstable and not ready enough for normal phone users to use. Most roms in there are for advanced users. And I really don't think everyone in the sgs4g forum are advanced. (I know who you are if you're advanced, or I might not if you don't post at all...). You could brick your phone, you could make your phone un-returnable. You WILL void your warranty.
A lot of n00bs have problems installing roms or rooting their phones, but why do it in the first place?
Are you doing it to install a root required application?
Are you doing it to update your rom to a newer version?
Not getting the support you expected from t-mo/samsung? Do you really think we are going to continue to support you for the next 5+ years? (cause I know I wont )
Vote and post here. I really want to understand not just what you want, but why!?

Oh yea You know I love releasing WIP and watching n00bs squirm in their mom's computer chair...
There are two ways to brick the phone...
create a blank file that is any size smaller then 256k... heimdall it to the sbl partition. BAM! YOU ARE HARD BRICKED
raise your phone way up over your head, and throw your phone on the ground as hard as you can (TOUCH DOWN!!!)
Otherwise, you can still get into download mode, and you are just soft-bricked. This phone is amazing that way
Soo if this is my first post what that mqkes me ?!!
Anyway ...
I rooted my phone so i can use an app (yes one app is enough reason for me )

I personally screwed up my very first T-Mobile G1. The first time I flashed a from I was able to get the HTC Hero Rom... Somewhere along the line I became unsatisfied (the same night) and tried to force sd-ext, which was said to be possible using adb... Lack of sleep turned my phone into a paper weight. Anyway, one of my biggest fascinations was being able to get around carrier and manufacturer rules: expanding limited storage, removing apps considered system by force... But once you pop, you just can't stop... Now I'm happy to have a nearly complete OS people from T-Mobile say the phone can't handle. For now having the smoothest and most responsive phone I could have on the latest OS does it for me. I don't want jelly bean. I'm happy to have what I got.
I also built my first computer when I was 13 and I haven't yet stopped being fascinated by technology.
Oh and as for warranty voided, a bricked phone is the same as one dropped in the pool, ran over by your truck and eaten by your dog... Easily replaced if you say it is stolen. I think my deductible is like $140, not terribly bad for the clear cut instructions.

Edit ohh btw will you call a noob for somebody who doesn't read the instruction and rules and start crying because he/she screw his/her phone ?

Well whether or not you want to call me a n00b is up to you. But as for the question...
I needed root to run FB's unlocker, so I could unlock the phone from T-Mo and move it to my current provider. Requires root, and custom ROMs are always nice to have, as well as the improved performance, battery life, overall change in aesthetics, and the ability to use ICS on the SGS4G, with all the yummy features that it includes, unlocking the full potential of the device, and overall as a hobby.
So what should I check as my answer for the poll if I'm a noob?
Im a noob
This is my first post on this forum but ive been rooting phones an installing custom roms since i was 10

I love it when people get butt hurt for being called a noob. Noobs!
First off this Blaze is not mine....I have way better phones I'm just broke and have no wifi...don't even get me started on the tethering...anyway when I rooted my Vibrant some years back I thought I needed root to unlock it...then when I rooted it I started learning about [email protected]&! and completely forgot about unlocking it...performance. Im still learning...soft brick on Odin cause I'm impatient and stuff. Most people I see using phones barely know how to turn them on and don't use them for much more than facebook...giving them a flashed overclocked joint is like given a gun to 2 year old..sorry for the rant..long story short I root cause if I want ICS or JB on my $&[email protected] I'm gonna get it and if it ain't 1.4 GHz minimum I don't want it. Stay motivated

I think for the most part it was because I knew the phone would not get further support from t-mo or Samsung. And no I don't expect 5+ yrs of support. I'll be happy with what I get till I can upgrade phones.
And, yes I am a senior member but I thought I'd chime in anyway since my senior member status is still fairly new.

You can call me an escalated noob. I'm going to get help from team unknown which I am part of now and my Java mentor who taught me Java flawlessly. I'm going to be developing a heavily themed ics rom. But don't worry tuk I'm not going to bother you by asking every question I have, I shall self teach myself about android with the help of my mentor. So you can call me a developing noob.
powser
My profile says I've been a member since 2007 with 130 posts. I'm pretty sure I've been a member longer than that. Anyway..... Custom roms is my reason. Back in my WinMo days, I created a few roms.

[Q] Info required

Hello,
Just wondering if I could get some info pls. We have just bought our son his first mobile (HTC sensation xe) which is on a plan.
He has downloaded some game apps (Simpsons, Minecraft etc) but says he needs to jailbreak his phone to get further access into them, to gain free things (donuts for simpsons game)
I guess my questions are:
What is Jailbreak ?
Is there a process to do this without possibly damaging the phone ?
Is it really necessary for this to be done ?
I have had a quick look through some of the forum pages and noticed that "rooting" the phone sounds like what he wants to do
My concerns are that if this type of thing is attempted, we may end up paying for an unusable phone for the next 24 months.
Any ifno on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Jailbreak is a term which is normally used for apple devices to get the devices out of their "golden cage" which means to do things with it that were not intended by the manufacturer. And yes it's nearly the same like rooting on android devices.

If he just wants to root in order to get paid things for free, you might want to give a lesson in "doing the right thing" instead of letting him go nuts from the instant gratification of stealing everything you want.
