I just got my hdmi cable in and wanted to show you how Gun Bros looks on the tv. Everything on the screen works on the television (games, movies on sdcard, streaming movies. video chat, texting, everything) Freakin sweet I will make a more detailed vid later when I have more time.

That's pretty sick, I've had my HDMI cable for over a week and had not thought of playing video games. i have only used it to show video's and pictures, gee i guess that's what happens when you have a newborn, you start to loose some of your other man senses!!
I cant wait for my Bluetooth controller to get here. netflix and gaming via HDMI were the biggest selling points of the phone after the Tegra 2. old game emulation is awesome on this thing.
I actually also forgot my 25" PC monitor also has an HDMI input. now i just leave a cable behind it, connect and switch the input when i want to game real quick. this way I am in a seat and at a comfortable distance untill the controller gets here
Yeah I was wondering about the bluetooth controller. just like the hd2 I had and sold with the ps3 controller. I should have kept the controller. Lol

PS3 controllers are working on android now? I remember reading a thread where someone tired but didnt know it worked. link?
as far as me I went with the Datel retro. its like the Wii classic controller but the bluetooth is built in so you dont need the official nunchuck to plug into.

So the datel works just fine with the g2x? Wasnt there bluetooth compatibility issues with the g2x and wii controllers?

Doesnt work with a stock phone until someone does some work with either drivers or bluetooth stack. I really know nothing about that side of things.
I have read that it works fine on CM7 builds

why would you need that when it charges via micro USB? most TVs Ive seen have USB, the few that do not can use USB on the cable box,sat box, tivo, stereo or game console
That's nice, but I really like your pond and waterfall! What liner are you using?

Uhh...so u dont have two plugs sticking out at either ends kf the phone while youre playing games on it?
Oh. for some reason i was thinking you were using a remote gamepad. IMO the USB doesn't bother me or get in the way as much as the HDMI on the left ( when using both cables )
That looks nice on your TV. I just wish my G2x would output to my TV correctly. When i'm playing nova the edges are cut off and i am unable to play it correctly. I am thinking its my TV but it doesn't make sense.
under settings is HDMI output correctly set or at least on auto detect?

It's most likely a TV issue, I had to change the view setting on my Sony Bravia TV.

Where did you get the cable from?
that's freakin awesome!! time to get an HDMI cable.

Would it be possible to HDMI out to monitor then use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the Droid Charge? If so, what works best?
Thx
Actually i think with ice cream the newest android revision, there will be support for things like gamepads and keyboard.
Cool thing that, now i can crank one out to redtube on the big screen much more efficiently

Does the HDMI out mirror as in display on the tv exactly what is on the device screen regardless if it is games, movies, internet etc. Or is it like the droidx and only plays movies on the tv and not show what playing on the device.
Reason I am asking is I might pick one up today before the store closes.
edit...
just picked up a charge and yea it does mirror the display.

I use both a Logitech Bluetooth mouse (they only have one, I believe). I also have an I/O Magic bluetooth mouse - both work great - I use one at work and one at home. Use them *all* of the time. Bought the I/O Magic at Microcenter (much cheaper than the Logitech)...

Just wondering if you get the decrease in download speeds while using the bluetooth mouse like we get when using bluetooth speakers. Just curious cause if you can stream netflix and use the mouse without any video buffering we might have hope on it being a software issue. Can you try it. Thanks.

Don't have a Netflix account, but I just tested with a bluetooth mouse and my bluetooth music receiver.
If I just have my mouse connected (but not using it), it doesn't slow it down much at all, but if I constantly move the mouse around while the speed test is occurring, it does drop the speed quite a bit. However, the speed drop is nowhere near the lever you are seeing....
I get very little slowdown while playing music to the bluetooth music receiver while running the test.
I think the slowdown while constantly moving the mouse around might be more CPU related since the bluetooth music receiver doesn't slow it down much (still get about 12Mbps download while sending music to the bluetooth music receiver).
I would expect the slowdowns I'm seeing though, especially since bluetooth and wifi use the same 2.4Ghz signal....

I am using this since it travel well. If MS made the bendable arch mouse in BT instead of normal wireless then I would have gotten one of those.

That mouse looks interesting - how do the "optical" navigation work using your finger - does it work with the TF700?
You also mention that it travels well - does it fold flat or something? I'm just wondering what makes it travel better than a normal mouse...
I'm tempted to purchase, but only if the optical finger navigation works with the TF700...
Thanks for the info!

It works as advertised. It is flatter than the average mouse so it fits in a bag well. I wouldnt do graphic design with it but it is precise enough for normal tablet stuff.
I can't use apple air mouse.
I can connect mouse and infinity together, but mouse doesen't work.
The same mouse works perfect with samsung galaxy s2.

It's not possible to have HDMI out and USB access at the same time. (Not to mention, the Nexus 4 doesn't even support USB-OTG without a custom kernel.)
What you would have to do is get a SlimPort adapter and a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

The only device I used that was connected via HDMI and used with a bluetooth keyboard was the Motorola Atrix.
what about this one?
It's an Android dongle, you connect it to any TV via HDMI, you plug it to a power source, and voilà
Android KitKat full HD on your TV!

Does Ubuntu support Chromecast? Couldn't you just get a Chromecast and a BT keyboard and mouse and pretty much accomplish the same thing without using USB at all (except to charge, obviously)? I know it's possible in Android, it is built into the Chromecast app...

I understand, but that is not what I meant. I meant cast the screen of the Nexus 4, and use a BT mouse and keyboard to control the Nexus 4... Essentially using the Chromecast as your HDMI output from the device.

It wouldn't work in Ubuntu, casting screen to Chromecast is a proprietary feature that requires Android.
It is definitely possible to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse while casting to Chromecast, but the slight lag caused by screen mirroring, combined with the slight lag from the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, makes it borderline unusable. It does, however, free up the USB port to plug in a USB mouse and keyboard with an OTG Y cable and a hub.
I can't see why you would want to use Nexus 4 as a desktop PC. The android OS and UI are totally unsuitable unless you want to impress your friends
If you want something small and portable, you should look at getting an Intel NUC or similar. Much more powerful and much much more suitable for desktop OS stuff.
Could always look into the likes of the Asus Transformers? I personally use the transformer prime with its dock and it works like a ultrabook has handled everything I have thrown at it too but for all the hardcore applications I have my desktop
Also for a heads up you could be interested in the Asus transformer book, its a windows tablet, but add the likes of Console OS and you can dual boot windows and android with full support for their respective apps/programs on each side
Ive got a MyDP Slimport Adapter and a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse. The only downside is that Ubuntu Touch does not support Desktop Convergence Yet. I hope its around the corner. The nexus is powerful enough for me and hope that the desktop mode is enabled and works as planned. Its a great idea to dock your phone and use it as your desktop.
Thanks for thre recommendation.

I was attempting to make the Ubuntu Touch Desktop Convergence experience a reality on my Nexus 4. It seems it maybe around the corner.
Starting a thread to see what kind of kooky and cool ideas peeps have come up with for their setup.
I just bought another Logitech MX570 trackball mouse. My 3rd. I like to go back and forth between traditional mice (MX Performance) and trackball so I don't get carpal tunnel and tendonitis. I'm up in the air about the dedicated keyboard. I will probably get the Logitech K800 as that has been my favorite so far. I would like to try the Craft but too expensive.
I know many of you are just going straight usb-c to HDMI adapter and using Bluetooth accessories. Those are welcome too. It would be really nice if Logitech came out with a sweet sweet keyboard with touchpad built in. There are a couple but the cheap one is just that, cheap and low quality. I bought my mom the K400 and it works fine for her but not for me. Logitech needs to step up their game on a keyboard with touchpad built in.
I am also using Logitech because of the unifying receiver so only USB port is taken for 2 accessories. Have not decided on a USB thumb drive yet.
What setups are you running for productivity with DEX? Please share so there is a thread peeps (that actually use the search function) can come and see what options there are to fit their workflow. Or haven't thought of.
I will update later today see if my USB controllers work for emulators and what the latency is, which I am hoping is just as good as mouse input. I was expecting critical latency that would make the experience bad.
Anybody try with a USB powered monitor yet?
I'm sorry, but..... pics or it didn't happen, right?
I invested in this dex stuff just as a hobby. I already have 4 pc’s plus a laptop and an iPad Pro 12.9 i carry with me daily.
I passed on it with the note 8 but thought to give it a go the note 9.
I also use the mxperformance mouse for my pcs but i picked up a jelly comb foldable portable wireless keyboard. It has a click-style mouse pad and the keypad is pleasant to use. I also picked up the dex pad , hdmi 2.0b latest spec hdmi cable.
I guess a good way to use this setup will be when I download films to the device. Rather than copy the file over to the pc, i can just connect the dex to the display and have better flexibility.
I found the jelly comb folding keyboard to be crap. Double characters everywhere. Moved to a generic wireless mouse on one of the USB ports and an MS folding BT keyboard. It's replaced my work laptop for 80% of tasks. Oh and powering the HDMI adapter by a Nintendo switch USB C power supply as it kicks out 2.6A which is enough to charge the phone at the same time.
I probably won't post a pic (if I even remember) until Friday or Saturday. I think I will try using it one day and a USB 3 thumb drive. I think DEX only supports USB 2 though. Another missed opportunity by Samsung to make this an even better pseudo desktop experience. Did Sammy use 3 or 3.1 for their USB C? Having two or even one USB 3 A port would've been sweet for local storage. Between a Logitech unifying receiver and a SanDisk UltraFit USB 3 drive and you're talking one smaller desktop.
Samsung could make some corny commercials pitting it against Intel NUC boxes like their Apple commercials. ???
Hi guys I have my dex set up, however I'm looking for a Bluetooth keyboard my monitor only has an hdmi, vga connection so I need advice on what will be my best option maybe I should get a cable with a USB receiver for an wireless keyboard any inputs are welcomed thanks.
I'm using my Note9 with Dex running on HP X3 lap dock. Great setup for travel but also when I need to edit things locally on the phone----tasker for example. Everything works on the lap dock including sound. Track pad works but could be better.

Woah, you have a working sound for hp elite? Is there any special way to get it?
I had picked up a DeX dock from Amazon for 60 bucks. I used a logitech anywhere BT mouse and the blue BT keyboard. Mouse and keyboard work great. Resolution looks crappy, seem kinda blurry for a 1080p screen. Still needs work, I was hoping to get the DeX working good enough to use as a htpc streamer for my living room TV. Still fun to play around with tho.

does DeX work with any cheap HDMI to usb C adapter that supports 4k and 60 Hz? There are some on eBay for 7 bucks
dex output is crystal clear for me. I have used this on an lg 4K 27 inch monitor and my old school plasma Panasonic 3D display from 2011
I have a late spec hdmi 2.0b cable and again the resolution is not blurry at all. Plenty of videos on the web to also show the clarity .
Yes dex works with a regular hdmi spec cable usb c to hdmi. I have also used dex with just a cable (waiting on the pad tho show up)
What happens when incoming call?
Hi. Not sure where to post this. Thinking of jumping from iPhone to Note9
Can somebody tell me if I will be able to use the Note9 as a normal handset with an incoming call? (While in Dex). Everything I see indicates the acutal Note9 runs independent when docked but I can't find any example of making/receiving a call on one.
I want to use a USB extension cable and just be able to use the phone like normal when connected to Dex. Not sure what happens to the audio if I'm also using external speakers via Dex.
Thanks!

I've received several phone calls when on DeX.. Since I'm working in a personal room, I'm just answering the phone calls using speakerphone.. If you're using external speaker, the audio will be routed there (I once used my UE Boom 2 speaker for answering call)
thanks.
I know I'm still connected to Dex via a USB-C extension cable but I'd like to be able to just pick up the phone and use it "privately" like normal. Is that possible?
I believe something changed with the Note9 making it work differently with Dex.
