Hi all,
I have been trying to find information about this particular feature. I know of a similar feature on the iPad 1 & 2, where Keynote can be used to project a presentation on an external monitor whilst being controlled by the iPad etc. via a connection add-on (VGA or HD output)
Is there any mention or does anyone know of support for a dual monitor setup using the HDMI out port or even the micro-USB port?
I ask because this is a feature I would love to see but I'm not interested in the iPad because of the usual 'Jobs' approach and besides, the Xoom has way better specs in comparison.
Many Thanks,
Craig
what, you mean mirroring the xoom's display over hdmi? That's there by default..
You can watch a movie on the xoom and tv at same time not sure about video on tv control on xoom but I assume that it could happen

I think mirroring was a bit of an off term, I think I probably meant like a dual monitor support similar to that of a computer.
This is the iPad doing the "dual monitor" style I am trying to desrcibe

Hope that clears my question up a bit better.
There was an article on Engadget recently about a new Android app that allowed that. I don't remember the name though. It was probably commercial app.
I dont see why you wouldnt be able to use any standard HDMI splitter like this http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10113&cs_id=1011301&p_id=5418&seq=1&format=2

I don't want to split the signal from the Xoom, I'd like to create a second monitor similar to a computer dual monitor approach, like a second desktop if you will, where the Xoom would be a presentation controller and the HDMI Out signal would serve as the presentation itself, instead of duplicating the Xoom homescreen, where you could hold your finger on a part of the Xoom Screen and then on the output, a red dot like a laser would appear.
The idea is to offer a second screen, not mirroring the Xoom where you could create presentations, plug into a projector, and have the Xoom turn into a controller where you could preview upcoming slides, and then the outputted image, at the same time, would show the presentation full screen.
you can use a micro HDMI to HDMI and go directly to your projector or TV and it mirrors automatically. You can control everything from your tablet just fine.

still no cigar...
I think that many people did not quite understand what the OP was asking. He/she wants to hook up an external monitor to the Xoom and display a different image on the monitor as compared to the Xoom itself. On a Windows machine it would be called extended desktop. The iDisplay software does the opposite: it uses the Xoom as a second display.
Maybe someone else uses Lenovo ThinkPad laptops. You have a presentation mode there where, for example, you can see your PowerPoint presentation on a projector but the laptop screen will show the timeline, notes, and other useful options.
This option would be useful not only for PowerPoint presentations but also for watching movies from the Xoom on an HDTV but having the Xoom display turned off to save battery.
Not that this directly helps the OP but maybe someone else has any idea if there's a software for that need.
I get it, encase you want to watch two different porn0 flix at the same time. Nice...
I was thinking whether is possible to switch XOOM display off during watching the movie thru the HDMI. It could save battery. Anyone any idea whether it coould be possible?
Thanks

iDisplay would make the Xoom an extended desktop monitor for the PC and like funnycreature pointed out, the OP wants to use a secondary monitor for the Xoom instead.
Besides even if you wanted to use the Xoom as an external monitor for the PC (which I would actually like to do) iDisplay wouldn't be the way to go. After reading the reviews of the app it's not even close to being worth the $5 price tag. One person said that it will work on the Xoom, but is so slow it's pretty much unusable.
I just got my hdmi cable in and wanted to show you how Gun Bros looks on the tv. Everything on the screen works on the television (games, movies on sdcard, streaming movies. video chat, texting, everything) Freakin sweet I will make a more detailed vid later when I have more time.

That's pretty sick, I've had my HDMI cable for over a week and had not thought of playing video games. i have only used it to show video's and pictures, gee i guess that's what happens when you have a newborn, you start to loose some of your other man senses!!
I cant wait for my Bluetooth controller to get here. netflix and gaming via HDMI were the biggest selling points of the phone after the Tegra 2. old game emulation is awesome on this thing.
I actually also forgot my 25" PC monitor also has an HDMI input. now i just leave a cable behind it, connect and switch the input when i want to game real quick. this way I am in a seat and at a comfortable distance untill the controller gets here
Yeah I was wondering about the bluetooth controller. just like the hd2 I had and sold with the ps3 controller. I should have kept the controller. Lol

PS3 controllers are working on android now? I remember reading a thread where someone tired but didnt know it worked. link?
as far as me I went with the Datel retro. its like the Wii classic controller but the bluetooth is built in so you dont need the official nunchuck to plug into.

So the datel works just fine with the g2x? Wasnt there bluetooth compatibility issues with the g2x and wii controllers?

Doesnt work with a stock phone until someone does some work with either drivers or bluetooth stack. I really know nothing about that side of things.
I have read that it works fine on CM7 builds

why would you need that when it charges via micro USB? most TVs Ive seen have USB, the few that do not can use USB on the cable box,sat box, tivo, stereo or game console
That's nice, but I really like your pond and waterfall! What liner are you using?

Uhh...so u dont have two plugs sticking out at either ends kf the phone while youre playing games on it?
Oh. for some reason i was thinking you were using a remote gamepad. IMO the USB doesn't bother me or get in the way as much as the HDMI on the left ( when using both cables )
That looks nice on your TV. I just wish my G2x would output to my TV correctly. When i'm playing nova the edges are cut off and i am unable to play it correctly. I am thinking its my TV but it doesn't make sense.
under settings is HDMI output correctly set or at least on auto detect?

It's most likely a TV issue, I had to change the view setting on my Sony Bravia TV.

Its set for auto detect my TV is 720P with a native resolution of 1366x768. I have been unable to figure out why my tv does not display the G2x's hdmi correctly
Where did you get the cable from?
that's freakin awesome!! time to get an HDMI cable.

Hey just wanted to share that are skyrockets can use BLuetooth mice and keyboards.
they pair and connect and works great,
i run a streaming server from home and take my phone with me everywhere. i like to listen to my music, tv shows, and movies and its awesome streaming them through my phone.
but most of all its about the fact that they hook up to our HDTV's you do need the MHL adapter found one on amazon for 8.99 + shipping =12.89 works great
also found a mini bluetooth keyboard with a dpad on it. cost 49.99 + shipping
i connect my phone to my friends tv anytime i stay at a hotel ect.
are phones work great as a little theater pc. hook it up to a tv. use the mouse and keyboard to operate it and you can do anything with it watch movies in this case the ones at my house on my theater pc i have access to. not everyone will have that but you can still have movies on sd card ect. I even play angry birds on my 42" sitting on the couch with this. love the new Skyrocket and wanted to share. didnt know how many people were aware of the keyboard and mouse being able to connect to our phones and were able to make our phone function with them. just like a pc.

I picked mine up from eBay last year. Works amazing. I have had it linked to my playbook, MacBook Pro, and all my phones to date. Just wish the trackpad was a bit bigger. Thats the only complaint.
I bought the Mini Rii over a year ago, and maybe I've got a bad one, maybe I'm hard on it, but it didn't last. The quality isn't great, and once the battery starts to die it gets wonky. In the beginning recharging fixed it and or cycling the power switch, but now it takes several key presses to make it wake and respond.
The power cycling wasn't a big deal, and I didn't mind, until the microscopic switch's thumb knob fell off and was lost forever. Now I need a tooth pick or paper clip to cycle the power.
Another thing it does is lose it's mind on the cap lock. Sometimes it will cap lock, without the cap lock light on, and you have to turn cap locks on (light comes on) to get lower case. If that makes any sense.
The touch pad is also less responsive now too.
It didn't cost much, but I still expected it to hold up better than it did. This is just my experience, so take it as you will.
At this point I have a half working PC remote, and great laser pointer for the cat.
As we all know, TF700 has one of the greatest screen ever.
1900x1200 full HD resolution is even higher than my 720p TV..
Which makes me wanna play my xbox on TF700 if I could.
Is there any possible way to do that?
I heard u can connect some dvd players and watch it through TF700 screen, then why not XBOX?
Need some help here, It would be AMAZING if I could play Tekken on my TF700:laugh:

No. For that you would need some video input, which does not exist on the TF700.

You can connect a DVD *ROM* and watch the DVD being played by the TF700, like on a PC.

Fairly simple reason, much the same as why you can't use a laptop screen as the screen for an Xbox (i've tried. )
The tablet only has HDMI out. Meaning it can't recieve signals, it has no input. As such, hooking up your xbox will simply be trying to run water uphill.
A DVDplayer is an external media device, the same way a harddrive is. (A SATA is a glorified DVD player.) It doesn't recieve a media signal, it simply sees an external disc, and the media player plays the Video_TS.IFO file, which starts the film.
If you hunt around Google you'll see that there has been some work done on getting USB TV tuners to work in android. I haven't actually tried any of them, so I can't say anything about wether or not it's even worthwhile.
However, you do have another option that will work with a little effort, and that's to buy a network TV tuner like the HD homerun. Basically, the tuner sits on your network and you can use the tablet to watch TV off of it. The plus side of this is that you can use a VPN to connect your tablet to your network while on the road and if your connection is good enough, you can watch tv while away from the house as well.
Xbox isn't going to happen as there is no video input. For watching tv, you could always check out a slingbox. I had one of the first models and apparently they've gotten world's better.

Thanx all!
Well thanx for all your answers.
Now that I know that I cannot connect xbox *directly* to my TF700,
I'll look for different ways like the 'Splashtop' or USB TV tuners as mentioned above.
I still have a dream that one day I can play my xbox with docked TF700 somehow:fingers-crossed:
slingbox is awesome.
So I have the tf700 tablet and an Iphone, are there any apps that let me controle my tablet through my phone? For instance if I watch youtube I can switch video and stuff, not just pause. Would be really awsome if I could controle the whole interface with my phone but I doubt that is possible.
Now, this makes me really curious: How do you use your tablet that you want to use your phone as a remote???
I usually have it in my hand, on my lap - somewhere in arms reach definitely...
Do you hang your tab on the wall across the room? You definitely have better eyes than I do, dude

I've done that a few times to give a presentation. You still don't need to use your phone as a remote for that, though...
what is so hard to understand? I want to switch between youtube videos while my tablet is connected to my tv, instead of getting my ass of the couch I want to do this on my phone, which happens to be an iphone, thus my problem.

If you have a jailbroken iphone look for WeBe++ in cydia. It turns the phone into a mouse track pad, keyboard, and ps3 controller. It works over wifi or even better, bluetooth. The app is also available for non jailbroken phones in the app store as just WeBe. I have never used this version but it seems like maybe it would only work over wifi at the time and I wanted the versatility of bluetooth. I use it when hooking the tablet to the television to watch movies.

according to the description this app doesn't support android, only mac and pc, which is normal to understand and there are other better apps for this controlling mac and pc purpose
btw it's rated 3 stars https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/webe-bluetooth-mouse/id348874608?mt=8
@OP: i don't think there's an app for this,
I doubt such an app exists, cobsidering tjat Apple wont let anything even so much as referencing to Android near them... (there is a hilarious topic in General about them censoring even the word Android in the comments on their appstore... )

Like I said. I have never used the version in the Apple App Store. I know that version doesn't have as much access to the iphone system as the jailbroken version does. But when I use it on my jailbroken phone, the phone acts just like the track pad on the infinity's keyboard dock. Mouse pointer and all.
That reminds me, all that battery and work is a bit overkill since you can also simply use a wireless mouse comnected to the keyboard dock. ...
