Is there any 1 click root apps for the thunderbolt yet like universal root or z4 type app?

No. There are "easy" root apps for Windows (and some scripts for Mac/Linux) available...
I am not sure if there will be a one-click app for quite some time. If you read the process for rooting you will understand that you are required to downgrade the firmware in order to obtain permanent root (through an exploit).
I don't think that there should be any 1 click apps for rooting. These devs spend alot of time setting stuff up for us if you want to use their stuff then learn how to do the basics atleast. Besides the more that learns how to do "technical" stuff the stronger the community will be.

I disagree. I understand and believe that people should learn what they are doing before they begin but there are some people out there who just want to remove bloat. Nothing else. And for those people, I think a 1 click root should be available. I went through probably 2 or 3 hours learning how and why to do the root method on this phone after doing the same thing on my old phone (Droid X) because I plan on doing so much with it I want to know exactly what is going on. People like me, should go through the comprehensive root so we have far less "I flashed ____ and bricked my phone what do I do?!?!?!?!1" but for people who just want to remove bloat or use tethering should once again not have to spend hours figuring out what adb is/does.
And even if everyone in the community learns the "technichal" stuff many of them aren't going to help out anyone else. They are going to root, ROM, and GTFO.

All I was doing is stating my opinion which still stands at if u don't want to learn stuff leave it stock. And even with a 1 click root app there is still a chance for stuff to go wrong. Nothing in this world is always predictable.

I wasn't arguing with you just as you said I was stating my opinion.
And the difference between running through an hour long rooting process and a 20 minute 1 click root is, well it's quite obvious what the difference is. Also, we know nothing is perfect that's why everything out there (ROMs, kernels, rooting methods, etc) all have liability warnings, the same as 1 click roots.

I don't really have a desire to learn ADB so I won't, but I will still root my phone.
Actually, if I absolutely HAD to learn to use ADB to root, I probably would, then I would promptly forget what I've learned since I'd probably never use it again, until it came time to root my next phone. So I don't see the point, just respectfully disagreeing and sharing my opinion
I use a MAC and a PC and I've built PC's, but I really don't care to learn how all the background s/ware stuff works, but I can add components like a mad-woman.
Thats exactly what I want to do. Just remove the tons of crap that came built in. A one click root solution would be a lifesaver.
The current root methods are way too complicated for me.

Yeah, totally... and we should stop using push button car ignitions and even key starts. People should have to poor gas in their carburetors and hand pump up the pressure and crack start it. This way people will better understand how the engine works in case they need to work on it after a break down.
What about lighters and stoves!? 1 click to start a fire, wtf? 2 stick method I say, do people even realize what fire is and where it comes from these days?

For the love of God... not another effing debate about one-click solutions and learning ADB. Noob this, noob that... developer this, developer that.
The ultimate point is that nobody is entitled to anything... but once a solution has been developed in an open community, nobody is prohibited from using it based upon their level of experience.
I personally feel that it is beneficial to know how the root method works, but there are people who could care less and just want to root their device without fully understanding the process/risks/technicalities.
The bottom line is that they are free to do this and they are "allowed" to use one-click root solutions without having technical knowledge or understanding what ADB is!

Well what good is root at this point? The radio has issues, the camcorder app is bunked, txt app is wishy washy, ringtones for specific contacts switches, etc. I am waiting on root at this point! I have rooted every android phone I have had and this one just seems to flake with root at this time. I still don't understand wth it's doing! If I had a clue, I would write a one click. Just makes it less of a head ache if you have more than one tb to do. And you won't have noobs pop up asking wth did I do wrong. And yes I'm a noob too, but I also read b4 I venture into the unknown. I still say if u wanna learn go buy a book and if ya don't understand it then ask. Why not just put a noob section on each device forum? Let people help the ones that can't do it on their own. Heck make it a mandatory $10 donation fee if ya gotta have someone show you what to do. Seems like no one here has ever had to ask for help. I fix my father's car, not because I really want to. Just because if he does it, it won't ever run again. He ain't got a clue! Some people just aren't able to understand things like others. Be nice and quit bashing noobs.

Even rooting w/o flashing a new custom ROM is causing issues?
From what I have seen even just straight root causes issues. I really prefer root without flashing a lot of extra. Simple and to the point. Gives me access to files without the head ache of something going wrong.

I rooted to stock and ran that for almost a week before flashing a rom. I had no issues whatsoever.

Is it assumed that there will never be a true easy 1-click root solution for this phone?
I am on my last week of eligibility to return this phone and if there will not be the same kind of support for this phone from the dev community, then I would like to know so that I can return it.

There is already a ton of support and development for this phone. There are several ROMS and kernels already, and the root process is very easy to do. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to learn how ADB works. Frankly, if you feel like you deserve to have superuser access to a *IX operating system then damnit you should know what the hell you're doing; that's just my 2 cents though. I wouldn't just turn over root access to my server rack to someone who doesn't understand and appreciate the responsibility of unfettered access to the operating system.
That being said, I am of the mindset that everyone should take the opportunity to learn how these systems work, and would gladly help anyone willing to do so. I have loved Unix based operating systems ever since I got my hands on the first release of Slackware Linux, love the BSDs, and have a lot of fun using Solaris.

I see that the phone comes with tons of useless apps that I want to get rid of and I heard about "rooting" my phone.
Whats is rooting anyway? What are the pros and cons?
How can you trust the person that made the root program etc

Probably the two most important things you need to know are: search for answers to your questions before you ask them publicly, and follow directions to the letter. After that, things will go pretty smoothly for you.

In a nutshell, "root" is the superuser of a unix system. Like Administrator on windows, only even more powerful. The phone runs a linux OS so at the core it is unix-like. "rooting" can mean a lot of things, but basically, it is getting sufficient privileges on your phone to be able to read/write whatever you want and from there, change how the phone behaves.
If you do decide to root i suggest using bubbys one click. I know it reads scary, but its actually very easy. There is even a vid linked to it to show you better. Good luck!

If you're that concerned about it, I don't recommend rooting your phone.
FWIW, I do malware cleanup/puter repair as a side gig and I haven't come across anything on here that wasn't legit.
Use the Ace Hack Kit and follow the instructions to a T. If you hit a bump in the road, search first then ask if you cannot find a definitive or concise resolution for your issue.
Anyone who is new to smartphones (or just android period) i don't recommend you rooting your phone..
I say learn about it some more. watch some videos, read some threads, then read them again.. and again.. to it sticks in your head..
then i suggest you should root.. it sucks to see thread saying "help i bricked my phone!"

+1 I Second that. I'd like root my phone, but since I'm in no hurry, I'm on here reading and learning about it. I'll prolly root after December if AT&T doesn't let me utilize my upgrade to the newest HTC device they have then, as I paid for this via off contract pricing. I had heard from Desire HD owners, that it is tricky to root given HTC's signed bootloaders. Hence the, what looks to a noob, as an overwhelming and potentially complicated process. Like the others have said just read all you can about it, and when your ready to take the plunge, follow the instructions word for word, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Well, I paid off contract as well, waited before rooting, not because I was scared of "bricking" my phone or because I didn't "trust these people" because it might "be a virus," I wanted to get familiar with how the phone operates in an unmodified state -- to get a baseline.
Really, it's not that big of a deal to root. You aren't going to brick your phone. The only true bricks (will not even power up) that I've heard of happened with some people who ran a certain function within a certain version of clockwork recovery that had a bad bug.
Everything else is a "soft brick," meaning it looks scary, but it's actually fixable.

I think people should see what the stock ROM experience is like for about a month or so before rooting and flashing another ROM, especially if this is your first Android phone.
Has anyone used these that are adverstised on craigslist? I am to much of a noob to try any rooting process other that a one click so i thought maybe i should let a "pro" do it. I was just wondering if anyone has had negative experiences

honestly dont.
Its not worth any cost they charge to root your phone. I did a one click method for Droid og, and a three click process for thunderbolt. They work fine, and I know there is a debate on auto or manual root, regardless they both work.
I was like you when I first rooted my droid and was scared of bricking the phone etc. If you follow the steps and just go slow and make sure you have everything downloaded properly, rooting is easy.
What three step process are you refering too? I looked at this post ..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616 which seems to be the method you have to do after that ota update and do be honest that is way over my head.
What about the one click method posted on droid life not too long ago.

We were all noobs at once. read up and Get R done. You can do it.
I did a 3 click method as well. It was before the ota so I can't speak for that link. It was more involved than the unrevoked program for Dinc but it wasn't hard and the best part is iit includes all the adb drivers and files in one neat. Exe

That was a little harsh. You were a noob once too, so cut the OP some slack.
Back to topic. I have never used a craigslist ad for rooting & I don't know anyone that has, so I can't vouch for it. But rooting your own phone is the best way to make sure you don't get scammed. Plus, you won't have to rely on someone else every time you get a new phone. Rooting the Tbolt is not hard, you just gotta read everything you can find about it beforehand. If you're still unsure after reading xda forums, watch some youtube demos. If you MUST rely on someone else to root, I would get a knowledgeable friend or coworker to do it before contacting some guy from craigslist. A friend would do it for free, anyway

Lol... Anyways, to the op... Rooting is really not that difficult if you just do your homework and follow directions to a tee. I would never allow some random dude on Craigslist to even touch my phone. What would you do if you came across a problem (which eventually you will) and had no idea how to fix it because you couldn't even root your own phone? My suggestion would be to study up and use the manual root method with adb. You will benefit the most from this and learn a lot along the way. Just don't pay somebody else to do of for you, its not that difficult.
I'll root your phone for free. Don't expect it back though. :$

My friend paid like 20 bucks through paypal to root his Evo Supersonic. It was through one of those cell phone shops.. It worked for him but you should just learn to do it yourself cause you are going to eventually need to learn how to do all this stuff for yourself.

The problem with letting someone root your phone is you don't learn how to use the necessary tools to flash roms, themes, create backups and the like. You don't grasp the concept of what could go wrong and what will go wrong.
The biggest thing to know is not how to root your phone but how to fix it when it breaks.

If I had easy rooted and not taken the time to learn my way around ADB I would have a brick right now. I douched up while I was upgrading to the new Gingersense radio and knowing my way around ADB saved my ass. If you root without knowing what is going on you are asking for a very expensive mistake.

The 3 click method is actually really easy as long as you take your time and be careful. I went from knowing nothing to rooting 4 tbolts and bringing mine back from a frozen splash screen. Thank you, i will def study and only do it then when i am comfortable that i have it down. I cant afford any mistakes. Bking_soda, mind if i pm you with question when that time comes. Having done 4 tbolts you are obviously an expert
Definitly worth learning to do yourself, keep in mind there will be mistakes as you go forward, yes it is possible to brick your phone but very hard to a do. Read read read and when you think you have it figured out read some more. The more you do yourself the more you'll understand when you do get a bad flash what you need to do. Dont worry It can almost always be recovered. And most of the smart people in these forums will help and not flame you for asking for it.
Hey there anyone has any estimates on when the s-off, root and etc for general public will be out, not sure about how many bugs/glitches does the dev. version have...

I think the disclaimer for the dev only thing was probably a safe guard to make sure the repercussions weren't severe if things didn't pan out! However everything works great for me... I just reflashed my stock RUU after and re-rooted and put on CWM and now my phone is slick and debloated! I donated because as far as I am concerned they can't improve upon perfect!
the reason why i asked is becasue this is my first time i ever dealt with HTC "rooting" wanted to make sure i dont run into much issues during the process, any pointers? besides the guide?

Just don't get worried that is all! Make sure you feel comfortable with the procedure prior to attempting it, but rest assured this is quite possibly the easiest S-Off/Root procedure around... no goldcard, no nothing! It literally does everything for you! So just stick to the guide, don't deviate, and never panic and jerk the cord from your phone! Then again I don't really think you can brick, but if I understand correctly S-Off is in the Radio and quite simply put if the Radio gets messed up the phone gets messed up!
Again if the phone seems fine to you, then you may not want to do it right now... the ROMs are just starting to come out of the kitchens and are young right now so holding off might be advisable or at least until you feel comfortable to play around with your phone!

It doesn't allow you to get free app's but along with s-off, gives you pretty much total control over the phone and allows app's that are made specifically for rooted devices to run on the phone, i.e. Titanium backup and also to flash custom rom's.

I see, thanx alot, out of curiosity, are the HTCs able to be hacked where you would be able to download apps that are not free, for free.

Not that I know of and I wouldn't ask too much about how to do it or where to get them from on here as the moderator's are pretty strict about it.
There are websites that provide them if you have a google though.

LOL stealing paid apps = bad and majority of the websites that offer paid apps for free also offer identity theft,spam and trojans for your device to enjoy....BUY THE APPS man!!!!!!!!! not many things in life are FREE

Hi. I've been wanting to root my phone for a while now, but since as I am still a kid, I asked my parents if I could. They didn't like the idea of bricking. I tried to explain how low the risks are to them, but no.
I'm pretty sure that hearing professional's opinions on it would atleast help to change their mind.
You may be thinking, since im only a kid, that I dont know all this types of stuff? Well, I spend most of my time on the computer and I generally am really good with them.
I know a good of C++, but thats beside the topic.
(I would be using kingroot's one click since I have a nexus 5)

I'm going to have to give you a thumbs down on rooting.
If you need king root to root a nexus, you don't know what your doing and shouldn't root.

I know how to root without KR, but it seems like the easiest way.. (I meant since it supports it)

i can root any nexus the right way in under 5 minutes. how is that difficult? and better to use the trash root that king gives you?
no one is going to support your petition to be allowed to root, when your using king on a nexus.
dont believe me? go post exactly what you posted here in the n5 forum. they will flame you mercilessly, i guarantee it.

It's pretty damn hard to actually brick a Nexus. Permanently, anyway. In fact, I'm not sure it's even possible. With TWRP recover you can just restore from a back-up if you screw something up, and as long as you can boot into download mode, you can always just reflash the factory firmwares from a PC.
However, I think the method you'd use is less important than the question of why you want or think you need to root in the first place. If it's to learn about Android, programming, app making, etc for a future career (or even just a hobby) then I think it's a great idea. But not on your Nexus 5, if that's your only phone. Even if you screw something up, but not permanently, you still don't want to be without your phone for however long it takes to fix it.
I don't know how much money might be at your disposal (or your parents), but my suggestion would be to look on Swappa or eBay for something cheap to play around and learn with. Like a Nexus 4 or Galaxy S3. Both can be had for under $100 if you don't mind a little wear and tear. Heck, there's a brand new 16GB Nexus 4 listed right now for $123. If you can afford just a bit more, a second Nexus 5 for ~$150 would be an even better device to learn on, since it has official Marshmallow 6.0. Heck, a Nexus 7 tablet would be learning device, with its bigger screen.
You've already shown commendable responsibility in asking your parents and not just going ahead behind their backs, so I'll say this to you: If you want to convince your parents to let you try, or better yet, get the second device to experiment with, explain to them that a smartphone isn't a phone anymore. It's a computer that fits in your pocket that you can make calls with. And a Nexus is like a home-built PC that doesn't require restore disks and impossible-to-find drivers to fix if you happen to screw something up. And frankly, screwing up and learning how to fix your mistakes and not make others is all part of the knowledge process. Trust me, we've all done it.
But, if you want to root just to get free gems and gold and screenshot Snapchat pictures without the other party knowing, then that's an entirely different thing. And I'm not your parents.

Which are the major reasons which results into a useless bricked device?? I frequently use xposed modules and my device is mtk 6592 chipset one.

the #1 way to brick your device from rooting, or any other mod is user error.
