1 click root app?

Is there any 1 click root apps for the thunderbolt yet like universal root or z4 type app?

No. There are "easy" root apps for Windows (and some scripts for Mac/Linux) available...
I am not sure if there will be a one-click app for quite some time. If you read the process for rooting you will understand that you are required to downgrade the firmware in order to obtain permanent root (through an exploit).

I don't think that there should be any 1 click apps for rooting. These devs spend alot of time setting stuff up for us if you want to use their stuff then learn how to do the basics atleast. Besides the more that learns how to do "technical" stuff the stronger the community will be.

I disagree. I understand and believe that people should learn what they are doing before they begin but there are some people out there who just want to remove bloat. Nothing else. And for those people, I think a 1 click root should be available. I went through probably 2 or 3 hours learning how and why to do the root method on this phone after doing the same thing on my old phone (Droid X) because I plan on doing so much with it I want to know exactly what is going on. People like me, should go through the comprehensive root so we have far less "I flashed ____ and bricked my phone what do I do?!?!?!?!1" but for people who just want to remove bloat or use tethering should once again not have to spend hours figuring out what adb is/does.
And even if everyone in the community learns the "technichal" stuff many of them aren't going to help out anyone else. They are going to root, ROM, and GTFO.

All I was doing is stating my opinion which still stands at if u don't want to learn stuff leave it stock. And even with a 1 click root app there is still a chance for stuff to go wrong. Nothing in this world is always predictable.

I wasn't arguing with you just as you said I was stating my opinion.
And the difference between running through an hour long rooting process and a 20 minute 1 click root is, well it's quite obvious what the difference is. Also, we know nothing is perfect that's why everything out there (ROMs, kernels, rooting methods, etc) all have liability warnings, the same as 1 click roots.

I don't really have a desire to learn ADB so I won't, but I will still root my phone.
Actually, if I absolutely HAD to learn to use ADB to root, I probably would, then I would promptly forget what I've learned since I'd probably never use it again, until it came time to root my next phone. So I don't see the point, just respectfully disagreeing and sharing my opinion
I use a MAC and a PC and I've built PC's, but I really don't care to learn how all the background s/ware stuff works, but I can add components like a mad-woman.

Thats exactly what I want to do. Just remove the tons of crap that came built in. A one click root solution would be a lifesaver.
The current root methods are way too complicated for me.

Yeah, totally... and we should stop using push button car ignitions and even key starts. People should have to poor gas in their carburetors and hand pump up the pressure and crack start it. This way people will better understand how the engine works in case they need to work on it after a break down.
What about lighters and stoves!? 1 click to start a fire, wtf? 2 stick method I say, do people even realize what fire is and where it comes from these days?

For the love of God... not another effing debate about one-click solutions and learning ADB. Noob this, noob that... developer this, developer that.
The ultimate point is that nobody is entitled to anything... but once a solution has been developed in an open community, nobody is prohibited from using it based upon their level of experience.
I personally feel that it is beneficial to know how the root method works, but there are people who could care less and just want to root their device without fully understanding the process/risks/technicalities.
The bottom line is that they are free to do this and they are "allowed" to use one-click root solutions without having technical knowledge or understanding what ADB is!

Well what good is root at this point? The radio has issues, the camcorder app is bunked, txt app is wishy washy, ringtones for specific contacts switches, etc. I am waiting on root at this point! I have rooted every android phone I have had and this one just seems to flake with root at this time. I still don't understand wth it's doing! If I had a clue, I would write a one click. Just makes it less of a head ache if you have more than one tb to do. And you won't have noobs pop up asking wth did I do wrong. And yes I'm a noob too, but I also read b4 I venture into the unknown. I still say if u wanna learn go buy a book and if ya don't understand it then ask. Why not just put a noob section on each device forum? Let people help the ones that can't do it on their own. Heck make it a mandatory $10 donation fee if ya gotta have someone show you what to do. Seems like no one here has ever had to ask for help. I fix my father's car, not because I really want to. Just because if he does it, it won't ever run again. He ain't got a clue! Some people just aren't able to understand things like others. Be nice and quit bashing noobs.

Even rooting w/o flashing a new custom ROM is causing issues?

From what I have seen even just straight root causes issues. I really prefer root without flashing a lot of extra. Simple and to the point. Gives me access to files without the head ache of something going wrong.

I rooted to stock and ran that for almost a week before flashing a rom. I had no issues whatsoever.

Is it assumed that there will never be a true easy 1-click root solution for this phone?
I am on my last week of eligibility to return this phone and if there will not be the same kind of support for this phone from the dev community, then I would like to know so that I can return it.

There is already a ton of support and development for this phone. There are several ROMS and kernels already, and the root process is very easy to do. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to learn how ADB works. Frankly, if you feel like you deserve to have superuser access to a *IX operating system then damnit you should know what the hell you're doing; that's just my 2 cents though. I wouldn't just turn over root access to my server rack to someone who doesn't understand and appreciate the responsibility of unfettered access to the operating system.
That being said, I am of the mindset that everyone should take the opportunity to learn how these systems work, and would gladly help anyone willing to do so. I have loved Unix based operating systems ever since I got my hands on the first release of Slackware Linux, love the BSDs, and have a lot of fun using Solaris.

Sorry but I'm just looking for something like unrevoked for the T-bolt. I only need it to remove all the bloat, not trying to do anything too fancy.

Rooting services on craigslist

Has anyone used these that are adverstised on craigslist? I am to much of a noob to try any rooting process other that a one click so i thought maybe i should let a "pro" do it. I was just wondering if anyone has had negative experiences

honestly dont.
Its not worth any cost they charge to root your phone. I did a one click method for Droid og, and a three click process for thunderbolt. They work fine, and I know there is a debate on auto or manual root, regardless they both work.
I was like you when I first rooted my droid and was scared of bricking the phone etc. If you follow the steps and just go slow and make sure you have everything downloaded properly, rooting is easy.

What three step process are you refering too? I looked at this post ..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616 which seems to be the method you have to do after that ota update and do be honest that is way over my head.
What about the one click method posted on droid life not too long ago.

We were all noobs at once. read up and Get R done. You can do it.

I did a 3 click method as well. It was before the ota so I can't speak for that link. It was more involved than the unrevoked program for Dinc but it wasn't hard and the best part is iit includes all the adb drivers and files in one neat. Exe

That was a little harsh. You were a noob once too, so cut the OP some slack.
Back to topic. I have never used a craigslist ad for rooting & I don't know anyone that has, so I can't vouch for it. But rooting your own phone is the best way to make sure you don't get scammed. Plus, you won't have to rely on someone else every time you get a new phone. Rooting the Tbolt is not hard, you just gotta read everything you can find about it beforehand. If you're still unsure after reading xda forums, watch some youtube demos. If you MUST rely on someone else to root, I would get a knowledgeable friend or coworker to do it before contacting some guy from craigslist. A friend would do it for free, anyway

Lol... Anyways, to the op... Rooting is really not that difficult if you just do your homework and follow directions to a tee. I would never allow some random dude on Craigslist to even touch my phone. What would you do if you came across a problem (which eventually you will) and had no idea how to fix it because you couldn't even root your own phone? My suggestion would be to study up and use the manual root method with adb. You will benefit the most from this and learn a lot along the way. Just don't pay somebody else to do of for you, its not that difficult.

I'll root your phone for free. Don't expect it back though. :$

My friend paid like 20 bucks through paypal to root his Evo Supersonic. It was through one of those cell phone shops.. It worked for him but you should just learn to do it yourself cause you are going to eventually need to learn how to do all this stuff for yourself.

The problem with letting someone root your phone is you don't learn how to use the necessary tools to flash roms, themes, create backups and the like. You don't grasp the concept of what could go wrong and what will go wrong.
The biggest thing to know is not how to root your phone but how to fix it when it breaks.

If I had easy rooted and not taken the time to learn my way around ADB I would have a brick right now. I douched up while I was upgrading to the new Gingersense radio and knowing my way around ADB saved my ass. If you root without knowing what is going on you are asking for a very expensive mistake.

I have to agree with sublimaze... I too see these posts in Houston. This is my first Android and in the beginning, I too was nervous about root process. The 3 click method is actually really easy as long as you take your time and be careful. I went from knowing nothing to rooting 4 tbolts and bringing mine back from a frozen splash screen. Just read man, ask questions and be careful. Not all of us will flame you for asking questions. Good luck bro.

Thank you, i will def study and only do it then when i am comfortable that i have it down. I cant afford any mistakes. Bking_soda, mind if i pm you with question when that time comes. Having done 4 tbolts you are obviously an expert

Definitly worth learning to do yourself, keep in mind there will be mistakes as you go forward, yes it is possible to brick your phone but very hard to a do. Read read read and when you think you have it figured out read some more. The more you do yourself the more you'll understand when you do get a bad flash what you need to do. Dont worry It can almost always be recovered. And most of the smart people in these forums will help and not flame you for asking for it.

Bricked one phone.. Got replacement. Need Help

Okay so I had a G2x and tried rooting it and I think i did something wrong. With all these instructions ramble on about one thing and another hard for me to really understand all the correct steps.
So can I please have someone give me a hand with this? As in a step by step process of everything? This is my second G2X brand new from T-Mobile has the Gingerbread 2.3.3. So if anyone can actually tell me step by step and what files I am going to need so I don't brick this one because 300USD is getting expensive.

i think you screwed yourself on this one... this phone is like virtually unbrickable, nvflash should be able to bring you out of any soft bricks you might run into and ive run into a fair share of them and never had a problem...
i would recommend you sift though the development section and read all of the tutorials and have a very good understanding of what you are doing instead of having someone spoonfeed you everything when you really dont know what you are doing... (im a high school math teacher and cannot stand it when students are just spoonfed information because in the end they really dont understand what they are doing)

Best thing I've ever read. It helps shine a light on why so many people almost daily are asking for help on how to do something when this forum is riddled with tutorials. I personally stopped helping months ago with any questions on how to root or flash or just anything that there are tutorials for. It just gets crazy redundant.

Yeah, maybe the OP could have found the answer himself. But he's obviously been following a tutorial (likely in this very forum) that's not working for him (hence his replacement phone). The guy just needs two seconds of help from someone. In the amount of time it took me to copy/paste the following links, I could have torn him a new one thirty times over. But I'm not a ****. So, if you absolutely HAVE to post here, at least make it constructive. Incessant *****ing does no good for anyone.
To the OP:
Firstly, you'll need to flash CWM. This is super simple, given you're on a PC. If you're on Mac, things will get tricky (i.e. virtual Linux environment, headaches, etc).
Next, you can find an easy to follow rooting method here. It even has an unroot .zip option given you have to send your phone in again (will save you another $300 ).
And of course, you can PM me if you need any help. If these are the steps you have already followed, here's a YouTube video with some visuals. When I'm stuck on something, that usually helps me a lot.

Uhhhh... i really dont understand how i was being a ****... I simply stated that he should have a holistic understanding of what hes doing before he starts tinkering because the figure it out as you go method can lead to a 300 dollar paper weight. Not to mention I pointed him in the right direction to start....

They are being difficult. What they realize is that the OP has already stated that he's bricked one device because he cannot follow directions. He obviously does not know what he's doing, and has problems following instructions because, as he put it..they go on and on... In the end even if he successfully roots his phone, he may wind up causing himself problems by having access to system files because it's obvious he doesn't really know what he's doing. Everyone shouldn't root. If you cannot follow the simple instructions to root without "bricking" a device, and you cannot follow simple instructions to bring the device back to an operational state, then perhaps rooting is not for you (OP). It just sounds like he is going to cause himself even more problems.

^^this... root access to phones is not a hand out, it has to be earned, and you earn it by educating yourself about your device and its capabilities and by following simple instructions...

I can't believe no one has said this yet.
Most phones have water sensors, so dipping it in water would just void the warranty. Sorry if you were joking. But as many have said, it's pretty easy to flash the phone back to normal so the TMobile doesn't know it's been hacked. Did you ask here first?

I am thankful for all the responses. Sorry if I caused grief and headache to anyone. I was finally able to get my phone rooted giving the information that someone provided to me on here. I sent him a PM to personally thank him.
By all means I should probably be *****ed at if I don't follow instructions very well. I have always considered myself a visual learner. If I don't have hands on and able to see it done, it really complicates things for me. I guess you can call it a disability.
Anyways I have come from a long line to HTC which I can say is way different in rooting then these phones. I root them to begin with to get rid of all the stupid software T-Mobile places in my phone and to normally switch to CM7 which I have found out is giving me problems which I am currently trying to figure out.

Don't feel bad. I bricked mine upgrading to GB, and I'm still not sure what went wrong. I got it fixed for free by sending it into LG.

By all means I should probably be *****ed at if I don't follow instructions very well. I have always considered myself a visual learner. If I don't have hands on and able to see it done, it really complicates things for me. I guess you can call it a disability.

Do not sweat the whiners. Here is the way I look at it... It is a forum for developers. I can not develop crap, so I try to do my part by being helpful when I can. Everyone here was brand new at one point. Make sure you do your part by reading as much as you can. If you still have questions/issues, send me a PM.

Why does every noob question get followed up with a bunch bullshizz. We were all noobs at one point, I remember when my Huawei ascend scared me. Nothing is worse than bricking your phone and being upset than a bunch of know it all asses being pricks. Is the g2x forum the only one full of d-ckheads? I've never heard so much whining and holier than thou bs. I'm surprised we have any devs, ungrateful bunch of *****es. Well first I am glad you were able to fix the phone however I understand knowledgeable people get frustrated because this phone is simple to root. With a phone that has been out this long there is no reason anyone can not find out what to do on there own.
There are so many YouTube videos and forums like this. You are not the second person to too your phone or to brick it so why create a new post looking for help when you can simply Google it. I know your lazy and expect someone else to do your work for you.

The problem is this. Ppl dont know how to research their issue. Also ppl in our generation cant seem to follow directions worth ****. I was the same way. I learned on my g1. Rooted it successful and then bricked my friends. Over the years ive learned alot about computers/phone/cdma flashing. Playing with the big boys. You develop problem solving skills that you can apply outside of this. It truly makes you smarter. So yea. Maybe we are know it all asses.

[Q] What's the best way to remove crap on ATT?

So, can someone link me to a simple, current guide to rooting and removing crapware? Bonus points if I can revert all changes so they can't screw me on my warranty.
I have an AT&T One X, purchased in the last week. I can post version info if necessary.
I want to ditch the yellowpages garbage and all the att garbage (wifi, navigator, cityid, etc) and probably twitter and facebook, though I don't really care if they're there. I'd also like to enable tethering if I can.
I had a ROM on my last phone (samsung infuse) which did all this, but I don't think I want to put a ROM on this one just yet. So, I'm not new to rooting, but I'm new to HTC, and new to removing/freezing bloat. I'm running linux.

But I read that it makes your phone show *TAMPERED* and lock you out? That makes me terrified of running it.
Edit: Oh, and I have software number 1.85.502.3 710RD... I don't think it would work anyway.

You can disable them without voiding warranty. The only thing i couldn't disable was AT&T ready to go.

Because I obviously haven't been trying to use those. Seriously, these forums contain some of the most unapproachable instructions that exist, instructions that have the potential to brick your device, and if you ask for some advice on not getting your $600 device completely ****ed by them, you get linked to google. I help users of various open source projects all the goddamn time, and I never go HERP DERP LMGTFY.
So give real advice or just don't reply. It's not helpful or constructive, it doesn't make you cool, it doesn't even clean up the forums. If you know nothing and are posting to be a jerk, then you're just bumping my post for me. If you're deliberately withholding information and posting to be a jerk, then you're actively increasing forum clutter by keeping me around longer. Either way, the outcome is that the "signal to noise" ratio of the forum goes to **** because half the posts are "OMG GOOGLE," because this attitude is actively encouraged for some reason, when in reality it shouldn't even be tolerated.

You can disable apps, or uninstall them by going to settings>apps, or by going to the menu on your app drawer and selecting manage apps. once there, you can tap on apps that you don't want then tapping on them individually and selecting the option that you want.

I've dedicated the last hour or more to searching for this ****. Once you've been into modding your phone for a while, you don't understand how difficult it is to get started.
I'm trying to go about this with caution, so I don't get screwed. I cannot afford to replace the phone if I screw up and HTC and ATT decide to throw me under the bus. Maybe the people around here who seem to own 3-5 phones at a time can.
The various roots that I found appeared to have users replying that they didn't work with the latest revisions to 1.85. So I'm still not even sure I can do that. Maybe those users were full of crap, maybe not. How am I supposed to know?
Back to the subject of the phone, it looks like CleanROM is probably my best option, but it will require unlocking the bootloader. So far I've seen instructions for rooting 1.85, but I'm unsure about unlocking.

Lets start over, ok?
To root your phone, there is a one click thread that is stickied in development that works great. I have used it 6 times now and have had no issues. It doesn't always work the first time but usually does the second. it will give you a "tampered" banner on your bootloader but that goes away if you RUU back to stock. It absolutely does work on the latest software (1.85).

For removal of bloatware, use Titanium Backup. Been using it for 3 years, and I swear by it. When you select an item for deletion, back it up first just in case.

a little pointed, but true.. i remember my first post here on xda and I was labelled as a noob for asking a question. some people are just too sensitive for these type of forums. To op, if you cannot handle the "heat" I would tell you what I was told back then: "xda is for people who want to tinker with their phone, or for those interested in learning how to do so and contribute to the community. If that's not you, go to a much more general forum like android central." Now, you can bash me like you did to that guy who was just joking, or you can take what I said for what it means and run with it. Read up, that will do wonders for you.

Hmm, thank you for the help. I still haven't been able to get that root to work. adb wait-for-device finishes, but then the adb push just sits there forever.

Do you have HTC sync running? Is USB debugging enabled?

No and yes. I have sync installed but not running. USB debugging enabled on the phone, phone in charge-only mode.

I got it to work by switching to a different USB host.
Edit: but it said no update found, so I'm restarting and setting the clock forward.

Would have been next. Always use a port on the back of the computer for anything related to root, unlock, or flash.

Well, it's my laptop, and I have to use virtualbox to get winderz. So, it was probably something related to that.
Anyway, I swapped it from a usb2 port to a usb3 port.

Yeah on a desktop it can matter. I have yet to see an explanation of the difference between ports on the front and back, and why adb will refuse to work with some/most front ports. Just seems to be that way.

I am writing this out do to the amount of people who seem to start doing things on their phones without understanding what it is they're really doing.
Now you might say "I know I know exad, I root many phoen, I want 2 show peopel how smrt I am! I custumize everything and maek it lewk cool!" But there's really quite a bit of risk associate with the rooting process and even afterwards! Here, I will explain some of the common terms and risks associated with rooting, it will be like an index of knowledge I've accumulated being here on XDA.
So first off, what is root? Why is it dangerous?
I will tell you very directly, if you do not know exactly what root is, and/or how to manage access, you are not at all ready to root.
Root is a term to mean Administrative Access. Meaning you have full control over the software of your phone and it's system files. When you are given root access, you can alter any system files. This can obviously be damaging. Perhaps you trust yourself not to do anything crazy or destructive, which I think is the case for most people but often, root access is given to third party apps! So what can an app with root access do with your phone technically?.. Well, ANYTHING IT'S DEVELOPER wants. Overclock your CPU, create a backdoor to your phone, pull/steal personal information. The sky's the limit.

EDIT: That said, I know the first place many people go is general (that's what I did) so maybe this would get more views by the people who actually need it in general.
